Jack felt like someone had punched him in the stomach. Mac was kidnapped by his father. He was so not ready for this. A long forgotten enemy or a psycho or even Murdoc he could handle but this? He couldn't even express how shocked he was. He saw his expression matched with his other team members
"Wait wait" said Bozer "Mac's Dad? As in the elder MacGyver?" Matty nodded "I cannot forget his face. I just don't understand why would he do this?"
"Yeah first he kidnaps McKenzie's son then asks him to kidnap Mac. It doesn't make any sense" Riley frowned not being able to connect the dots
Jack fisted his hands until his knuckles went white. He felt anger swell in his veins ready to explode any second. The blood rushed to his head and he heaved short breaths "That scumb of the earth is nothing but a coward! He asked Ned to do his dirty work because he didn't want to get caught" he replied to Riley's confusion
"Damn what kind of father kidnaps his own son" Bozer was as angry as Jack. Infact all were stunned at the news. Matty walked towards Ned "Did he tell you what he needed Mac for?"
"No. He just asked me to bring the kid to me. I'm sorry"
Jack pointed his finger at Ned "Sorry is not enough! If you had come to me when he took your son then none of this would've happened"
"What was I suppose to do Jack? He threatened to kill Joe. I was helpless" Ned argued back. Jack took an angry step towards him but Matty held her hand out "Stop blaming him Jack. We should find a way to track James down. Riley get on with it. Use your computer skills and find this man"
Jack glared at Ned and turned his back at him. Ned sighed sadly. He was worried to death about his son and knew exactly how Jack was feeling. Jack's eyes fell on the screen "If you've hurt Mac then I'll make you pay and you'll regret being born in this world"
OTHER SIDE
Harold was seething in anger. He aimed his gun at Mac and fired. The boy closed his eyes accepting the pain to hit him with full force but it never came. He slowly opened his eyes and saw the bullet had safely lodged in the opposite wall. A part of him was disappointed that Harold missed his shot. He was so tired and wanted this ordeal to end.
Harold grabbed him and held his chin up "Death is not going to come this easy for you kid" he again roughly hauled Mac up "Let's see what your dear father has to say about the stunt you pulled" This time Mac wasn't given any stick to hold on for support. He stumbled, fell and was dragged back to the room where he had met his father.
James frowned when he saw Mac "Wht's he doing here? Has he agreed to sign?" Harold gave a vicious kick at Mac's side who groaned loudly "No! He let the other kid escape"
James's eyes widened and he got up from the couch "What? The kid escaped? Where were you doing?" he raised his voice and Harold ducked his head down but growled at Mac
"If the boy has escaped...this means the cops will be here soon. We've to hurry!" James walked towards his son "Why are you being so stubborn. Is money more important to you than my life" he shook Mac by his shoulders "I'll kill you if I've to but you'll sign the papers!"
Mac froze in his father's hold. Kill him? James was ready to kill him? For money? He stared into his father's stone cold eyes with so much anguish that James had to tear his eyes away. Mac felt deep ache in his heart. He thought his father would only hurt him but now he was ready to kill him. Suddenly nothing was important to him. He didn't care if James got the money and ran away with it. He didn't care if Joe was able to bring help. He didn't care if James killed him here and now.
The bottom line was...James was willing to take his life for money. A father was ready to kill his son.
Mac didn't know what made him nod but he did it anyway "Where do I've to sign?" he asked feeling numb and empty inside. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't know when the papers were streched out infront of him "Here" said James and gave him the pen
Mac signed the papers and James hugged his emotionless son "You did the right thing son. Thank you" he patted few times and turned to face Harold "Send him back" James then looked at Mac "I'll never bother you again Mac. Thank you"
Mac slumped down on the floor like a statue. The boy felt so betrayed, lost and lonely that he didn't even register his father's words of sending him back. He didn't know how long was he on the floor but the next thing he knew Harold was dragging him out of the room.
Mac broke from his daze and struggled to get free. He did what seem to be the best move at the moment. He caught Harold's leg with both hands who lost his balance and the grip he had on Mac and went face down on the floor, gun slipping from his hand. Mac crawled towards the weapon and before the bully could get back his bearings, he brought down the gun on his head. Harold was out like a light.
Mac threw the gun and sprawled on the floor. He panted heavily taking deep breaths. His eyes fell on Harold and thought he needed to get out of here before the bully woke up again. Mac's hands sluggishly reached out at the edge of the couch and he forced himself to get up. He bit back his scream when the pressure was added on his leg
Mac looked for something that could support his legs. He found the baseball bat which Harold had used on him. Mac hoped towards it and picked up the bat and stumbled his way out. With the bat taking most of his weight, the agent dragged his aching body to the front door. Fatigue, exhaustion and mentally tired Mac felt the world was spinning around him. Dark spots danced infront of his eyes and suddenly he was finding difficult to breathe
Mac knew he needed to get out. He needed to keep moving but he couldn't. Just when he moved one step further, the bat in his hand fell on his side and Mac's eyes rolled at the back of his head and lost consciousness.
OTHER SIDE
"It will be difficult to track Mac's father. Whatever he did with his identity...Jack this could take days" said Riley not taking her eyes off her laptop. Jack held his hand out "First of all no one calls that jerk Mac's father and secondly I don't care how much time it takes...just do it Riley"
Ned sat down on a chair and hid his face in his palms. James had told him before who Jack was working for when he came to visit him. And if people in his team weren't able to find the boys then what will happen to them. Tears formed in his eyes as he cried silently for his son.
Jack sighed when he heard soft sniffles coming from his friend. Ned was genuinely guilty about his actions but remorse wasn't a way out. If only he would have come to him first...
Bozer came running inside the room "Matty! Jack...you"
"Whoa ..take a breath Boze. What happened? Did you get any lead on James?" asked Jack
Bozer nodded and went outside. All stood confused for few seconds and then they saw Bozer bring a young boy in the room. Before Jack or anyone could ask who was the boy, Ned jolted up from the chair and hugged the boy "Joe! Oh my God...Joe! I can't believe it's you son"
Jack stood speechless at the father son reunion with a pang of jealousy. He wished it was Mac standing thre and he was the one hugging him. From the appearance he could tell the boy had managed to escape and he had no doubt it was Mac's doing. That self sacrificing idiot, thought Jack "You better be in one piece when I find you kid"
