Teddy and Family

Chapter 33

A/N: Those of you new to the story welcome! Just in case anyone is getting confused with where this story is going, well it's more of a journey and I go where my muses take me, so there is no set path. No outline. Pretty much just my imagination and an amazing cast of fantastic characters to play with.

Love all of your favs/follows/and reviews! They make me smile!

Any and all mistakes area all mine! Enjoy!

Cin XOXO

Disclaimer: When it comes to EL or Meyer's characters I own nothing. I'm just having fun with the characters, but the OC ones and story ideas are all mine. (I love to play with her characters but with my AU spin on them from my other story. Sorry folks I don't do Cannon ever. Like, Love it, Hate it…you have been warned ^^).

Ana

It's the vibrations that force me to pry open my eyes to see if I'm actually moving or if it's all in my drug addled mind. I felt it before but couldn't fight off the aftereffect of the anesthesia to absorb what was going on. I could have sworn that I was in a helicopter at one point, because you can't mistake that feeling when you lift off the pad into the air. There is nothing like it. This feeling is completely different. The power is palpable as is the telltale roar of the engines.

I have to blink a few times before my vision clears and I can focus on my surroundings. I'm not in the over the top hospital suite that I was expecting. No, instead I find myself in what can only be described as a state of the art infirmary like what you'd find on Air force One.

Holy Cripes?! Did Chris borrow Air Force One?! My voice is dry as the desert so the only thing that comes out is a squeak.

"No, not Air Force One…" A soft chuckle murmurs from the doorway. Edward walks in with a cup of ice water with a straw in his hands. "May would be insulted by the comparison. This work of art belongs to Ella. Christian borrowed her for the weekend. It was her HQ during missions."

He rolls a stool over beside my hospital bed and helps me take a sip from the straw. "Slowly, not all at once."

"Like mother, so like son…" I croak out hoarsely, now that my throat isn't as parched.

"It's a dominate James-Walker family trait…" He smirks, as he checks the digital screen monitoring my vitals and then my IV with the expertise of a seasoned pro. "What's your discomfort level…?"

"Fine…" I answer softly, shooting him a perplexed look, as he records the readings from the screen onto a tablet. "Is there nothing that you can't do?"

"I had endless time on my hands waiting for Bella to be born and an infinite will to learn. Law, Medicine, Academia, the Arts, Aeronautics…the list as my siblings will tell you in quite long. We moved quite frequently and had to reinvent ourselves. Being forever seventeen had its challenges, but being shackled to High School for eternity was something that I couldn't have tolerated without taking out my aggression…"

"Oh, I can imagine, like taking out the entire Biology class?" I manage a soft giggle, now that I know that he's not just winging it. I was ready to scream for Paul or page Chris using our link.

"Not one of my better moments and something that sickens me to this day…" He mutters softly.

"Why? You can't fault yourself for a reaction that you had no control over and if it makes you feel better there is no way that you could have followed through with what your darker half was compelling you to do. She's your split-apart, your other half, and that alone would have reined you in…"

"Wrong…at that time my inner demon wasn't registering anything but the fact that she would taste like the finest wine in existence…it was decades of control that stopped me…having never experienced love before my mind couldn't fathom the link. Imprinting to my heart-mate couldn't register in my analytical mind…It's clear that you haven't gotten very far in my journals…"

"Bella made me eat and took it away…" I sulk petulantly.

"Eating while indulging in Libations is highly encouraged…"

"Bella kept filling my glass…" I flush a little under his parental gaze. That's not far off seeing as he's what over a hundred and I'm like six months shy of twenty-five?

"If you wish to be technical, after the cure my age is more like forever twenty-one instead of my previous forever seventeen. This year on June twentieth will be my one hundred-fifth year on this earth. Carlisle was 23 born 1663, Esme was 26 born 1921, Rosalie was 18 born 1933, Emmett was 20 born 1935, Jasper 19 born 1863, and Alice was 19 born 1920…."

"I'm not even gonna ask about the others? Are the Indian warrior demigods older than time too or…"

He bursts out laughing, eyes dancing. "I'll be sure to tell Jake and his brothers that they've achieved demigod status…the Pack as we fondly refer to them only recently came into their immortality..."

"Pack…" My eyes pop wide.

"Wolves…Juvenile Werewolves…Weres…shapeshifters…."

"The Wolf Sanctuary…"

"Poachers and illegal game hunters tend to gravitate towards the exotic and what's more exotic than taking down a dire wolf as your ultimate trophy…Creating the sanctuary was a given to protect our family."

"That was one of the changes that Bella made in her saga…Bears but no wolves…yet she kept the vampire aspect intact…"

"Werebears are partial to the Canadian north…she was going to go with pixie rather than vampire, but it was causing unrest in the family so she chose to keep us vampires in her story. It was bad enough that she chose to use my birth surname Masen that caused a small war. In my family there are enumerable egos at play and now that we're not in hiding wished for their surname instead. Nessie pointed out that it was our story and that they should just be content that she even decided to include them at all…"

"Why Pixie?" That makes zero sense.

"Why did you chose to stop at Volterra during your honeymoon?" He counters with a question of his own that has me staring goggle eyed at him and he looks less than pleased.

How the heck does he know that? What in the world made Chris confide that?! It was a little sleepy town in Italy celebrating their beloved Saint Marcus. What's so bad about Volterra anyway?

"Bella calls them the Romani in her Saga and that they resided in Tuscany. In reality the few that are left are known as the Volturi and their home was the village of Volterra. Although, she changed their names what they were remained intact…" He locks eyes with mine and I gulp.

Pissed off big brother vampire? Cripes!? I dragged Chris and Luke into evil vampire central!? Holy shit! Marcus!? Saint Marcus Day?! That nice old grandfatherly gentleman?!

"Marcus being the only good egg out of the three brothers, so he wasn't a threat to you. There is that and no one even to this day would even think to hunt there. You were fortunate that by the time you decided to try and find the mythical village in my Bella's books that the majority of us were all day lighters now and cured of the bloodlust, including Marcus and his coven of loyal followers. Certain mutterings from our extended family across the pond, during that spring and summer, now make perfect sense. Bella's and my doppelgänger were being carefully looked after because of their tendency to go exploring Shining One hotspots. I shrugged it off as not my concern…" I don't flinch from his gaze seeing as it's identical to Chris's, so now he's pinching the bridge of his nose and muttering darkly under his breath.

"Extended family members?" I clear my throat, willing myself not to break under his chromatic Vampiric glare.

"Too many to name…Makeena, Charles, Alistair, Bram, being some of the top ones in Europe with Liam, Siobhan, and Moria residing in the Isles…Granted I've named mostly cured vampires, but Bram is the Patriarch of the Were's and heads up what is known in the Shining One community as the Guardian's of the Light…"

It's all true!? Great Grandmamma…all those stories…all true…

"And you never even have the slightest inkling that Shining Ones are indeed living among you…we prefer it that way…"

Going back to my original question, because now I'm damned curious I ask him again. "Why Pixie?"

"Why supernatural hunting? Curiosity will get you killed, little girl."

"I've always been drawn to anything weird. It fascinates me. It also makes me curious to go exploring where the stories that entranced me originated. To find out how much is fact and how much is fiction. It's just how my mind works. It doesn't matter if it's taking a haunted tour at an old train station or old historic building. Ghost towns. Pyramids. Castles. Ruins. I love them all. All of the Scooby Gang do. All of the family are for the most part good with it all too, except for pansy Luke Sawyer…" I mutter under my breath. I still to this day have not forgiven him for humiliating me.

"Gods you are worse than Bella! And in Luke's defense, seeing a shapeshifter shimmer into human form from a bat will make any big brother scoop up his little sister and run for the hills…" He's up pacing and pulling on his hair now. "How in the name of Finn does Christian remain SANE!? The things that go BUMP in the NIGHT are REAL! They can and will KILL you if given a chance and YOU…." He glowers at me then starts pacing again. "WILLINGLY sought them OUT for FUN!"

"Yep," I nod, shrugging my shoulders. "It's not like I don't have a warning system in me. If I feel someone, thing, or place that makes me feel like I'm breaking out in hives…then I steer well clear of it. Great-Gran Ana always taught me to listen to it and that it wouldn't steer me wrong…"

"Well, that completely skipped Bella entirely…" Edward glared up at the ceiling and snarled something rude in Gallic. "She got Pixie spider-sense…Chris lucked out…the bastard…"

"Pixie what?" I look at him like he's insane! Then again I'm talking to a cured Vampire for cripes sakes!

He takes a deep calming breath, several in fact, then goes back to sit down on the stool. "The story of the two princesses marrying mortals and whom their parents were that's all family history. Those books in your restricted section are ancient family heirlooms. Bella has a collection of her own past down to her by her Grandmother Marie. Marie was one of the princesses in the story and Ana whom you are named after was the other. Making you a quarter pixie and fairy as well as the Pixie are a faction of the Fae. Making you and Bella fifth cousins or fourth something like that…Cain and Fiona are Charlie's Grandparents and Oberon and Titania are Renee's, mine, Christian, and Logan's way down the line. Triplets run in the family. Cain and Oberon are part of a set of triplets as are Fiona and Titania. Finn and Allana being third parts in those sets and happen to be your mother's Great-Great Grandparents..."

"So when you changed Bella she got so much more than she ever dreamed…" I sigh in envy.

"It's been a never ending adventure…" Bella stood in the doorway with a smoothie in her hands. "Just as you and Chris have had many adventures of your own. Marcus has been holding out on us, as have all of our family across the pond." She narrows her eyes at Edward.

"Now, now, my treasure. They did try and tell us at the time, but we weren't paying attention to the clues. Christian wasn't even a thought to me and you'd yet to meet Ana. My thought at the time was that everyone has a doppelganger out there sometimes more than one and that is who they were seeing. Ella hadn't really told us specifically to watch them and Mackenzie commissioned Em, Alice, and Esme to do their houses. I chalked it all up to all of them being bored to tears, so much so that they'd made a game of watching over our doubles." He croons soothingly to her.

"True, I was worried about our oldest who had chosen to flee the den earlier than I was ready to handle. That and Jake was not handling it at all and needed us to keep him focused. The boys were little monsters getting into everything keeping us on our toes. My book was breaking records worldwide. So it was no wonder that I tuned out anyone trying to alert me of our doubles." Bella walked over to my bed and set about fixing it so that I could sit up and drink my weird looking smoothie, all the while verbally sparing with her other half about why it took them so long to clue in about Chris and me when their extended family members had tried to tell them years before. "Nor did we pay any attention to anywhere other than were our immediate family were living and we stayed out of the public spotlight. It wasn't until Bertie forced me to go on that book tour after the second book was released that anyone really got to see my face or yours for that matter. Then and only then did I clue in that Ana and I looked shockingly alike or that her husband was practically your double. It was only then that curiosity got the better of me and I did some serious research on Ana and Christian."

"Christian and I didn't cross-hairs until he started going after companies that were on my hit list to take down LTE and then with the two teams. It really wasn't personal and those companies and the Executive staff who ran them weren't nearly what they seemed. Finding that he was Ella's after reading the lengthy dossier on my adversary made keeping him and his loved ones out of the line of fire a challenge."

"LTE? Chris was ordered by Mackenzie to steer clear of anything that had to do with it. If there was a company that he was after affiliated with them then he honestly didn't know it. Thank you for looking out for all of us. If they are or were on your hit list then they are beyond bad news…" I'm pale as a ghost knowing that if they were on his target list then it meant baddies with shouty capitals!

"There isn't anything to fret about little sister. He's leashed. Your family is under our protection. You're blood. IT doesn't wish and will not risk that kind of hellfire and brimstone to be rained down on IT or its minions. IT's also felt Ella's wrath and never wishes to again. Watchers do not give out second warnings." Edward's turning those eyes and that tone on me and it works better than any anti-anxiety meds ever. It's like this warm blanket feeling. Chris can do it too, so it's not a vampire trait and must have been genetic.

"Watchers?" I squeak, as it hits me that he's referring to Ella being one.

"Even Shining Ones have bylaws, checks and balances, a council of elders who govern over us and watchers who enforce those laws or act as guardians when situations arise." He nods. "The founder of LTE is The Lycanthrope, as in the Original. The First. There is nothing as dark, vile, and evil as IT on this plane of existence."

"That's enough!" Chris is glowering at the two of them with fierce stormy gray eyes and a jaw set in leashed fury. "I TRUSTED you to look after her, not frighten her out of her MIND! OUT! Both of you NOW! LTE is out of bounds and I know this! Mackenzie taught me that one when I interned at the family company! She's my mentor! My teacher just as much as Grandpa T is and I would never break that cardinal rule! I didn't get why, seeing as she didn't seem to have to follow it, but again I respect my mentor! The last thing that Ana needs is the two of you filling her mind with some thing so evil that he rivals The Master from Doctor Who! OUT!"

"Christian, I was the one who…" I try to take some of the heat off of them, but Chris isn't having it.

"It's fine. You just woke up after major surgery and he's reached his limit. You're so open-minded that it's a refreshing change…" Edward isn't the least bit challenged by my guy's glare. Nope, he's matching it.

"We'll just raid the kitchen galley for a snack." Bella grabs Edward by the arm and drags him out of the room and the pocket door silently slides closed.

Air Force One is the President of the United States Plane.

Lycanthrope is basically a fancy name for a viral werewolf.

Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television show produced by the BBC since 1963. The Master is his arch enemy.
