A/N: Just a little something to tide you over. I'll probably be adding another chapter later, but I'm going to be packing so I didn't wanna forget to upload and not be able to do it for a while if the place I'm going doesn't have WiFi, which is why the chapter is so short. Be warned, it's some more Rory/Phillip action but I promise next chapter will have Killian and Rory.
Frogs. Dissection. Our chemisty teacer had a heart attack and once again, Ms. Mills had to sub. For whatever reason, she wants us to put frog heads in our pre-made solutions and watch how it reacts.
I think this should count as torture. If not to us, then at least to the frogs. I understand its a dog eat-dog world but frogs aren't really predators. They eat flies. They're basically harmless. If people are going to kill frogs they should at least kill the poisonous ones.
I kept making faces at the frog. How could anyone enjoy this? I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Phillip, bag in hand and a friendly smile on his face. My heartbeat quickened. His smile was infectious and I found myself smiling along with him.
"Mind if I partner with you? My last one is sort of in the hospital" He looked amused. Which was odd, since he was talking about his partner being in the hospital. "What... Happened" I asked warily.
"He caught on fire. Definitely not my fault however, as I loudly and clearly said; dude, you're on fire". I couldn't help but laugh at the story. Or at least of the way he told it with wild hand gestures. I noticed he did have a hint of an accent, though not quite as pronounced as Killian's. Is comparing two brothers as wrong as it sounds? Now I feel really bad.
"Alright, alright. Come help me with the frog" I looked at it again with disgust on my face.
"If it bothers you, I could get the heart out" He offered and reached out for the knife but I stopped him.
"No, I got it. Its just a bit unsettling seeing all these frogs dead when they shouldn't be" And with that, I cut a slit into the belly of the frog and began to look for the heart.
Phillip, I assumed was fixing the solution because he was putting things into a glass beaker. "So you're one of those types, eh?" He said without looking up. Was he mocking me?
I turned to face him. "What type?" I asked curiously and he shrugged. "You know. The type that you are"
I was more confused than ever. "What type?" I asked again as I put the frog's heart into the beaker.
Phillip turned to reply but our beaker started fizzing and before I knew it, Phillip had thrown himself at me, we fell to the floor, and our beaker xploded, frog heart and all. I vaguely heard an alarm.
"Hi" I said uncomfortable. "Hi" He replied, looking into my eyes. He got up and offered me his hand but the smell of smoke stopped me.
I looked over at Phillip and noticed the bottom of his pants were on fire. "Dude, you're on fire!" I nearly yelled as Phillip started jumping around.
I jumped up and grabbed a clean beaker and filled it with water and ran back over to Phillip and threw it on the fire that had started to spread. I sighed in relief as it died immediately.
"Are you alright?" I asked, concerned. "I dunno Rory. I think I'm in shock" He grabbed my hand and placed it over his heart which was beating quickly. I'm sure mine matched his.
I couldn't help but laugh at the situation and poked him in the chest. "Well don't blame me. I clearly and loudly warned you that you were on fire"
Before he could reply, Ms. Swan poked her head in. "What are you two doing? That's the fire alarm, come on" She sounded nice but her tone indicated that she wasn't going to wait on us to follow her.
Me and Phillip quickly grabbed our school bags and followed Ms. Swan to the outside of the school where everyone else was. The firefighters were already there. When Ms. Mills saw us, she made a beeline straight toward us. That's not good.
"You two, what happened?" She asked while gritting her teeth. "Uh, we were just doing the experiment and it blew up" I replied nervously.
What was her problem? It was an accident and noone was hurt. Well Phillip may have a burn on his leg but if he did, it didn't seem to be bothering you.
"Did you add in all the solutions?" Ms. Mills questioned. Phillip nodded.
"The exact right amount?" She asked. Phillip nodded again.
"The frog's heart" She was starting to look annoyed. This time I nodded.
"Did you salt the heart before placing it into the solution?" I started to nod but stopped myself. Did I? I couldn't remember.
"Actually" I began but was cut off by Phillip. "That was my job and I forgot to do it. Sorry Ms. Mills, it won't happen again."
Ms. Mills looked dangerously mad but took a deep breath and glanced over at Ms. SwanSwan for a second before answering. "I should suspend you. But seeing as it was an accident I'll just give you a month's worth of detention. Both of you."
"Thank you for your kindness, Ms. Mills. We promise-" He looked at me. "This won't happen again."
Taking my cue, I also started apologizing. "We really are sorry and promise not to screw up-"
Ms. Mills by that point looked otherwise preoccupied by the firemen and police heading our way. "Excuse me" She said politely. "I have to go deal with this"
