Down Time

Naruto sat on top of the house in silence, Hinata resting in his lap, head on his shoulder, and eyes closed. Pein and Konan had eventually been allowed into the village, if not welcomed, and were helping to rebuild, resulting in a fifth of the village already complete. When it was finished, however, they would be returning to Amegakure, which would be an ally for as long as they lived. Sasuke and Hebi had been welcomed and within minutes Sasuke was with his family for a very tearful reunion. So far as Naruto could tell, however, he had not yet explained about what he, Naruto, and Itachi had done.

"Naruto," Sasuke spoke up, appearing behind him.

"Yes?" Naruto questioned.

"I'm going to explain," Sasuke stated. "I think...I would prefer, you to be there with me."

Naruto sighed and nodded and Hinata moved off of his lap smiling.

"I'll wait here," Hinata smiled. "Good luck."

"It's only an entire compound full of militarized Uchihas," Naruto smirked. "What's the worst that could happen?"

Hinata snorted and kissed him then he stood and followed Sasuke toward his home.

"I think you should have Itachi's eyes," Sasuke spoke up after a while. "Sharingan would make you the world's best sword fighter."

"No thanks," Naruto smirked. "Itachi's eyes belong to you. You're his brother. You should have used his eyes to gain your Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. That's what Itachi would want. Besides, I think Byakugan would be better suited to me."

"Only because you're dating a girl with two of the most powerful Byakugan currently in existence," Sasuke stated. "Even Hiashi would be hard pressed to match her abilities."

"And you have the most powerful Sharingan currently in existence," Naruto shrugged. "Either way, Byakugan would be better for me because of my Kekkei Genkai."

"I've never actually seen it," Sasuke stated.

"Someday," Naruto smirked. "For now, I have a request. Do you think you could get Karin to teach me to be a Sensor Ninja?"

"I could try," Sasuke shrugged as they reached the house. "Ready?"

"No," Naruto grinned. "After you."

Sasuke smirked and pushed the door open, stepping into his house with Naruto just behind him. Fugaku looked up at them in surprise but smiled.

"Hello Naruto," Fugaku smiled. "How can I help you?"

"We're here to explain...everything," Sasuke stated.

Fugaku's face instantly shifted to one of grief at being reminded of his loss but also one of relief. He nodded and Naruto and Sasuke sat down facing Sasuke's family and glanced at each other, deciding who should start.

"Years ago, as you know all too well, Danzo tried to set up a coup d'etat that would happen at the same time as the Uchiha clan was being wiped out," Sasuke stated. "It failed and he was exiled. But...Itachi, Shisui, and I had reason to dislike him. He had been trying to make them focus on you and Shisui's father above all else. I wanted him dead but not enough to actually do anything about it. Then, when he killed those five Uchiha, me Itachi and Shisui went to kill him, to keep him from killing anyone else and to make him pay from trying to get us all wiped out. Naruto helped us fight him...but..."

"But then Shisui was murdered," Naruto took over as Sasuke struggled to keep his emotions under control for the first time since Naruto had met him. "Itachi and Sasuke gained a much larger reason to want to kill Danzo, and I gained one of my own. We wanted to get revenge to Shisui, and for the others Danzo had killed. Sasuke and I made a deal. He would leave to train under Orochimaru, and I would train under Jiraiya. Then, when we were ready, me and Itachi would go to help him and together, we would kill Danzo. I waited to tell Itachi until about a month beforehand and he still surpassed both me and Sasuke in power, training for just a month. When we went to fight Danzo, me and Itachi arrived late and found that Sasuke had already started the fight. We had trouble hitting him but Itachi instantly knew that he was using a jutsu known as Izanagi, sacrificing the Sharingan he had taken from the Uchiha he had killed to avoid death. We fought Danzo in turns, to conserve our energy while making him use a lot of his own. Itachi eventually caught him in a genjutsu but Danzo sacrificed an eye to break free and wounded Itachi. The wound took away his energy and Danzo wounded me too. Sasuke used a jutsu he had made just for Danzo and seemed to kill him but then Orochimaru, who Sasuke had absorbed, began to break free."

"Itachi, who was fighting to protect me instead of revenge for Shisui, used his Susanoo to fight Orochimaru and seal him using the Totsuka Blade," Sasuke continued. "But...the strain was too much. He ran out of chakra...He gave his life to save me from Orochimaru. I'm sorry that we didn't tell you."

"I see," Fugaku nodded. "He didn't die for his brother. He died for his brothers."

"Excuse me?" Sasuke questioned in confusion.

"He considered you his brother as well Naruto," Fugaku stated. "You and Shisui. He died to protect both of you, not just Sasuke. And I'm sure a part of him was fighting to avenge Shisui."

"I know it's probably not what you want to talk about right now, but did you preserve his eyes?" Naruto questioned.

"We did," Fugaku nodded. "He had a will. In it, he left his own Sharingan to Sasuke. He left Shisui's Sharingan, however, to you, Naruto."

"He...left me Shisui's Sharingan?" Naruto questioned.

"He did," Fugaku nodded. "However, he left it in his summon crow. He didn't figure you would want to have to play Kakashi."

"I see," Naruto grinned. "He remembered I can't summon crows right?"

"He found a way to get around that," Fugaku stated tossing Naruto a weapon.

Naruto caught it, looking down at it and seeing that it had a large wedge-shaped blade with a ring at the base of the blade, a single-hand grip, and a diamond shaped open pommel similar to the round one on a kunai. There were three diamonds running along the blade that was only twice the length of a kunai's and the weapon itself was black.

"He gave me a knife?" Naruto questioned.

"Correction, he gave you a big knife," Sasuke grinned.

"It's not just a weapon," Fugaku stated. "It is the crow, much like that sword you took from Orochimaru. Let me see it."

Naruto handed it to him and Fugaku made the Seal of Confrontation, channeling his chakra into it and it turned into a crow, standing on the back of his hand.

"WHAT!?" the crow shrieked.

"This is Naruto," Fugaku stated turning the crow so it could look at him. "Itachi left you to him."

"GREAT!" the crow shrieked.

"Would you mind doing that thing you do?" Fugaku questioned.

The crow flew to Naruto and jabbed him on the head once then landed on his shoulder.

"It's kind of cramped in here," the crow's voice mused in his mind. "And this fox keeps trying to swat me. Can you tell him to leave me alone?"

"Be nice Kurama," Naruto ordered. "He's a gift from Itachi. He's not a mental snack."

"Fine," Kurama growled.

"The crow has telepathy?" Naruto questioned, making sure he wasn't going insane.

"It's a jutsu, akin to a genjutsu, in some ways," Fugaku stated. "And he'll listen to you now. Sasuke, you will need to have Itachi's eyes transplanted soon."

"I'll do it now," Sasuke stated. "I'll see you around Naruto."

Naruto nodded and the crow returned to its weapon form and he caught it.

"I'm guessing Itachi used a jutsu to let the crow shape shift?" Naruto confirmed, just to be sure.

"That's right," Fugaku nodded. "It should be about as strong as that sword on the back of your waist."

Naruto nodded then turned and left. After a few minutes, he got back to the roof he had left Hinata on and sat down beside her, wrapping her arm around her shoulders.

"Naruto?" Hinata spoke up after a few minutes.

"Yeah?" Naruto questioned.

"I've been thinking," Hinata stated.

"Anything fun?" Naruto grinned.

"I have something to ask you," Hinata stated and Naruto raised an eyebrow. "You remember the chunin exams?"

"Specifically that you were kidnapped in an attempt to take your eyes?" Naruto guessed. "Yes I do."

"Well, recently I had a nightmare that...it happened again," Hinata stated. "Only, instead of being saved, they killed me and took my Byakugan. Then, they came back to the village and attacked. Because of my Byakugan, no one could hit them. And...they killed you."

"Hinata, I beat Pein, Orochimaru, and Moryo," Naruto smiled. "I'll be fine."

"I know," Hinata assured him. "I know you can take care of yourself. But I don't think I can. I don't want my death to be meaningless or put you in jeopardy."

"Hinata, no," Naruto sighed suspecting what she would ask.

"Naruto," Hinata said making him look at her. "If I die-"

"You won't," Naruto promised.

"If I die," Hinata continued. "I want you to take my Byakugan."

"Hinata-"

"Please," Hinata pleaded. "Don't let my eyes be used against my home. I don't want them to be responsible for any of our friends' deaths."

"Okay," Naruto sighed. "If you die, I'll keep your Byakugan from enemy hands. But I'm not letting you die. Ever."

Hinata sighed and rested her head on his shoulder wrapping her arms around him.

"I know," Hinata muttered. "I know."

"Hey cuz," Karin growled appearing behind him. "If I have to teach you to be a sensor, we're going to get started now. I don't want to have to deal with this any longer than I have to."

Naruto sighed and nodded standing. Hinata stood as well and kissed him on the cheek before turning and heading home. Naruto followed Karin to a field where Suigetsu and an ANBU with long purple hair and a cat mask were waiting.

"What are they here for?" Naruto questioned.

"Any self respecting sensor ninja, with the exception of Karin, needs to be able to fight with their eyes closed," the ANBU stated. "My name is Yugao Uzuki. I'm the best sensor in the village, except Karin."

"I see," Naruto sighed. "I take it I'll be fighting both Suigetsu and you?"

"Me after him," Yugao stated. "I'm better."

"A fact I'm sure he's still fuming about," Naruto snickered. "Alright. Let's get this over with."

Karin and Yugao explained how to sense other shinobi before giving him a blindfold. Then, they attacked him.
