Kagome assumed she would not recieve an answer, but to her utter shock she did.

"You are tolerable, for now."

Kagome's mouth hung open. "That was almost... a compliment... from Sesshoumaru."

"Watch yourself, Miko."

Kagome walked over to the side of the bed, once she had processed what Sesshoumaru had just said, "Mind if I sit for a minute?"

Sesshoumaru inclined his head.

"Thank you." Kagome sat on the edge and looked back down at her hands in her lap. "I really wish things could be better between us, since we are sort of stuck with each other." She looked up and caught his eyes. "Who we were back then, is not who we are now. Can we start over Lord Sesshoumaru? Can we forget what transpired in the past between you and I? To tell you the truth, lame as it sounds, you are really all that I have."

Sesshoumaru stared at her for a very long time. After several minutes had passed, Kagome began to grow uncomfortable under his scrutiny. She really wanted a second chance with him, to start anew.

"No." Came his response before he looked out the window again.
