CHAPTER 18

SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT

Robin was miffed at the fact that half the Titans didn't show up to the meeting. Where was everyone?

Starfire and Cyborg were here.

Argent was here.

Hotspot was here.

Bumblebee, and Mãs y Menos.

Red Star, Aqualad, Tram, Pantha, Wildebeest, and Herald were here.

Timmy, Teether, and Melvin..oh! And Bobby were here..(almost forgot him.)

Killowatt was here.

But where was Kid Flash and Jinx?

Where was Raven?

Wonder Girl wasn't even here.

Roy? Where the heck did he go?

Robin ran his fingers quickly through his gelled hair and looked at his communicator. A light bulb lit up above his head, he turned to Cyborg who stood beside him. "Cyborg, go and run a scanner through my communicator. I need you to see where each member who didn't show up is located. Once you've done that, report back to me."

Cyborg nodded and went to the T-Car. He normally would have went to his garage but they weren't at the Titan West tower. The T-car had a scanner, and other technologies like at home, and he could use his mechanic-like arm, too. So he was all set.

"Leader Robin," said Starfire solemnly her jade eyes a bit gloomy, "Where is Raven, and Beast Boy?"

Starfire have asked that, Robin began to wonder when Cyborg would be back with his communicator. "I don't know, Star. I don't know."

Raven and Jinx sat atop the vehicle and looked up at the night sky. It was a pretty night, and they may have even spotted a shooting star, but neither of them didn't know it, they both marveled at the pretty sky.

Jinx looked at Raven and asked, "Do you love Beast Boy?"

There was no spell, there was no potion. Jinx knew whatever the answer was. It was of the truth.

Raven raised her eyebrow and looked at her. "That again?" She said in her regular monotone voice.

"I'm just asking..."

"No," Raven answered. "I simply can't think of that right now. I'm dating Jericho."

Jinx cackled in disbelief. "Oh gosh! Raven I didn't know you were so humorous!"

Raven gave her a deadly glare. "I am serious. People say Jericho and I complement each other."

"What people? I most certainly didn't say so, nor did Kid Flash, or Speedy, or Beast Boy, or Kole..."

"Yeah, I get your point Jinx," the Mage said seriously. "And Robin said we complemented each other, fans online say we complement each other. Why do you find that so hard to believe?"

Jinx crossed her arms and gave Raven "a girl pleez!" look.

"Do you think Kole has feelings for Jericho?" She asked. "Did you ever think about sweet Kole?"

Raven shrugged and looked away from her teammate. "I don't know. She's dating Beast Boy, they seem happy together." Saying that, Raven couldn't keep the jealousy from being evident in her voice. "She's always in his room. They probably do rash things."

Jinx shook her head. "You've got it all wrong Raven...you and Jericho may 'complement' each other but you are complemented with better people and you just don't know it."

Raven touched her lips and shook her head. "No...that's hogwash."

"Yeah..." Jinx jumped down from the car and opened the car door to the driver's seat. She looked up a Raven "Then tell me Raven, why did you kiss Beast Boy? I don't think your cloak is that color everyday, is it? You are so hilarious Raven, you should do stand-up part time." She then got inside the car.

Raven looked dumbfounded. She really did want to explain of her actions, but what was there to explain? Before she could even answer her own question there came an alert; her communicator made a sound. She opened it and read the message, it perfectly clear:

All Titan members report to Titan East Tower. Kole, Beast Boy, Thunder and Lightning are wanted. We need to consult on their whereabouts. Report to Titan East Tower immediately. You are excused of this order if you are performing super hero duties at the moment. - Robin.

"Jinx!" Raven called to her teammate. "Come and see this."

Kole didn't want to board the boat. She wanted to turn around and go home. She knew Gnarrk missed her aplenty, and she wondered how he was holding up. He could go very little days without her. And then there was her mother, Marilyn. Her mother must've been worried. How many days had it been? A day, or two? It felt like a year.

"I can't go, I can't go," she said to herself. "Thunder and Lightning are going to die because of me. If Beast Boy and I hadn't let them in on our game, they wouldn't be in this mess."

"Miss, are you coming?" A clean cut looking dude who was an employee of the boating services. "This boat will sail in five minutes."

Kole contemplated. If she were to get on the boat she would be safe, and she wouldn't have to face the wrath of both Robin and her teammates. Yet, if she didn't get on the boat, she would risk her dignity, and respect as a superhero to go and see if her brotherly comrades were alright. She chose the second option.

Luggage still in her hand, she ran swiftly back to the little town that was near Jericho's residence and entered a small little cafe. It must've been a small case of amnesia because she began to remember how she got here. Gnarrk. He found her, he knew her scent, and could track her down like a dog. He was around here somewhere. She needed to hug him, and tell him how sorry she was for abandoning him. Kole took a dozen muffins from a basket on the clerk counter and paid for them with very little remainder of her superhero pay check. "He would like these," she said to herself. "He would like the strawberry and banana nut."

She remembered:

After escaping from Slade's robotic clones her and Beast Boy accidentally split up. She ran left, he ran right.

In agony and pain she trekked home, but barely even making it to the bus stop, she passed out.

But how did Gnarrk get her here though? There was water, and the mountains...and many more high and lows to traveling by foot to this land of mountains and grass. How did he do it?

She passed many people when she wandered around the town wondering where Gnarrk was.

Jericho paced his small room, the one his father had prepared for him before he came. No, he thought, why does he do this? He can't do this! He can't do harm to Thunder and Lightning.

Jericho knew well that the Storm Twins weren't in this building because that's the only thing Slade revealed to him. They were kept somewhere only a few people know exist. He was of the majority of the people in the world who didn't know of the place.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. He was to never find his teammates, they were to be dead or drained before he came to them. Just sitting in this room and staying in this lair he felt like an accomplice to his father's crime. Just plain treacherous!

He had to think of something.

Then it dawned on him...why, it was his superpower after all!

-/-/-

Thunder and Lightning didn't like this one bit. After the shocks there was the feeling of a thousand heavy rocks beating on their backs, you would think how the contraption looked, it was a massager, but it was way beyond that.

"Stop!" Thunder boomed. "This device his hurting me and Brother!"

Lightning didn't like the shocks, they were irritable to his body. He even started to bleed, and he didn't think he was one to bleed. The beating rocks were done, again came the shocks. "You wretched fool!" Lightning bellowed mercifully. "Why must you show your cowardliness upon on our souls?!"

Slade smirked hearing the brothers. This exercise was almost done. He just thought they needed a boost in their power.

"You should be thanking me," Slade said. "I'm optimising your powers. Thunder, those beating of rocks on your back help you with your seismic destruction. Lightning, that shock that pulses through your veins helps you garner quick movement when you are of use with your lightning."

Thunder and Lightning had liked it better when they were in that cell room. Of course they had been bored, and their stomachs had been roaring with hunger, but they weren't having their wits bashed out.

"Please stop!" Thunder said in a tone of tiredness. "I don't think I can endure this any longer."

Slade looked at the progress of the brothers stamina on the electric meter on a tablet device. He had it propped up in front of him on a metal shelf. There were lines moving on the screen; one was yellow, the other one blue. He could see how strong they both were. They hadn't died yet.

He looked back at the brothers and laughed. He judged too soon, they both had fainted. Oh! They'll wake up soon. No big deal. But he did them like that for hours. As soon as they woke up he would continue those 'exercises,' barely would he allow them time to drink.

After four hours max the brothers looked slugged and bashed. They didn't look like Thunder and Lightning anymore.
