"Jayfeather!" A cat screamed.
"Run run run!" a familiar and evil voice cooed.
"No! Leave her alone!
"No no no Feather boy, now you know better than that," a she cat cooed, chucking cruelly. She then pounced on the other she cat and knocked her against a large rock. The she cat crashed with a sickening thud and lied there for a second, then stood, legs shaking in fear, eyes wide.
"J-Jayfeather! Help me!"
"He can't help you, he hates you, remember?"
"He wants to exile you from the clan. He doesn't care for you anymore."
"Jayfeather!"
"Leafpool!" A tom yowled brokenly. The she car let put a whimper as Flameblood clawed her muzzle. Killerfang followed it up with a bite at her paw.
"Stop it!"
"Why? When she gets exiled she's going to die anyway," the red tom sneered coldly. Killerfang let out a maniacal laugh. "He doesn't know Flameblood, he doesn't know!" She delivered to Leafpool another deep wound. Her brother left a gash on her left flank.
"Stop it! Please! I'll do it just stop killing her!"
But the pleas were drowned out under the evil laughter of the sibling, the tearing of flesh and their soup crushing cries of Leafpool. The terrified tom was shivering where he was standing.
"How does it feel, the blood?" Flameblood hissed. The tom whimpered and stared at his mother. Torn apart, shredded, bloodied and blind. And still alive. A gash was over her throat, pooling on the ground and closer to him.
"Why Jayfeather?" She asked raggedly, and then the light in her eyes faded.
Looking down, said cat saw bloom on his paws, his claws extended.
"You killed her again!" Killerfang crowed.
Flameblood cackled. "You murdered your mother!"
"N-no! I didn't!" The tom shrieked, but the blood on his paws was proof. He murdered her. He did it.
"Jayfeather?" Leafpool asked. She was alive and well again.
"Mother!"
"Jayfeather!"
"Run run run!"
And then it started again. Green enraged eyes watched in the darkness
~ooo~
Jayfeather roused the clan with a yowl of fear and despair. Paws quickly made their way to his den. "Jayfeather! Jayfeather wake up!"
"No! Go away! Stop it!" He lashed out and slashed Leafpool against her cheek. She stumbled but didn't back down, pouncing on Jayfeather and pinning him down. Jayfeather flailed and threw her off, and it was then that Whitethunder barged in and placed a heavy paw on the grey tom, adding a bit more strength when he flailed harder. Lionblaze and Leafpool let him, going to either side of the terrified tom to wake him up.
"Jayfeather! Jayfeather wake up!" Lionblaze tried. Leafpool went for nuzzling his thrashing head. He kept yowling and thrashing, but after a while he started to calm, then his eyes snapped open abruptly.
"Jayfeather?" Leafpool asked cautiously. Jayfeather whimpered and curled up as soon as Whitethunder lifted his paw.
"They wouldn't stop. They- I tried to save you mother I really did..."
"Ssh ssh ssh," Leafpool hissed, pulling him close to her and curling around. She settled for licking his head. "You are awake now, they can't get to you now. Hush kit hush..." He buried his face into her fur, his whole body racked with tremors.
Bramblestar walked into the den. "Leafpool?"
"Dreams..."
He nodded in understanding, face frowning. "Clear the den, leave her, Jayfeather and Lionblaze on peace," he ordered, and them den was cleared. The last thing they saw was Lionblaze curling around the other side of his brother.
~ooo~
Leafpool emerged from the den, and boy was she angry. And in her anger, not caring for the fact that the cat was larger and stronger than her, she pounced on him with an angry yowl. Whitethunder was caught by surprise, so he didn't do anything when he heard her and felt the claws rake harshly over his back. He stumbled, and when he gained back his senses he bucked a few times and threw her off. She fell, but was up quickly and charged at her again. Cherry intercept, attempting to call her down, but in return receiving a scratch on her cheek. Whitethunder went to retaliate, but Lionblaze tacked him from the side. The four cats battled, yowling and spitting, one pair in blinded rage and the other in surprise and defense.
In the end, Bramblestar grabbed Lionblaze's scruff and dragged him away from Whitethunder, who was being pinned down by Longclaw, Mudfur, Sakura and Ocean. Sakura grabbed her mother and dragged her back, and Luna knocked Leafpool's paws from under her and pinned her by her neck. "What is the matter with you two?!" Bramblestar bellowed, shock and anger radiating off of him. "We do not fight inside the clan!"
"I don't care Bramblestar! Its their fault!" Leafpool spat.
"Our fault?! What is our fault?! What have we ever done to provoke you?!" Cherry yowled back, eyes clouded in anger. Leafpool struggled under look Luna, but the cream colored she cat kept her grip and silently slid our her clawz as a warning. Leafpool froze, it wouldn't do if she was to die before her time. With a lot of will and barely there sanity she calmed down. Lionblaze was already calm, or seemed to be, and was nursing his wounds. Whitethunder shook off the cats on him and glared at the two Thunderclan cats.
"Now, why did you attack them Leafpool?" Bramblestar asked calmly. The ginger she cat snarled.
"Its their fault Jayfeather is the way he is!"
"How is it our fault?" Whitethunder asked with held back rage. He kept his voice calm, knowing that shouting at the already enraged she cat would provoke another fight.
"Because you dead badger hearted kits are torturing my son!"
"Watch how you talk about my kits!" The Moonclan deputy warned, lips pulled up in a snarl. Autumnspot and Cherry were bristled and glaring at her.
Lionblaze padded over to his mother and rested his tail tiredly against her flank. "Breath Leafpool..." She bared her fangs, taking deep breaths several time before closing her eyes. When she opened them again they were a sane, if only a little.
"What does my brother and sister have to do with any of this?" Sakura hissed. Leafpool ignored her.
"You claim your clan are strong and cruel cats, and you are right! No, you are wrong! Not only are you that, but you are sick! Your kits belong in the Dark Forest!"
"Watch your tongue forest mange," Autumnspot hissed.
Whitethunder tossed him a glare. "Well Leafpool, instead of degrading my deceased kits and clan mind telling us why you are doing it?"
"They are the reason for Jayfeather's nightmares. They are the reason why he collapsed with neglected sleep and why he regrets going to the Moonpool. They are the reason why he fears the oncoming war!" The ginger spat, breathing heavily. Lionblaze placed his tail more firmly on her flank.
"My Flamekit and Killerkit would never do such a thing!" Cherry defended. Bramblestar grimace.
"I'm afraid they are the reason for his restlessness. And my Flamekit can see them, surprisingly."
"Its true," Lionblaze added.
Sakura and Whitethunder looked worried. "How? What can they be doing to cause your son uneasiness?"
"They are killing me that's what!" Confused faces from them and the clan forced her to elaborate, which she did eagerly. "Flameblood and Killerfang obviously have a grudge against Jayfeather because hates me and won't forgive me for my treason in the past, so in attempt to making him forgive me they kill me in his sleep. At first it went on for so long that he freaked out on me during the day, and he denied sleeping, too afraid to close his eyes again. They left, then came back for him again!"
Cherry was shocked, eyes wide in disbelief. "B-but Flamekit and Killerkit-"
"Flameblood and Killerfang," Leafpool interrupted, "did do it! Didn't you hear and see Jayfeather this morning?! Was that not proof enough for you?! I know because I watched it! They brought me to watch it!"
"What happened in the dream?" Cherrytail asked. Leafpool wrinkled her nose at her.
"You don't want to know..."
"I believe i do, because i don't believe it!" Autumnspot growled. In response, Leafpool snapped her teeth together.
"Alright, I'll tell."
And she did. She told them, and spared no one any mercy in detail. The clan was silent. Whitethunder closed his eyes and bowed his head. "I never though my kits would do such a thing. Had they been in our clan they would be true Moonclan warriors, but here..." Squirrelflight had run into Bramblestar's den in the middle of the telling, not wanting hear anymore. Thunderclan's cats glared at the other clan ones. "I am seriously sorry Leafpool, but it seems there isn't anything we can do. My kits are dead, how can we stop them?"
"I know how to stop them," she growled dangerously. "I'm going to the Moonpool tonight and setting them straight. Until then you stay away from me and my son, or I won't hesitate to claw off your fur."
"As understanding as that is Leafpool, threatening me won't work. You only caught me by surprise with that attack. I can easily kill you," he said darkly.
Leafpool gave him a feral grin. "Good, then I can properly deal with your bothersome kits. Know that why you Mooncpan cats are strong and fierce none of you can match the rage of a mother defending her kit." With that said she turned and stalked off to the medicine cats den. Lionblaze cut them a glare before following her.
There was silence again, no sound, not even the wind blowing the trees disturbed it. Bramblestar cleared his throat. "Alright, Ivypool, you, Molepelt, Briarlight and Longclaw go hunting. Foxleap, you, Millie, Cloudtail and Brightheart go patrolling the Riverclan border. Dovewing, you..." And just like that the cats were sent in their duties. Whitethunder and Cherry quietly retreated to the apprentice den.
~ooo~
Jayfeather was dreaming and warm. He was warm and safe. 'No blood,' he thought idly as he nuzzled into the warm fur. It smelled familiar, like a mixture of two very close cats. It took a while for him to register the scents. 'Lionblaze and...Leafpool?'
Quickly the warmth smelled of blood, making him whimper. The safe feeling vanished, and the dream he had before returned. 'No!' He started to wake himself up. He didn't want to dream of that again. It didn't stay long though, because the warmth returned. It coiled around him, tighter and tighter, until it was nothing he could think about or feel.
Happily, he sunk back into a deep dream.
~ooo~
Lionblaze shifted as Jayfeather uncurled himself and yawned. The sun had already been high in the sky for a while now. The grey tom lazily blinked his eyes and turned his head around the room. He heard talking, smelled some cats in and other out, and chose not to care about it. Someone started grooming his pelt, which he knew was messy, and he purred softly. No, he didn't feel like doing anything for a while.
"Ah, you're awake?"
His ears twitched. "Leafpool?"
"No it Squirrelflight," she mocked, then nuzzled his cheek. "How do you feel?"
"Rested," he mewed unsurely. "Why are you here?"
"Why wouldn't I be here? You aren't really able to do your duty right now."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"You've been removed from being a medicine cat for a couple days."
"What?! Why?!"
"Because you just woke up the whole clan with your freaky nightmares is what!" She snapped. She saw Jayfeather's face twist up in rage, so she pressed on. "Jayfeather you woke the clan then attacked me in you sleep. Here," she turned her head to the side. "Feel my right cheek."
Jayfeather frowned and raised an unsteady paw, touchig her neck first before feeling up to her cheek. He gasped, because the wound felt pretty deep. "I?"
"Yes. Flameblood and Killerfang are giving you a hard time aren't they?" She mewed sympathetically. She saw him freeze and sighed. "Yes I know, I've learned enough from you, Lionblaze and Bramblestar." She nudged his cheek. "
Don't think this means I will be nicer to you," he growled. A sharp nip made him squeak. "What the-"
"Hush kit. Your mother is already stressed out enough. Now lie still and let me finish cleaning you." Jayfeather was shocked. Why was Raven cleaning his fur? It was utterly weird. "Leafpool is taking over your den until you've calmed down. You'll be out for only three days, so don't worry."
Jayfeather sighed and gave in. No doubt if he took the case to Bramblestar the leader would automatically agree. A question racked his brain. "Why are you doing something Leafpool is suppose to do?"
"Because he is courting our mother," Lionblaze growled as he walked in, a bird in his jaws. Jayfeathet felt the Raven freeze and smelled a bit of anxiety from his fur. "Eat this," Lionblaze murmured, dropping it on Jayfeather's paws.
"I'm not helpless!" He snapped.
"Just eat it!" The ginger tom countered. Raven watched in amusement. Small paws walked into the den.
"Jayfeather?" Gingerkit asked timidly. The grey tom snorted.
"What?"
"I'm sorry!" Flamekit wailed and ran from behind her brothet and up to him, crashing into his shoulder. "I didn't call them honest! And now they keep attacking you!"
"Flamekit get off of me," he growled out.
"I'm sorry!" She apologized again.
Raven huffed. "Give her a break Jayfeather, she was worried about you."
"I don't need to be worried over," he muttered to himself. Jayfeathrr ate his bird slowly, ears twitching at the constant low rcket Leafpool made as she moved around the den. He heard hissing every now and then, making his heart flutter in fear. His head would turn to look for the cat who did it, hopeful not to see Killerfang and Flameblood, relieved when he realized it wasn't them.
As the day rolled onto night and every cat slept Leafpool snuck out of the clan and over to the Moonpool. She touched the water and closed her eyes, she found herself in a forest. 'Perfect,' she purred and waited in hiding. Flameblood and Killerfang walked through the forest in confusion, wondering why they were summoned. Next thing they knew they were being attacked. When it was over Leafpool returned to the clans sporting proud wounds, nodding to Cloudtail who was guarding the entrance. She snuck into the medicine den and dressed her injuries before wrapping around hers son and going to sleep.
In Starclan and Skyclan alike the cats laughed at the beaten warriors. Flameblood anf Killerfang hissed at them and licked their wounds. They vowed never to plague Jayfeather's dreams again.
