A/N: Happy black friday! If you care about that kind of thing. I don't. Anyway, here's chapter 9.

Cody's Pokémon Adventure

Chapter 9

When Cody woke up the next day he found the sun had already risen. After rubbing the sleep from his eyes he checked the time on a nearby clock. It was already 10 a.m. Seeing the time, Cody immediately got to his feet. He had meant to get up much earlier so they could leave.

Quickly he got dressed and went looking for Sky or Dave. It didn't take him long to find them. They were both sitting at a table outside the Pokémon Center. Both teens looked tired and Dave was drinking a hot cup of coffee. "What are you guys doing?" Cody asked as he walked over to them. "Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"

Dave and Sky looked at Cody surprised. "We just thought you needed a little more sleep," Sky answered. "We didn't get to bed until early this morning so sleeping in is normal."

Dave nodded. "And after what happened last night…"

"But we have to go!" Cody insisted. "We need to get through Mt. Moon as quickly as possible so we can get to Cerulean City!"

"Cody, I know you want to find Harold, but we can't just rush in." Sky explained. "We were all exhausted after last night so we needed a break. We can still go today, but we have to be careful. Last night proved that."

"Yeah, rushing won't do us any good." Dave stated.

"Well taking our time won't do Harold any good!" Cody exclaimed angrily. "I can't believe you guys!" He stormed off.

Sky bit her lip as she watched him go. "Poor Cody…"

Dave just sighed. "Sky, why are we helping this guy? After last night I think it might be time to split ways with him. I can tell just from how he's acting that he won't be any help to us."

The dark haired girl frowned. "Dave how can you say that? Cody's just upset. He'll calm down and then we'll go through the mountain."

"But why are we helping him? I didn't think you were the type to collect traveling companions. You've always been focused on your goal of collecting eight badges and winning the Pokémon league. You don't care about making friends." Dave said bluntly.

Sky had the good sense to look offended. "Well thanks a lot Dave! I didn't realize I came across as so cold and heartless!"

"No wait!" realizing the full effect of his words Dave tried to explain. "I didn't mean to offend you Sky. I actually like that about you! Most of the time…" he muttered this last time rather quietly. "I just don't understand why you're acting differently. Will you forgive me?"

"Sure Dave, I forgive you." Sky said irritably. In truth, she did not feel much like forgiving him but didn't want to argue either. "As for why we're helping him, I thought that was obvious. We teamed up with both Cody and Harold yesterday so we could get through the mountain quicker."

"And look how that turned out." The stingy boy interrupted.

-you can't possibly blame either Cody or Harold for that." Sky said. "It wasn't anyone's fault. We agreed to go through with both of them, what kind of trainer would I be if I just left Cody to fend for himself after what happened to his friend? I don't want to do that."

Dave pouted. He could find no obvious flaw in her logic. He knew if he disagreed she'd call him a coward and think less of him and the last thing Dave wanted was for Sky not to like him. Even so, what he thought was the real reason kept coming back up in his mind. Unable to get it out of his head he finally put it to words.

"You like him don't you?"

"What?"

"Cody." Dave flushed either in anger or embarrassment. "You like him. That's why we're doing this isn't it?"

Sky's immediate facial expression was more honest, but she quickly shook her head and cleared it. "What the…? No Dave, I don't like Cody. We're just friends. I'm getting a little sick of you getting jealous all the time."

"I'm not jealous!" Dave recoiled. "I'm just as good a guy as Cody. I don't know why you like him."

"I don't," Sky said with a sense of finality that made her meaning very clear. "Drop it Dave. I just want to be a good friend, that's all. So can we please stop fighting and get back to our journey?"

The clean-freak shifted in his seat uncomfortably for a moment before answering. "Okay, but once we get to Cerulean City do you promise we'll go our separate ways from Cody?"

"I'd like to check on Harold too to make sure he's okay," Sky admitted. "But after that I'm sure he'll want to take his own path and I promise I won't try to persuade him to come with us. Is that okay?"

"That's good enough." Dave stood up and Sky did likewise. The two then hugged before Sky broke the embrace.

"Now let's go find Cody."

Sky went to look for Cody while Dave, believing finding Cody was a one person job, went to make sure their bags were packed. Sky didn't have to look for long before Cody found her. She was walking through the Pokémon Center when he tapped her on the shoulder. When she turned around she saw he was right behind her carrying a plate with each hand.

He held one of the plates out to her. On top was a gooey warm cinnamon bun. "Cinnamon bun?"

Sky took the plate from him slowly. "…thanks?"

"Listen Sky, I'm sorry about earlier." Cody apologized. "I shouldn't have freaked like that. It's just after what happened to Harold yesterday I guess I was just…"

"…worried?" Sky gave him an understanding smile. Cody nodded. "It's okay Cody. I understand and I promise we'll make it through the mountain and get to Cerulean City."

"Thanks."

The smells of the cinnamon bun Sky was holding drew her attention. "So what's with the cinnamon bun? Some kind of peace offering?"

Cody shrugged. "Cinnamon buns make the best peace offerings. Take a bite."

Sky indulged him. It tasted as good as it looked and the teenage girl could tell it was freshly made. When she looked over at Cody she saw he was eating his own cinnamon bun; albeit with much more enthusiasm.

A minute later he had finished. "Mhmm…that was good."

"It's a little sweet." Sky said.

"I like sweet things," Cody smiled. "Candy, and chocolate and…"

"Cinnamon buns?" Sky finished. Her friend nodded. "I'll make a mental note of it. Why don't we go get ready?"

"That sounds like a plan."

One hour later the three teens left the Pokémon Center behind them. They were all packed and had gotten back their Pokémon-all healed. Because it was the middle of the day, they weren't the only trainers heading into the mountain. On the bright side the entrance to the cave didn't look nearly as spooky.

The three entered with no difficulty and started to make their way through the cave. Because of what happened the night before, all of them were on edge. They ran into a few Geodudes and Zubats early on, but it was nothing they couldn't handle. They also encountered a few trainers. Most of them were spread throughout the cave waiting for trainers to come along. Their eyes must've gotten used to the dark of the cave as they seemed to spot the three teens before they were ever seen.

Sky defeated a young girl with ease and Cody battled a middle aged guy who seemed to really like rock Pokémon. They had been in the cave for a few hours now and a certain question had been lingering in Cody's mind. Finally he decided to just ask. "Do you think we'll run into any of those Team Rocket guys?"

"I don't know," Sky answered after a minute. She didn't really like this line of thought. "Those two may have been just passing through. There may not be any more."

"Or they're may be more," Dave spoke up. "We don't know. For all we know there might be a whole group of them staking this place out."

"Exactly, we don't know." Sky stopped walking to turn back to look at the two boys. "So let's not worry about it. It won't do anyone any good."

Cody frowned. "It's not hurting anyone to talk about it…" he muttered quietly to himself. Kicking a small rock on the ground he followed behind the others contemplating his feelings.

They kept walking in silence. Every tunnel seemed identical to the last and Cody found himself relieved that Sky was leading the way. This isn't like Viridian Forest, he thought to himself. I'd have gotten us lost a long time ago.

Just as they were about to turn a corner Sky held out her arm to stop both boys. "Stop!" she whispered loudly. She had seen what was up ahead and then pulled back for some reason. Cody and Dave looked at her questionably as she peeked her head around to confirm what she'd seen.

"What is it?" Dave asked.

"Is it Team Rocket?" Cody clenched his fists.

"No, it's nothing like that." Sky shook her head. "This is a good thing." Without explaining herself she pulled out a pokeball and turned the corner in a leap. "Go Eevee!"

Cody and Dave followed after her. When they turned the corner they saw what she had spotted earlier. A lone Clefairy was hiding in an alcove and Sky's Eevee was trapping it. It looked slightly spooked at being caught unaware.

"Wow." Cody's anger was forgotten at the sight of the rare Pokémon and replaced by sheer wonder. "Is that a real Clefairy?" He pulled out his Pokedex and opened it. "Clefairy: the fairy Pokémon. Clefairy are adored for their cute looks and playfulness. They are thought to be rare, as they do not appear often."

"That's so cool Sky!" Dave said excitedly. "You got to capture it!"

"That's the plan," the dark haired girl smirked. "Eevee use quick attack!" The small brown Pokémon leapt forward so quickly it almost appeared to have vanished. The next moment it slammed into the pink Pokémon and knocked it back into the rock wall.

Clefairy stood up gingerly. It did not appear used to fighting. Even so, it rushed forward and used double-slap. It slapped Eevee on the head multiple times, though it did not appear to do all that much damage.

"Now use bite!" Eevee clamped down onto Clefairy's pink flesh and bit down hard. The normal type Pokémon screamed and frantically attempted to knock Eevee off. It quickly tired out and Sky knew it was time. "That's enough Eevee!" Her Pokémon quickly let go. "Pokeball go!" She tossed out an empty pokeball and it sucked Clefairy in. After only minimal resistance, it gave in and the pokeball clicked.

Sky picked up the pokeball and admired it. "Great job Sky!" Dave said coming up from behind. "You were great. That Clefairy didn't know what hit it!"

"Yes, excellent job Sky. Now…hand it over."

The three teens froze where they were standing. Slowly they turned their heads to the side to see a man coming out of the shadows. He was wearing a rather familiar outfit identifying him as a member of Team Rocket. He held out a gloved hand and motioned for the pokeball. "The Clefairy, girl. Give it here."

Sky pulled the pokeball closer to her body. Dave took a step back. Cody saw red.

"I don't think so!" the dark haired girl told him. "This is my Clefairy. I caught it fair and square. Go crawl back into whatever hole you came out of."

The man grit his teeth. "That's no way to speak to your betters girl. Can't you tell I'm from Team Rocket?" He snapped his whip. It missed Sky, but only by inches causing the girl to recoil in fear. "Boss told me to find a Clefairy. Been searching this whole damn cave for hours and I couldn't find a single one! Now that I know you have one I'm not going to let you walk out with it!"

"You better back off creep!" Cody stepped forward clenching a pokeball in his right hand. "I'm not afraid of you. I learned last night that Team Rocket is synonymous with coward and I'd love to take you on. So bring it!"

Hearing Cody's words gave Sky some confidence. "I'm not afraid either! Cowards like you are only good at cheating. Let's do this." Dave stepped forward in support of Sky, but said nothing.

"The nerve of you brats!" The man scowled. "I'll teach you both a lesson! Go Zubat! Rattata!"

Cody and Sky both immediately released their own Pokémon. "Go Nidorino!"

"Go Nidorina!"

Both poison Pokémon stood side by side looking threatening. Sky and Cody nodded to each other. The Team Rocket member looked slightly worried, but then shook his head. "No matter! This way I can give the boss that Clefairy and all your Pokémon!"

"I don't think so!" Cody said bravely. "Nidorino use poison sting!"

"Nidorina use bite!" Sky said at the same time.

Both Pokémon attacked at the same time knocking their opponents flat on the ground. The man from Team Rocket wasn't much of a trainer and the battle was over before it had ever really begun. He looked on angrily at the teens as he recalled both Pokémon.

"This isn't over!" he said. "I've still got the Pokémon I stole from that kid." Then he pulled out a belt from his backpack with pokeballs hanging off it.

But Cody was too quick for him. "Not gonna happen! Go Pikachu!" Tossing out a pokeball his electric Pokémon appeared. "Pikachu hit him with a thundershock!" He pointed to the man.

"Pika-chu!"

A bolt of electricity hit the man before he could grab one of the pokeballs. He squealed in pain and surprise. The shock only lasted a few seconds and once it was over Cody was ready. "Grab that belt!" he told Nidorino.

His purple Pokémon obeyed and rushed forward. It took the belt in its mouth and ran back to its master. "Good job Nidorino," Cody took the belt from the Pokémon.

"Curse you!" The Team Rocket member screamed. "You brats won't get away with this! This whole mountain is crawling with Team Rocket and when my comrades beat you they will show no mercy!"

And with that the man ran off back to whatever hole he had crawled out of. Sky and Cody sighed in relief. The female Pokémon trainer recalled her Nidorina before turning to her friends. "Are you okay Cody? I've never seen you get mad like that before."

"Yeah…I'm okay." Cody sighed as his anger lifted. "I guess I was just mad about what happened to Harold. I even attacked him. Did I go too far?"

"No way," Dave shook his head. "You should've zapped that guy again!"

"I think you did the right thing," Sky said. "You even managed to save someone else's Pokémon."

The brunette gazed down at the pokeballs he was holding. They belonged to a stranger. Some other Pokémon trainer trying to get through the mountain who must've been beaten by the Team Rocket member. "I don't know who they belong to. How am I going to return them?"

"We could always give them to the police when we get to Cerulean City," Sky suggested. "I'm not sure what else we could do unless we met the trainer in the tunnels."

"Like that'll happen." Dave rolled his eyes.

They continued making their way through the mountain. Hours passed and their journey did not go uninterrupted. Their path crossed with wild Pokémon, other Pokémon trainers looking for a battle, and more Team Rocket crooks. They didn't catch any new Pokémon, but the Pokémon they already had got quite a lot of experience.

"On the bright side, this is good training for the Cerulean Gym." Cody said optimistically after another long battle.

Dave scoffed. "Speak for yourself. My Poliwag fainted two fights ago. Now I'm just dead weight."

"Don't feel bad Dave." Sky placed her hand on his shoulder. "You were a lot of help taking out all those Geodudes."

"Okay!" Dave answered with a giddy smile on his face.

"Sky how far is it to the exit?" Cody asked while munching on an energy bar. "It must be night outside by now. I'm getting pretty tired."

"Well I'm not one-hundred percent sure." She answered. "I think we're getting close, but we took that wrong turn a while back and that cost us almost an hour. Hmm…" she squinted trying to get a better look at the map. "I can't tell. It's so dark I can't read the map correctly. All I can tell is we should turn left at the next fork in the tunnel."

"Why?" Dave asked. "What's on the right?" They had reached the fork and the germaphobe walked over to the right path and stuck his head in to get a better look.

"Dave no!" Sky grabbed the back of the boy's shirt and pulled him back. But it was too late. A swarm of Zubat erupted out of the right path. They flew around haphazardly before spotting the three travelers.

"Ahhh!" All three of them screamed as the Zubat targeted them. This was not something they could battle. They had no choice but to run. Immediately they sprinted off down the left path with the Zubat right behind them.

"Oww! They're biting me!" Dave ducked down as Zubat swooped down toward his head.

"It's leech life!" Cody called out as he ran.

"Don't stop running!" Sky told the boys. They kept running for a few minutes but were starting to get tired.

"I can't keep this up!" Dave said panting.

"I don't think it matters." Cody pointed up ahead. "Dead end!"

Hearing this Sky scanned the path up around them. Suddenly she came to a complete stop. "Stop!" She yelled out. Both boys quickly stopped but wanted to know why. The Zubat had caught up to them and were attacking. "This way!" She directed them left to the edge of the path. "We have to jump!"

"That's crazy!" Cody said. "It's too dark to see the bottom!"

"Just jump!" Sky leapt down and took Cody with her. Dave jumped right after. All three teens screamed on the way down but did not fall far. After only a few seconds they landed in a small pool of water below.

Soon three heads emerged spitting water. "Please don't make me do that again." Dave begged.

Cody's eyes scanned the ceiling frantically. "They didn't follow us did they?"

"I think we're safe." Sky sighed. "Let's get out of here."

They swam to the edge of the pool and pulled themselves out. All three were soaked along with their things, but none of them had been injured. "Where are we?" Dave asked.

Sky pulled the map back out, but it was soaking wet. She tried to read it anyway but to no avail. Feeling extremely frustrated she crushed it into a ball and threw it away. "Screw it! I have no idea where we are. We'll just have to keep moving forward. There's only one path here anyway."

Once again they began to walk. Cody had suggested stopping for the night to sleep, but Sky seemed to think they'd be better off if they kept moving. She didn't want to stop until they left the cave. Cody hoped the exit soon or he'd collapse. Finally he managed to convince her to take a break so they could rest. They all sat down beside the cave wall and soon fell asleep.

But it wasn't more than two hours before Sky got both boys up and they started moving again. On and on they walked. It had been a while since they'd seen any trainers on the path. They wondered if they were merely being led in circles. But just when they were at their wits end they entered into a large cavern.

"Is this…?"

"It is!" Sky said excitedly. "I can't check without the map, but I'm almost certain this is the last chamber before the exit. We're almost there."

"Wait…what's that sound?" Cody asked.

"Bwa ha ha! Fool!" They heard a ridiculously exaggerated laugh coming from the other side of the cavern. "Did you really think we would just let you escape? Don't you know you're dealing with a being of pure Evil?!"

Cody, Dave and Sky headed toward the voice.

A different voice, this one feminine, being to chortle and laugh. "Say it again!" she snorted. "Say evil again!" She had a rather thick accent.

"Be quiet minion!" This time it was the first voice speaking again. He sounded irritated. "For the last time, Evil is not a joke for your amusement! And don't interrupt me when I'm trying to intimidate this poor fool!"

"Aww come on already! I just want to leave eh!"

The three teens were now close enough to see the three people speaking. The first voice was a pudgy male with purple hair and pale skin. He was short and hunched over, almost to the point of appearing to be a hunchback. The second voice belonged to a rather chubby, some might say fat, teenage girl. She had curly blonde hair and a good deal of makeup on.

Both of them were dressed in Team Rocket outfits.

The third person, a teenage boy, was not. He had brown hair hidden by a beanie, and wore a green hoodie, white shirt underneath, blue jeans and hiking shoes. The other two were standing in front of him and appeared to be blocking his way. He looked rather worn down and tired.

"Never!" The purple haired boy said dramatically. "You're not going anywhere! As the leader of Team Rocket it is my-

"You're not the leader of Team Rocket Max." The blonde girl interrupted.

This seemed to greatly anger the boy. "Be quiet you talking animal! I may not be the leader yet, but I will be soon enough. And after I rule Team Rocket, I will rule the world!" He began an evil laugh.

"Stop right there!" Sky moved out into the open where the two Team Rocket members and their victim could see her. She approached them unafraid. "I'm not quite sure what's going on here, but you two are Team Rocket so you better stop whatever you're doing!"

Cody quickly followed right after her (with Dave not far behind) and stood on her right. "Yeah, let that guy go!"

"What's this?" The boy asked surprised. "More fools come to give us their Pokémon? How thoughtful."

"Nah!" The girl snorted. "They probably just wanted ta leave like this other guy here."

"I know that!"

"Who are you guys?" Dave asked. "You don't look or act like normal Team Rocket."

"That's right," the boy nodded. "We're no low level grunts. We're some of Team Rocket's top agents. We even have a theme song!"

"Oh are we going to do the theme song again?" The girl clapped her hands together excitedly. "Oh boy! That's more fun than wrestling a greasy pig on aunt Mabel's farm!"

"Just play the music already!"

"Fine, fine…" The blonde girl put down a small boom-box on the cave floor right next to a plush doll of a Meowth. She hit the play button and music came out. "To protect the world from devastation!" She posed.

"To unite all people within our nation!" The boy posed alongside her.

"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"

"To extend our reach to the stars above!"

"Sugar!"

"Max!"

"Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now, or prepare to EVIL!"

Suddenly the blond girl, now identified as Sugar, stopped the music and glared at Max. "Gosh darnit Max, the line is 'prepare to fight' not prepare to evil!" But despite her clear annoyance she couldn't help but giggle at the E word.

"It's my catchphrase woman!" Max shook his fist at her. "I'm not, not going to say it!" Just then he noticed the other boy, the one wearing the beanie, was trying to sneak past him to the exit. "Hey come back here! We're not finished!"

Sugar pulled out a pokeball. "I'll stop him. Go Ekans!" When she threw her pokeball down a purple snake came out hissing.

"Me too! Go Koffing!" Max threw out his own pokeball. His Pokémon was also purple, but looked like a lumpy round ball with a face floating in the air spewing gas.

Both Pokémon went after the boy and that was when Sky and Cody knew they had to do something. "Hey! Leave him alone!" Cody yelled at the two. "Battle us instead. Go Pikachu!"

Sky pulled out her own pokeball. "Go Eevee! Give these guys a taste of their own medicine!"

Spotting Cody and Sky's Pokémon, Max and Sugar stopped what they were doing. "You dare challenge us?" Max grinned evilly. "Prepare to be destroyed! Koffing attack!"

"You too Ekans!" Sugar ordered the snake. "Eat that rat!"

Sugar's Ekans loomed over Pikachu making the electric Pokémon nervous. Right next to them Sky's Eevee was going to face off against Max's Koffing. Right before the battle started Cody tossed his Pokedex over to Dave. "Hey Dave, catch!"

"Whoa!" Dave just barely grabbed the red device without dropping it. "What do you want me to do with this?"

"Scan those two Pokémon for me. I've never seen them before."

"Alright," Dave opened the Pokedex and held it up. "Ekans: the snake Pokémon. Ekans slither silently through the grass in search of its favorite food-Pidgey and Sparrow eggs." Then he moved it over to Max's Pokémon. "Koffing: the poison gas Pokémon. Because Koffing stores several kinds of toxic gases in its body, it is prone to exploding without warning."

Cody's listened to the Pokedex's description as he stood off against Sugar. "Ekans use bite!" She commanded. The snake Pokémon slithered forward and lunged at Pikachu.

"Dodge it Pikachu!" Cody called out. The electric Pokémon managed to move aside just in time. But then Ekans came back for another bite. "Quick attack!" Pikachu's speed increased dramatically and it was able to avoid getting bitten by the snake Pokémon. A second later it slammed into it knocking it back.

"What the…? Grrr!" Sugar clenched her fists in anger. "Ekans just wrap the darn thing!"

Before Pikachu could move Ekans had wrapped its long body around the electric Pokémon. It cried out in pain as Ekans began to squeeze it tightly. "Ha! You won't get away from that so easily."

"I don't need to." Cody smirked. "Pikachu use thundershock!"

"Oh shoot."

Pikachu hit Ekans with a powerful electric attack. The snake Pokémon's body was black and steaming once the attack had ended but it hadn't let go. "Keep hitting it until it lets you go!"

"No Ekans! Get out of there!" Sugar called out. Ekans let go of Pikachu and kept its distance. "Now use poison sting!"

The purple Pokémon's rattler rose up into the air before swinging down at Pikachu. It stung the electric Pokémon in its stomach. Pikachu was knocked down and looked hurt. "Don't give up Pikachu!" Cody called out. "Hit it with slam!"

Getting to its feet Pikachu broke into a run. Seeing this Sugar called out her Pokémon's next attack. "Use glare!" The snake Pokémon glared threateningly at Pikachu, but the electric Pokémon did not turn away. Instead it slammed right into Ekans and knocked it into a nearby rock.

X's appeared in Ekan's eyes as it hit the floor. It did not get back up. Cody smiled. "Looks like its mouse: one, snake: zero."

"My poor Ekans!" Sugar recalled her defeated Pokémon. Then she turned to the victor of the battle. "Why you little…!" She headed for Cody with a fight in her eyes, but stopped when she saw Pikachu guarding its trainer. It wasn't going to let her get through.

It was then she heard Max cry out. "Impossible! How could I lose?" His Koffing lie defeated on the ground. Sky's Eevee was standing on top of it. "You two must've cheated!"

Cody scoffed. "You're calling us cheaters?"

"You better get out of here." Sky said threateningly.

Max and Sugar looked nervously at each other before nodding. "This isn't the last you've seen of us!" Sugar called out as she and Max ran off. "We'll be back!"

"Evil will return!" Max called out before tripping on a rock and falling on his face. "Oww!" Eventually he got back up and ran after Sugar.

Cody, Dave and Sky sighed. "Well that was weird." Dave commented.

Cody walked over to the other boy who was still waiting by the exit to the cave. "Are you alright?"

"Not exactly." He took Cody's hand and got to his feet. "But thanks for helping me back there eh. I would've taken those hosers on myself but I'm ashamed to say my Pokémon have already been stolen by a different crook."

"Wait, someone stole your Pokémon?" Cody said surprised. He reached into his backpack and pulled out the belt full of Pokémon he had recovered earlier. "Are these yours?"

The boy's eyes lit up in recognition. "They are!" He took the belt and held it fondly. "I-I never thought I'd get them back." His eyes started to water. "Thank you! Thank you so much eh!"

He began to shake Cody's hand with much enthusiasm. "No problem, I was happy to help." Cody stated. "I'm Cody, by the way. These are my friends Sky and Dave."

"Hi."

"It's nice to meet you."

The boy stopped shaking Cody's hand. "I'm Ezekiel. It's nice to meet you all eh. Listen I want to reward you for returning my Pokémon."

"Oh you don't have to…"

"I insist," Ezekiel rummaged through his pack before pulling out what looked like two stone. They were both strange looking but slightly different. "I found these fossils a few hours ago. I think they're what Team Rocket was looking for. They didn't know I had them or they'd have taken them both from me. Anyway I want you to have one."

"Really? I don't know what to say."

"Here," Ezekiel shoved one of the two into Cody's hands. "This is the Helix fossil. The one I'm keeping is the Dome fossil. They're both fossils of long dead Pokémon, but I heard a rumor they can be revived somehow!"

"That doesn't seem very likely," Dave criticized Ezekiel's theory.

"Thanks anyway," Cody said taking the fossil and putting it in his backpack. "I'll keep it just in case."

Ezekiel nodded. "Now I don't know about you guys, but I want to get out of this cave!"

The other three agreed and they headed for the exit. They still had to walk for half an hour down one last tunnel, but once they spotted sunlight they all broke into a run. They emerged out of the cave to find it was morning and the sun was shining. The area around them was simple plains with little else besides grass. They all sighed in relief.

They had made it to Route 4.
