A/N: So I was "meh" about the last chapter, and this little idea popped into my head. I've never truly written a Kaldur/Verena scene, have I? :) It's a bit rushed towards the end, but... I like it. *shrug* Kaldur's a hard character to write for me. :|

Btw, and to the Guest that called themselves "At least try" and said they were kinda disappointed, I'm sorry you were, but it's been a while since I've written Verena, so I'm a bit rusty. But please note that I always try my best, and try to give you guys what I can fully at that time. I'm glad that you think I can write better, but as of now, the Lovebirds series is a bit of a challenge for me and I hope that you still continue to read what I write, but if you don't (and don't even see this message), then that's fine as well. There are plenty of other better fics for you to read out there.

MOUNT JUSTICE

I took the cup of warm milk and cradled it as I sat on the couch. I was surrounded by darkness, except for the light that shone from the television, reflecting off the plasma screen to give me some company.

I sipped the liquid quietly, basking in the silence – save for the sounds on the screen, of course.

Insomnia sucked sometimes.

Normally, I slept quite well for a girl who had probably the worst sleeping schedule of anyone her age. I usually slept when I could, as I was often on missions or patrols around the city.

Footsteps snapped me out of my quiet musing, and I turned my head.

"You could not sleep either, I take it?" Kaldur inquired gently. He walked over to where I was, taking purchase next to me.

I shook my head. After Roy and Kyle had left the Wayne Manor, Wally, Dick, and I headed to the Cave. We had received a short mission up in Canada about an hour after hanging around. After the mission, M'gann asked about staying the night, and Wally declared a sleepover.

Everyone had gone off to bed about an hour ago, but I spent the last hour tossing and turning.

"It's not like anything's bothering me," I admitted, shrugging. "It's just one of those nights where you just can't seem to fall asleep. Why can't you?"

"I've been feeling a little bit homesick as of late," Kaldur admitted to me. "Of course, I feel my place is here on land, but sometimes–"

"You find yourself longing for your old home," I finished for him. "Believe me, I understand." Sometimes I thought about what I would be like if the base hadn't been attacked and I stayed on Blackhawk Island instead of retreating to Gotham City.

"You do?" Kaldur inquired.

I nodded my head gently. "Yeah," I replied. "Before I became Black Falcon, I was raised on a base on an island. I was the only kid there, but I didn't mind at all. I had fun with the adults around me, and they're actually the ones who taught me how to shoot and how to fly a plane."

"I've always thought you lived in Gotham."

I turned to Kaldur and smiled. "Nah," I shook my head. "Sure, Gotham's my home, now, but sometimes, you miss the people you grew up with, right?"

Kaldur nodded. "My best friend, Garth, and Tula." The way his tone dropped affectionately at the names showed me he truly cared and missed his friends under the sea. Especially the last name. The way he said Tula was like… was like he was in love.

"Tell me about them," I said, pulling my legs up to my chest. I tilted my head, turning to look at him better.

And so, I listened to Kaldur's tales of Atlantis: how he was raised, how he met Garth and Tula, and how he left to become Aqualad, while the night dragged on to the morning dusk.

Before I knew it, my eyes were drooping as he was finishing the story of his return to Atlantis a couple months ago. I leaned felt Kaldur gently place me down on the couch, making sure I was comfortable.

"Sleep well, Black Falcon," he bade, before I gave myself in to sleep.

A/N: *sigh* So how was my first Kaldur/Verena attempt? (Or did I attempt it earlier, but I just don't remember? This series has been going on for quite a while.)
