Chapter 105: Sail away

Kagome glared. "That is not what I am doing!" she nearly shouted, her happy mood quickly turned sour.

"You called for him last night."

"So? I was sleeping. He has nothing to do with why I am out here! They have nothing to do with the reason I came out here. I came out here to just get away for a while and not have to deal with this fake life I am stuck living in. I miss them everyday, and I have missed them everyday since the well closed. They were my friends. I wouldn't expect you to know what it feels like to have people you love ripped from you by forces you can't control!" Kagome fumed. Standing, she ran towards the waterfall as the tears spilled from her eyes, making small rivers along her cheeks.

Kagome dropped to her knees on the bank of the river. Not the best decision as her jeans became soaked. The tears had stopped during her run to this destination, leaving her sniffing and puffy-faced. The reflection staring back at her, distorted by the current, was the same reflection she had seen since she was 16. Nothing had changed... except for the person inside of the shell.

She wasn't 16 anymore. She was nearly 33! She had loved Inuyasha and dreamed of a life with him, but fate hadn't put that in the cards for her. She had come to the conclusion, long ago, that while she deeply loved Inuyasha, she would never be with him. It broke her heart to know that her first true taste of love could never last. Part of her heart would forever belong to the silver haired hanyou. Just as other parts of her heart would belong to Sango, Miroku and Shippou.

That is the thing with love. No matter how much love you create and give to others, your heart has a way of making more. No matter how many scars it carries. Things could be worse than they are.

She wasn't trying to recreate the past by being out here. She enjoyed the outdoors. Yes, often time spent outside brought back memories of her friends, but that wasn't a bad thing. The ache for them wasn't nearly as painful as it had been the first few years.

She sighed. Again, she had allowed her angry to get the better of her, and she had said things to Sesshoumaru that she shouldn't have said. She didn't know his life, his thoughts, or what he has had to endure in his seemingly endless existence. She had no idea of anything about him. He clearly loved Rin and death had taken her from Sesshoumaru. She had some apologizing to do. Not that he would apologize to her, but she wasn't him.

Plucking a fallen leaf from the dirt, she dropped it in the water over her face, and watched it sail away.
