A/N: More snowy fun! Thanks to everyone reading this and I am really sorry that it has taken so long to post more chapters. Anywho…what's winter without a good snowball fight, right? So that's what's coming up next.
Also, I'm trying to include a Final Fantasy character in most of my chapters because those are my two most favorite. It's what most of my stories revolve around right now. If anyone has suggestions for any particular character they'd like to see, just let me know and I will find a way to incorporate them into my storyline.
So as before, I don't own the rights to any of these characters, Disney/Square Enix does. Enjoy 3
Chapter 7: Snowball Fight
Xigbar & Xaldin
As soon as he felt the icy ball hit the side of his face, Xigbar grinned and picked up one of the pre-made balls on the ground. He wrapped his black gloves around the ball to pack it tighter. He held the ball above his head as he turned, aiming to smack Xaldin with it. The shock of what he found staring back at him made his jaw drop.
"Get him!" Xaldin's voice was loud as he stood behind a small army of children.
"What?" Xigbar dropped his snowball and opted to use his hands as shields as a flurry of snowballs begin to smack him from every angle. "No fair Xaldin!"
Xigbar tried to duck from the constant impact of the snowballs as they hit him, and the sounds of laughter rang all around him.
"You have the kids helping, that's not fair!"
"Okay guys, that's enough" Xaldin said with a laugh and watched as eight little faces all smiled and laughed along with him.
"Uncle Xaldin said you guys were gonna have a snowball fight" Xigbar recognized the little girl as Marlene as she stepped forward.
"Yeah, and we wanted to join" The next was Denzel, he still held an already made snowball in his gloved hand.
Xigbar stood and began to wipe the chucks of snow that still clung to his cloak. He shook his head in the direction of Xaldin and watched as he simply shrugged his shoulders with a wide smile on his face.
"You wanted more people to join" Xaldin said as he pointed around to the children who were all dressed in their snow gear.
"Okay" Xigbar looked around as he adjusted his eye patch to fit more comfortably, considering the fact that one of the snowballs had hit him smack in the face. "But I think, we should be on teams"
"Yeah" All the children yelled in chorus as they jumped around.
Xigbar walked towards the group as they continued to bounce. "Is everyone here?"
"Yep" Xaldin nodded.
"Alright lets see, who do I want on my team?" Xigbar placed his hand on his chin and watched as eight sets of eyes darted back and forth between the two adults.
"I wanna be on your team uncle Xiggy!" Denzel ran forward and stood next to Xigbar.
Marlene glanced back and forth a few more times, her braid swinging slightly as she turned her head. "I want me and Via to be on uncle Xaldi's team!" Marlene squealed as she grabbed the hand of the small brunette girl standing next to her and pulled her along to stand next to Xaldin.
The other girl, Olivia, but lovingly given the nickname Via by all her friends, smiled as she nodded her head and held tight to Marlene's hand. Her bright blue eyes were reflected in the sun as her dark purple scarf danced around her neck.
"Zeke, over here" Denzel called out to one of the taller boys. His long brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail and he blinked his light chocolate eyes a few times before he nodded and jogged towards his team.
Xaldin looked at Marlene and Via. "Who else do we want?"
The girls leaned close together and giggled as the decided. "We want Genevieve and Derek" Via pointed at the two with a smile.
All of the children knew that Genevieve and Derek had crushes on each other, which was perfectly natural considering they were the oldest of the group. Derek looked over to where Genevieve stood in her pink coat with her light blue eyes locked onto his forest green eyes. Her blonde hair was French braided in two ponytails and she ran a hand up her head and tugged at one nervously.
"What'd ya say Geni?" Derek asked as he held his hand out.
Genevieve felt her cheeks warm slightly as she nodded once and wrapped her gloved hand with Derek's. She could hear the giggles around her as they stepped over to join the rest of their team.
"That means, Annie and Lucas, you're with us" Xigbar said with a smile and held a hand up for a high five.
The first to return the high five was Lucas. His blonde hair was light in the sun as he shook his bangs from his eyes. His blue eyes looked up and met Xigbar with a smile. He stood next to Denzel and received another high five.
Xigbar bent slightly so that Annie, who was a little shorter than Lucas could reach his hand for a high five. Her red hair was pulled up into a pretty bun on the top of her head as her green eyes seemed to light up from the series of freckles that surrounded her cheeks.
Both teams stood opposite each other as they eyed one another. They moved to stand around the little snow walls that were already built. Each one of them held a perfectly shaped snowball in their hand, ready for action. The only thing still lingering, was who was going to be the first to throw in this battle.
Without a warning, little Via hurled her snowball towards Lucas as she yelled "Fire!"
That's all it took. As the white ball smacked Lucas in the side of the head, he scoffed and stared wide eyed at Via who was smirking as she bent quickly to make another snowball.
"Oh, I see how it is!" Lucas shook his head a few times and began to return fire.
It was no time at all before snowballs were flying back and forth. The children giggled as they ducked to avoid being hit and occasionally yelled out in what sounded like a warrior type of battle cry as they continued to scoop up the fluffy white snow around them and hurl it across the lawn.
"Ah!" Genevieve screamed as a snowball hit her in the middle of the face.
"Opps" she looked up to see Zeke grinning at her.
"Are you alright?" Derek was standing next to her holding a large ball of snow.
"Yeah" Genevieve wiped the snow from her face and grabbed the snowball from Derek's hand. "I'm fine. Hey Zeke!" she yelled as she ran forward with the large snowball.
"Oh, crap!" Zeke shouted as he bolted past Denzel.
Xigbar and Xaldin were so focused on watching all the children pummel each other in snow, that they had forgotten they were on the teams too.
"Ha!" Xaldin turned just at the wrong time as Annie smacked him in the face with a snowball. "Got'cha!" she giggled.
Xaldin wiped his hand quick down his face as he smiled towards Annie. "Oh, you think so?" his grinned widened as he watched her gasp and take off running.
"Save me guys!" Annie ran towards her group.
"Uh oh!" Xaldin stopped as he realized he was running right into a trap.
His eyes looked up just fast enough to see Xigbar grin as he bounced a snowball in his hand.
"Get him!" Xigbar yelled as Xaldin tried to turn. Denzel, Lucas and Annie let out a battle cry as they ran forward and threw their snowballs.
"Uncle Xaldin!"
Xaldin looked up with a smile to see Marlene, Via and Derek running towards him with snowballs raised.
"Attack!" Marlene screamed as she hauled a snowball towards Denzel.
Derek looked around as he tried to find Genevieve. It took him only a moment to spot the bright pink coat in the snow as she sat atop of a struggling Zeke.
"Gen?" Derek yelled once as he began to jog towards the two.
Genevieve had managed to smack Zeke in the back of the head with the large snowball and the force made him loose his balance. He fell face first in the snow, where she took the advantage to jump on top of him as he tried to roll over. She was currently in the process of trying to shove a pile of snow that she held, into his face.
"That's not fair Genevieve!" Zeke kicked his feet as he tried to free himself.
"Neither is hitting me in the face!" she said with a grunt as she tried to rub the snow over his red face.
Derek reached the two in time to hear the argument and stopped behind Genevieve. He was debating whether or not it was a good idea to just try and grab her from behind, or maybe try talking to her.
"Gen." he laid a hand on one of her shoulders.
"Not now Derek!" she yelled as she continued to rub snow in Zeke's face.
Derek could see the frustration on Zeke's face as he panted and struggled. He knew he had to intervene. "Gen, he's had enough!" He made sure his voice was stern as he reached to grab around her waist.
As Derek pulled her up, she flailed her feet wildly and Zeke had to move quick to avoid meeting contact with one of her boots. He rolled to the side and shook some of the snow from is face.
"Derek!" Genevieve screamed "Put me down!" she continued to flail around as Derek tightened his grip around her.
"What's going on?"
Genevieve stopped struggling as they all turned their heads towards the voice.
Xigbar was standing with his arms crossed as Xaldin was walking towards him with the rest of the group in toe. Derek let go of Genevieve and made sure she had her feet on the ground.
"Gen whitewashed Zeke" Derek said in a nonchalant voice as they watched the group look between the two. Zeke was starting to stand and wipe the snow from his dark clothes.
"Why where you yelling though?" Xaldin asked as he stood next to Xigbar.
"They always yell at each other" Marlene said as she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms so she mirrored the two men standing behind her.
Xaldin and Xigbar exchanged glances and nodded at each other a few times.
"Maybe we should stop"
"But why?" Denzel asked from where he stood next to the two grown men.
They looked up and watched as Genevieve dusted her hands over her coat to remove the remaining snow. Once she had finished she put her hands on her hips and stared back at the group.
"Because it's too close to Christmas for you guys to be being mean to each other" Xaldin said as he looked at the disappointment growing on the children's faces.
"Plus, it's getting cold" Xigbar said "Maybe we should take a break so you guys can warm up"
"I'm not cold" Via said from next to Marlene.
"Me either" Lucas said afterwards.
Xaldin reached down and placed one of her hands on each of the children's cheeks. "Ah, but the red in your cheeks tells me otherwise."
Via and Lucas both put a hand over Xaldin's as they smiled at him.
"C'mon, let's go have some hot chocolate" Xigbar said as he started to turn around.
"Yay, hot chocolate!" All of the children screamed as they started to run to the Castle.
They had just reached the large stone steps and started to climb when Xigbar heard a female voice chime behind him.
"There you guys are! Over here Yuni!"
Xigbar and Xaldin both turned their heads to watch as a girl with blonde hair that several braids tucked around her winter cap, came jogging towards them.
"Hello Rikku" Xaldin waved
"Are the children in trouble?" Xigbar asked as he placed a hand on Marlene's shoulder.
Rikku stopped at the bottom of the steps and held her hand up to shield the glare of the sun. "No, they're not in trouble" she started walking up a few steps as another young girl walked around the corner. "We just need them to come home. Cloud and Tifa have a surprise for them" Rikku said with a smile as she gestured for the children to walk towards her.
"But we were gonna have hot chocolate" Annie started to whine as she walked down the steps.
"We have hot chocolate waiting to go with your surprise!" The other girl wearing a light blue snow coat said with a smile as she reached the bottom of the steps.
As the children all began to move down the steps, the younger ones took the hands of one of the two girls.
"What's the surprise Yuna?" Via asked as she wrapped her gloved hand around Yuna's.
"Well, if I told you…then it wouldn't a surprise, now would it?" Yuna asked as she tapped a finger on the end of Via's nose.
The small brunette giggled before she turned to wave goodbye.
"Thanks for playing with us guys!" Xaldin waved from the top step as he watched the small group start to leave.
"Bye uncle Xiggy, bye uncle Xaldi!" several of the children called as they turned their heads to wave back. Genevieve and Derek were holding hands and talking with their heads close as they walked behind everyone else.
"Boy, she's a handful" Xigbar whispered as he leaned towards Xaldin.
"Yeah" Xaldin nodded as he lowered his hand and watched the group fade from sight "But, they're all worth it"
He smiled over at the man standing next to him and watched as he simply smiled back and nodded.
"So" Xigbar drew the word out "Call it a draw?" he held his hand out.
Xaldin looked down at his hand and sighed once before he leaned over and pressed his lips over Xigbar's. The kiss was quick but sweet.
As Xaldin pulled his face away, there was a wide smile on his lips. "Works for me" he dropped his hand and let his fingers find those of Xigbar's. "C'mon, lets go get that hot chocolate"
Xigbar nodded with a smile as Xaldin turned and placed his hand on the door handle. "And perhaps a movie?"
"Sounds great to me" Xaldin said with a slight chuckle.
They had entered the warmth of the Castle and the earthy smells of the fire and pine where heavy in the air. Xigbar stepped in and pushed the door closed behind him. He watched as Xaldin began to pull his gloves off and then bend to loosen the strings on his boots. He was about to ask what time it was and if everyone was awake yet, when there was suddenly a huge blasting sound beneath their feet as the floor trembled slightly.
"What the…?" Xigbar looked up to see the shock on Xaldin's face before he turned to run towards the sounds, disclaiming the fact that he was still wearing all his winter gear.
A/N: So any guesses on what the noise was? I'm curious to see if anyone will post any ideas. Also, a very special side note, the character of Olivia is based on my daughter. I tried to incorporate a little of her personality and all of her looks. She is the love of my life and I really wanted a way to have her in one of my stories.
I also didn't put too much fluff in this chapter, cause you really can't expect two grown men to just make-out in front of a bunch of kids. But don't worry, there is a lot more fluff to come. Thanks so much for reading, I hope to have the next chapter up soon.
