I do not own Naruto Thirteen or any of the characters. Skipping Kisame's interrogation and death in favor of a challenge chapter pm'ed to me. Plus there's nothing absolutely important about that chapter in my story and I wanted to have one last chapter before Tobi heads you know where.
Day Off
Naruto sat in the chair beside the table where the others were eating. Kisame had been successfully captured but had committed suicide by sharks, one of which had almost escaped with the scroll of information Kisame had tried to send off. Before he could, Gaara had managed to catch the shark with sand and crushed it. Then, they had taken the scroll and Aoba had spent the next few hours reading it to see what Kisame had thought important enough to record.
"Hey," Hinata spoke up sitting beside him. "Know what day it is?"
"No," Naruto admitted. "What day is it?"
"It's Valentines Day," Hinata smiled. "Wonder what the others are doing."
"I can only imagine," Naruto grinned. "We'll probably have to deal with a bunch of mini Sakuras and Sasukes when we get back."
Hinata blushed but nodded.
"And what are you going to do?" Hinata questioned.
"I am going to take the entire day off and spend it with the most important person on this island," Naruto grinned.
"B?" Hinata questioned.
"No you," Naruto replied. "I would have thought that was obvious."
Hinata blushed but smiled and leaned on his shoulder. Naruto's thoughts quickly drifted to the others at the village. He wondered to himself what they were doing.
Shizune knelt beside Tsunade for what felt like the millionth time that day since she was repeatedly sent away by the doctors to get something so she would be out of the way. Shizune, while being a skilled Medical Ninja herself, was less than no help right now since Tsunade should have woken up a long time ago and yet was still in a coma. If she hadn't woken up soon, Shizune was going to break down and ask Naruto to try to wake her up like he had Minato, even though both Naruto and Minato had explained that it wouldn't work.
Suddenly, Tsunade's eyes fluttered open and she groaned.
"Lady Tsunade!" Shizune cried happily, throwing her arms around her. "You're awake!"
"Yes," Tsunade groaned. "And I'm hungry. Go get me some food Shizune.
"Oh, uh, yes ma'am," Shizune nodded standing. "Right away."
She rushed out of the tent and got all of the food Tsunade had gathered in case she happened to run out of chakra and need to get it back to keep up her transformation jutsu. When she was back, Tsunade began to eat faster than two of Choji.
"More!" Tsunade ordered.
"But, there isn't anymore," Shizune stated receiving an evil glare. "I mean, yes ma'am, right away."
She rushed out of the tent again but stopped when she saw Shino.
"Run out of emergency food already?" Shino guessed.
"Yes," Shizune sighed. "Now where do I get it?"
"I stockpiled some food for my insects a while back," Shino stated. "You can have some of it."
"Oh, alright," Shizune smiled following him. "So, how have you been?"
"Fine," Shino stated.
"And Fu?" Shizune questioned smirking.
"W-what do you mean?" Shino stammered staring at her in shock.
Shizune simply raised an eyebrow and Shino sighed.
"Naruto?" Shino guessed.
"Actually Sasuke," Shizune stated. "It would seem he's bee giving quite a few people advice. Fu was apparently the easiest."
Shino sighed and continued walking.
"So far as I know she's good but I haven't heard from her," Shino stated. "Out of curiosity, has Sasuke gotten around to Neji and Tenten yet?"
"I doubt it," Shizune smirked. "He said he was going to help Sai and Ino first."
"Good luck," Shino grinned.
Just then Ino skipped across their path ahead of them giggling and holding Sai's hand, dragging him along. Shino and Shizune watched in surprise.
"Man's got talent," Shino admitted. "Never thought anyone could get Sai to do something aside from fighting right."
Sasuke stepped around the corner and raised an eyebrow. He had intended to help Neji and Tenten get together since he seemed to have developed a habit of giving relationship advice but they were currently enjoying each other's company, a lot. He grinned and walked back around the corner then up to the top of the Hokage Monument where Sakura was waiting.
"Finally," Sakura sighed. "Well? How'd it go?"
"Everyone except Lee is with someone else," Sasuke reported. "Still working on finding someone for Lee."
Sakura nodded as Sasuke sat down beside her grinning.
"What now?" Sakura questioned.
"We have all day to do whatever we want," Sasuke stated still grinning.
"Really?" Sakura grinned. "Then I guess we should get to it huh? You'll start with a fancy restaurant, then you'll help me shop. After that a fancy and expensive dinner. If you're good and don't complain, I might give you a reward."
Sasuke stared at her in shock then lay on the ground groaning.
"Well, if you're going shopping, we'd better get moving," Sasuke stated. "Otherwise we'll be in the mall until midnight at the earliest."
Sakura giggled and nodded and they both stood. Then, she all but dragged him down to the village and to the single most expensive restaurant in Konoha where a cheeseburger, while not fitting the fanciness of the restaurant, cost several thousand Ryo.
Miles away, Nagato and Konan were resting on their way back to Amegakure. They would be there shortly but they had been traveling for a full day so they were tired and needed a break. Plus it was getting dark, so it was a good time to stop.
They were sitting in a field under a Sakura blossom tree with petals below them among hundreds of flowers of varying kinds and colors. Nagato was silent, lost in his memories of being with Konan and Yahiko when they were young. His mind inevitably got stuck on Konan and Yahiko's relationship. And why shouldn't it? Even now he could tell she was thinking about him. She was always thinking about him. She had loved him then and she loved him now. Neither had spoken about the fact that Nagato had basically admitted to loving Konan when he had spoken with Naruto before reviving the victims of his attack on Konoha. Nagato had decided to try to forget saying it as Konan seemed to it wasn't so easy as she made it seem. Nothing was.
Konan could feel Nagato watching her as he had so often after admitting his feelings. She felt bad for not saying anything about it and avoiding him as much as she could while they were in Konoha. She had time and again stayed out all night to continue working just so that she could have an excuse to sleep all day when Nagato was out working. And it had not gone unnoticed, she knew. She could sense how badly she was hurting him but she couldn't force herself to face him. Not now that she knew.
Her mind again drifted to her time with Yahiko and her feelings for him. Part of her refused to forgive Nagato for using Yahiko's body as a puppet, though she new that was simply his way of trying to keep Yahiko with them. Similarly, part of her had frequently replaced Nagato's face with Yahiko's when she heard his voice, despite knowing that it wasn't Yahiko. Finally she decided she couldn't avoid the conversation she knew they needed to have. She knew how he felt and he knew she still loved Yahiko. But it still needed to be said.
"Nagato," she finally said, voice small, knowing what she wanted to say had no way to be said that wouldn't cause hm pain.
"I know, Konan," Nagato sighed. "You still love Yahiko. And you cannot forgive me for using him as my first path. I am sorry for that."
"I know," Konan stated voice more quiet than before.
"You know, don't you?" Nagato questioned knowing her answer. "It did not escape your notice."
"I know," Konan confirmed.
"I see," Nagato nodded staring at the ground. "I am sorry that I was unable to save him. That I was unable to trade places with him."
"Don't wish that!" Konan snapped. "How could you possibly want that!?"
"Because then you and Yahiko could still be together," Nagato stated as Konan's eyes widened. "Because, then you could be happy."
"But..." Konan began. "But I don't..."
"It would have been better if I had died and Yahiko had lived," Nagato stated. "Yahiko would not have allowed the Akatsuki to fall so far into wickedness. He never would have killed so many. And you could have been happy all these years. You could have been with him, as you were supposed to be. As you were meant to be. Yahiko was always better than me. I deserved to be the one to die that day. Not him. I should have-"
He stopped as Konan's hand slammed into his cheek. She was in front of him now with tears streaming freely down her face.
"Don't you dare say you deserved to die!" Konan spoke voice even and forceful despite the fact that she was crying. "Don't you dare say that you should have been the one to die. Yahiko chose to sacrifice himself so that the two of us could live. You know that. And don't you dare think for one second that I regret you surviving. You are the most important person alive to me."
She was sobbing by this point and Nagato pulled her into a comforting hug.
"Regardless of...how I feel about him..." Konan continued after a couple of minutes pushing herself up and wiping her eyes. "He's gone...I can't change that. Neither can you. But you are still here and I'm not going to lose you too. I can't."
Nagato lowered his eyes to the ground again.
"Konan," Nagato sighed. "I could bring him back. I have that ability."
"You...No!" Konan gasped. "How could you even consider that? You know that would kill you!"
"But you could be with him again," Nagato stated looking her in the eye. "I could return him to you."
"No, Nagato," Konan said shaking her head. "You don't get it. I don't want to loose you. Even if it means that Yahiko can come back, I can't lose you. I can't."
"Why?" Nagato questioned.
"Because...even if I still love Yahiko..." Konan stated voice suddenly weak and unsure, as if she was afraid of how he would react. "Part of me...loves you too."
"You...but..." Nagato stopped brain struggling to catch up and understand what she had said.
Konan giggled in spite of herself at the face he was making then leaned forward and kissed him. After a moment she pulled away and looked him in the eyes to try to gauge his reaction. He was staring at her blankly and her first thought was that he was died until he blinked. Then, his hand moved to the side of her face and wiped away the tears that were still there. She smiled and kissed him again and this time he kissed her back. After a few minutes, she pulled away and rested her head on his shoulder, wrapping her arms around behind him as fresh tears streamed down her face.
"Konan," Nagato spoke up after a few seconds. "I love you."
"I love you too," Konan smiled.
Nagato smiled and hugged her closer to himself, resting his head on hers as they both drifted off to sleep.
As I said, this was a filler chapter, more or less that someone pm'ed me about to challenge me to list out most of the pairings I would have. Sorry for ghosting over most of them, I will be more in dept but since the story has reached that part, I figured it was time to have Konan and Nagato be together. Anyway, read and review. Also, since no one was read it yet, I figured I should try advertising it. Any shippers for Konan and Nagato, please read my Nagato's Pain story. It's the rewrite since the first try was going to be very long and complex up until I lost my plan for it. Anyway, again, please read it if you ship Nagato and Konan. Thank you.
