CHAPTER 16

SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT

"Why am I afraid to lose you, when you aren't even mine?"

Kole was not Kole. Really, she wasn't even aware of her existence because in the harsh reality (for now that is) Jericho was her. And he would be lying if he thought it not weird that he was doing this. Jericho had only wanted answers, that was all.

But now, it was even more of a harsher reality that Kole knew of his father.

They knew where poor Jericho had lived before he'd ever become affiliated with the Titans, before his father had even gone under the aliases: Slade. It was all horrible.

"They know who my father is," Jericho (Kole) kept saying. "They know who he is."

He sat down on the grass and kept on saying this for like twelve minutes until he came to his senses. He let Kole have her body back, and he couldn't even look her in the eye. He felt ashamed.

After recovering from the dizziness Kole felt, she saw Jericho. She rubbed her eyes and walked to where he was and sat down beside him. He'd been playing his guitar, just sitting there and strumming. The melody sounded like "Don't Dream it's Over" by Crowded House.

"I'm sorry, Jericho," is the first thing she said to him that sounded genuine. "I really am, and you may be wondering why I am apologising."

He looked at her and smiled. Not saying anything, his smile said "go on."

She took a deep breath before continuing. "I'm sorry for not talking to you for so long. We haven't even acted like friends. Wait, it is I, who hasn't been acting like a friend."

Jericho didn't know how to respond to that apology. Therefore he sat down his guitar and signed, it's o. K., I apologise too, because I hadn't been open to you like a normal friend should. I didn't tell you that I liked, and was dating Raven. I'm sorry.

Kole resisted frowning, and tearing up. She nodded and said, "play me a song. My favourite song. you know the one." She nudged him and looked at him lovingly. 'Smile'? He signed.

"Yeah, 'Smile', by Charlie Chaplin..."

Sang by Nat King Cole, he signed. The guitarist then picked up his preferred instrument and began to strum.

Kole began to sing, and she sang with a lot of emotion too. She sang it so soft and mellow, if you were sitting there hearing her singing you would've cried or teared up. Jericho wanted to, but he didnt.

This song really did speak to her. Especially the lines: Although a tear may be ever so near, That's the time you must keep on trying, Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile...if you just smile..."

Jinx refilled the SUV (that had been a convertible, yet changed miraculously) with gas and sighed in sadness. "They'll have to split up soon ya know?" She said to Kid Flash who was leaning against the vehicle staring up at the night sky.

It was around midnight, they were at a vacated gas station out in the middle of nowhere. Everyone except Kidflash and the stylish sorceress were asleep in the car, and they were of course speaking of Raven and Beast Boy who were seated next to each other in the backseat, their heads on top of one another's.

"Yeah, I know..." Her boyfriend replied. "But Beast Boy is in more trouble than you think, along with the Storm Twinklets and Kolie."

Jinx gave him a deadpan look. "Their names are Thunder and Lightning. And when did you give Kole a nickname?" The amount of money still continued to add up on the gas pump. "But that doesn't matter right now. What matters, is that we need to get them all under disguise and protection. They might have to live as regular civilians somewhere in...Star City, Central, Steel...I don't know. But we need to get Beast Boy on a plane, and once we find T and L, and Kole, they need to be boarded on a ship and taken to where ever we want to them meet."

Kid flash laughed. "Jinx, Roy and I have already worked out where they should stay."

"And that is?"

"Well, Roy was gonna make the dumb decision and have them meet up with this girl he likes and stay somewhere...but I thought Bushido's place. He's still in Japan. He lives in an apartment complex. They'll adapt well. I even told the warrior about it. And he says he's down with that."

"I'm taking your word on it Walrus, but if anything happens to them down there..."

"Yeah, I know. You'll cut off my legs and throw them to the sharks."

"Okay then." Jinx took some money from her boot and set it next to the pump. "I'm surprised my magic use worked on this thing and activated it. Okay, let's bounce."

Kid Flash begrudgingly got into the vehicle. He hated cars, they were too damn slow.

Kole heard her communicator ring, and took it out from her boot. It was Jinx, surprisingly.

"Hello Jinx."

"Hey, Crystal Jem," Jinx gushed. "So, how are things with you and Jerri?"

Kole blushed. "Um, nothing really. He has gone with Herald to get something to eat. He's gonna bring me back something. I'm just here."

Jinx raised her eyebrow. "Perfect, 'cause I need you to do something for me..."

Kole laughed nervously. What did Jinx want her to do? Oh, crud.

"I've sent you a page of some boat tickets. It should pop up on your communicator. When you've got them go to a nearby post-it store, or when you get to the boat and are at the dock there should be a machine where you'll be able to print the ticket out."

"Why do I need to get on a boat?"

"Because Crystal Jem, you're going to Japan."

Kole started to laugh hysterically. No. No... No! She wasn't going to Japan. Why in the heck did she need to go to Japan?! "No I'm not, Jinx. Don't be silly."

The sorceress frowned. "I am not joking Kole. Beast Boy is going to meet you in Japan, you are both to meet Bushido there. At his residence. I should send you directions to his apartment right now."

"But why do I need to go to Japan?" Kole asked. "Can't I just stay here?"

"No, because you, Beast Boy, and the Storm Twins have caused controversy."

Kole thought that to be silly. What controversy? It's not like they've taken provocative photos of one another and have sent to everyone on the team, or have done villain-like work. So what, Thunder and Lightning have been suspended from superhero duties, and Beast Boy have gotten bad beef from his team... seriously, what controversy to speak of?

"Just go, Kole. I'm telling you this for your own good."

She didn't like this. "I haven't seen Gnarrk in ages(and her mother too, but she didn't mention that) and I'm now've just gotten to spend time with Jericho. Why must I leave now? It's not fair."

Jinx looked apologetic, yet didn't know how to comfort her teammate and friend. She could only say, "you'll be in safe hands Kole. You will."

"Ya know, I wouldn't normally leave without saying goodbye to anyone. But I'll go if you promise me you'll get Thunder and Lightning back, and that they'll be in Japan, okay?"

"Yeah, they'll be in Japan in no time. I'm checking off now, but...make sure to destroy your communicator. Robin we'll be looking for you guys."

Kole wanted to question her about that last statement. But Jinx already was gone. She wasn't on the screen of Kole's communicator.

Beast Boy had seen it coming. The whispering, the cold atmosphere that had come about in the car... It wasn't surprising he was finding himself leaving the one person he ever truly loved. Sure, Raven and him had kissed but it was all under Jinx's potion. She'd been mind controlled, and it never had meant anything. He was doing a good thing anyway, leaving Raven. He needed to focus on finding Thunder and Lightning anyway.

But when he was woken up by Kid flash and he was telling him things like how he were to leave immediately and go to the local airport. It was something.

"What?! Japan?!" Beast Boy exclaimed. "But why there?!Dude I can't leave..." He glanced back at the car that held a tired Jinx, obnoxious Speedy, and a pissed off Raven who was annoyed by Speedy's obnoxiousness. They all were stopping for a bathroom break. They didn't stop at a convenient store, they stopped by a fishing area with a public bathroom building built near by.

Wally smiled knowingly. "Yeah, you can't leave Raven. I know. But...my uncle said you and Kolie, and Thunder and Lightning were going to be exposed as villains and your superhero careers will never be the same. You have to go to Japan. You just have to Beast Boy. I'm doing this 'cause you're my comrade and friend. But first, we're going to do one thing before you're to leave. We're busting Thunder and Lightning out."

Beast Boy brightened up at the idea, and seemed to gain some of the remaining optimism. "Will it just be me and you, or...?"

"We're bringing Speedy along, besides Raven and Jinx are going to stay in the car, conjure up a spell to see if Robin is already on the look out for you guys." Wally nodded his head and let out a chuckle. "Which is very likely."

"Come on Spedday!" He then yelled over to the archer. "We already have the black outfits, we now need to begin the mission. Didn't Jinx say her and Raven tracked down the Storm Bros using that spell stuff? They're somewhere near Philadelphia, in a warehouse?"

"Yeah!" He replied. He took out his communicator. "Yeah, Philly. They're located in some warehouse.

They were going to bust T & L out.

well, this story will come to ending very soon (I think, it depends on my procrastination) but hopefully you all will be satisfied with the ending and such. Romantic pairings are: BBRae and Jerikole.
