Back at Fablehaven
"She just left!" Scott exclaimed when Seth recapped the events at the pond.
"Yeah." Seth said.
"Oh no." Marla said.
"She'll only be gone for five and a half months." Seth said but it didn't console her.
Grandma got a call on her cellphone.
"Yes...That's great...Alright, I'll send Dale." Grandma said. "That was your grandfather, he says he's at the gate and they've found an eternal."
"Who is it?" Seth asked.
"We'll find out soon."
"Dale can you open the gate please?" Grandma asked.
"Of course." Dale said. walking outside and returning a few minutes later with Warren, Vanessa, Tanu, Stan, Hank and a tall teenager with olive skin, messy black hair and wide seafoam green eyes.
"This is Reylen Xenakis." Warren said.
"Would you like to tell us a few things about yourself?" Stan asked.
"Oh, um...I'm Reylen, I was born at the Chrysos Potami preserve in Greece which is Greek for Golden river and I drank from the river which let me call the powers of the Greek gods and I want to be an eternal because the Fates told me to." Reylen said.
"Can we see the gods thing?" Seth asked.
"Uh, sure." Reylen said.
He chanted something and turned invisible then appeared two feet from where he was before.
"Cool!" Seth exclaimed. "I could never do that with just shadewalking."
"Where are the others?" Grandma Larsen asked.
"Finding them isn't easy." Warren said. "Agad used the Oculus to find suitable candidates but most of them are hard to get a hold of."
"Well, Reylen we are happy to have you here." Grandma said.
"I'm happy to be here." Reylen replied.
"Now when is lunch?" Seth asked hoping to delay the impending conversation about Kendra.
"I'll get right to it." Grandma said.
In the Fairy Realm
When Kendra woke up she smiled at the memory of last nights events before jumping out of bed, showering, putting on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt and going downstairs where Walt had made her french toast dusted with powdered coral. which tasted better than you would think.
"How did you sleep?" Walt asked cleaning up the kitchen supplies.
"Perfectly." Kendra answered.
"That's great."
"Why?"
"I wanted to know if you'd like to go swimming at the Mermaid Waters?" Walt inquired.
"It sounds fun but I promised Bracken I'd go to the castle with him." Kendra said. "I'm so sorry."
"Oh you don't wanna miss going to the palace." Walt said. "That's a huge deal. I've only been there when we needed to move out of the old Fairy Realm."
"I'm really sorry Walt." Kendra said.
"It's no big deal." Walt assured her.
"Are you sure, because I can reschedule-" Kendra started.
"No!" Walt interrupted "You don't wanna do that going to the palace is a big deal."
"Alright." Kendra said as a knock came at the door and Balik rushed from the study to get it.
"Hello Kendra." Bracken said as he walked into the dining room.
"Hi Bracken." Kendra said.
"Are you ready to go?" Bracken asked.
"Yes." Kendra said standing up.
"Bye Kendra." Walt said.
"Bye Walt." Kendra said.
Kendra walked outside with Bracken and over to the huge castle where two unicorns stood at the entrance. The unicorns eyes glowed white and they moved out of the way of the open door.
"Is there any place in particular you want to go?" Bracken asked.
"No." Kendra said.
"Well let's start with the gallery." Bracken said leading down the hall, up a flight of stairs, around a circular corridor and into a tall oak door.
The room had white walls, carved oak floors and paintings everywhere, even on the ceilings.
"Whoa." Kendra said as she marveled at a painting of dryads dancing in a forest.
"Magnificent, isn't it." Bracken said. "My favorite is the enchanted one over there."
Kendra looked in the direction Bracken was pointing to and saw a painting of fairies flying around a magenta and yellow dahlia where the fairies actually moving as if they were outside a window.
"How is it moving?" Kendra asked.
"A motility spell." Bracken said.
"A what?" Kendra asked.
"This." Bracken said taking out his second horn.
Bracken held out his horn and pointed at a painting of a mermaid swimming on the back of a dolphin under the light of the full moon. When the tip of his horn started glowing the mermaid, dolphin, shoal of clown fish and water started moving. The mermaid and dolphin's tails sliced gracefully through the water, the shoal swam in patterns, the water rippled, the moonlight shone and a shark appeared causing the shoal to scatter in retreat.
"That's amazing." Kendra said.
"Thank you." Bracken said lowering his horn which caused the painting to freeze.
"Hello." a regal voice said.
"Hello Golau." Bracken said.
"Have you shown her the training room yet." Golau asked.
"No. She'll see it many times during her stay here." Bracken said.
"What do you plan to do?" Golau asked as if she knew the answer.
"We'll go to the library then the Satyr's Circle." Bracken said.
"You'd be wise to heed what mother says." Golau warned as she flew into a painting before Bracken could retort.
"What was that about." Kendra asked.
"Nothing." Bracken said.
"Is there something wrong with me being here?" Kendra asked.
"No, not at all." Bracken said.
"Then what is it?
"I'm not supposed to go anywhere outside of the Fairy Kingdom without an invitation."
"Why?"
"Because a lot of the outside regions prefer to stay private."
"Then let's just stay in the Fairy Kingdom."
"Are you sure? There aren't many fun places in the Fairy Kingdom."
"Well why don't we go into a painting like Golau did?"
"Jumping into paintings is dangerous and difficult."
"Can you teach me?"
"Alright. Just walk into it without hesitation."
"Ok." Kendra said.
Kendra walked quickly and purposefully into a floor length painting of a Haliae whose dress was an chrystal clear ocean but only bumped into the canvas.
"Are you alright?" Bracken said rushing to Kendra's side.
"Yeah." Kendra said.
"Let's go go to the park." Bracken said.
"Yeah." Kendra said.
Villan's Perspective
Gasil, Lleider wyneb and Deglulyf handed their keys to Queen Senkrad.
"Where is yours Gwenwynig?" Senkrad asked.
"I was not able to retrieve it." Gwenwynig said.
"Why is that?" Senkrad asked.
"I was foolish." Gwenwynig said.
"And you lost my only dragon, my only grim and three cocytaie." Senkrad clarified.
"Yes my lady." Gwenwynig said.
"Well then. AGRI!" Senkrad yelled.
Gwenwynig fell to the ground and screamed in pain.
"Olmek!" Senkrad yelled after a few minutes and Gwenwynig started choking until she was dead.
The rest of the Gard Frenhines watched in horror, knowing full well that's what would happen to them if they ever failed the queen.
"Now Lleider wyneb, Gasil go to the Amazons and steal that key!" Senkrad ordered.
"Yes Mistress." They said in unison and then they turned and sprinted for the door.
"Deglulyf go tell my gwehyddion to make a dress that inspires fear in the hearts of everyone that sees me." Senkrad said.
"Of course." Deglulyf said and he rushed out of the door as well.
