Revival
Naruto put his swords away at long last as Fu handed back his Double-Edged Swords. She grinned and he sighed wiping fresh blood from the scratch on his left cheek.
"You lying brat," Naruto smirked. "You could have mentioned you knew how to fight with a sword."
"Oops," Fu grinned. "Must have slipped my mind."
"You just wanted to fight me," Naruto smirked.
"You mean beat you," Fu sneered.
"It was a tie," Hinata spoke up. "But that was impressive."
Hinata handed Samehada to Fu who thanked her as the jonin arrived on deck, Guy being supported by Aoba and Yamato.
"We're passing an island," Naruto reported. "I can sense something on it but can't tell what. There may be food. We could do to restock, just in case."
"While true, we're already behind schedule," Yamato stated. "We can't afford the delay."
Naruto nodded before his eyes widened.
"Hit the deck!" he shouted dropping to the floor with the others as a massive hawk landed on the deck, picking up Guy before flying away.
"Follow that bird!" Yamato ordered.
The crew steered toward the island the bird had returned to and after a few minutes, they reached the shore, the shinobi all leaving and standing on the beach looking around.
"What is it?" Hinata questioned seeing the worried look on Naruto's face.
"I'm sensing emotions for the first time," Naruto stated.
"Me too," Aoba stated. "That's only possible if...actually, I don't know how."
"What emotion?" Fu questioned.
"Fear," Naruto stated. "And regret."
Naruto and Aoba both suddenly pointed to the trees and shouted about there being people present.
"I'll follow her!" Aoba shouted running forward.
"I'll go to," Naruto stated.
"No," Yamato said catching his arm. "We're going to find Guy."
Naruto nodded and the four left, walking along the path that led through the trees. Soon it became a valley, both sides nearly vertical but not particularly high. After a few minutes, Naruto pointed up and to the right and Yamato hurled two kunai. They had paper bombs and hit the cliff in front of a giant spider before exploding. the explosion blasted one of its legs into the air just before Hinata fell at it with her Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists ready, blasting the spider off the cliff at Naruto. He held up his Sword of Kusanagi, the blade shooting outward and driving itself through the snake, extending out the back as green blood ran along the blade.
"That's one big spider," Fu muttered. "I hate spiders."
Just then, a massive cloud of dust shot into the air behind them. A massive snake came into view and Yamato created a massive wooden gate in front of it, forcing it to stop before Fu smashed Samehada into the top of its head, smashing it into the ground.
"It's a summoning creature," Naruto stated. "There's no way it could be that big otherwise."
"You're right," Yamato stated as the hawk flew past picking up the snake and flying away. "It's an island full of summoning creatures."
"Shall we?" Naruto questioned.
Yamato muttered and they all chased after the hawk.
Aoba looked around the destroyed room. Chair, desk, books, girl. He walked over to her silently.
"We're looking for a friend that got separated from us," Aoba stated kindly. "I'd like to ask you some questions about that. And maybe a few about you as well."
He held out the flower but she simply pointed toward the desk and remained silent, head bowed, dark eyes closed, dark red hair tied in a long ponytail hanging down to her waist. She wore a purple, sleeveless kimono blouse with yellow trimmings held close by a traditional obi with a long, streaming bow tied to it, mesh armor underneath it, and a short white skirt with no shoes.
Aoba walked over to the desk and saw a book laying on it, not covered in dust like everything else was.
"What's this?" Aoba questioned picking it up and setting the flower down. "Investigation into summoning improvements and creation. Creation?"
He glanced back at the girl before opening the book. The first page described the writer having found an island filled with summoning creatures and supplying them to shinobi during a war. Due to demand, they apparently crossbred the creatures, creating new species for the shinobi. Apparently, they then decided to try to find, or make, an ultimate summoning animal. The next page outlined how to control the creature, should it exist. The writer suggested using the equivalent of a Jinchuriki to himself then referenced the survivor of one village or another. The next page, however, was ripped out and after that it was blank.
"A Jinchuriki?" Aoba muttered turning back to the girl. "What is this place?"
The girl turned and left and Aoba followed, soon coming to a cave in the side of the volcano and then reaching a chamber with a small path leading around the wall with the floor below covered by lava. The girl walked swiftly along the path not fearing falling at all. Aoba followed, slightly slower, and soon entered a room with a massive raised section with green-tinted light radiating from the top and a large balcony along the opposite wall with dark windows and the girl standing on it. The wall to the right had two massive shackles with massive chains.
"Hey!" Aoba shouted.
She pointed at the raised section and he turned to look at it. He sighed and walked up to the top, looking down into the liquid and freezing. Inside was a massive creature that looked about like a lima bean with stubby arms on top, wrinkles around its body, two closed eyes and a closed mouth, and a single tentacle extending from its lower body deeper into the water and out of sight.
"Is this thing the Ultimate Summoning Animal?" Aoba shouted receiving no answer. "Guess I'll just ask it myself."
He knelt placing his hand into the water and the pointer finger of his other hand to his forehead protector. He reached out with his mind and instantly developed a headache. Images developed in his mind, first creatures, summoning animals most likely, being devoured by something. Then, the image of the thing rising from the tank it was in as scientists watched in horror. the girl, Honoka, was in a glowing ring of seals, preparing a sealing jutsu. As Aoba watched, the creature's tentacle wrapped around several scientists, shoving them into its body, rather than using its mouth. Finally, the sealing jutsu activated, the seals moving into the air and then wrapping around the creature like chains. After a moment, the creature broke free, one tentacle swinging into the air then down again as the girl shouted for help before the tentacle crashed down on top of her, the floor exploding and being flung into the air.
Aoba jumped back, wrenching his hand free of the liquid understanding how dangerous the thing was. He stood looking around and saw Honoka's spirit standing in the rubble where she had died.
"That means, that you're a-"
"Aoba!" Guy shouted as he ran up the stairs to him with Yamato while Naruto stood at the foot of the stairs with the others staring at the girl.
"She's..." Naruto began as Hinata activated her Byakugan.
"No chakra," Hinata stated. "She's...dead."
Naruto nodded and lowered his head. Then, his head snapped up as the spider and centipede that had followed his group into the volcano arrived and the tank began to glow purple.
"What's going on?" Naruto shouted.
"It's starting to wake up!" Aoba stated as he, Guy, and Yamato leapt off the tank.
A crack ran the length of the creature's body before tentacles shot out, catching the spider and pulling it in before the creature exploded out of its now empty shell. It now had arms and legs, a tail, a mouth on its stomach, tentacles from its oyster-shaped head where its mouth should be, and two black insect-like eyes. The tentacles shot out, catching the centipede and throwing it into the mouth on its stomach which began chewing, the centipede crunching loudly.
"That's disgusting," Naruto gagged.
"This thing is a summoning animal?" Fu questioned.
"Should one of us enter into a contract with it?" Guy questioned.
"I don't think it cares about that," Yamato stated as the creature turned toward them. "Watch out!"
They all scattered as its tentacles slammed into the ground. Guy ran up one of the tentacles and leapt into the air, moving to kick the creature. A short tentacle above its right eye opened and webs shot out, forming a net around Guy. Naruto drew his Crow Blade, leaping up to Guy and cutting him free before leaping away.
"That's spider silk!" Guy stated.
"It got that skill from the spider it consumed," Yamato guessed.
The creature stepped out of the tank, nearly stepping on Naruto who leapt out of the way as Fu slashed at the creature's foot with Samehada. the impact did absolutely nothing and Samehada was unable to absorb any of the thing's chakra.
"Damn!" Fu shouted jumping away.
Yamato sent wood spiraling up around the thing before its eyes glowed red and the wood began to rot before it broke free.
"It absorbed my chakra!" Yamato gasped.
"That's how it was designed to fight Shinobi," Aoba stated.
"Sage Mode time?" Naruto questioned.
"Do it," Guy nodded sprinting forward and opening his fifth gate.
The creature tried to step on him then hit him with spider silk but he got past it and threw a punch only to stop when its eyes began to glow. Naruto closed his eyes as Guy and Fu were both caught in the genjutsu. After a moment, Aoba summoned several crows that exploded into puffs of smoke in the creature's eyes, blinding it and ending its jutsu. Yamato caught Guy, who was falling and Naruto ran over to Fu, freeing her from the jutsu as Hinata blasted the creature with Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists. It stumbled then what looked like a horn grew out of its forehead before lighting up and blasting Naruto and Fu with Lightning, launching them to the door they had entered through.
"The lava!" Naruto suddenly gasped. "We drop it into the lava. Kill it!"
"Right!" Yamato agreed running over and forming a wooden wall around Naruto. "Naruto! Sage Mode!"
Naruto closed his eyes as Guy and Hinata both hit it at once and launched it to the edge of the cliff over the lava. It stood, staggering backward before falling from the cliff only to rise from the cliff on new wings attached to its arms. As they ran forward to end it, it sent a blast of wind back trough to tunnel, forcing them all to a stand-still. Finally it began to leave as the hawk latched onto its back to hold it inside the volcano. It flipped over, throwing the hawk off and the summoning animals above began leaping off at it, trying to keep it busy. Suddenly, Honoka appeared walking past them but as Aoba reached out to her,his hand passed through her.
"I knew it, you really are..." Aoba said but stopped when she gave him a sad look.
"No Aoba, you can't let her!" Yamato stated.
"She's merely an echo of her former being," Aoba stated.
Naruto reached out his mind to the girl and managed to catch a glimpse of sealing jutsu.
"No," Naruto muttered stepping forward and reaching out to her. "She's-"
She held her hand out, resting it in his own and it began to shine.
"-an Uzumaki!" Naruto finished. "Thank God. That means this might actually work."
He closed his eyes as glowing green chains shot out of his palms, blood spraying across the ground as the chakra wrapped around Honoka, seeming to bind her. Then, Naruto's right hand released a pulse of chakra and the chains shone for a moment before fading, Naruto's hands healing themselves as Honoka fell to her knees, gasping for breath. Naruto stepped forward, grinning, and helped her up, the others all staring in shock at the now clearly alive Honoka.
"Aoba, keep her safe," Naruto ordered as his Sage Mode pigmentation appeared along with a clone who helped him form a Rasenshuriken as the hawk attacked the creature again.
Naruto sent chains out of his left hand, blood again splattering the ground but hurled the Rasenshuriken. The chains restrained both the hawk and the creature so Naruto retracted them at the last second allowing the hawk to escape as the creature was hit directly, being cut in half, both halves falling into the lava below.
"It's over," Yamato sighed.
"Welcome back," Naruto grinned kneeling in front of Honoka. "Cousin."
Honoka's eyes widened before she hugged him then pulled back lifting his left hand and looking at it. There were five large holes in it where the chains had exited that needed to be healed immediately.
"You're hurt!" she gasped.
"It's alright," Naruto smiled as the holes began to heal slowly. "I heal fast. Perks of being a Jinchuriki."
Her eyes widened but she nodded and placed her hand over his. Her hand glowed green for a moment before she removed it and he saw that his hand was fully healed.
"You're a Medical Nin!" Naruto gasped. "What a coincidence."
She smiled and nodded then stood and Naruto did as well, exiting Sage Mode.
"Come on," Yamato spoke up. "We should all head back to the ship. We've delayed here long enough."
Naruto nodded and they all left, Aoba showing Honoka around the ship when they arrived and inviting her to stay in his room. She agreed and the crew got the ship moving again and they left the island of summoning animals behind.
