A/N: Finals have started! I just got out of my final, and I have about an hour and a half before my second final starts. (Word of advice, kids, if you can avoid finals on the same day. I, unfortunately, couldn't this quarter, or the next, so I have two finals next quarter as well... _)
It's been a very long time since I updated, I know, but I've honestly lost the spark I feel for Dick and Verena these days. Especially since, well, new readers are starting to find my stories, and... well, let's just say some make me rethink what I was writing for this series and I've thought about taking it down, but I decided not to. I think... Summer of 2015, I'm going to try to rewrite the Lovebirds series, and make it better, with more details than before. Thoughts?
The plot will still be the same, but I feel like I've improved much more in my writing since then. It'll still be similar, but... yeah. It's just so I can reignite that spark, y'know? And maybe if I make the first series more smoothly, the sequel will come out better. _ (Which I fail in that category. Hah.)
Without further ado, here is the (long-awaited?) chapter!
CENTRAL CITY
NOVEMBER 4, 2010
17:42 CDT
"ARGH!" an angry, fed-up roar echoed down the hallway I walked. I cocked my head to the side silently, before stepping into the room the source of the voice originated from.
"I made cookies," I announced, but it fell to deaf ears as the redhead before me bit the back of his pen in frustration. Yes, that was how much Wally was frustrated. He didn't even react to my announcement of sweets.
I placed the plate in the center of the little circle we formed with our textbooks and notebooks. Taking my spot in-between Wally and Dick, I picked up my AP Chemistry textbook.
Wordlessly, without looking up from his book, Wally blindly reached for a cookie before throwing the entire thing into his mouth.
"Draw the anion for CIF2-," Dick advised to the boy patiently.
I looked down at the number, seeing it was the fifth one in the textbook. One I had already done before I left to make cookies. Wally was also in AP Chemistry, and easily enough, his school also had the same textbooks we did, so studying together was easier.
"I got it," Wally announced. "And the charge overall is one-minus."
"Yup," my boyfriend nodded his approval. "Now how many electron groups are there in it?"
"Uh…" the speedster trailed off, counting quietly, "… five?"
"Bonding groups?"
"… Two?"
"Lone pairs?"
"… Three!"
"So what's the geometry of the electrons?"
"Uh…" Wally trailed off, looking down at his textbook at his chart. "Trigonal bypyramidal… I mean, I guess I see it." I glanced over at his slightly… okay, very messy paper. I mean, I guess I could see it there, too.
Wordlessly, I held up my own paper to show Wally my work. His mouth opened and closed before going, "Oh, yeah, I see it now."
"And look at the Lewis structure of what you drew," I advised. "What does it look like?"
"A straight line."
"What's that in molecular geometry terms?"
"Linear."
"Yup!" I grinned at the redhead. "And the hybridization of the central atom?"
"Gimme a sec," Wally mumbled, looking at the structure before taking a glance at his periodic table. "sp3d?"
"Yeah!" Dick exclaimed. "And what's the bond angle?"
"180!"
There was a resounding slap as Wally, Dick, and I simultaneously shared high fives.
Wally's face then scrunched up in distaste. "It still took a long time to solve, though. Ren was able to make cookies during the time it took me to solve five problems…"
"Just memorize the chart," I advised. "It takes a while, yeah, but you'll get used to it. Now, XeF3+, the next one, is a wee bit tricky, because you have three bond angles this time."
"Crap," Wally cursed, looking down at the problem. Then he glanced up at us and said, "Good thing I have free tutoring, right?"
Dick and I smiled in response before we proceeded to help him.
A/N: I never took AP Chemistry, so I don't know what they necessarily learn in that class, but this is what I've been learning these past couple of days. (One chapter is one day in my class. :P) Drop a review! And... well... I don't know when I'll "see" you guys again. T^T I'm always looking for suggestions, so please bombard me with them! With topics, not just requests of characters! xD
