Spring
Naruto opened his eyes and groaned. He looked up and saw that his hands were chained together with another chain suspending him from the ceiling in a tiny cell. his feet were chained together too but not enough that he couldn't run. Outside his cell he could see catwalks running along the wall his cell was set into and the one opposite him. Some of the cells had corpses and skeletons in them but some were empty like the one directly across from him. The catwalks dropped away to dozens of levels below him, likely stretching underground while still more levels extended above them. the walkways were connected to each other with stairs, cross-paths, and elevators.
Naruto tried to pull his hands apart and the device instantly began to shock him. After a few more tried, he had how much chakra it would take to activate the device figured out and grinned then closed his eyes as a pair of snow ninja threw Koyuki into the cell across from him.
"Serves you right," Koyuki stated looking across at him.
"Yeah?" Naruto grinned. "You too."
"I know," Koyuki said almost sounding apologetic.
"What did you mean there's no spring?" Naruto questioned.
Koyuki stared at him for a moment then told Naruto of her father telling her what spring was, and promising that she would see it if she believed in herself. In all honesty, it was a young girl's fantasy. But Naruto could tell there was a deeper meaning, or at least he hoped there was. All winter all the time was boring.
"But he was wrong," Koyuki spat. "There is no spring here. He died, I fled from the land of snow, and I stopped believing. I was always running, always lying to people, though mostly I was just lying to myself. My life has been one big charade. Becoming an actress, was about the only thing I was cut out for in this world."
After a moment Naruto grinned and prepared himself for pain.
"Watch," Naruto smirked. "I'm getting out of here."
"You can't," Koyuki stated. "There's no way."
"Don't underestimate me," Naruto grinned forming hand seals and gathering chakra even while the device sent electricity through his body.
"You're going to get yourself killed!" Koyuki snapped. "Just stop!"
"Ninja Art, Needle Senbon!" Naruto said shooting his hair upward and destroying his shackles and the chain holding him.
He fell to the ground painfully and pulled the hairs out of his hands then stood and grinned.
"I told you not to underestimate me," Naruto grinned before walking toward the gate. "Let's get you out of there shall we?"
Just as his hands closed around the bars, the electricity seal on the cell door sent electricity through him in much larger amounts than the device. After a moment, he flew backward and hit the wall, collapsing. Koyuki watched him for a moment then huffed and looked away.
After a moment, Naruto woke up to the sound of explosions and running feet but stayed motionless. A few minutes later, two snow ninja ran past and then returned when they saw him on the ground.
"Hey, when did he..." the ninja trailed off as he ripped the seal tag off the door then unlocked it and both ran inside.
Just as they arrived, Naruto stood and knocked them both out then took the keys and grinned at Koyuki, spinning them on his finger. Koyuki couldn't help but smirk and Naruto quickly freed her then picked her up and sprinted along the catwalks to an elevator heading up to the top level with it. As he stepped out, a snow ninja arrived in front of him using a chord from its wrist launcher as a grapple while two more arrived behind him. Naruto set Koyuki down and sprinted forward attacking the ninja before them as fast as he could.
"Wait wait Naruto!" the ninja shouted raising his hands after Naruto kicked him backward.
The ninja shed its uniform and revealed Kakashi, still wearing his own uniform. The ninja behind them did the same and revealed Sakura and Hinata.
"Oh, it's you," Naruto grinned. "You've gotten slow Kakashi."
Kakashi rolled his eyes and tossed Naruto his pouch of kunai while Hinata walked over with his swords. He rested his hand on his Garian Sword and it shot up his sleeve, putting itself back in its place before Naruto took his Double-Edged Sword. Then, Kakashi handed Koyuki the Hex Crystal and led them through a maze of hallways.
"Where are Lee and Tenten?" Naruto questioned while they ran.
"They're going to meet us just up ahead," Kakashi stated. "Come on, we need to hurry."
They passed through a door, arriving in the throne room at the same time as Lee and Tenten. Just then, lights turned on to Naruto's left illuminating Doto, sitting in his throne on a raised platform. He stood, laughing and grinned evilly at Naruto.
"Well done, Koyuki," Doto commended.
Everyone turned to her and Koyuki sprinted up the stairs to Doto's side, handing him the Hex Crystal as Nadare, Fubuki, and Mizore appeared at the foot of the stairs.
"It can't be," Kakashi muttered.
"This shouldn't be a surprise to any of you," Koyuki scoffed. "I mean really, I'm an actress aren't I?"
"There you have it," Doto sneered. "Another brilliant performance by the great Yukie Fujikaze."
"Yes," Koyuki whispered drawing Sandayu's honor blade from her sleeve. "It was all an act."
She darted forward, driving the blade into Doto's chest her momentum forcing both to the edge of the platform.
"Didn't I tell you?" Koyuki questioned. "I'm an actress!"
"You wretched..." Doto grabbed her by the throat, squeezing instantly.
"I always knew...Naruto...that if I ever returned to this place, I was going to die here," Koyuki stated. "At least...I can..."
"Don't!" Naruto shouted as Koyuki began to struggle to step forward.
"Naruto, it's only thanks to you that...I could stop running away...here at...the end," Koyuki stated.
"Don't throw your life away!" Naruto shouted as Koyuki and Doto began to fall.
"I'm sorry father," Koyuki muttered. "Sandayu."
Then, they fell. Within seconds, they crashed down, hard enough to kill.
"Koyuki!" Lee shouted sprinting forward, the snow ninja making no move to stop him.
Just as he arrived, Doto smashed his fist into Lee's face sending him flying back to the others before laughing.
"You really thought you could kill me did you?" Doto scoffed. "With this little toy?"
He undid the straps holding his robe closed and let it fall, revealing his own chakra armor. His was black with blue highlights, the Yin-yang symbol being dead center of his chest, and the armor itself much more solid a metal than the other three's. He had a chest plate, two gauntlets, wings, armored pants, boots, and a purple short-sleeved shirt under it. He wore a green cloth around his waist with a blue sash as a belt.
"That's right," Doto sneered. "It's chakra armor, our latest prototype."
Koyuki suddenly stirred, coughing and rolling onto her side just before Doto picked her up.
"Put her down!" Lee shouted sprinting forward only to be smashed away again.
"You can't beat me," Doto stated. "One of you has had every ounce of his chakra sealed away, the rest of you are too slow, and Kakashi won't be able to touch me until he goes through these three, leaving him weakened for me. Let's go Koyuki, beyond the rainbow."
Just then, the ceiling over them exploded and a wire attached to Doto's armor pulled him up through the hole before releasing him and allowing him to fly away. Naruto leap into the air, teleporting to Koyuki and grabbing Doto around the neck while the rest of the ninja all escaped the collapsing room.
"I grow tired of you boy!" Doto growled prying Naruto off of himself then kicking him straight downward. Naruto crashed down in the trees painfully and began to push himself up, limbs feeling like lead. Just then, the director, his assistant, and the camera man all pulled up on a cart and the director smiled.
"Hop on," the director ordered.
Naruto smiled and climbed on and the cart sped off after Doto.
A few miles away, Fubuki and Mizore were wreaking havoc on the Lee and the others. Tenten, using ranged weapons, was useless in the fight for anything besides blocking Fubuki's kunai. Lee was keeping a freshly healed Mizore busy while Sakura set up a trap for Fubuki and Hinata tried to get to Naruto, as he was incapable of actually fighting himself. After several seconds, she shouted to Lee where she needed Fubuki and began throwing kunai at Mizore. when they hit his chakra barrier, the bags on the end released a small cloud each of tiny paper bombs. Then, Sakura threw a full size one. The paper bombs exploded and launched Mizore away from Lee allowing Lee to leap into the air as Fubuki passed and kick her into the waiting wires that Sakura had set up. Within seconds, Fubuki broke free using her wings.
"It'll take more than that to beat me," Fubuki sneered just as Lee appeared behind her.
"You are right," Lee agreed wrapping his bandages around her and spinning them both. "Primary Lotus!"
Fubuki screamed in rage as they fell and after a moment, Lee let go and leapt away as Fubuki continued downward. She extended her wings and began to right herself and shoot along the ground only to slam her back into Mizore's stomach. The moment their armor's power generators touched, they exploded, sending both flying.
"Way to go Lee!" Tenten cheered.
"Oh, um, thank you," Lee beamed.
"That was a complete fluke wasn't it?" Sakura grinned.
"Yes, yes it was," Lee nodded. "Come on. We should give Hinata and Naruto some back up."
Naruto flipped around onto the camera cart's side and held on. They had entered the ring formed by the rainbow glaciers and a wart steam had enveloped the area.
"Koyuki!" Naruto shouted as the cart sped toward her and Doto.
"Naruto!" Koyuki shouted happily.
"You again?" Doto questioned. "I've had enough of this. Ice Style, Black Dragon Blizzard!"
He made a fist and thrust it forward an a massive black dragon shot out, eyes and inside of his mouth glowing red. The dragon shot forward and crashed into the ground in front of Naruto, exploding and sending Naruto flying skyward. He fell straight down and crashed down hard enough to crack the several feet thick ice covering the lake beside where the explosion had been.
"What's the matter?" Naruto spat standing. "I hardly...felt a...thing there."
"Naruto, that's enough!" Koyuki shouted. "If you don't stop he's going to kill you!"
"Trust me," Naruto growled. "If you'd...have a little...faith...I won't...lose."
"How the...He should be dead!" Doto growled. "Is it possible that the chakra is leaking out somehow?"
Doto suddenly clenched his fists and sprinted toward Naruto.
"Die!" Doto shouted smashing his fist into Naruto and smashing the ice below him, sending him under water.
Naruto sank like a stone, unconscious. As he sank, Hinata appeared behind Doto, swinging her Sword of the Thunder God at Doto. He spun around swinging his fist but just as it connected with her stomach, her sword smashed through his barrier and the Yin-Yang symbol cracked. Then, she flew away, crashing into a massive chunk of ice. Just as she did, Naruto's eyes flew open.
"Come on you bastard!" Naruto shouted at the Nine-tails. "Where the fuck are you when I need you? Grow some balls you coward!"
Suddenly, the Nine-tails' chakra flooded his body and into the device, destroying the seal and returning his chakra before the device's face exploded and Naruto ripped it off.
Doto turned back to the water as it turned blood red. Then, it rose upward before finally exploding, spraying Narutos into the air where they all formed Rasengans and began raining down toward Doto. While they did, the real Naruto teleported to Koyuki, covering her mouth to keep her from giving away his position.
"Alright come on then!" Doto shouted. "Twin dragon Blizzard!"
He created two black dragons that swot into the air, destroying the Narutos by the dozen before spinning together so fast that they appeared as a massive black tornado. Then, they faded as Naruto formed a Rasengan and a clone to hold it with him. Doto turned toward them as they dashed forward.
"Naruto!" Koyuki shouted. "I believe in you! You are by far, the strongest ninja, I've ever known!"
"Well shit," Naruto grinned. "I could have told you that!"
As he neared Doto, the glaciers all lit up and Naruto's rainbow turned multi-colored just as Sakura and the others arrived.
"Look, Rainbow Chakra!" Sakura said. "It's just like the movie."
As Naruto reached Doto, he punched one of the two which disappeared instantly in a cloud of smoke that was instantly blown away.
"Rasengan!" Naruto shouted slamming the jutsu into Doto's chest.
The Rasengan stayed intact just long enough for the power generator of Doto's armor to shatter before it exploded. Doto flew away, spiraling through the air until he crashed into one of the glaciers. Cracks spider webbed across the glacier before it shattered, falling on top of Doto's body. Naruto grinned and limped over to Hinata, falling onto his back and feeling for a pulse. Thankfully he found one. She wasn't very badly injured, just unconscious. Naruto let his hand fall and looked over toward Koyuki just as all of the ice and snow vanished in a wave spreading across the Land of Snow. Then, Naruto passed out.
Naruto watched as Koyuki rushed away, only to be swarmed by children asking for autographs. She began signing and after a moment, Lee began freaking out that he didn't get one.
After a moment, Tenten grinned and said, "Relax, I got you one. And she gave Naruto one too."
"Huh?" Lee and Naruto both said as Tenten handed them both an envelope, Lee's plain white with his name on it and Naruto's decorated with a rainbow and stars.
They both opened theirs and Naruto blushed while Lee cheered. His was a picture of Koyuki smiling. Naruto's, on the other hand, was on him, unconscious in a hospital bed after beating Doto with bandages around his arms, torso, head, a bandage on his right cheek for whatever reason, and both legs in casts. he had only been bandaged up for a couple of days but the part about the picture that really made him blush, was that in it, Koyuki was giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh man," Naruto whined. "Couldn't she have at least used a better picture or something?"
Just then, Koyuki turned and smiled at him, as if knowing what they had been talking about. Then, she turned and finished her autographs before leaving.
"Time to go home," Kakashi announced. "We should be back within a couple of days if we leave now."
They all nodded and began to leave and Naruto put the picture in his pocket before his mind returned to his impending trip. Now that the mission was over, they would be leaving, and that was final. After a few minutes, they reached the ship and set sail for home. The last Naruto would see of it for a very long time.
