Soooo sorry for being gone for so long. I had a case of writer's block. Nasty stuff that is. Here, I sent you your chapter, and I'm editing the other one now as you read. enjoy! R&R!
Amber eyes of a golden brown tabby tom appeared here and there. A flurry of things happened, and that same tom was found running across the moors, hiding under bushes, climbing trees. Beside him ran a shadow moving on its own.
"Kill Bramblestar," they whispered. Again the cat and his shadow were spotted. "Kill Squirrelflight."
Now they were surrounded by a mass of colorful bodies. "Kill Bramblestar."
"Kill Squirrelflight."
"Kill her kits."
"Destroy the clans!"
"Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!"
Amber eyes flickered blue, a vengeful gleam in the cat's eyes. "First we will start with you." Leafpool yowled somewhere and Jayfeather quickly ran off in that direction. No matter how far he ran he couldn't get close to her. The screams continued, and he ran with a helpless dread filling him. He couldn't get close...he couldn't get close...
"Wake up Jayfeather!" Flameblood hissed, running his claws harshly over the dreaming tom's shoulder. Jayfeather jolted awake with a yelp, quickly looking around. Color was everywhere, and for a moment Jayfeather thought he was dreaming. Watching Briarlight walk into his den confirmed he wasn't. The she cat looked at him, her fur fluffed out in shock as Jayfeather's eyes latched onto her, a silent tremor of fear going through her.
'I can see,' he thought.
Killerfang grimaced. "You need to control your eyes," she muttered.
Jayfeather blinked rapidly and shook his head. It was dark again. "Briarlight?"
"Yea?" She answered, her voice wavering. Jayfeather huffed in irritation.
"Never mind."
He stood and walked out, pushing past her. Flamekit and Gingerkit were at his paws in a minute, and at that moment a shock hit him. He had to train both of these kits. 'Why me?' He thought in exasperation. The telltale signs of snickering Moonclan warriors sounded around him.
"I'll be an apprentice soon!" Gingerkit mewed.
"In less than three months yes, not now." Jayfeather told him. He didn't go to the pile; he went straight to the warriors den. "Leafpool!" He called. A groan was his answer. "Get up! We're going out!" He ordered.
"I swear you are bossier of then Squirrelflight, are you sure you are my kit?" She asked groggily as she stumbled out of the den. Jayfeather narrowed his eyes. He could tell her fur was clumpy.
"Yes, I'm pretty sure," he commented drily. "Come on." He led her to the pile and snatched a brown bird off it. Leafpool stared at him blankly. Jayfeather glared in her direction. "Lie down."
Leafpool sighed and flopped down in her side. Jayfeather placed the bird on her paws then sat beside her and started to groom her fur. Leafpool let out a shocked yowl. "Jayfeather?!"
"Hush!" He snapped. Leafpool obediently did so and ate her food. Jayfeather couldn't help but be aggravated, the dream he just had spooked him. He needed to calm down, and so far grooming her fur had helped.
Flamekit and Gingerkit exchanged glances before climbing on Leafpool's body and quickly licking her head and ears. The warrior couldn't suppress an mrrw of shock. "What are you two doing?"
"We are helping Jayfeather." Gingerkit muffled.
"Good apprentices help their mentors!" Flamekit added.
Jayfeather sneered lightly. "You two have a long wait before you become apprentices."
"We are preparing!" Gingerkit piped.
"Jayfeather what are you doing?" Foxleap asked. Jayfeather growled lowly at him. Ok, so he was still a little hostile towards the tom, big deal.
"I'm clean my mother. What does it look like?" Foxleap took a cautious step back; he felt the eyes burning into his fur and the hostility off of their medicine cat.
Raven chose that moment to walk over. "Are you taking Leafpool out hunting today Jayfeather?"
"Yea, so what?" The grey tom huffed. Raven tilted his head and opened his mouth to speak, but Leafpool chose that moment to dash out of Jayfeather's grasp and knock the kits off of her. The three yowled in surprise. "Hey!" Jayfeather snapped. Flamekit and Gingerkit gave her crossed looks.
"With all due respect, Jayfeather, I can clean myself, though I thank you for the attempt. Lionblaze needs me on hunting patrol today. You can take Raven with you."
"I'm not taking him with me." Jayfeather growled. Raven tried not to look a bit offended and possibly upset by that.
"Yes you are. You can have your own little hunting party."
Pale blue eyes narrowed. "Fine, come on Raven." He left without warning, leaving the long legged tom to scramble after him. Leafpool nodded her head in satisfaction and walked to the nursery. A loud yowl from Squirrelflight made her run. "What's going on?!"
Squirrelflight had a scratch across her face. It didn't look deep, but judging by the look on Cinderheart's face that was what she had intended. Cinderheart herself had a wound on her shoulder. It was deep.
"Icecloud, what happened?!" Bramblestar demanded. The white she cat looked surprised.
"I don't know!"
Bramblestar turned to Poppyfrost and Sorreltail, but they weren't in the den either. The only one who was in the den was Mousewhisker, and he looked stricken. Cinderheart snarled and stepped forward. "She is planning something, something that is going to harm me and my kits!" she accused. "She attacked me!"
Mousewhisker looked up from where he stood between the two queens. "Squirrelflight did attack Cinderheart, I saw it."
Squirrelflight's eyes widened. "You stupid fur ball, I would never!"
"Lies! I know you!" Cinderheart yowled.
"No you don't!"
"Silence! Mousewhisker, you and Squirrelflight are confined in the camp for a half moon. You will do apprentice duties." Bramblestar watched with mate with disappointed eyes, but under that disappointment was confusion. Mousewhisker huffed and dipped his head.
"Squirrelflight go to Jayfeather."
"Jayfeather is out with Raven and Leafpool in on hunting patrol." Birchfall supplied helpfully.
Bramblestar nodded his head. "Then wait in the medicine den. Mudfur will see to you."
Squirrelflight slinked out of the den. Sunkit ran to his siblings and told them what happened. Mousewhisker glared at his mate as he followed Squirrelflight, but Cinderheart smiled and winked at him. Obviously this was a part of her plan. He wanted to tell, but she would keep his kits from him. He wanted his kits; he would do anything for his kits.
Jayfeather and Raven returned a few minutes later. Raven was praising Jayfeather for his catch, a praise that was making the medicine cat swell with pride, when Ivypool came and told him what happened. He gave his prey to Raven and rushed inside the den. In the medicine den Jayfeather fixed his aunt a glare. "You didn't attack her did you?"
"No!" Squirrelflight wailed.
Jayfeather was silent for a moment before he nodded. "I believe you."
"You do?"
"Yes, because Killerfang and Flameblood see everything." He turned and glared at Mousewhisker. "Fix this, or suffer the consequences." He left to the back to get herbs.
Squirrelflight sighed. "I can't believe you are going like this? Why would you lie for her?" She asked the tom beside her. Mousewhisker clamped his mouth shut and looked away from her. She was planning to do something bad to the clan, he wouldn't tell her anything.
"I heard Sakura was looking for a mate. It's a good thing you are already mated, because you would be horrible. She would rather have a tom that would tell her everything than hide secrets from her and lie. She also wouldn't be like Cinderheart and force or trick her mate into do something horrible."
Squirrelflight turned away from him as Jayfeather came back. Mousewhisker wailed inside. Squirrelflight's words had struck him, hard. 'I am no good, and I'm gullible, I'm desperate.' He hung his head. 'I would be a horrible father to my kits, even if I am doing this for them.'
Mousewhisker wanted to find out for himself of Cinderheart was right about Bramblestar and the other though, he had to now who was telling the truth. 'But the best way to do that is to find out from the source.' And that meant one thing; Mousewhisker had to talk to Sakura.
~ooo~
Squirrelflight was treated like a rabid watch dog, all the cats tiptoed around her in case she attacked, but they all glared at her whenever she passed. Cinderheart seemed pleased with the treatment, if the way the cats kept close eyes on the ginger she cat as she neared the other made a difference.
Mousewhisker looked more and more distant by the hour, and Icecloud was torn. Squirrelflight told her that Cinderheart injured herself, then attacked her, and blamed her in self defense. Then again she knew Cinderheart, she wouldn't hurt herself. Hurting herself meant hurting her kits!
"Squirrelflight, what are you doing?" Icecloud queried as she saw the she cat slip out of the den.
Squirrelflight glared at her. "To make dirt, leave me be."
"I have to come with you, you know that right?" Squirrelflight huffed and ignored her and went about her business. Icecloud did follow her, through Squirrelflight didn't do as she said she would. She stayed in one place and fixed a forest green glare on her.
"You still think I'm a liar?" She hissed.
Icecloud tensed. "I don't know, I don't believe you would hurt a pregnant queen..."
"Then why are you believing Cinderheart?!"
"Because I know Cinderheart better, she wouldn't jeopardize her health and the health of her kits to get back at her enemy." Icecloud snapped. Squirrelflight snarled and advanced on her, making the other bristle and crouch. She didn't attack her though, she instead pushed pass her. Icecloud's ears twitched, but she followed the she cat back inside.
~ooo~
"Sakura," Mousewhisker whispered. It was dark and all of the cats were asleep. Four head rose, one was Whitethunder's, one was Cherry's, one was Autumnspot's and one was Raven's. In the middle of all of them was Sakura. She yawned and blinked her eyes sleepily.
"What do you want Mousewhisker?" She grumbled.
Mousewhisker fidgeted at the entrance of the den. "Um, can I talk to you, in private?"
"Why do you want to talk to my daughter?" Whitethunder whispered, and even when he whispered his voice rumbled like a thunderstorm.
Mousewhisker's ears drooped slightly. "Please? It's very important."
Sakura rose and stretched. "Stay Raven, I won't be gone long." The black tom slowly sunk back into his bed, mismatch eyes glued to the grey and white cat at the entrance. Sakura lead him out of the clan, muttering their whereabouts to Ocean and Luna, who were guarding the outside, and walked a little ways away from the camp.
Once they were at a safe enough distance Sakura turned to him. "What do you have to tell me that is so important?" She half growled, half sighed. She was playing with Flameblood and Killerfang in her dream, what he had to say had better be good.
"I-I lied." He confessed.
Sakura blinked slowly. "About...?"
"About what happened today with Cinderheart and Squirrelflight. Cinderheart hurt herself then blamed Squirrelflight." He closed his eyes tightly and bowed his head, waiting for the angry yowl or swipe he was sure to receive. When neither came he looked at her. She was fixing him a blank expression. "Sakura?"
"I know," she said after a while. "I knew you were lying."
"How?!" He gasped. "Did Flameblood and Killerfang tell you?"
Sakura stood and started to slowly circle him. "Yes, but also from the way you acted, how pained and guilty you looked when you agreed to her lie." She stopped. "You are like an open wound, all of your meat and muscle on display."
"I know," Mousewhisker sighed. "I am also easy to manipulate too, and I would do anything she said, or to put it in a blunter way, I'm desperate." Sakura tilted her head at this. "I heard you talking to the other about it."
Sakura tensed. "When?" She asked sharply.
Mousewhisker flicked his tail over his flank. "Cinderheart and I heard you talking about getting rid of her because she would mess up your plans for the clan." Sakura was horrified, they knew! "Sakura, just tell me one thing, please tell me whatever plan you have for Thunderclan is good, that it will help us."
"How much did you hear on what we said?" She asked slowly.
"Only the part about you needing to get rid of Cinderheart." He answered with a shrug. Sakura sighed in relief, he didn't hear anything important.
"Our plans for your clan will benefit you and us ourselves. It is why we are making it with Bramblestar." She peered close at him. "It might help you as well, but whether that is good or bad is entirely up to Starclan, and Skyclan."
Mousewhisker nodded. "Ok, Cinderheart is convinced that you are doing something bad for the clan. She wants Leafpool and Bramblestar dead."
"Figured," Sakura muttered.
"Please, whatever you do don't hurt her. She is my mate."
Sakura narrowed her eyes at him. "Wait...if you know what she is planning is wrong, then why are you helping her?"
"Because she has my kits."
Sakura studied him for a moment before realization dawned on her. "She blackmailing you with your own kits," she whispered. Mousewhisker looked down at the ground. Sakura felt two things, anger at Cinderheart for doing something so low, and sorry for the plan they had hatched on him.
She gave him a hug. Mousewhisker was surprised at the action, but he hugged her back anyway. She was warm and welcoming, not like Cinderheart. Cinderheart still believed in Thornclaw's words. "Let go back," she muttered. Mousewhisker nodded and followed her back, feeling like weight was lifted from his shoulder. They separated with their good nights and went to their dens.
~ooo~
'How dare him!' Cinderheart hissed. She saw the two return and was angered by it. 'Consorting with the enemy, that traitor!' Cinderheart huffed and curled up. It seemed she would have to put her second plan in action quickly; otherwise she would lose her mate.
'I will not lose him to a Moonclan rogue,' she hissed. It was a good thing she secretly went venturing today; otherwise she wouldn't have found that deep hole in the ground. 'I wonder how she would look impaled with spikes,' she thought with an evil chuckle. She went to sleep with happy, bloody dreams.
