(Oh how the plot kitties like to run around and whack at my brain. *sighs* It's information time! Get a brainful of this! Oh, and it has been decided that we will have a supernatural act in this story after all, since only one person who wants to remain anonymous agree too it. Thank you anonymous person! Now I wanna spoil, gosh do I wanna spoil! DX)
"I think that is Starclan's way of saying you need an apprentice," Leafpool mewed softly, his unfinished mouse in her jaws. The grey tom hissed warningly at her. "Oh hush," Leafpool mewed casually "It's only a guess." She placed his mouse down in front of him. "It's a waste if you don't eat it."
Jayfeather wrinkled his nose, but obediently finished his mouse. He licked his whiskers at a strange taste. What was it?
"Go to your nest," she ordered softly.
Jayfeather bristled at the order. "What?! Why?"
"Because you need to relax."
"I just woke up!"
"I'm not telling you to sleep Jayfeather, just go. Please?"
The medicine cat hissed lowly and walked over to his bed, flopping down on it with narrowed eyes. He gave a small yelp of protest when Leafpool lay beside him. "Leafpool!"
"Hmm?" She answered, starting to lazily lap at the fur on his shoulder. Jayfeather hissed.
"I'm not a kit, I can groom myself."
"Jayfeather," she sighed as she stopped. "We share tongues at this time of day, or have you forgotten our tradition? Even medicine cats partake in it. Grooming is not only for cleaning, but for relaxing. You are stressed out and haven't been sleeping well, let me groom you."
He laid there and thought. Why not let her? After all she's done it plenty of times before and without his say so. 'Because she is your mother and she means good,' a voice purred in his head. Jayfeather harshly blocked it out. "Fine, but then leave me alone."
With a grin Leafpool continued, and after a while Jayfeather relaxed slightly. After a while longer he relaxed fully and started purring. It did feel good, to just relax and let go of all thought and worry. He felt that something was wrong with him, but then brushed it off. All he knew was that relaxing felt so good.
"You know, we talk too, not just lie there," Leafpool mewed softly in amusement. Jayfeather, in his relaxed haze, did as she said without argue.
"It's been hard these past moons; dealing with your betrayal and then the new threat coming about, and my dreams. I won't be surprised if I have grey whiskers by the time of the Gathering if it keeps on." Leafpool paused to chuckle, and then continued to groom him. Jayfeather let out a grateful mew.
"Your dreams Jayfeather?" She asked.
"Yes my dreams, these, these horrible nightmares..."
"Jayfeather, if you would've told me about them I could've helped."
"How, by sleeping with me? I am a grown cat, not a kit." Jayfeather shuddered. "But they are horrible. Do you remember Cherry's dead kits, Flameblood and Killerfang?" Leafpool nodded. "It's them, they are in my dreams. They...they..."
"They what, Jayfeather?"
Jayfeather let out a whimper and shook his head. He was trembling, and it worried Leafpool. 'I have to stay calm.'
"Come on, you can tell me. What happened?" She murmured, abandoning his shoulder to lick his head in comfort.
Jayfeather whimpered again, eyes wide in fear. A very small part in his mind was screaming at him and telling him not to tell her, but he was too…lazy? No, that wasn't the right word. It was something, and whatever it was made is tongue a little too active. "They are killing you, they are killing you and torturing you, and there's so much blood! And your screams, you won't stop screaming. You cry for me to help you and I can't, I can't because I hate you they say, and when I try to move I can't because my paws are stuck. And there was one dream where my paws were bloody, and I was standing over your body. My paws had your blood on them. I killed you. I don't want to kill you. And they won't stop until I forgive you, but I can't forgive you. I can't..."
"Ssh," Leafpool hissed quickly and licked his head fiercely. Those monsters! She knew Moonclan cats were horrible, but Starclan's pelt it was pure evil. She was pretty sure even the Dark Forest cats wouldn't do something so cruel; they'd rather kill you in your sleep than torture. When she visited to Moonpool again she would give them such a talking to...
Only she couldn't visit the Moonpool. She would be dead. 'Then I'll get them when I'm in Starclan,' she hissed in her mind with determination. No cat messed with her kits.
Jayfeather cried into her fur for a few moments and she let him, waving away Lionblaze when he walked in. "Don't let anyone come in here. Tell them that Jayfeather is sick." Lionblaze nodded and gave one last sad and hopeful look at his brother before leaving.
Jayfeather looked up and sniffed the air. "Was that Lionblaze?"
"Yes it was," Leafpool whispered. Jayfeather whimpered again.
"He hates me...and after what I did to him..."
"What did you do to him?" Leafpool asked, but Jayfeather went on to a completely different topic.
"And then the thing with Thornclaw and Toadstep and their anger towards you, saying that you're a traitor. They keep saying that you will run away with Crowfeather and abandon the clans like you did before."
"And what do you think?" Leafpool meowed lowly, starting to rhythmically grooming his fur again. She could tell that Jayfeather had been relaxed, too relaxed, and that he would practically tell her anything at this point. He was well drugged so she didn't really have to keep grooming him, but she wanted to. She would savor every last touch she had with her kit.
"Well, I want to stick to the belief that you will, because I am still angry with you and think you will betray us, me really. They wanted me to persuade Bramblestar to come to our side, but in the haze of Cherry and her crew coming here I haven't had the time to. I tried to persuade Lionblaze, but for some reason he didn't fall for it, even when I told him it was why Cinderheart didn't want him. Really, the reason Cinderheart doesn't want him is because she's already mated to Mousewhisker."
Leafpool nearly stopped her grooming. Cinderheart was mated to Mousewhisker? All this time she's been telling Lionblaze to wait... 'That mange! I'll rip her pelt!'
"Really now?"
"Yep," Jayfeather said lazily. "She did like Lionblaze at first, but then she started liking Mousewhisker and stuff happened. She's actually with kits, but only a moon. She doesn't know though. I had the urge to check on her when she was asleep one night, and that's how I found out."
Leafpool nodded her head, never breaking her slow pace. Oh did she have a thing or two to do to that she cat. 'Hmm, maybe I can get Sakura to help.' A plan was unfolding in her mind. Oh yes, that would work nicely, and she was sure they would carry on her plan after her death. 'And I get first view. Oh I'm going to enjoy watching that!'
"We recruited a lot of cats so far. Rosepetal, Brackenfur, Berrynose, Icecloud, Foxleap, Cinderheart and now we got Whitewing. We also are starting to get to Poppyfrost I think." He blinked in thought. "Starting to." he added after a beat. Leafpool was in despair. Knowing her son was recruiting other cats against her was one thing, but hearing it straight from him was another. It hurt, it hurt so badly, but she had to stay strong and milk as much information from him as possible. If she was to die she would give her clan a heads up first.
"I am actually starting to not believe Thornclaw and the lies he tell. I know they're lies, I really do, but I have to believe them, I have to in order to stay sane. One part of my mind is saying you mean well, but the other saying you mean to hurt. I want to let you be my mother Leafpool, I really do, but I can't, I just can't. I don't want to be hurt again. Finding out that my mother was a medicine cat and had kits with a Windclan cat, finding out that she wasn't good, a loyal cat to the clans. And then on top of that Hollyleaf told the clans and embarrassed us. Do you know how horrible it feels to have all of the cats know?"
Leafpool whined softly. It had been embarrassing. Living with a clan who doubted you was the worse feeling.
"And now you pull the half-moon thing on me. I mean, it's only been half of that, and yet my feelings and way of thinking is changing."
Leafpool stilled at that.
"What do you mean?" She mewed, and she tried her hardest to hide the desperation in her voice. Jayfeather didn't notice it, which was a good sign.
"I mean that I'm starting to think of you more as a mother than another cat. I don't want to hate you more and more now, and there is some times where I do consider you my mother." Leafpool was happy inside. She was changing him, she was doing it! "I actually do consider you my mother, deep down inside I do. I don't like hating. Hating takes too much energy," he whined, and at that Leafpool had to laugh. He sounded so much like a kit.
With her tail she slowly slipped out the poppy seeds she hid under his nest and nudged them to him. "Here, eat this."
"Why?" He slurred. Leafpool smiled at him.
"Because, now that I know you have been having horrible dreams you need to rest. I use to be a medicine cat, I know this."
He grudgingly licked up the poppy seeds and swallowed them, blind eyes glossy. "I think Thornclaw and Toadstep are also trying to turn the clan against Bramblestar too, now that they know I didn't turn him."
Leafpool perked up at this in alarm. "What?" Jayfeather yawned and blinked sleepily, but Leafpool lightly slapped his face with her tail. "No no Jayfeather, tell me."
Jayfeather groaned lowly and curled up. "Bramblestar won't believe them so he is a threat. They are going to frame him for helping you to try and escape with Crowfeather and make the clan turn against him. Then Lionblaze will be leader and Thornclaw the deputy, though Lionblaze won't make him deputy so they are making up a plan for Bramblestar to take the role away from Lionblaze and choose another deputy. Thornclaw says that when he becomes leader he will make Toadstep deputy but he li…l..." Jayfeather's eyes fluttering shut, "he lied to Toadstep. He says that when..."
He yawned again. Leafpool urged him on.
"He...when he becomes leader he will frame Toadstep and have him exiled...he thinks he can be a better leader that B...Bramblestar..."
Leafpool licked his head softly. "Thank you for telling me, my kit."
Jayfeather purred weakly. "Of course...mother..." He stopped talking and began to snore softly. Leafpool crept out of his den and turned to the fresh kill pile. Foxleap and Icecloud walked over to her.
"Is Jayfeather OK? Lionblaze said that Jayfeather was sick and that you were treating him." Icecloud mewed in concern.
Leafpool nodded. "He has a fever, he's asleep right now."
"I hope he gets better soon," Foxleap mewed softly and they both walked away. Leafpool grabbed a squirrel and quickly trotted to Bramblestar's den, Lionblaze joining her. Boy did she have a story to tell.
