"After you," Spy said as he held the door open for Elise.
"Whatever."
Spy followed closely behind Elise, his gloved hand reaching into his pocket with anticipation.
"Stop," Elise hisses. She turns around on her heels and looks Spy up and down. "I know what you're doing."
Spy has his hand halfway in his pocket, his fingertips sliding back and forth on the metal of his beloved Ambassador. His eyes go wide for a moment before he pulls his hand out slowly.
Elise's eyes don't show anything, no anger, no sympathy. She's composed.
"Come here," she commands.
Spy tilts his head and crosses his arms over his chest.
"Are you telling me what to do?" Spy asks with narrowed eyes. "You don't ever-"
"Spy, don't you ever talk to me like that. You know just as well of what I can do. You've so willingly trained me to be a killer, and I don't think either one of us wants to recreate what happened earlier today." Elise's voice is rough and hoarse from her crying. She takes two long strides towards Spy and takes hold of his tie. She pulls him down and clenches her teeth. Spy lets out a little noise, which causes Elise to scoff and roll her eyes. "Don't get too excited, you nasty Frenchman."
Spy's eyes never leave hers, and they both hold the gaze.
"I'm ready to get out there. I want to get out there. I have to release all of my anger. I must get out of this area!"
"Spy, you are not ready."
Elise cocks the Ambassador. Spy's breath catches when he realizes what Elise has done. He inhales calmly and swallows down his tiny ounce of fear.
"You're very intelligent, Spy."
"As a Spy, I must always be one step ahead of my enemy."
"Am I your enemy?" Spy asks defensively.
A hard, steaming stare down.
"You'll never know," Elise grins as she pulls the trigger.
Spy closes his eyes and turns his head away quickly. When he realizes that he's not dead, he opens his eyelids slowly to stare inside the barrel of the gun. Then, to Elise's eyes. She smirks and turns the gun sideways to present the empty revolver.
"You're good at manipulating," Spy comments.
Elise rolls her eyes and lets go of Spy's red die. She puts the engraved revolver in her pocket, right beside hers.
"Who ever said that I was manipulating you?"
"The tie?" Spy said obviously as he tucked his crumpled tie back into its original position.
"What happened to hiding your emotions?" Elise turns around again.
Spy's mouth opens slightly as he inhales. "I showed no emotions."
"But your little purr said otherwise, my dear. And, because of your little weakness, I got the upper hand," Elise said. She revealed her gloved hand from behind her back, and in it, she presented Spy's knife and his Dead Ringer dangling from her fingers.
Spy's eyes go wide as he pats around his suit to look for the missing equipment. He chuckles lowly and shakes his head.
"You've got quick fingers, ma chère," Spy compliments as he walks over to Elise.
She starts to back up, putting Spy's belongings in her other pocket. Her back bumps into the table and her hands hold the edge.
Spy advances. His dress shoes now touching the tip of Elise's. His shadow looms over Elise as she stares at him fearlessly. He leans forward and rests his hands on both sides of Elise. His fingers grip at the edge of the table.
"But so do I," he purrs in his native tongue.
A finger strokes her wrist, moves up her arm, then down the length of her front torso.
Shivers went down Elise's spine, but she chose, so expertly, to ignore it. She found it easier to ignore something by biting the inside of her cheek. A hidden technique, one that's hard to notice unless observed very closely.
"You're attempts at being manipulative are amusing, Spy." Elise mocks.
"Are they now?"
Elise grabs onto Spy's hand as it begins to trail back up from under her blazer. She holds it up to find it empty. Her eyes go wide. Spy smiles defiantly and holds up his other hand with his gun, pocketwatch, and butterfly knife.
"Is it really so amusing now, Spy?"
Elise's heart skips a beat, her laughter threatening to escape.
"Very."
Spy narrows his eyes and conceals his weapons, never breaking the gaze. His lips turn up slightly as he exhales a deep scoff. His mouth opens.
"So, Spy, what is it you want to learn? I'm sure we've already been over everything you need to know. I don't think-"
"I want to change forms."
Spy stops his pacing, his mouth open midway. "Do not interrupt me."
"Well too late, I already did." Elise cracks her neck. "Now, teach me how to change forms."
"Stop saying that."
"Why?"
"It's not some magical power that will turn you into anything you want," Spy informs with a smug look.
"Uh, yes it is. You turned into a blue Spy."
Spy thinks for a moment. He looks up at the ceiling and raises his eyebrows. "Okay, yes it technically is. But in reality, it's a piece of metal programmed with different variables, formulas, and all those scientific terms. If you really want to go in depth with the works-"
"Spy! I could care less! Just teach me how to do it!"
"I can't teach you how to do it. It's just something that you should automatically know."
"What do I have to do?"
"Give me your case."
"My what?"
"Your case. Give it to me."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Spy groans and pinches the bridge of his nose. His moment of loathing Elise's presence is interrupted by three quick knocks on the door.
"Go away," Spy commands.
The door opens. In the open doorway is Miss Pauling.
"Good morning gentlemen and uh... lady," Miss Pauling greets. She passes the two Spies and places the small leather briefcase on the table. She pulls out a small rectangular case of some sort. The petite woman turns around and hands it to Elise.
"What is this?" Elise asks as she turns the case around.
"Miss Pauling, would you happen to have any more cigarettes?" Spy cuts in.
Miss Pauling nods and opens up the case again, tossing Spy a pack of cigarettes. Then reaches back in to bring out one more. She tosses it to Elise who fumbles to catch it.
"I don't smoke," Elise points out.
"Just keep them." Miss Pauling nods her leave and closes the door.
Elise tries to process what just happen. "What?" Elise questions.
"Hand it over," Spy says as he holds out his hand for the case and cigarette.
Elise gives them to him as he opens the case and the pack of cigarettes. He puts some in the slots and then turns it around to show the inside to Elise.
"Whoa," Elise says in awe. "What is it?"
The inside is all metal and the cigarettes are lined perfectly with the already set slots. On the right panel, a screen displayed a sign that said RED. Under the screen was three buttons; two yellow one red. Over the top of the screen, 'SPYTRON 3000' was painted skillfully onto the cold metal.
"These buttons switch from your subjects, and that's it."
"I don't get it."
Spy shakes his head and lights a cigarette. He inhales deeply, exhales out his nose. "You know what, Spy, I'm going to give you an assignment."
An assignment? Elise hasn't been given an assignment since she got here.
"I'll give you a day to figure out how this disguise kit works."
"A disguise kit?"
Spy takes his own out and presses a button. Red smoke clouds around him, and once it dissipates, Medic appears.
Elise gasps and clenches her jaw tightly. Her breathing becomes heavy and hot.
Spy can see the recognition in Elise's eyes, and for a moment, he fears that she knows. Her eyes start to gloss, but she turns around before Spy can witness the tears.
"Okay," she says before disappearing behind the door.
Hey-o! I've found some time to write another chapter! Yay!
This chapter seems to be very different from the others... I don't know why, but I just feel that this doesn't fit.
But that's just what I think. I want to know what you guys think! I want to know how this whole story is going, and if I should continue writing. Maybe, if you guys want, you can suggest what will happen next, because I'm actually in quite a rut of writer's block.
Thanks for reading and being so patient! Don't worry, there's only two more exams and then I'll be free to write!
Hugs and Kisses! :)
