Surprisingly, Elise woke up clean and dry. She had expected, just like every night, to have a nightmare, but no, it didn't come. Without any word of protest from her mind and body, Elise sat up and looked over at the blurry digital clock. It said 5:30 AM. Perfect.
Elise got up swiftly, grabbed her things for the shower and walked down the hall with a straight back. This early morning felt different from the others; there was no feeling of insecurity and she definitely didn't feel watched. Why? Well, of course, she was walking down the halls completely invisible to any passerby. It wouldn't be Elise being watched, but the others. Sadly, it was to early for the others to wake, although there was another possibility of bumping into Spy, literally, if he was cloaked as well.
The RED Spy stopped in her tracks, hearing the same voice from her first day ricochet off the walls and into her ears. She hadn't heard this majestic voice since the first day, and hearing it now enticed her. It was as if the low vibrations of his voice lifted her off her feet and pulled her in the air. Elise stood straight in the doorway, confident that the completely nude Spy wouldn't hear her. The water continued to run, as well as the voice.
"Des nuits d'amour à plus finir," Spy sang, his voice hitting the walls harder in the bathroom than in the halls.
Elise undressed as quietly as she could, listening intently on Spy's deep vocals. She left her mask and wristwatch on for the last of the articles to be shed from her shivering body. Once she removed her mask, she tiptoed to the stall beside Spy's. Her padded feet caused the puddles to splash. Her stomach clenched tightly as she waited for his voice to sound again, just for reassurance that Spy didn't hear her. Instead of another line being sung, he laughed lowly, a satisfied, "ahh" slipping like silk.
"Un grand bonheur qui prend sa place," Spy continued to sing.
Relief washed over Elise as she took off the watch from her wrist and placed it on top of her pile of crumpled clothes. Spy's clothes on the bench were folded neatly, even the belt was rolled up properly. She turned towards the handle and the feeling of tension in her stomach returned. How would she turn on the tap without the metal crying in pain? She was now in a dilemma. Expose herself to get the watch or turn on the tap?
"You can turn on the shower if you would like. I'm hoping you know how to use it," Spy said, interrupting his humming.
Elise jumped and backed tightly into the corner of the stall. She covered her intimate parts, hoping that Spy wouldn't move into her stall. Her hand left her breasts and fumbled to turn the handle. But with one loud clockwise turn of the tap, the shower spurted to life. Elise decided to go under the showerhead, facing the open doorway.
"I do believe this is our first shower together, Spy," Spy said with a smile.
Silence.
"We're not in the same shower," Elise shot back.
"Would you like to be?" Spy teased.
"Don't push it, Spy."
Only the sounds of the water hitting the tiled floors could be heard in the empty bathroom.
"It's too quiet," Elise spoke up.
"Would you rather have a conversation?" Spy suggested.
"No. Definitely not."
"Then silence it is."
"No, I want you to sing," Elise said as she rubbed the shampoo in her hair. "Sing the song you were singing just now."
"Why?"
"Please, just do it Spy. It's... calming."
"Calming? What are you afraid of Spy?"
"Today. First days for anything are always terrifying."
Elise heard a snicker in the next stall.
"Spy?" Elise called out.
Spy's stall went silent after the squeak of the handle turned. Elise could hear footsteps. Then, whistling.
"Where are you going?" Elise panicked.
"I'm finished," Spy answered. "I recommend you stay in your stall."
"I'll only stay in my stall, if you don't enter."
"Promise."
"Will you sing?"
Spy hummed at first. As the humming got louder, Spy's voice started to show. Then, after a few minutes of that, he started to sing again.
"Des yeux qui font baisser les miens. Un rire qui se perd sur sa bouche. Voilà le portrait sans retouche. De l'homme auquel j'appartiens..."
"That song is meant to be sung from a woman's point of view... isn't it? I mean, your saying 'his' and 'man' in that line," Elise questioned.
Spy's baritone voice stopped, the patter of the water droplets replacing it.
"Spy? Are you still there?"
What Spy was going to do, actually, say, was going to give off a piece of his identity. But that wouldn't matter, would it? This woman was a new Spy, she wouldn't know what to do with the information that Spy was about to give her.
"It's my mother's song," Spy said before he walked out of the bathroom.
Elise looked down at her feet, knowing that Spy was already gone.
"Alright, ladies," Soldier growled in the faces of the men, and lady. "I want us to win again! We are RED, nothing can stop us! We are the ones who will dominate today! Do I make myself clear?!"
"Sure," Scout answered.
Heavy looked down at his German companion, and slapped his shoulder when he started to doze off.
"Huh, what?" Medic said, shocked from the sudden contact.
"Let's get out there and win!"
The men nodded and headed for the weapon cache, just outside of the respawn room. Elise was absolutely clueless and just followed Spy. Medic, on the other hand, seemed just as lost as Elise. He pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head vigorously, trying hard to shake off the sleepiness in his head.
"Where is everyone going?" Elise asked Spy loudly as the thump of boots hit the stairs.
"Getting their weapons in the weapon cache. Then, we're off to the battlements, after the countdown, of course."
Soldier opened a door with the RED company name painted on it. It was faded from the bright light shining on it, it was also scratched from the many years from uncaring hands.
The men filed into a brightly lit white room, the RED symbol also painted onto the wall. The men went off to their separate wooden shelves and got their weapons. Elise assumed that this is what they used as lockers, except there was no door to secure their belongings. It really looked like a bookshelf put on its side.
Spy went to a box at the very end, right beside Sniper's. Elise followed.
"Spy, I don't have one." Elise tapped Spy's right shoulder. "Where do I keep my things?"
"What things?" Spy said as he placed a red fedora on his head.
Elise's eyes widened. "Wow, fancy."
"Once you've gotten your cheque, you'll be able to buy your own little personalized items. Usually, Miss Pauling stops by to drop off the RED catalogue. There, we check off what we want, give it to her when she comes back, blah blah blah. You get the idea," Spy said. He looked at Elise, then back to his locker. "I assume we will be sharing a space until they upgrade these fallen bookshelves."
"That's exactly what I thought they were," Elise laughed.
"Hey, good luck out there, Spy," Engineer said behind Elise.
"I don't need it," Spy responded.
Engineer's upper lip lifted, a growl escaping. "I wasn't talking to you Spy. I was talking to our new Spy."
"Thanks, Engineer," Elise answered without turning around. She joined Spy in the large group of men, her palms sweating and the gloves absorbing.
"Elise," Medic whispered in her ear.
Elise was tempted to turn around and punch the Medic in his face. "What do you want, German?" she hissed.
Spy's ears perked, and his eyes widened. His mouth fell open slightly, his cigarette almost falling out.
Medic tilted his head like a confused puppy. "Good luck?" he slurred.
"Whatever," Elise brushed off the comment.
Medic's mouth hung open as he stared at Elise's back. Sniper put a hand on the Medic's shoulder, turning him so he could face his golden reflection.
"Don't listen to her, Medic." Sniper patted his shoulder. "Good luck."
Medic's eyebrows furrowed, as he tried to remember if he did something wrong the other day before he... overdosed. Had he done something when he was in the affects of the painkillers? Had she heard him say something about her that he didn't mean? Oh, Medic's love life wasn't in his favour at all.
Elise jumped when a speaker sparked to life. The dried out voice of the Administrator brought back the anger that she felt when she first joined.
"The match will begin in ten seconds!"
Spy's voice buzzed in Elise's covered ear. "Stick by me for a while."
"Okay."
"3..."
"We got this!" Scout encouraged his teammates. "It's time for RED to fuck over the BLU's again!"
"2..."
"Ugh," Medic groaned as he slapped himself with a rubber gloved hand. Sniper and Heavy stared at the German with raised eyebrows.
"1..."
Soldier's war cry surprised Elise, causing her to scream loudly.
"START FIGHTING NOW!"
The metal gates opened, the men running out, all crying out for battle. As for Elise, she was dragged out by Spy.
Hey guys! It's me again, of course. :P
This chapter was just a bit of a filler, because I don't have the time to write the actual battle scene(s). Why? Well, that's none of your damn business. I'm kidding.
I'll be away for two weeks, sadly, with absolutely no internet connection. So, what does that mean? No Fanfiction, no Wattpad, no Youtube, no nothing that has to do with the internet.
I'm sorry guys, I feel terrible. :(
But don't be too upset! Because (hopefully) while I'm away, I'll bring a little booklet with me. I'll write the chapters in there and when I come back home, I'll copy them onto here. So when I come back, there may or may not be a flow of chapters coming out.
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. I'm sorry it couldn't have been longer and more epic than you expected.
Hugs and Kisses! :)
