Chapter 20
Kiara's POV
I sprinted up the last stretch of stairs, collapsing from the effort at the top with a heavy thud. I gasped as I sharp pain shot up my side. "Uuuugh..."
"See anything?" Ginko called from down below me."
"Maybe..." I muttered, adjusting my paws to get a better look. The dull gray stone shimmered like a Magikarp's scales. If a Magikarp was pretty and rainbow. Is this the... "I think so!" I said. I walked to the edge and stared down at my friends. "Come on up!"
"You heard her, let's go!" Ginko said to Rook. Rook's eyes were shining.
It's finally over... we are going to make things normal again. I thought.
KRAK-THOOOM! I felt the ground bounce up and down about a foot and Rook collapsed on the ground, eyes wide with fear. I was on the verge of slipping completely from fear. A shadow swallowed the Rainbow Stoneship and I glanced at the steps wildly. My fear disappeared.
"DUSKNOIR!" I spat.
"Hello." Dusknoir said. "Nice to see you again." He charged up his fist with a purple haze.
"GINKO!" Rook screeched.
"Get behind me!" Ginko said. We both quickly gathered behind her and Ginko quickly took a swipe at Dusknoir. She struggled to hold his punch back. "C-can't" She panted. Dusknoir smirked. I had had enough.
"FLAMETHROWER!" I screamed, Engulfing Dusknoir's body from hips to neck in flames. "Stay back, Dusknoir!"
"His attacks are close-range." Ginko informed me. "You'll do better up there. Rook, you're useless against ghosts. Just stay there." Rook frowned.
"How cute. A plan." Dusknoir sneered. "Think that's enough to stop Master Dialga? Think again." I used Flamethower again, instead aiming at his face. "Oh... I was going to be easy on you." He charged up a Shadow Ball, and I dodged quickly, hit in the paw. I guess I was lucky, I could have been hit in the chest. I couldn't resist screaming in pain though.
"Kiara... are you alright?" Rook rushed to my side.
"You're mine!" Ginko lunged for Dusknoir, getting hit in the chest as falling to the ground weakly.
"Ginko!" Me and Rook yelled in union. "Lookout! I yelled, as Dusknoir grabbed Ginko by the ankles and started to drag her into a spawning portal behind him.
"YAAAAAAAARGH!" Rook charged and Jump-Tackled Dusknoir, freeing Ginko and resulting in them both falling into the portal, bringing Dusknoir with her.
"R-rook?" I stammered.
Rook's POV
I slid into the portal, crumpled on the dusty gray ground beneath the permanent nighttime star. Ugh... Where am I? Dusknoir picked me up by my neck, and I chocked on air.
"Hmm... what a sacrifice." Dusknoir scoffed. "Are you happy with yourself? Because I wouldn't." Dusknoir dropped me on the ground and held a glowing fist inches away from my neck. "Don't worry... I won't kill you yet. You get to see Dialga destroy the world.
I bared my teeth, but stopped when I noticed Dusknoir's hand was jerking and fading. "What- What did you do!?" He screeched. The faded, and everywhere around me stared to become distorted. Everything around me went black and I began falling down... down.. Everyting became washed in white.
"Hello? Hello?" I called out. "Anyone there?"
"You are... lost." a deep voice boomed. "You are dead to both worlds. One early, one late. Where do you belong?"
The Human world and this one.. I thought.
"What should I do with you?" A white-and-golden slender, tall beast with a ring around it's middle appeared before me, looking almost ghost-like. "The Rift is my dungeon, my domain." A large, dark crack appeared behind me. "You are assumed dead in your old world. You are also destroying the Vulpix's world. Jump through the crack if you wish to fix things."
I jumped and my body flashed rainbow colors. I was spiraling down, and I felt a burning sensation in my head and around my eyes.
Kiara's POV
I watched with despair as Ginko leapt into the fizzling portal after Rook. I ran up to her in an attempt to grab her leg and pull her out, but the portal closed suddenly and I was thrown back by a blast. I hit the ground hard, and I heard a sharp crack sound. Ugh...
...wait.
...
Legs are good... Back is fine... no cracked skull... what? What was that crack then?
Oh.
I rushed over to rook, who was lying on the ground, on top of the rainbow stoneship's center.
"Ohmygosh." I breathed in horror. Rook looked beat up, bruises and deep cuts here and there.
"I'm fine-" Rook coughed out.
"Sure..." I said, pulling out my Explorer Bag. I took out a leftover white gummi and a Oran berry. "Here." I said, offering it up to her.
"I don't want it." Rook said, glancing over the food. "I'm not going to eat it, w- you need it for the final battle."
I put on my best cross face. "I'm not going on without you." We've already lost Ginko.
"Fiiiineeee..." Rook said with a hint of tease. She took the food quickly and stood up.
"Okay.. let's go." I said, as we re-routed back to the Rainbow Stoneship, keeping my bag out just in case. I walked into the center and touched the middle where a small indent was. "I think we are supposed to put my relic here." I dug out my relic, sad I was going to lose it.
"Okay. Go on ahead." Rook said, sounding defeated. I guessed it was about the lack of Ginko. I placed my treasure in the gaping whole, and a wave of rainbow washed over the stone.
"Do you want me to fill you in?" I said in a monotone voice as Rook stepped on with me. She shook her head no.
"I think I already know." Rook said simply as she limped onto the Stoneship. I stepped forward in a motion to help her, but she glared at me in a declining manner. The Rainbow Stoneship lifted off and we started flying upwards to a distant mountain with a crooked, ancient-looking tower, seemingly held up by slowed-down time. It probably was.
We landed and got off. I looked up, the top of the tower barely seen. Ugh.. I thought. This is going to hurt.
"Okay.. we should go inside." Rook suggested. "We don't have a lot of time." I nodded in agreement and we stepped into the dark corridors. I stumbled into several walls and tripped over my own feet, Rook almost groggily following behind.
Unknown Timeskip
"This is getting, actually, boring." Rook said. "There's literally nothing here. What if we missed something?"
"Be patient!" I said. "We're going to arrive at the top of Temporal Spire soon." We fell to silence once again as we strolled along. Not long after we reached the 27th floor (more or less), Rook saw something and flinched hard.
"WHAT IS THAT?!" Rook screeched suddenly. I saw a lump. Rook walked forward and touched what looked like a Salamence, pulling her paw back quickly.
"Is he dead?" I asked, wide-eyed.
"I think so." Rook said, nodding. I squinted my eyes.
"Looks like a rabid." I said, stepping cautiously around the body.
"We haven't seen a lot of rabids yet.." Rook said. "This.. this is impossible!"
"Yeah.." I said. "Let's keep going. Don't want to caught, do we?" Rook nodded and we walked on, but not too far, as a Porygon2 came soaring out of nowhere and used Zap Cannon. I ducked out of instinct, but Rook got one to the face and was knocked back. I watched the rabid somewhat warily. "I didn't expect rabids to be here." I said, gritting my teeth and unleashing a flamethrower, enveloping the Porygon2 in flames.
Rook came flying out of nowhere and used Tackle, Porygon2 responding quickly to a Shadow Ball afterwards. However, Shadow Ball hit it's mark easily, and we moved on.
"That was... unexpected." Rook sighed.
"Yeah." I nodded. "I don't think this is going to be easy." We moved on towards the top of the spire. Beautiful, beautiful fresh air! I sighed, free from the musty tower. I noticed a alter with six spaces cut into it. Me and Rook stepped forward, up to the alter.
"One, two... there's only five!" Rook said. "Did Ginko miss the one in the volcano?"
"Are you crazy?" I said. "Would Ginko really go into a volcano? Besides, five times gears will keep the world stable." We carefully inserted the Time Gears, leaving the final hole, smack in the middle, untouched. Suddenly, the tower shook, knocking the gears out of their places and me and Rook sprawling on the floor. The sky above went from a pale gray to a dark purple, the clouds stained dark red.
I struggled to my feet, right in front of Dialga. I gasped. The air around us was under pressure, making it hard to breathe.
"YOU!" Dialga boomed. "YOU SEEK THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR WORLD!"
"What? No!" Rook said. "We're here to save the world, you don't-"
"TIME STOPPING." Dilaga said. "TIME- GROOOOAH!"
"Dialga-" I said.
"SILENCE! GROOAH!" Dilaga said in a mighty, fierce voice. "ALL THOSE WHO THREATEN TEMPORAL TOWER.. WILL BE KILLED!"
"Ugh.. it's no use!" I whispered, turning to Rook. "He's just... not listening!"
"He's not fully consumed by the darkness, yet.." Rook said, her voice shaking. Her head whipped to face Dialga. "Look out!" She screeched, pushing me out of the way of a Roar Of Time. Dialga barely missed, groaning loudly. I pulled out a sleep seed from my bag and threw it at Dialga. Vines burst from the plant, making Dialga sleep on contact.
"Don't use flamethrower!" Rook said. I nodded and used Quick Attack. Rook followed up with a tackle and a Helping Hand. The Vines wilted and Dialga charged up a Roar Of Time, this time hitting both of us. I flung a Stun Seed, Rook tackling Dialga and I safely used Flamethrower. Dialga recovered suddenly and used Dragon Claw on me, knocking me to the floor. I hissed in pain, biting my tongue.
I ate a leftover Oran Berry in my bag and Rook threw another Sleep Seed, following up with a Trump Card. STAB kicked in. I tried a Flamethrower, careful not to singe the vines. Sadly, Dialga woke up and missed with Ancient Power.
"That was close," I said under my breath. I noticed Dialga was aiming mainly for me. Dialga spammed Roar Of Time once more and the tower's top became covered in mist. I couldn't see Rook, but I saw Dialga taking damage from time to time. This was my chance. I rushed forward, charging up my new Fire Blast.
