Hi guys! Thanks for the reviews on the last chapter. Like I said when I posted the newest chapter of my other story, I'm sorry it took me so long, I'm out of town with limited internet access, but I'll be back on the 9th. This isn't my favorite episode, but I did include the Finchel duet that got cut! Hope you enjoy and review if I should keep going!

Chapter 59: The Spanish Teacher

The weekend after Rachel and Finn officially got engaged, she had Kurt and Mercedes over for a sleepover. Kurt was lonely with Blaine in the hospital, and Mercedes was struggling with her feelings for Sam, so Rachel thought they could both use a break. Mercedes had wanted to watch Twilight, so the three of them sat down in Rachel's room to watch the movie. "How is the girl with no ass supposed to choose between the juiced-up wolf and the depressed vampire?" Mercedes asked. "She's into both of them."

Rachel hadn't seen this movie much before, so she just thought of herself and Finn. "Oh, come on, Mercedes. She just knows."

"But what if they both make her feel amazing in different ways?" Mercedes asked.

Rachel knew that Sam was the one for Mercedes, but felt like Mercedes should be the one to make that decision. "Well, you don't get to choose when it comes to true love. True love chooses you. And you better be certain when it comes to marriage because marriage is promise, and it lasts for forever."

Kurt gave the girls a suspicious look. "Ladies, I appreciate you spending time with me while Blaine recovers, but why are you being so weird and serious? Our periods don't come until the end of the month."

Rachel had wanted to tell people about her and Finn, but she was afraid to, especially after how Quinn had reacted. But Kurt and Mercedes weren't Quinn. "Can you guys keep a secret?" She turned off the TV and pulled out her necklace, revealing her ring.

"Rachel, what the hell is that?" Mercedes asked.

"It's an engagement ring," Rachel said proudly.

Kurt looked like he didn't believe her. "Shut up!"

"Finn proposed," Rachel confirmed.

"And what did you say?" Mercedes asked.

"I said yes," Rachel said.

"Rachel, have you lost your damn mind?" Mercedes asked.

Why was everyone acting like this was so bad? "But I love Finn. I really, really love him."

"But what about NYADA?" Kurt asked.

Rachel was so tired of everyone thinking her life should revolve around NYADA, Broadway and performing. "It's still going to happen. I have dreams for a huge life for myself, okay, some of which include, you know, a little bit of struggle until I can make all of my dreams come true. They'll be great anecdotes for the Jimmy Kimmel show. I'll call them my Top Ramen weeks. But in every single one of my dreams... okay, struggling or not... there he is. Finn. Look, I know that I am going to be with Finn for the rest of my life, just as much as I know that I am going to be a huge star one day. So you promise not to tell anyone?"

"Okay, I'm going home right now to yell at Finn, because this is insane," Kurt declared.

"That is not fair, Kurt. I mean, what would you do if Blaine proposed to you today?" Rachel asked. When Kurt said nothing, she knew that he would do the same thing she'd done. So he couldn't judge her. "So will you please keep my secret?"

"Aren't you scared you're making the wrong choice?" Mercedes asked.

"Look, I know that I have the right person," Rachel said. "Scary part was just choosing to know it."

"Why aren't you telling people then?" Kurt asked.

"Because of how you guys just reacted," Rachel said. "I don't want people to go around reacting like that. I don't want people to judge me and make me feel bad about something I want to do."

"We're young," Mercedes said.

"I know we are, but I also know that Finn's the one for me," Rachel said. "And before you say anything about NYADA and Broadway and being a star, I'm so tired of everyone defining me by that. People were mean to me from the early grades on because of my passion for Broadway. I'm more than that and sometimes it feels like no one, not even my closest friends, can see that! I'm young, I could end up doing something else with my life. My dads had me in singing and dancing and acting lessons from the time I could move and talk. It's not like I was ever even given a chance to try anything else..." It felt good to finally get the rant out, but Rachel noticed that Kurt and Mercedes were looking behind her. There he was. Finn. How much had he heard? At least Rachel had slipped her necklace back under her shirt.

"Hi Finn," Rachel said. "What are you doing here?"

"I left my math textbook here when I was over earlier," Finn said. "I was just coming to pick it up." Rachel could tell by the look on Finn's face that he'd at least heard some of her rant. Since her dads were out of town on business, Finn had probably just let himself in with the copy of the house key Rachel made for him.

"So, what's new with you, Finn?" Kurt asked.

"I just saw you at school today," Finn said, looking confused. "I helped Sam out with his performance for the Spanish assignment in glee club this week. All the guys are singing backup. I'll be drumming and everyone else will be a backup dancer. Sam was hoping you could join us, Kurt."

"You guys always wear lame costumes for the guys performances," Kurt said.

Finn handed Kurt a picture of some boots. "We're going to wear these."

Kurt's face lit up. "I'm in!"

"Great," Finn said. "I'll tell Sam, and you can practice with us tomorrow."

"What song are you guys doing?" Mercedes asked.

"You'll have to find out," Finn said.

"Well, thanks for stopping by," Rachel said, giving Finn a quick kiss. "I love you."

"I love you too," Finn said. He gave Rachel a hug before leaving.

"Okay, Rachel, that wasn't like you," Kurt said when Finn was gone. "What was that all about?"

"I'm tired of people acting like Finn's not good enough for me," Rachel admitted. "In case you guys can't remember, I dated a guy who was aiming for a Broadway career once before and I didn't like the person I became. When I'm with Finn, I like who I am. I like how he makes me feel." With that, she picked up the remote control. "Let's get back to our movie." She was tired of arguing with people about this.

In glee club on Monday, Finn played the drums and sang backup for Sam's song for the Spanish assignment in glee club, just as he'd planned.

Sam with New Directions Boys: Bebele, bembele, bembele
Bebele, bembele, bembele
Bamboleo, bambolea
Porque mi vida, yo la prefiero vivir así
Bamboleo, bambolea
Porque mi vida, yo la prefiero vivir así
Sam: Would you dance
If I asked you to dance?
Would you run
And never look back?
Would you cry
If you saw me crying?
And would you save my soul, tonight?
Sam with New Directions Boys (New Directions Boys): I can be your hero, baby (Aaah!)
I can kiss away the pain (Aaah!)
I would stand by you forever (Aaah!)
You can take my breath away
I can be your hero

As they performed, Finn noticed the looks Sam and Mercedes gave each other, being reminded of him and Rachel. He hoped things would work out for them. Speaking of Rachel, he had a song for the Spanish assignment in mind for her, too. After glee club he'd tell her about it.

When the guys finished their number, Mr. Schue looked impressed. "Guys, that was some muy serious footwork! Muy means very."

"I was in it mostly for the boots," Kurt announced.

"Yeah, what's the deal with those boots?" Mr. Schue asked. "Because wow."

"They're Mexican hipster boots," Finn explained. "It's kind of like a fad for groups of guys that are into dance music, and we're kind of like a dance crew. Señor Martinez told us about it."

"The teeth, the duende, the bizarre Mexican fads," Santana raved. "Señor Martinez is, like, the best Spanish teacher ever. I can't wait to see your performance, Mr. Schue."

"My performance?" Mr. Schue asked.

"Yeah, to defend your Spanish teacher honor," Santana said. "I'm sure you have something muy amazing planned."

"Can Rachel and I do a song for the assignment tomorrow?" Finn asked.

"Of course," Mr. Schue said.

As Finn and Rachel left glee club, Rachel looked at Finn. "What song did you have in mind for us?"

"Besame Mucho," Finn told Rachel.

"I actually don't know that song, but I bet it's great," Rachel said.

"Yeah," Finn agreed. "So, are you okay?" When he'd gone to Rachel's house to pick up his math textbook, he'd heard her sounding upset while talking with Kurt and Mercedes.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" Rachel asked.

Finn figured he might as well tell her. "When I went to pick up my textbook, you sounded upset."

"I'm just stressed about what's going to happen after graduation," Rachel said. "What'll happen to me, where I'll get in, things like that."

"Yeah, me too," Finn said. "You made it to the NYADA finals. That's something, right?"

"Yeah, it is," Rachel said.

"It's a big accomplishment," Finn said. "Like we were just talking about, no matter what, we'll figure something out."

Finn had picked out a great song for him and Rachel to do for their duet. As they performed it in glee club the next day, Rachel couldn't help but think about how much she wished she could tell him why she was upset when he'd overheard her talking to Kurt and Mercedes over the weekend. But she was worried if she told him too much, he'd figure out that she told them. She tried to focus on their duet, but her mind was elsewhere.

Finn: Besame,
besame mucho
como si fuera ésta noche
la última vez
Rachel: Besame, besame mucho
que tengo miedo a perderte
perderte después
Finn: Besame,
besame mucho
como si fuera ésta noche
la última vez
Rachel: Besame, besame mucho
que tengo miedo a perderte
perderte después
Both: Quiero tenerte muy cerca
mirarme en tus ojos
verte junto a mi
Piensa que tal vez mañana
yo ya estaré lejos,
muy lejos de ti
Finn: Besame,
besame mucho
como si fuera ésta noche
la última vez
Rachel: Besame, besame mucho
que tengo miedo a perderte
perderte después
Finn and Rachel: Besame,
besame mucho
que tengo miedo a perderte
perderte despues
que tengo miedo a perderte
perderte despues...

"Great song, you guys," Mr. Schue said at the end of the song. "Any reason you chose it?"

"We just both really like it," Finn said.

"Yeah," Rachel added. But she could tell by the looks on the faces of the people she'd told that they knew why they chose it.

After glee club, Finn went to the weight room to lift some weights. Shortly after he arrived, he saw Kurt coming in. "Hey, dude. You want to lift some?"

"No, thanks," Kurt said. "I've never really understood the whole process. Plus, I do The Tracey Anderson Method in the comfort and privacy of my own bedroom." He reached into his bag and handed Finn some papers. "Why don't you pick up these? They're from Mrs. Pillsbury."

Finn began looking at what Kurt handed him. "College brochures. What do you got? Fordham, NYU, Adelphi."

"That one's in Long Island," Kurt explained. "Yeah, there's a train station right next to the campus right into Manhattan. I think they have a football team. I think they all have musical theater programs, too."

Finn still wasn't sure if he could handle college. "That's sweet, dude, but you know, college isn't for everyone."

"Neither is marriage," Kurt shot back.

Now Finn knew. That was why Rachel had been so upset the other night. "I can't believe she told you."

Kurt looked hurt. "I can't believe you didn't. We're supposed to be brothers."

Finn realized Kurt had a point. "Look, I didn't want to put you in an awkward position with Burt, okay? I don't want him to know yet."

"Hey, you think something you have to keep from everyone you love might not be the best idea in the first place?" Kurt asked.

Finn groaned. "Don't get down on me about this, dude. Rachel's, like, the only good thing I've got going in my life right now."

"No, she isn't, Finn," Kurt said. "Look, I get you've had a rough year with finding out who your dad really is and losing the scholarship, but you're a star, Finn, just as bright as Rachel. You just don't believe in yourself."

"Yeah, well, the proof's in the pudding, okay? And my pudding pretty much sucks," Finn complained.

"Look, I'm not telling you that you shouldn't marry Rachel," Kurt said. "I love her despite all of her crazy, and I think that you'd be lucky to marry her... one day. But I don't want you just to turn yourself into nothing but the guy who holds her purse on the red carpet."

"Look, I'm getting to the point in my life where I kind of need to be honest with myself about who I am," Finn said.

"And who is that?" Kurt asked.

Finn was still figuring his life out. "Not you. Not Rachel."

"That's the point, Finn," Kurt continued. "There are plenty of us, trust me. The one thing that Glee Clubs and theater programs don't have is the hot, straight football player who can sing and sort of dance. You're unique, Finn. And I can't see this proposal thing as anything else but you giving up on yourself."

Was Finn giving up on himself? "No, no, it's not. At least I don't think it is."

"Your time isn't up, Finn. It's just beginning," Kurt assured Finn.

It did feel good to know that Kurt believed in Finn. As Kurt started to leave, Finn called out. "Hey, Kurt. Thanks."
