Epilogue: Season Unending
Back at London, half an hour after the war
"Fire broke out of Ivory Bar, burning it to the ground. That kid is cunning…" Ellen reported.
"..."
Westcott is thinking of how to deal with the meetings later on. The attempt to launch the missile backfires as he is summoned to the conference.
"We'll deal with that later, but I think we should shift focus from now on…" he answered.
"What?"
"To deal with male Spirits like Ripper. Ripper may have been sealed, but Nanoka who is supporting the devils behind the male Spirits will likely be the next. They can interrupt our research with Inverse. We will have to find him and kill him!"
"Yes Isaac…"
Meanwhile, at an abandoned building
Nanoka is holding a blue soulstone which appears out of thin air.
"The time… Has come!"
Nanoka impales the soulstone into his chest. The stone sinks into his body while the wound lits up with black flames.
"ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHH!"
The short scream is then turned into a demonic cry. Afterwards, he returns to normal. Lucifer is now in Nanoka's soul.
"Yes… The body of Psychic!"
However, the joy is short lived as he is immediately met with resistance.
"What?"
The resistance is so powerful that it consumes Lucifer's soul as well.
"NO! NO! NANAYA!"
Nanoka then assumes control, with no ill-effects like migraine or whatsoever.
"Hehehehehehahahahaha… You're a fool to trust me, I know all of you so well. My powers rises before anyone even notices. I never have the intention to serve the Hell, neither the Heavens. Remember, we are Psychics, when we dwell the dark side, we are even more powerful than you! I am unlike him!"
Nanoka now contains Lucifer, imprisoning the Lord of Pride within his soul. Lucifer finds himself being restrained by the very soul of Nanoka, realizing his mistakes of trusting him. Nanoka then calls out Lucifer's weapon.
"Lucifer-Yamato!"
With blue flames engulfs his left hand, a sheathed katana is formed. Nanoka then draws out the sword, mesmerized by the light blue shine on the blade.
"Such a good weapon, this with Azazel, the grand plan is in motion!"
Few Hours Later, Onboard Fraxinus
Everyone are asleep as Fraxinus is flying back to Japan. Yuki is not sealed yet, while Arashi is contained in the room. The twins are separated momentarily, as they are all asleep. Yuki fulfil her promise to cure Mana, who strives to be stronger.
But Arashi is visibly having nightmares, the young man still continues to dream of the old days where he have to kill, and his friends being killed. Cold sweats are formed on his forehead, it is observed by Reine who is recording down everything.
Suddenly, Arashi wakes up with his eyes wide open. He is panting and checks on himself, only to see Reine outside who walks in later.
"Are you alright? You seem to have a very bad nightmare." she asks in concern.
"I'm fine, it's been many years this nightmare haunts me…"
"Years?"
Reine starts to suspect Arashi has PTSD.(Posttraumatic stress disorder) Considering the trauma he had when he was young.
"Yeah… Flashbacks, of me killing people, people dying in front of me and getting killed etc. But they just happen once in a while…"
Realizing it is not, she gives a sigh of relief.
"I'm afraid you have PTSD… But it seems that you are still fine…"
"…"
Arashi remains silent while Reine offers help.
"Perhaps you need some help?"
"Yeah… Maybe…"
"Don't worry, we'll arrange it."
"Thank you…"
Suddenly, the door opens with Mana coming in.
"Reine-san, I would like to talk to him."
"Alright, I'll be leaving then."
After Reine left the room, Mana approaches him.
"Arashi-san…"
"Mana-san, Yuki cured you right?"
"Yeah…"
Arashi smiled when he hears that, feeling happy for the girl.
"Actually I have a request." Mana spoked.
"What is it?"
"I want you to train me in swords."
The request surprises Arashi.
"I know you are one of the best swordsmen back in the clan. I lost all the power as a Wizard, I need to become stronger by tapping into my Psychic strength."
Arashi couldn't help but to think about the training, what it can do to anyone.
"I… Listen, I don't wish to turn anyone into a killer. Nanaya's styles focus on ending your foes' life either the quickest or slowest way. It is these training with the mindsets will turn any Psychic into the dark side, which is why I had Nevermore."
"What?"
Mana can somehow relate this, but Arashi speaks again.
"I will try and think of a way though…"
"Really? Thank you, Arashi-san!"
She is delighted to hear this with a smile on her face.
"Well, I'll take my leave then. Thank you."
Arashi attempts to go back to sleep as Mana left, he can't help but to think about the leader of the Hunters. The hint from Woodman is big enough for him to suspect Kyo is still alive. After all, the leader is still at large and never appear on the battlefield.
"I'm just making things up I guess…"
The next day
The ship reaches Japan and everyone wakes up on the ship, with Kurumi missing yet again. It is afternoon, everyone alights the ship except Arashi, who is detained for inspection like others before. Shido is arranged to date with Yuki, sealing her. The idea is nonetheless irks Arashi quite a bit as the fact that Shido will have to kiss Yuki to seal her is making him uneasy…
Despite not doing anything, Arashi is not bored, but he kept thinking about how his life could have ended if he never met Shido and Kaguya. However, he is still think about the test, can he pass it without his powers?
"His Spirit waves are virtually non-existent, in fact like Yuki has said, he is as good as a human, losing darkness which was his most proficient and dominant power. Losing all the souls had rendered his death powers close to useless as well."
Reine reported to Kotori, who have been observing the operation.
"It is just very unfair to him… We can release him along with Yuki now."
The twins are brought to their new home, the Spirit Apartment Complex beside Shido's home.
"This is your new home, we hope you two will like it." Kotori said.
Seeing their new home, the two are delighted, knowing they don't have to run away anymore.
"Sure!"
"And you two, take this."
Reine hands out both of them their ID card.
"You two are given a clean slate, you two are no longer dead, you can live normally from this day on."
Arashi show signs of appreciation, he is very thankful of what Ratatoskr did. He also understands why their way works today.
"Thank you…"
Arashi bows to the two of them.
"Well, you still have to report back to school tomorrow. Better come up with things to handle your ever curious classmates."
"Yeah, sure." Yuki replied.
After Reine and Kotori left, Yuki and Arashi stay in the apartment to chill out. Sure enough, the next day when the two introduce themselves in front of the class with their real name, they get countless questions on what had happened.
Arashi and Yuki have some of the best time in their life, Arashi is always hanging out with Shido and Tonomachi at bowling alley, while Yuki and the other Spirits are always chit-chatting. However, peace don't lasts…
Two weeks after the war
"I'm being followed…"
Arashi is walking alone at night, who is trying get some cool night breeze. However, the young man can sense someone is following him.
"And there are two of them, one rookie, the other one more experienced, both are not aware of each other yet…"
Both person are not aware that they are being noticed, Arashi continues his act of not knowing it. He decides to lure them to an open field.
"The experienced one will drop the tail once I get to the fields, the rookie will not. I'll interrogate the rookie there."
The more experienced stalker immediately stop following once he realizes Arashi is heading to the open field, knowing that his cover has been blown. But the rookie continues to follow, sure enough they reaches the field.
"What? Where is he?"
The rookie is shocked to see Arashi is nowhere to be found. Suddenly, Arashi's voice scares her.
"Why are you following me?"
Arashi asked with his switchblade drawn. Though he doesn't show it, he is surprised to see that the stalker is actually a girl. She is wearing a baseball cap, a spectacle and her overall dressing doesn't look like one. The rookie immediately raises her arms in air.
"Wait! I'm not trying to harm you, I'm told to give you something."
Arashi removes her cap and it reveals her short pale blonde hair, he immediately recognizes her, it is Karen Nora Mathers.
"You are with Mr Woodman! What the hell are you doing here? For him to send you to follow someone when your cover is so easily blown… You could have died if it was someone else!"
"That was actually his plan. We figured you might want to look at these, you must have been thinking about the leader for the Hunters…"
Karen hands over him an envelope. Which Arashi rips open, inside containing photos, all these photos shock Arashi as he opens his eyes widely in disbelief. It is the photo of the leader of the Hunters, Nanoka himself. Arashi recognizes his looks, in fact, Nanoka didn't change much from many years ago, his messy hair, his eyes, Arashi can't believe his worst fear has happened.
"Im…Impossible…"
"I'm sorry to break this news. He just decimated DEM wizard led by Ellen. We believe that he is hunting you down and the Spirits as well. Your abilities now…"
Arashi is aware that his power to control death is far from mature.
"I know… I can train up to make up some. But…"
"Woodman is suggesting that you are to be extracted away from them. We have programs for you as well."
Considering the risk he is posing to them, Arashi couldn't just be selfish, he knows he has to forsake this peaceful life.
"What if I decides to follow you guys? When will I leave?" he asked.
"12th December"
"Alright…"
Without hesitation, Arashi agrees to go with them. All he knows is that he has to keep harm from them. He knows that Nanoka must not be made known to Yuki as she will be hurt.
"From now on, you will be watched over by our agents, don't be too paranoid about it. Also, this VR simulation program, Mr Woodman instructs you to train up your weapon skills. A VR system will be sent to your apartment soon. And this phone is encrypted, we will be calling you with this phone. Do not let Kotori see this phone, most importantly, tell no one about this."
Arashi takes the things and Karen is about to go.
"Alright. You better be safe too."
"You too."
Arashi leaves the field and heads home immediately.
"I only have exactly 2 months…"
Anger and despair flood his mind as he longed for a peaceful life. He returned home without talking to anyone and lies onto his bed to sleep. Unknowingly, he started to cry as he realizes that he is about to lose things that are dear to him again.
Two days later
Arashi starts to train Mana and Shido in swords together with Yuki. While Shido still struggles for a bit, he is improving. He is amazed by how fast she improves overtime, he is relieved as he gets to complete something that he before he leaves.
The VR simulation program is actually a Wizards' marksmanship training program, with one to one real life physics simulation. Arashi learns how to use a gun and incorporate it into his fighting style, sword with pistol, wall running and gunning. He also learns sniping and to handle assault rifles.
He also starts to train up his Psychic powers at night while he is certain no one is following him, with surprising results.
"I always thought you can't channel death without souls. Apparently you can uses your own soul to deal some damage…"
Arashi channels his soul along with the death mana into his short sword and it slices a metal block clean like hot knife through butter.
After one month, he learns that his power has evolved, although unlike Nevermore, which was at his prime. He feels that it makes up quite a bit of his former powers, he couldn't ask for more. His also perfects his weapons handling and starts to spend more time with his friends, Yuki and dates Kaguya more often.
Five days before the extraction
The group is out to play as it is snowing. It is the Spirit's first time to spend winter like that, everyone is playing very happily by throwing snowballs at each other. Unknown to everyone else, Arashi is enjoying his last moments with them.
Afterwards, Arashi is with Kaguya as the two goes for a walk.
"Arashi… Is something wrong?" she asks.
"Huh?"
"You look like you are about to leave us…"
Kaguya's statement surprises Arashi as the Spirit guessed correctly.
"What? I'm not leaving you!" he retorted.
"Really?"
Kaguya is like Tohka, kind of airheaded at times. You can't blame them though, they had not interact with humans long enough to know about lies and deceptions. Arashi then grabs Kaguya's shoulders and look into her eyes.
"Yes… No matter what happen, be it from the light or the dark, I will be always protecting you… And, I love you…"
Arashi then lean forward, Kaguya then closes her eyes with Arashi. Their lips lock onto each other, enjoying the passionate kiss. The two then continue their walk as Arashi wish to be with Kaguya as long as possible.
Two days before the extraction
"So, are you ready for it?" Karen asks.
"Ever ready ma'am…"
"Good, we will be monitoring the situation. Extraction will be at 2pm, we'll let you know the location one hour prior to the designated time."
"Alright…"
As the time of extraction counting down to less than 48 hours. He couldn't help but to feel nervous.
"Arashi, we are out of drinks!"
Yuki was craving for canned chocolate drink and she runs out of it.
"Alright, I'm going out to get it."
In the house is Yuki along with Kaguya and Yuzuru, as Arashi leaves the house, the three have an inauspicious sense of Arashi. Arashi quickly leaves the apartment complex to the shop he always shop at which involves walking down an alley. He immediately noticed someone is following him. It is actually Nanoka himself is following Arashi now.
"Arashi… I am very disappointed in you…"
The stalker immediately sprints towards Arashi, whom Arashi senses his presence and draws his switchblade. Nanoka is armed with the devil's sword, Yamato, he first whacks Arashi right arm with the sheathed sword, inflicting some pain to Arashi. He immediately back down.
"This is… the new Fallen Spirit!" Arashi thought.
"Might controls everything… You chose to forsake it…"
Nanoka this time unsheathes his sword and splits the switchblade into half, shocking Arashi even further as he realizes Nanoka is wielding a Devil's Arm. Everything slow down in their eyes, Nanoka sheaths the sword back, incorporating an Iaido sword style.
"Without power, you can't protect anything…"
The Fallen Spirit unsheathes his sword again and sends snow splashing onto Arashi's eyes, blinding him temporarily. With this opening, he decides to end it.
"…Let alone… Yourself!"
He unsheathes the sword and runs pass Arashi, he sheaths Yamato back and it disappears into blue flames. Blood burst out of Arashi's chest as Yamato easily shatters all ribs and it reaches down his lungs, unknown to Nanoka, it barely misses the heart. He then approaches Arashi.
"Sayonara… Arashi…"
He then disappears into black smoke. Without darkness, Arashi can't heal, pain has wreck his body down, the blood is blurring his vision as he reaches out his hand.
"K… K… Kyo…"
The young man loses conscious, blood continues to flow out from the wound, leaving him to die slowly in the cold snow while dying it in blood red.
Yup, I have been hinting it, Kyo is the leader. More to be explored in The Invisible Wars. I encourage aspiring writers for DAL to have the discipline to complete your work.
