Chapter Thirty One

Jamie was silent as they brought Honor in. Melinda, Honor's lawyer, and Heath were also in the room. As soon as they sat her down, Melinda said, "Honor, you don't have to talk to him."

"I know," she replied, shrugging slightly.

"Alone," Jamie said.

"Excuse me?" Melinda asked.

"I want to talk to Honor alone."

"Jamie, I don't know if that's a good idea," Heath cautioned.

"Oh, come on, Counselor," Honor said, holding up her wrists. "What's the worst I can do?"

"Alone or not at all," Jamie asserted, watching Honor.

Heath looked at Melinda, who shrugged. "We'll be outside," she said.

Jamie didn't react as the lawyers walked out of the room.

"Well, Jamie, you got me alone," Honor said. "Now what?"

"You tell me," he replied.

"You're the one who wanted to talk."

"Heath wanted me to talk to you."

"Did he tie you up and drag you here like we did?"

Jamie glared.

"So, you agreed to come of your own volition," she said. "Which tells me you want something. So, what is it? A go around? Because, I'm a little tied up, but I think we could work something out…"

"Shut up," he told her.

She laughed softly. "So, you do have balls in there somewhere."

Jamie shook his head. "Why, Honor?"

"Why what?"

"Why'd you do it?"

She shrugged. "Put yourself in my shoes," she said. "Someone else's family takes out one of yours. Which, we did, but that's besides the point. Don't you want revenge? If we'd have gone after Nicki, or Erin, or Sean, or Jack. What would you do?"

"Put you exactly where you are now," he told her coldly.

She scoffed. "You can pretend all you want, but I know the truth. You'd kill one of us for that if you had the chance. Which, you don't. And when we get out of here… the things we'll do to Danny and the rest of you assholes…"

Jamie groaned, but said nothing.

"We will get out, you know," she reminded him. "Part of the deal. So sweet of Heath to offer one. And when we do, I know you'll be looking over your shoulder, watching, waiting. Wondering if and when we'll strike next."

"No, I won't," Jamie said, despite the uneasiness bubbling up inside him.

"Yes, you will. You forget, Jamie, but I know everything we did to you. Everything we put you through. And that won't go away so easily. As I'm sure you're already aware."

Jamie shook his head. "I'm fine."

Honor cracked a sadistic smile. "Sure you are. Tell me, how often do you call your big brother, crying about what we did? Do you even talk to your sister? Or your sister-in-law? Probably not. Because Danny took your statement, so Danny already knows some of it. Easier to keep it only to one, huh?"

Jamie said nothing.

"Bet you're seeing a shrink, too," she continued. "Nice little head doctor trying to undo the shit we stirred upstairs. You think you'll ever be whole again? Think Daddy will ever let you back on his police force again?"

"Shut up," Jamie said.

Honor laughed again. "The weakest of the Reagans."

"I still got away."

She leaned forward toward him. "I let you go."

"Why?"

"Because I never thought you'd get that far. It was all a part of it. Let you think you were free, then yank you back and screw with you some more. But you were gone too fast. Liam was actually pissed. He'd thought he'd broke you more than that."

Jamie shrugged. "Can't break me."

Honor scoffed. "Tell that to your limp."

"It was a game, though, wasn't it? The nice act?"

"Of course. Easiest way to control you: think you're sacrificing yourself for someone else. You Reagans are easy to manipulate."

Jamie shrugged again. "So you think, but you're also the one in prison while I walk free. So who's the winner here?"

Honor smirked again. "Try answering that question when you're up again tonight."

"Pretty sure I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight."

"Fitting, because not all infants sleep through the night. They start crying."

"Guess you'll never truly know, because you'll be in prison. No conjugal visits, no baby. Never gonna get to be a mother."

"Never say never, Jameson," she taunted. "Never say never."

"Have fun in gen pop," he replied, knocking on the door to signal that the interview was over. The door opened, and Jamie walked out as Melinda walked in. Heath caught up to him in the hallway.

"You okay?" the attorney asked.

"Fine," Jamie replied sharply. "How good's her deal?"

"15-20 years. She's going away for a long time, Jamie. You won't have to worry about her."

"Liam?"

"20-25."

"Parole?"

"Seven for her, ten for him."

Jamie nodded, sighing.

"They pled to assaulting an officer, assault and battery, and felony kidnapping. It's not enough for life, but it's enough for a long time."

"I understand," Jamie said softly.

"I know, you're a lawyer too," Heath said.

"I gotta go. Bye, Heath."

"Bye."

Jamie left abruptly, leaving a stunned Heath in his wake.
