Chapter 15: Dinner with the parents
Laura
The weekend ended in a jiffy and just by a blink of an eye, I was at home with my family. My parents' came back from their weekend hideaway a few hours after I came back. I was now sitting in the room with Renesmee as we studied for our history final this week that I hardly paid attention to, my mind was fixed on only Jason, when I'd get to see him again, how I missed his voice and his kisses-
"Oh earth to Laura" Renesmee exclaimed snapping her fingers. My mind was shifted back to her
"Hmm?" I asked obliviously. She just laughed
"Thinking about my brother huh there Laurie?" Renesmee teased. My face turned beet red "Oxford isn't going to appear by itself" she laughed
"Um yeah about that…I have been thinking" I began. "Maybe I'm making a mistake" I said suddenly. Her face shot straight up
"What?" she asked confusedly
"Yeah, I don't think I'm ready for that sort of change yet, I wanna stay I like it here" I shrugged as I flipped through pages
"Do you hear yourself clearly?" she asked frantically as if I were stupid
"I know it's a crazy idea-" I conquered but she stopped me
"It's sure as hell is, you can't pass up an opportunity such as Oxford" she said as a matter-of-factly. I just grimaced
"Maybe I wanna go a little risky, maybe I'll just stay here for a couple of years and go to Oxford when I'm ready" I smiled. That'll be a really good idea "Maybe I'll attend Washington next fall" I smiled. Her eyes widened
"University of Washington?!" she coaxed loudly. I shushed her down "How can you even think that, you're not making sense"
"Maybe my life doesn't always have to make sense Ness, I can't leave yet I'll just take classes here and go to Oxford when I'm ready" I argued. She eyed me carefully before nodding in realization
"I can see why...it's obvious you're thinking about Jason, there will be other guys Laura" she reasoned "And it's only four years he can literally wait a century for you"
"Nessie, I can't put him through that kind of pain" I sighed
"You're only going to give him pain just by leaving, so what's the point of holding back" she said softly. She got up and sat on my edge of the bed "He'll get through it, Jason would want you to take this opportunity…Christie would have" she mumbled as she lay her head on my shoulder "he loves you Laur" she conquered. I had silent tears falling off my cheeks thinking about the outcomes "Uh…um I think I'll be heading home, I have dinner anyway...love you, bye" Nessie said quickly before getting up
"Goodnight Mrs. Mason" She said by the door. I spun around to see my mother standing by the door wearing her reading glasses and robe. I huffed and made my way to the balcony of my bedroom. It was chilly outside given the fact it's spring so I wrapped my cardigan tightly around my shoulders. My mom wrapped her arms around me in comfort
"Mom, why does everything in life have to be complicated?" I asked as I watched the stars up in the horizon around the moon. The midnight Moon
"Life's always complicated I know sweetie, being a teenager is a thing that most of us mere humans take for granted, we're not the kids who always dreamt about reaching up in the sky of the twilights wondering how many of the million stars they can catch and rearrange…I'm talking about you Laurie" she said nudging my arm. I chuckled "but there is that one star that all of us wish to catch, and when we finally see it, it's our choice if we really need it and with that star we'll find our path" she said sympathetically
"What if I'm choosing the wrong path mom? I don't want to be in someone's Alma Mater" I sighed
"Then that's your decision baby, you're the one who calls the shots, sometimes life just happens whether we want it to or not…Je t'aime plus qu'un battement de coeur" she said in French briefly saying that she loves me
"I love you too mom" I replied and she kissed me on the forehead before separating from our embrace
"Dinner's almost ready" she informed me. I nodded and she left. I stared up at the sky as I watched the stars glister and glow in the moonlight. I had to make a choice; I had to go with the path my heart wanted. It was either I choose to go to Oxford and leave a very broken Jason or listen to my gut instinct that tells me that Jason is my future but also going behind my family's trust…
After Dinner I got ready for bed and drifted into unconsciousness not long after.
The day after
It was the period before lunch and I was in Chemistry class with Mr. Eastwood and I sat with none other than Tyler Josephs. Tyler and I were friends –much to Jason's dismay- but Tyler and I were awesome, just like we were when we were freshmen's. I had forgiven him for what he did to me one year ago. There's no point in holding a grudge on someone for that long when you already have the perfect person-Jason-.
"So I heard you're offered for the Oxford scholarship program?" he pointed out as he whispered to me as we studied the art of mythology. My eyes widened and he just laughed "Your dad told my dad so…" he shrugged. I nodded, of course
"Um, yeah I guess, I'm waiting for the call at any minute" I shrugged. He smiled and nodded
"I'm sure you'll get it either way" he muttered as he nudged my arm. I chuckled
"We'll see…" I answered as I continued with my notes. There was a knock on the door
"Um…there's a letter for Miss. Mason" A scrawny freshmen said as he entered the room. My head shot up and all eyes were on me. I took the letter and muttered a thank you before opening it.
"What does it say?" Ty asked as I fixed my eyes on the page. My eyes widened as I read it and I let out an embarrassingly awkward squeal…
Lunch began and I frolicked over to Renesmee who was by her locker placing her books in it. I got to her and began to hum a melody as I flipped the letter around her. She sniggered
"What is this?" She laughed as she took it from my hands. She read everything before widening her eyes "Oxford honors program, offering a four year scholarship to the prestigious classes in campus, and we're accepting transfer students from around the world…you and 186 other students are elected to attend our school for early orientation" she gasped as she read it. I nodded giddily "Laura this is huge" she squealed happily
"Well you're not getting rid of me that easily, we've got a yearbook to attend to, remeber?" I smiled. She nodded agreeing before making our way to the cafeteria. We stood by the line and I was wondering where Jake and Jason went off too
"Hey, where's Jacob today, is he missing in action again?" I joked
"Jacob kind of took a break from school because he had the pack to take care of, plus more wolves are phasing and his got work" Nessie answered me. I nodded understandingly
"Hey there ladies" Emma's voice chimed as she appeared by our side "It feels like forever since I've seen you guys" she said as we made our way to our table
"I know it feels like that sometimes" I said as we pulled away from each other's embrace
"So what's new ya'll?" she asked in a westerly voice. I giggled at this. Emma had always been the joker in our little girl circle even though we hardly saw each other much, we were still best friends'. I shrugged whilst Renesmee just smiled
"Laurie got accepted to Oxford!" Nessie told Emma as she smiled wickedly at me. I just rolled my eyes. Emma gasped
"Seriously" Emma asked
"Nessie got engaged" I fought back and Emma double gasped (if that was even possible)
"Whoa, you guys aren't April fooling me right now because it's only two months away you know?" Emma oppressed a huge grin and Renesmee. I laughed
"Yeah" she said as she showcased her ring in front of Em who was gawking at the 18 carat diamond
"Yikes, lords have mercy on my soul that must have cost a fortune" Emma gaped. Nessie and I guffawed at our crazy friend "I hope Jacob is the right guy…Jacob did propose to you right?" she pointed out
"Of course Em, why would you…" Renesmee laughed and Emma just surrendered herself as to say 'I'm just saying'
"I just hope I'm a guest" she said as she chewed her food
"Well you'll be more than just a guest" Renesmee hinted. Emma just looked oblivious as she had confusion stricken on her face "How'd you like to be one of my bridesmaids?" she asked and Emma gaped
"Yes a thousand times yes" She pulled Nessie in an embrace "But you have to know I'm not all good on heels" she said
"You can just go barefoot" Renesmee said. Emma smiled and nodded happily. Then the lunch period went off and we were off to our next class. Turns out Jason was stuck for the period in detention with his class because they supposedly caused a 'riot' in Mr. Beckerman's class, the most non-awesome, strict teacher in campus
Afterschool came by in a blur and Jason and I were headed to my house for a study date. He parked his car by our driveway and we walked hand in hand into my backyard.
"You'd think I'd enter high school because I did it for the fun of it and not for you?" he asked as we shut the backyard door
"You know what I do," I replied, he scoffed "I see how you are around all humans, you love it, why is that so hard for you to admit"
"I'm only doing this for you Laura, I made decisions to be with you anyway possible and I'm only happy because I get to see you all the time" he smiled as we sat on the swing and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder pulling me close. I scoffed, he's so cheesy sometimes. He laughed at my thought
"I get it Jay, I also have decisions to make too" I answered soon in realization. He frowned at me in confusion
"Like what?" he asked. I was about to answer that was until my mother appeared. We both spun around to see her standing with her usual smile
"I was just making some snacks inside, are you guys hungry?" she asked motherly. She saw our moment and smiled apologetically "I'm interrupting something aren't I?" she asked
"Just talking mom" I answered
"Yeah, about homework" Jason added and I just chuckled. She nodded understandingly and signaled that she'll be inside if we needed anything. My parents' had finally come to terms in Jason and I relationship for the past week after a lot of persuasion from my brother-thanks bro-. I then got up and extended my hand "Talking about homework...come on" I smiled. Jason snickered
"I was just joking" I eyed him and he just sighed but agreed. We made our way inside the house and into my room. We set our books on the bed and began our studying routine
"My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep, the more I give thee, the more I have, for both are infinite…" I quoted as I read the William Shakespeare novel. Whilst doing so, Jason had been kiss my neck and suckling on it. It started off as ticklish but soon became intense and strong "We've got an English final tomorrow…we have to focus" I said trailing off as he then roamed his hands up and down my thigh and pulling my hair to the side as he got better access. I smiled timidly as he licked my earlobe "My mom's downstairs you know" I said hating to ruin the moment. I could hear him smile against my skin as he kissed my cheek. I then threw him aback on the bed and hovered over him. He grunted
"My dad can come in at any minute you know" I reminded, he just shrugged "He carries a riffle for a living" I reminded
"It's a good thing I'm bulletproof" he grinned his heartbreaking crooked smile. I punched his chest lightly
"Not funny Jay" I muttered getting off of him. He just snickered
"So you're worried about what your dad will think" he said
"I'm worried about what he'd do, it's highly dangerous you know" I laughed
"Definitely dangerous" he mumbled kissing my cheek. I smiled slightly "how about that English final?" Jason asked. I nodded and we continued our study session
Three hours later had passed and it was getting dark as the sun set
"It was a pleasure seeing you Mr. and Mrs. Mason" Jason declared as he confirmed his departure. He gave my mom a quick hug and my dad a handshake
"It was a pleasure having you Jason, you don't have to so modest and polite call me Katherine" My mom smiled approvingly
"I'd prefer Mr. Mason" My embarrassing dad said sternly. Jason nodded awkwardly
"Dad…" I warned shaking my head disapprovingly. He gave me a slight smile and a nod
"Why don't you stay over for dinner Jason, we've got enough food to feed a pack of wolves" My mom suggested. Dad's eyes widened but after getting a glare from my mom he soon loosened
"Oh I don't know I've eaten a buffet of food at lunch today so…" Jason answered politely
"Oh come on son, it's just one dinner, it'll give us a chance to get to know each other better" My dad said with a smug smile. This couldn't be good…
Jason nodded slowly before taking one look at me I'm sorry, my dad's so embarrassing I said hoping he read my mind. He let out a weak smile as we headed to the dinner table. I felt utterly bad that Jason had to pretend all the entire night. Ugh my dad can be so impossible most of the time…
"So Jason, tell us about yourself, your background?" my dad began
"Well, I come from Alaska where I was fostered most of my childhood then I moved here about three years ago when my sister Bella got married to my brother-in law 4 years ago, so the Cullens' took me in" he replied. He nodded
"I'm deeply sorry about your parents" my mother said sympathetically. Jason smiled
"It was a long time ago anyway" he thanked her
"You share a strange resemblance to Renesmee isn't it? Very wonderful girl she is" he asked almost accusingly. I then began stomping my feet lightly in nervousness and gulping down my water. Jason wrapped his hand around my free one and I was instantly calm
"Yep I get that a lot, I hear it's in every family, where at least two of the kids look similar or we're probably separated at birth" he joked. Katherine and I sniggered whilst my dad just smiled and nodded
"So do you have any special talents?" he asked
"Oh his really good with bowing, he can catch a bird in a blinding second and he can dance" I said trying to help out
"Oh that's interesting, Laura here is a dancer herself" Katherine smiled widely at me. I smiled back at my mom
"We should bow together some time; I hear the best way to capture a bird is aiming right at the throat as it pulls out the windpipe and murders it instantly, then I guess we can use the knife to dissect it gently in the gut as it dies instantly, fascinating isn't it? How the animal life dies rapidly" he said smiled timidly as he soothed the table knife beside him. I choked on my drink
"Um yea…I think Jason needs to get home now" I declared as I vaguely saw Jason utterly uncomfortable in the situation he was in
"Thanks for the lovely dinner Mrs.-" he began but my mom eyed him "Katherine, and it was great seeing you sir" Jason said as he got up. My dad smiled
"Call me Jerry" he ushered. Jason nodded
"I'll walk you out" I said before we both headed to the door
"I'm really sorry about that" I mumbled as we stood on the doorstep. If Jason could perspire I'm sure he'd be sweating his face off
"It was actually not as bad as I thought" he smiled. I grinned and got on my tiptoes. Our lips were millimeters from each other before he stopped "You're dad's watching" Jason whispered
"Good, why not give him a peak show" I whispered and pressed my lips on his. Our kiss was soft but full of that amount of passion. We pulled away and I opened my door. As both Jason and I were about to leave we were stopped by my dad
"Oh wait before you go" he began and laughed "I hate to point fingers here but what did you take from my room?" He asked eying Jason who just looked confused
"I'm sorry sir?" he asked
"Well my wife and I's dresser was left locked this morning, now I see it's unlocked mysteriously" he grimaced
"Dad please..." I pleaded "He didn't take a thing I swear" I confirmed
"What's going on here?" My mom intervened as she entered the room.
"Jason here took something from our room" He said accusingly. My dad then flung on Jason and held him up the wall
"What game are you playing son?" Jerry asked
"Dad, he didn't take anything!" I exclaimed frantically. He spun around to glare at me
"How sure are you?" he hissed at me
"Because I did" I confessed slipping a condom from my pocket. My mom held her head in her hands whilst Jason just looked shocked. I smiled sheepishly. Jerry looked at me disappointedly and then set Jason down in a hint of embarrassment
"Oh my..." Jason whispered to himself as his eyes were fixed on me with the condom. My dad sighed
"I'm sorry" he said before leaving the room. My mom pulled Jason in embrace asking if he were okay
"I'm okay, thanks Ma'am" he smiled reassuringly. She nodded and took one nod at me before following my dad's trails
"God, I'm so sorry" I sighed as we left the house
"Well that was something" he laughed. I smiled apologetically
"Now you see why I never wanted you to meet my family?" I asked. He smiled
"I stand corrected" he answered and bent down to my level "but guess what, I don't care because I'm still standing and I get to kiss you" he smiled kissing me passionately on the lips. I wrapped my arms around his shoulder with my legs around his waist. We pulled away and hugged our goodbyes
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow then?" he asked and I nodded slightly
"That's if I come up with convincing lies if I want to see you because you aren't exactly my dad's favorite person" I said and smiled sheepishly. He smiled back and shrugged
"I guess we'll have to find a way" he suggested and I nodded before standing on the doorstep. I titled my head only catching Jason taking a picture of me. I just scoffed "That's my wallpaper" he smiled adoringly. I rolled my eyes before opening the door
"I love you" I whispered knowing he'd hear
"I love you too" he projected into my heading before opening the door to his car and driving off. Another night without Jason was torture…
I got inside and made my way to the living room texting to Renesmee about our day tomorrow only to hear my parents arguing about something unfamiliar
"He could be the one we're looking for" My dad's voice appeared
"Don't be so paranoid Jerry, he's not the guy we're looking for, and you're just being an overprotective dad that's what it is" My mother argued. More so than one
"How do you explain his resemblance to that family, how do you explain the fact that he hardly touched the dinner you so darn worked on…he's the lethal target Katy" My father seethed. What did her mean by 'he's the lethal target'; did both my parents' know what the Cullen's were?
"We hunt them blood bathers for a living and I know one when I see one…I'm telling you, he is an Omega" Dad added. My eyes widened
"Let's just get more info on him first and let's not jump into conclusion, if he were any kind of danger to Laura she wouldn't be here right now" my mom said. I couldn't believe this…my own parents' Hunters and not only that but they kept it away from me all my life…
I rushed out the backdoor and closed it lightly hoping they wouldn't hear. I then began dialing Jason's number. He answered at the third ring
"Hey Jay…I think we have a problem…"
TO BE CONTINUED…
A/N: How'd you like the cliff hanger I left for ya'll, I feel if I want to make the story more interesting, I'd need to create a bigger plotline (thanks Teen Wolf)
A/N: Excuse my french I kinda took it from Google translate so blame it on it
What'll happen now? Do both Laura's parents' know about the Cullens existence and are they out for them? Or is it one of those misunderstandings?
