Chapter next one!
Yo guys, I'm sorry! I forgot and I've been busy and ugh I'm terrible! I'll update more often! I even have the story written and I don't update. Shame.
Yeah, it's sort of overkill at the beginning. I know Shinichi's pretty ooc. I was really angry when I wrote it sooo it influenced me a lot. By the way, Shinichi seems like the type of person to leave his cell phone in one place and not really care if he has it with him all the time. To me, at least.
Shinichi awoke late the next morning, still feeling groggy and upset. The moment after he sat up in his bed, his cell phone rang. He jumped a bit, then reached for it on his desk. It was Kaito calling, and Shinichi told himself that he didn't want to talk to someone so hyper first thing in the morning.
Throughout the day, Shinichi read his new books and cleaned a little, among other activities around the house. When he settled in for bed, he checked his cell phone's missed calls. Kaito'd called thrice after the initial time. However, now Shinichi was too tired to talk, so he decided to call Kaito the next day.
The next day, however, Shinichi went out to spend some time with Ran. When he got home, he tried to experiment with making a balanced dinner for himself. It didn't taste too great, but it was bearable. Another three missed calls from Kaito on his cell phone, and one on his landline.
The day after that, Shinichi went out to buy a new lightbulb to replace a burned out one in his house. He didn't intend to stay at the hardware store long, but a murder occurred and he stuck around to solve it. Two missed calls on his cell phone, and one on his landline.
The next day, Shinichi somehow didn't wake up until noon, and when he went downstairs to make some coffee, he screamed. There was no more coffee. How could he have neglected to buy more when his stock was low?! He irritatedly went to the closest grocery store to procure some of the delicious drugs he so desired. Around 1 PM, he was finally savoring the rich taste of coffee. Soon afterwards, Heiji had come to visit and loudly proclaim his superiority to Shinichi. He didn't leave. And he didn't let Shinichi sleep. Shinichi barely had time to check his missed calls. One on the cell phone, one on the landline: both from Kaito.
The next day, after Heiji had finally left, Shinichi flopped onto his bed and slept until nighttime. When he got up to have a quick snack, he checked his phones. No missed calls. He went back to sleep.
On Wednesday, Shinichi walked out of his room, past the wilting red rose, into the living room with the decision to watch a bit of television, stretching and thinking about calling Kaito after he was a bit more awake. After turning it on, he jumped up at the sight of the news channel's topic for today.
"Kaitou Kid has sent a heist notice for this Saturday at 8:00. The target is a prestigious jewel that was just imported from Scotland. Right now it is on display at the heavily-guarded Nanikawa Museum in Tokyo."
"Awesome!" Shinichi said aloud, turning off the tv and turning to the door to go scope out the scene. But he stopped dead when he saw something blocking the doorway.
"So," said Kaito. "You've sort of been avoiding me the past week. Is there something wrong?"
Shinichi couldn't say anything. The surprise of seeing Kaito in his house in the early morning, and the shock of the poker face void of any emotion whatsoever, left him frozen.
"I haven't been avoiding you."
Kaito scoffed. "That's what you're going with? Such a lie. You haven't called me or answered my calls."
"I've been busy. And besides, I was planning to call you later today." He shrugged.
"Have you been busy? Looks like you're sitting around watching tv."
Shinichi snapped. "Hey, do you even like me?"
Kaito was startled. This wasn't at all what he had expected. "Wh...what? Of course I do. Don't act crazy, Shinichi."
"Just because someone says they like you doesn't mean you have to agree to date them."
"But I do like you!" Kaito whined. "I do, I do! Promise!"
Shinichi slumped down into a chair and sighed. He blew his hair out of his face, noting that he should probably get it cut soon. He looked back to Kaito. "What's the thing on the desk in my room?"
Kaito cocked his head in confusion. Suddenly he was gone, and Shinichi counted to seven before Kaito reappeared.
"This rose that I gave you?" Kaito asked, holding it up. It was shriveled and probably crunchy.
"Yeah. That's the one. What color is it?"
"Red..." Kaito said, not understanding why he was being asked such strange questions.
"Yup," Shinichi confirmed as if that was the end of the conversation.
"So what?!" Kaito asked with a flicker of irritation in his voice.
"So...it's not white. I've seen you give out plenty of other roses, but never a white one. Except to me."
Kaito was silent for a long time. Shinichi didn't look up and he'd almost begun to suspect that Kaito had left when Kaito flung the rose onto the floor and said, "Is that what you want? Just a white rose? Why didn't you say so?"
He produced a white rose and tucked it behind Shinichi's ear. Shinichi looked up, surprised., then returned his eyes to stare at his own hands.
"I gave you a red one because it's supposed to symbolize true love, right?"
Shinichi looked up again, his skin beginning to crawl with heat.
"And...I was out of white ones that day."
Sweet moment over.
"You ran out?" Shinichi asked, chuckling.
"Well yeah! I hardly ever gave any of that particular color out before but then you came along and giving you one every single time really lowered my supply...so that day I didn't have any more. I'll never do it again. I promise." He kissed Shinichi on the cheek.
Shinichi leaned back in his chair, taking the flower from behind his ear and twirling it in his fingers. "Wow, am I an idiot or what? I actually thought that you changed your mind about me. Haha...phew. I was really nervous. Now I feel like all I can do is laugh."
"Good thing you're happy again!" Kaito said, patting Shinichi on the head and grinning.

Wooosh. Overreaction of the Shinichi? Yah. Review! I love you all!
I know that was cheesy. Haha. wow. It should be getting better soon though (evil grin)
