Here is the next chapter! I think I scared a lot of people there...*snickers*
Whitethunder was body of rage and grief. When Molepelt and Brightheart came and screamed his name he ran out without a second though. Cherry, Autumnspot and the rest followed him, and when he came to the place where the two Thunderclan cats showed him he hastily pushed them out of the way and peered down in the hole.
Cherry followed him and let out a cry. "What happened?!"
"S-Sakura..." Cinderheart whimpered and dipped her head.
"Sakura fell down the hole..." Cloudtail mewed gravely. He retreated quickly when Whitethunder snarled at him.
"You lie! She didn't!"
"She did! We are walking and the ground crumbled! Sakura pushed me out of the way just in time and..." Cinderheart sniffles. "I'm sorry..."
"No," the white tom whispered. Not his kit, not his only surviving kit.
"Sakura is dead?" Luna asked. No one answered her. The white she cat shook her head and ran back to the camp. Ocean followed her. Brightheart laid a tail on Whitethunder's shoulder and walked away. All of them followed her.
~ooo~
Cherry's cries could be heard from Windclan. Crowfeather wondered just what had happened as he patrolled the borders with his mate, son and Ashfoot with sunhigh patrol. He saw Lionblaze with Bumblestripe, Millie and Blossomfall and walked towards them. Ashfoot hissed for him to stop but he ignored her.
"Lionblaze!" He called. The ginger tom looked his way and that shocked Crowfeather. He looked to be on the verge of tears. He took a step closer. "What's going on? We can here Cherry from our side of the border."
"Crowfeather!" Nightcloud growled.
Breezepelt stepped up to the border and glared at Lionblaze. "What wrong kit?" He sneered.
Lionblaze didn't even retaliate. "Sakura is dead," he muttered. Millie placed a tail on Lionblaze's shoulder and urged him along.
The three Windclan cats were shocked. Ashfoot stomped over to them. "Tell me why you abandoned your patrol!" She demanded.
Nightcloud turned to her with wide eyes. "Sakura is dead."
Ashfoot frowned. "She is dead?" Nightcloud nodded. Ashfoot shook her head. "The prophecy! What about the foreign clans?"
Breezepelt dipped his head in respect. When he looked up he turned frosty eyes to their deputy. "The prophecy won't be fulfilled. We have to fend for ourselves."
"Whitethunder and Cherry are still there, it can still be saved right?"
"We don't know."
Ashfoot nodded. "We will send Kestrelflight to the Moonpool tonight. We must tell Onestar!" The four cats ran back to their camp.
~ooo~
Sakura's death spread throughout the forest like wildfire. All of the medicine cats were sent to the Moonpool that night. Once they entered they quickly took up their positions and dreamed. Leafpool and Jayfeather were met with angry ancestors.
"We told you to watch for the lies and traitors in your clan! We warn you!" Bluestar hissed.
Leafpool glared at her. "What does that have to do with Sakura's death?! What about the prophecy?!"
"Is she with Skyclan?" Jayfeather asked.
"No she isn't," Flameblood and Killerfang hissed.
"That means she isn't dead." Jayfeather whispered.
"But the blood!" Leafpool said on confusion.
"She is still alive!" Silverclaw hissed. "You have to find her. If you don't then she will die!"
"But how? There are spikes down there and it is too dark! You don't expect us to just jump down there do you?" Leafpool whimpered.
The red she cat shook her head. "Not you, Jayfeather."
Jayfeather gave her an incredulous look. "You have got to be kidding!"
"This is what we have been training you for!" Whitespawn, Fecklestrike, Greenhop and Lillystrike materialized beside the feared Moonclan warrior.
"This is your test Jayfeather. If you pass you live, and if you fail you die, and the clans will be shrouded in darkness. There will be deadly enemies down there." Whitespawn hissed.
"This is your last part in the prophecy besides training Flamekit." Greenhop mewed.
"Leafpool, you will have to take his position until he comes back." Fecklestrike mewed.
"You have three days!" Firestar mewed urgently. "Starting tomorrow."
Jayfeather nodded. He knew something was up with the unusual fighting four cats at once and living through the pain for days.
The cats faded away and the two woke up.
"She isn't dead..." Littlecloud whispered. His eyes were wide in hope. "We still have a chance!"
Jayfeather shook his head. "She isn't. There is still hope for the clans."
A breath of relief escaped the medicine cats, though Leafpool and Jayfeather weren't so happy. On their way back to the clans they stuck close to each other by some unknown force. When they entered the clan they went to Bramblestar. The leader jumped onto the Highledge.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join under the Highledge for a clan meeting!"
The cats swarmed, eager and anxious. "What did they say?"
"Are we doomed?"
"Did you see my daughter there?"
"Silence!" Bramblestar hissed. "Sakura is not dead, but she is badly injured." Yowls of relief filled the air.
Whitethunder stepped forward with hopeful eyes. "She isn't dead? How do you know this?"
"Silverclaw has been watching over her. After your flaw with Flameblood and Killerfang she hasn't trusted you." Jayfeather mewed bluntly. Whitethunder tucked his tail lightly. He knew he had lost the old Rīdākirā's respect. "She can't see Sakura, but she can feel her. She is in a dark place. She lives, but not for long, unless she is found."
"Send a party to find her!" Autumnspot demanded.
"I will go!" Cherry volunteered.
"I will as well!"
"As will I!"
Bramblestar raised his tail for the cats to be silent. "Cherry, you, Raven, Whitethunder and Lionblaze will go."
"No," Jayfeather mewed with a scowl. They all talked too much. "I have to go, alone."
"WHAT?!" Immediately protests rose in the camp.
"You are a medicine cat! You can't go!"
"You are needed by the clan!"
"You are blind!"
"Who said that?!" The grey tom snarled. All of them went silent. "Who said I can't go because I am blind?!" He snarled again, fur bristled.
"Jayfeather, you can't go." Bramblestar said sternly.
"He is the only who can go," Leafpool mewed calmly. All of them threw her questioning looks. "Jayfeather has been undergoing vigorous training for exactly this moment."
Jayfeather nodded his head. "Silverclaw and four other blind Skyclan warriors have been training me nonstop for this. It is the only reason, aside from the battle, for my training."
"You can't be serious," Lionblaze mewed. "That's too dangerous! It's dark down there!"
"I am blind, Lionblaze. I can navigate through the darkness better than all of you."
"What are the risks," Squirrelflight demanded.
Leafpool dipped her head. "If he is successful the prophecy will continue on. If he fails, Sakura will die and he will die, and the clans will be doomed."
Bramblestar couldn't silence the uproar this time. Jayfeather's tail flicked in irritation as he waited for the cats to be quiet.
"There has to be another way!" Whitewing pleaded. "It's too risky!"
"You doubt my talents?" Jayfeather challenged.
"No, we are worried for your safety!" Sandstorm whispered as she limped towards him. "Not only are you our medicine cat, but you are my grandkit. I can't let you do this."
"It is one of his roles in the prophecy, mother. I don't like this any more than you do, no much more." She closed her eyes. "It is the will of both Starclan and Skyclan. He has to do this." It was silent. The silence gave Jayfeather enough time to think, enough time to converse with Flameblood and Killerfang.
"We won't be with you," Flameblood mewed.
"I figures that," he muttered.
"You won't be able to use your sight," Killerfang warned.
"I'm better off blind." He countered. The two Moonclan cats nodded.
"It is settled. Jayfeather will go tomorrow to find and rescue Sakura." He jumped from the ledge and slid into his den. The cats dispersed, though they watched as Jayfeather ran to his den with Leafpool in tow. The two cats curled up with each other quickly, as close as they could. Leafpool started to groom his fur in slowly soothing licks, but it didn't help the tom go to sleep. He didn't really sleep until the break of dawn.
