Yes, I know I'm a horrible person for making you guys wait for this chapter for months and I am so so sorry! School has been really demanding lately and I am just so happy that I got to finally finish this chapter so y'all can finally read it read and tell me what you think!
"Draco! Stop it! Just close your eyes and let me guide you!"
"Why in the world do I even need to close my eyes?"
"Because it's a surprise." Hermione replied with a smirk.
"Yay! It's a surprise, Father!"
"Well, I don't really care at all about this surprise, son. As long as we can have some family vacation time then I'm all for it."
Hermione smiled and planted a quick kiss on Draco's currently annoyed lips as she continued to lead the two Malfoy men into their surprise getaway.
"Open your eyes!" Hermione exclaimed enthusiastically, barely holding on to her urge to start jumping up and down.
Draco took a few more seconds before opening his eyes as he was still smiling at how joyful Hermione's voice sounded just a few moments ago. Hmmm, judging from her excitement, I'd guess we're in one of the best hotels I own. Yup, she's probably freaking out over my magnificent taste in architecture, Draco thought smugly.
But his smug smile was actually short lived as his vision was assaulted by a simple suburban English street lined with neat medium sized houses standing rather dully in the morning sun. It was not at all the visual he had in mind for their relaxing getaway. Draco blinked a couple of times before sending Hermione a very confused look.
"Ta da! We're here!"
"Uhm, where exactly, love?" Draco asked incredulously.
Hermione only gave him a blinding smile and took hold of his hand once again while her other hand tightened its hold on Scorpius' little one. She joyfully dragged Draco towards one of the houses near the bus stop as Scorpius jogged along happily, his cheeks turning pink from the bite of air and the effort of brisk walking. Hermione wasted no time in ringing the doorbell right beside the white door of the yellow house, prompting Scorpius and Draco to look around for the source of the shrill ring. Hermione laughed at how clueless and confused both of them looked as she took Scorpius into her arms and let him press the small button, making the doorbell once again emit the shrill sound. Scorpius' eyes widened as he took in the wonder of the muggle contraption he has never before seen in his life and gave Hermione a smile, his body wriggling excitedly making Hermione giggle as Scorpius started to ring the doorbell repeatedly. Draco, on the other hand was not that impressed and was still struggling to comprehend whether they are indeed in their vacation spot or Hermione was playing a very cruel joke on him.
Just as Scorpius was once again about to assault the poor doorbell, A balding man wearing an immaculately pressed polo shirt tucked into a pair of khaki pants opened the door wide open with a kind smile.
"Well, finally! We've been waiting for you since last night! Come on in my darling girl and let's get this little mister out of the cold. You too, Mr. Malfoy come on in and get some breakfast." The man said, taking Scorpius out of Hermione's arms and letting him cuddle to his warm body. Scorpius, upon receiving a small nod and smile from Hermione to encourage him, was already cuddled up on the man's shirt and was starting to look around the muggle house. Draco was about to protest as he watched the man carry his son inside the house when the man looked back at them and gave Hermione a wink.
"Hermione, darling why don't you tell Mr. Malfoy to stop glaring at me and ask him to eat with us and get your things settled in the rooms upstairs."
Hermione gave off a small giggle and replied, "Sure dad."
Draco moodily glared at Hermione while eating his breakfast as the Grangers filled the room with their merry chat, it seemed like everyone was happy and excited except for him. In fact, even Scorpius was having the time of his life playing with his multi colored cereal. But even though he was in a foul mood, he still answered the Grangers' questions politely and good naturedly laughed at the childhood stories of Hermione. But every once and a while, he made sure to catch Hermione's eyes and glare at her serene face as her smirk only deepens with each passing moment.
"So, Draco, you probably know that we really don't have a lot of clue as to what is happening in the magical world. Please pardon us if we barely even know anything about you and your world save for the minimal things that Hermione had recounted to us in her stories." Jane Granger addressed Draco while piling their plates with more chocolate chip pancakes.
"So what exactly is it that you do in the magical world?" she asked as she loaded Scorpius' pancake with a whip cream smile.
Draco's death stare veered away from Hermione and considerably softened upon meeting Jane Granger's calculating one.
"It's no big deal, Mrs. Granger. I actually find it very refreshing that you don't really know anything about me. It lets me present a clean slate for you and your husband." Draco smiled before continuing. "I've got a few businesses around the muggle and wizarding world, Mrs. Granger. I have a few companies here and there but mostly I focus on the hotel industry."
"Hmmmm, the hotel industry? That's an all year, round the clock type of work, yes? How are you supposed to take care of my darling girl and your son when you're off fixing things in your hotels? And don't get me started on providing us with grandbabies!"
Hermione let out a huge groan and tried to glare at her mother as her eyes continue to dance with amusement.
"Mum, we just got here. Can't you save the interrogations for later when we're all relaxed and ready to pass out?" Hermione said with a smile, her cheeks turning a brilliant red.
Jane only shrugged, steepled her fingers together and determinedly looked at Draco as if motioning him to start explaining himself.
Under the table, Draco gripped Hermione's hand with one of his own and gave it a slight squeeze, telling her that he didn't mind in the slightest whether her mother would start interviewing him now until the end of their stay.
"I've always believed in putting my priorities first. And right now and until the end of time, my number one priority is my family." He said clearly while nodding his head towards Scorpius and then meeting Hermione's smile, letting everyone in the table know that the family he's talking about is composed of his son and his girlfriend.
"Even before Hermione came in my life, I was already juggling my time between work and my son and I've always made it a point never to let him feel like he's coming second to anything, especially my work. And now that Hermione's here, well, that belief just strengthened."
"And don't worry, Mrs. Granger, we're working hard in the production of those grand babies, they'll be here soon enough." Draco finished as he winked at Hermione who was still trying to hide her blush.
Jane clapped her hands in glee and looked at her husband, "Did you hear that, Henry? We're going to have grand babies soon! Oh Lord, I just can't wait for that day!"
Hermione buried her face in her hands and groaned loudly as Draco swung his long arm behind her chair and cuddled her to his chest while laughing. He couldn't believe that he was actually enjoying this impromptu meet and greet with his girlfriend's parents. He always imagined this particular meeting to be full of criticisms and threats from both Jane and Henry. And for the love of Merlin, he never even thought about being introduced to them so brashly in their relationship. If he had known that they were actually heading to Hermione's family home then he would've prepared and prepped everything that he was going to say during the duration of their stay. Maybe write down a speech about how much he loves their daughter. But even though Hermione basically blindsided him and in a way forced him to meet her parents, he still can't find it within himself to hate Hermione. Of course, that may have something to do with the fact that he's desperately in love with her and he really wants to make a very good impression on her parents for he knows how much they mean to her. He was also very surprised of himself as to how much fun he was actually having just talking and hanging out with the Grangers. Of course he would've preferred a vacation where Hermione was lounging in her bikini 24/7, but this alternative was turning out okay. All that matters to him was that they were all together and very far away from the judging eyes of the wizarding world. Even Scorpius was having fun looking, touching and asking about the different muggle knick knacks all over the Granger house. He was even brave enough to sit on the dentist chair in the Grangers' clinic located right beside their house and get his teeth checked out. Draco was a bit skeptical at first upon learning that Hermione's parents we're some kind of teeth doctors who doesn't employ the use of magic in any of their procedures. He was biting his nails off the whole time Scorpius was having his teeth cleaned with all those pointy and noisy equipment. But Scorpius, a real Malfoy man, barely flinched as Henry cleaned his teeth the muggle way.
It was just after breakfast when Jane dragged her daughter to go grocery shopping with her and catch up with much needed girl time while the men we're going to have "man bonding" as Scorpius had put it. They left the men watching muggle sports on the flat screen while Scorpius was cuddled up to Draco ready for his nap. Hermione gave her dad and Scorpius a small peck on the cheek and gave Draco a quick kiss on the lips before heading out the door.
"He's a handsome young fellow, isn't he?" her mum suddenly asked while pretending to look at some oranges near a daydreaming Hermione.
She of course blushed and offered her mum a shy smile.
"And he's very good with his little boy. I can already tell he loves him very much even though I've been around them for all of a couple of hours."
Hermione nodded while prodding an orange, "Yes, he does love him very much."
"Does he love you?" Jane asked without a hint of shyness.
"Yes." Hermione replied, pushing the cart towards the apples and trying her best to nonchalantly answer her mother's questions.
"What about you? Do you love him?"
"Yes." Hermione simply replied once again, earning a blinding smile from her mother.
Hermione couldn't help but smile in return as they slowly made their way towards the dairy section.
"That's it mum? You aren't going to ask me why I love him or how we met?"
Jane Granger only shook her head and looked at her daughter.
"The purest kind of love doesn't require a reason why, darling. Love doesn't ask stupid questions like that. Love is just simply what it is. And I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to explain it yourself cohesively if I asked you why and what you love most about him anyway. Which just strengthens my resolve that the two of you are on the right track."
Hermione silently watched her mother decide between almond milk and soy milk as she processed what she just said to her. She tightened her grip on the cart's handle as she realized that her mother was actually correct. They never really stopped to list down all the things that they loved about each other, frankly they never had the time and Draco probably doesn't have the patience. And until now they probably wouldn't be able to properly explain to other people just why they connect in such a deep way, for in the first place, they themselves don't even understand it. They just took their feelings as they are and freely expressed it to one another. No questions asked.
"Hmmm, I do have a question to ask actually." Jane suddenly interjected Hermione's thoughts with a teasing smile.
"When is he going to propose and make an honest woman out of you?"
Hermione's jaw dropped at the same time that her cheeks turned bright red at the frankness of her mother's question.
"Mum! We haven't really talked about marriage and settling down together like that. Things just got settled with us and honestly I don't think he wants to get married again. He just doesn't strike me as someone who's husband material, you know?"
Her mother raised an eyebrow at that statement, "That boy is not a lot of things, but I'm pretty sure he is indeed 'husband material' as you've put it. Are you saying that if Scorpius wasn't here then you wouldn't see Draco as someone who would be an excellent father? Look at him now! He's an amazing father and he will be an amazing husband as well. No one is ever of husband material right before they become a husband, Hermione. You've got to trust him."
"It's not that I don't think he will be an amazing husband. I know he will be. I just don't think he wants to get married again, that's all. I think he likes where we are right now and he hasn't really brought up the subject with me." Hermione explained while nervously twirling a lock of her hair.
"Are you saying that Draco doesn't want to be with you in the long run?" Jane asked.
Hermione took a moment before opening her mouth and immediately closing it again,
"I … I don't know."
Jane's gaze softened as she approached her daughter and drew her in for a hug.
"I think deep inside you know, darling. You know that what you have with him and Scorpius is something that has a ring of permanence and I think you're scared to even admit it. Hell, the boy already calls you his mummy. I think that in itself is already a huge telling sign as to the future where the three of you are heading. I just want you to remember that this man isn't Ronald Weasley or any of those boys you've dated before. In fact he's far from them. Did he ever stuffed your head with false promises? Does he make you question the strength of your relationship with his actions and words?" Hermione shook her head, no.
"Well then, there you go. He's as a far a fellow as you can get from Ronald or Dennis or whoever else."
"I'm just scared." Hermione whispered as her mind took a little walk back to her ruined relationship with Ron in the past just after the war.
"It's not that I think the two of them are the same. I know just how much they're different. It's just that…..what I felt for Ron before, doesn't even come to half of what I'm feeling for Draco now. I was able to stand up and face the world after my breakup with Ron. But if this thing with Draco ends in a similar way…well, I don't think I'll be able to walk away unscathed."
"I don't know how to stress this even more, darling. But you've got to trust him. The two of you have gone through so much already, which isn't to say that you and Ronald haven't, but this time is very different. And trust him and your love in guiding the two of you through everything and anything that'll come your way. Anyone with two eyes can see just how much the two of you love each other, Hermione." Jane leaned back on their embrace and looked at Hermione in the eye once again.
"If your love for one another doesn't scare you, then you don't love each other enough."
Hermione smiled at her mother's words and went back to pushing the trolley. The rest of the conversations during the grocery trip was light hearted and mostly centered around Scorpius and the near end of Hermione's healer training. They even laughed at how stupid they might've looked a couple of minutes ago while hugging in the dairy section of the grocery.
The two of them arrived to an otherwise quiet house as they set the grocery bags down and went in search of the men. They found Hermione's dad painting the fences near the backdoor but still no Draco and Scorpius in sight.
"Umm dad, do you know where Draco and Scorpius are?"
Henry gave his daughter a smile and pointed somewhere farther down the backyard to Draco who was squatting down and trimming the wild bushes with small craft scissors while Scorpius was holding a small watering can over the flowers and was gently sprinkling them and at the same time giving them words of encouragement for them to grow all healthy and pretty.
Hermione muffled her giggles with her hand as she faced his father,
"Does he know that there are gardening sheers for that?"
Henry gave out a small laugh,
"I don't think he does!"
Hermione gave his father a disapproving look as she continued to tamp down her smile. Henry threw his arms in an act of surrender as he regarded her daughter,
"What? He said he wanted to help! And I told him they needed a little trimming."
Hermione only shook her head as she called the two Malfoy men back into the house for a light snack to replenish their strength. Draco went straight to her and gave her a kiss, asking about their grocery trip while Scorpius was already bursting with new stories to tell her even though they've only been apart for less than a couple of hours. Draco wrapped her up in his arms and led her back to the kitchen, asking her and Jane if they needed any more help with preparing the snacks.
When they finally convinced Draco that they can manage without his help and was able to send him back to the living room, Jane softly bumped her hips with Hermione's and whispered
"I told you he's husband material."
Hermione only shook her head at her mother's antics and went straight to Draco and Scorpius who are now back at the living room.
"Here you go! Sandwiches for my two very helpful men." Hermione chimed as she kissed each of them.
Both men immediately dove in to their sandwiches without even looking away from the huge flat screen which was now playing one of Scorpius' favorite cartoons. Hermione didn't miss the way that Draco flinched as he took hold of his glass of lemonade and took a sip from it. She quietly took his hand in hers and stared at his palm which was covered with small cuts and blisters from trimming the hedges.
Slowly, without taking her eyes away from Draco's who was now staring at her intently, she kissed his right palm and quietly muttered a quick healing spell. Without missing a beat, she did the same for his other palm.
"Thank you." Draco whispered with a small smile.
"It's just a simple spell, Draco." Hermione answered him chidingly as she started to pull her hands away.
Draco however had a different idea as he tightened his grip on her hands, "Not just for the healing spells, but for everything. For taking me to meet your parents, for taking care of me and Scorpius, for spending this vacation with me and your family."
Hermione smiled as she planted a quick kiss on Draco's lips.
"You're very much welcome, love. But I hope you're not too fond of spending time with my parents since we'll be leaving in a couple of days to spend our real vacation alone with just the three of us."
Draco's eyes widened in shock as he took in Hermione's words.
"What? You really thought were spending our vacation here? Of course not! I want to see you in some nice swimming trunks and I want you all to myself!" Hermione laughed as she skipped out of the living room, leaving Draco gaping behind her.
"Daddy, your mouth is open."
Draco immediately shut his mouth and hugged Scorpius to his body, barely containing his glee upon knowing that he was finally going to get his dream vacation.
Ok so this chapter was just a random idea of mine and kind of a copout since I still haven't really decided on where they should have their vacation HAHAHAHA! You guys gave me so many places to choose from and I am so torn! Aside from that, I just really wanted to write something about Hermione's parents since I don't usually see this angle pursued by a lot of Dramione stories. They help with the whole family emotional aspect that I'm going for with this story so I figured why not write about them.
Hope you guys enjoyed reading that and that you'd drop a review or a comment. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME MORE IDEAS AS TO WHERE THEY SHOULD SPEND THEIR VACATION AND ALSO WHAT ACTIVITIES YOU WANT THEM TO DO IN THEIR VACATION.
LOVE YOU GUYS AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
Love lots,
The Malfoys
