WALLY WEST

As we left one of the many diners in Central city, I patted my full-satisfied stomach. I loved eating out with my friends, especially Dick and Verena.

Why, you may ask? Because not only did I get lots of food, but also I got to crack out my Oh-Wise-Wallman self. … And tease them.

I took a sip of my smoothie as I watched Verena walk casually ahead of me a few steps. I cocked my head to the side, observing her quietly.

She was always bright, but now, she was radiating. Was it because of the sun that was shining brightly above us? Probably, but to me, she looked radiant.

Her eyes were clear, focused, and free, something that I haven't seen in a while. With the whole fight between Dick and her, along with the simulation gone wrong, the life in her eyes was practically zapped away.

There was a bounce in her steps as she walked on the semi-busy sidewalk, and I just wanted her to wear some bunny ears to go along with her joyful attitude.

She smiled at everyone she made eye contact with, which caused some people to give her either curious looks or smile back. There really was no getting angry at Verena when she was in a good mood.

I took another sip of my smoothie with a smile on my face; her smile was contagious.

"Wally," Verena suddenly said, turning around to face me. "You're walking too slow."

I arched a brow. "Are you calling me slow?" I was a lot of things, but slow, I was not.

Verena grinned, "Maybe~" she teased before dashing off.

That so was unfair.

I quickly downed the rest of my smoothie, throwing it in a trash can and darted off after her, trying to keep a normal pace to not attract attention.

We zigzagged through the entire city, and for the first half of the chase, I thought she was just running around randomly. During the second half though, I realized she was running with an intent.

I whizzed past the Central City Park sign and when I turned back to look in front of me, Verena was gone. I stopped and looked around, "What the…?" Man, I hated it when she did that!

A light giggling filled the area, and I knew she was up in the trees… but where?

I took a quick look around and when I didn't see anyone near us, I disappeared in a blur, searching through all the trees.

Before I could get to the fifteenth tree, something barreled towards me, knocking me back. The air escaped from my lungs as I was tackled to the ground.

I looked up and saw Verena sitting on top of my abdomen with her legs on one side and her hand resting on my chest to steady herself. She looked at her left hand casually, inspecting her perfect nails.

"Looks like I win," she turned her head to grin at me.

I groaned, throwing my head back onto the grassy field.
