Chapter 95: Glad You Came
"Absurdity you speak." Sesshoumaru looked away.
"I don't think so. To tell you the truth... I think you know I am right."
Sesshoumaru's head snapped back to her, his eyes glared daggers. "You know nothing."
"While I may know nothing about you Sesshoumaru, I do know about what I am saying. Whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, makes no difference to me. You can deny it all you want and insult me. You won't change my mind."
"Sleep Miko."
"No thank you, I am still not tired. I was doing some thinking on my way out here, do you mind if I try something?" Kagome pushed herself to her knees.
"What?"
"Kati told me something the other day, about the necklace you are wearing. It has been nagging at the back of my brain, because it doesn't make sense. She told me during a phone call that touching your necklace should shock me... but *cough cough* the one time it touched me, I never got shocked." Kagome blushed ferociously remembering Sesshoumaru hovering over herself and her hands on his body. Clearing these thoughts from her mind quickly she sighed and continued, "Mind you, I am not trying to be shocked, or get you shocked. Basically, I wanted to... test this idea and see if I can try to touch it or possibly remove it. I am sure you heard the phone call with Kati and with Rolf... he said he has never seen them go red, so maybe it is different for me."
"Proceed."
Kagome crawled over to his side of the tent and sat herself up on her knees so she was tall enough to reach around his neck easily. "Um before I try... you aren't going to kill me if I am wrong and it shocks us both, are you?"
Sesshoumaru growled in his chest. "This Sesshoumaru has no desire to kill you."
Kagome exhaled. Her palms were starting to sweat. She wanted to test her theory, but the idea that it could shock herself and Sesshoumaru was kind of putting her nerves on edge. She rubbed her hands on her shirt before raising her hands out before her. A mere inch from touching the necklace, she dropped her hands into her lap again. "Has anyone else ever attempted to remove the necklace from you?"
"Never."
"Never?! Really? People are so ignorant..."
"You are procrastinating, Miko."
"I know, I am sorry. I am kind of afraid to try." Kagome admitted, looking down at her hands which were fidgeting in her lap.
"Why?"
"I don't want to be shocked. I don't want you to be shocked either."
"It matters not if I get shocked." Sesshoumaru stated.
"Of course it does! The necklace is around your neck, that would hurt. I don't want to hurt you. I am sure you have had to endure far worse, but I do not want to be the cause. Especially over something as silly as my curiosity and to test my theory." Kagome rubbed her own neck, imagining the pain he might experiance.
"Proceed Miko."
"Okay. Before I get to that... I want you to know, despite everything, I am glad you came with me out here to camp. You don't have to say anything in return, I just wanted you to know that." Kagome smiled brightly.
Again she raised her hands between them. Slowly she crept forward, reaching out in the darkness, trying to be as respectable of his person as she could be. She wanted to just touch the necklace, not him. Sesshoumaru snatched her right hand out of the air and quickly placed her fingertips on the necklace, then released her.
"Eep!" escaped Kagome's lips.
"Miko?"
"I am okay. You startled me when you grabbed my hand is all. It isn't shocking me..." Kagome picked the strand of bead up off his neck and drapped them over both hands, the back of her hands resting against the base of his neck. "Are you okay?"
"Yes."
"They feel much heavier than I remember." Kagome rolled them over her fingertips. "I can't even imagine..."
