Billy awoke in an unfamiliar place and to a killer headache. He took a look at his phone, it was around 4 in the morning. He was suddenly aware that there was another person in the bed with him, it was Julie.
But how did he, oh yea. He remembered coming here, but why?
He was fully clothed, which was a relief as a one night stand was not how he'd wanted his first time to go.
Quietly, he let himself out, noticing how trashed the place was, there were a few people still inside her suite.
He found his way to his guitar, "can't believe i left that out of my sight."
And then he made his way back to his suite.
The room was dark, but he felt something soft on his legs.
Smiling, he bent over to pick up the little pup, and quietly called out to Spencer.
There was no response, so he figured maybe the boy was sleep, and flicked on a light.
The floor was a mess. All of their things scattered, which he later found were only his own things. All of Spencer's things were gone.
Had he been kidnapped? No.
A kidnapper wouldn't have let him get his things, so he had to have… left.
But why? Why on earth would Spencer leave.
His head hurt so bad, but he was also so scared. What the hell was going on?
He did the only logical thing and went down to the front desk, if Spencer left he'd have to have left out this door.
Slowly, he made his way down to the front desk.
"Excuse me," he said, wincing.
"How may I help you sir," the front desk guy asked sleepily..
"Uhm," Billy began, "was there a boy?"
"... that left here? Maybe a few hours ago? … With a red book bag?"
The desk man thought for a moment.
"Did he have two little," he made his hands into small circles and held them over his head.
"Yea," Billy said a bit too excited.
"Oh, well yes. He turned in his key about two hours ago."
Billy's heart sunk.
"W-was he with anyone?"
"No, he was alone, he looked rather upset."
So something had made Spencer upset, but what would do that?
Maybe something happened at the party?
Billy sighed, mumbled a thank you, and made his way back up to the room.
Maybe he's in the truck? The thought perking him up.
Quickly, he began shoving his things into his bags, grabbed his guitar and Mum, not really caring whether the guy at the front desk saw her or not.
He dropped his key on the front desk and was out. What a wasted buy.
He made his way to the truck. Full of hope he opened the door.
"Spence," he called out, but there was no answer.
Spencer was not in the truck and Spencer was not in their hotel room. So where could he be then?
He pulled out his phone and dialed the boys number.
"Im so dumb," he mumbled to himself. Why on earth would he throw his phone away. He needed it to to do anything. What if he needed to call the police?
He roamed around the park in the direction he remembered throwing his phone searching aimlessly for it, hoping it was still there.
He felt like crying again, tears threatened to leave his eyes, when faintly he heard it. The ring tone he'd set on it.
"Yes, please keep calling," he mumbled, quickly following the sound.
It stopped ringing, only to start back up a few seconds later.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," he repeated, hugging the phone. Whoa, he really was a millennial.
But what now?
He'd missed too much school to go back now. But, then what would he do?
School was probably his first priority. However he did really want to see…
He took a deep breath and pulled his blocked numbers list back up, unblocking everyone.
He clicked Shanilla's number and pressed the call button.
His heart sped up, and he unconsciously held his breath, only to let it out a few seconds later. He'd hung up, it was 4 in the morning, of course she wouldn't be awake to answer the call.
But, still.
He'd decided that he'd go home, or at least back to his city and…
And he'd figure the rest out from there, he'd still had his room and everything back home.
He started crying again, but he had to be a strong boy now.
He took a deep breath, and began walking in what felt like the right direction, he'd ask someone later. He'd probably better get used to this. Early mornings and late nights, Making due with 2 hours of sleep a night. Because it would take him a while to get back home from where he was now.
He thought as he walked, he'd been walking for about 4 hours now, mild breaks every 40 minutes or so.
He thought about home, about Billy.
What had happened at school? Had people even noticed that he'd gone? Had they noticed that Billy was also gone? Was there some sort of correlation thought of between the two? Probably not because anyone concerned with Billy probably didn't even know that Spencer existed. and those that did? There was no way they'd think the two of them were together. They'd never even spoken really in school before, Spencer didnt even think he really cared about his existence.
And i guess he hadn't cared about mine either.
I suppose I was just there at the moment and looked desperate enough to do whatever that guy wanted me to do.
All those stupid things he'd said to Spencer? Probably just to get him to want to stay.
He had fallen for Billy's tricks, he put a hand over his stomach, he felt horrible.
And what about all those times they'd kissed?
Spencer felt chills on his body thinking about it. and what about what he'd suggested last night?
Had he done that with the girl? Is that why he was in her room.
He held onto his stomach tighter, the pain was unbearable now, and he felt like he had to-
Not here, he told himself, clamping another hand over his mouth.
He probably looked dumb, but people would thank him later.
He quickly made his way to a grocery store, entering the restroom.
He went into a stall and sat on the floor, waiting, until-
He rinsed his mouth out several times with water, trying to get the awful taste out of his mouth.
Maybe he could go buy some mouthwash.
She bit her lip to stop her eyes from watering and made her way to her brothers door.
"Rajeev," she called, knocking anxiously on his door.
"Okay, okay, im up, what do you want," he asked rubbing his eyes as he opened the door.
"Look," she whispered, pushing the phone up to his face.
Rajeev heistated, not knowing what to say, then jealousy blurted "What? Why'd he call you?
Shanilla looked at him with teary eyes.
He shook his head. Now wasnt really the time for this.
"Did you call him back," he decided to say.
She shook her head.
Her brother was quiet for a moment before mumbling "should we?"
"I don't know."
Before he could stop himself Rajeev grabbed the phone from her hand and called the number back. Putting it on speaker just in case he answered, though they both doubted he would.
….
….
"You have reached the voicemail box of-"
Disappointed, he hung up.
"We shouldn't tell his family about this," Rajeev suggested.
Shanilla nodded in agreement, it would only make things worse.
That was 3 days ago. They heard nothing back from him since.
…
Eyes fluttered open sleepily to a car wheel. He heard thunder in the distance, and rain hit his car windows from every direction
He jumped up, had he fallen asleep here last night again? That had been happening a lot lately.
The past few days had been restless, Billy spent hours on end driving around looking for any thing that could allude to Spencer, but it was as if he hadnt even existed aside from Billy's memory.
The thought made him feel ill.
It was weird how people were, how they just existed, but sometimes there was nothing left by them to remember them by, almost as if they'd never existed. Billy didnt like that idea, but maybe… maybe Spencer did.
He'd thought about the boy, about all the things he'd learned about him. About how he was always up super early before Billy was. He'd usually sit outside the truck and just enjoy whatever the weather was. Spencer liked the weather. He remembered the times he'd caught him lying on top of the roof in the rain.
He usually did that when he was upset.
Billy removed the blanket from around him that they'd shared, and opened his car door.
Mum stayed inside, she hated the rain.
Carefully, he climbed up on top of the car and lowered himself onto the wet roof, the back of his shirt sticking to his skin.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, covering them with his arm.
A rain bath, to wash away all his worries.
He didnt sleep in this moment. He didnt think, or wish, or curse. He just was. He just existed, himself separate from all those things.
He let the rain fall all over his body, removing his arm from his face, he kept his eyes shut, he couldnt tell whether he was crying, or if it was just rain. His imaginary tears mixing in with the rain drops.
Eventually he found himself back inside his car, pulling the wet clothes from his body. He felt disgusting. He'd hated when his clothes were drenched and stuck to his body.
Drying himself off with a towel, he began to put on dry clothes. It'd been over a week since Spencer left and Billy'd been wearing the same clothes ever since the party.
Even though they had been practically homeless they'd still always found time to shower at least twice weekly, so this was unusual.
He put on his green hoodie and a pair of joggers, he connected to them on a spiritual level.
It was funny how things could just happen so fast. How fast he was able to just up and leave. How fast a relationship could build between two people. How fast things could go so right and subsequently spiral out of control. It all seemed so fast, yet so long ago.
Billy lay on his back with one arm under his head in the back of his truck, with mum laying in the area where his arm met his torso he just thought.
He thought about so many things, reflecting on his life even before he'd met Spencer.
About his mom, and his home before he left. And about school and everyone there. About his temporary apartment he'd lived in after he moved out. And about Spencer's room.
Spencer had such a cool room. All those things he'd collected throughout his life, all his movies and movie posters. All his film equipment. All of those things were things that Spencer loved. So why did he give it all away for Billy? A boy that he'd hardly even knew?
His parents took good care of him, he had a home and food. He'd even had friends. Why would Spencer leave all of that for some stupid hobo dream? He couldn't even really recall the last time he'd seen Spencer use his camera.
It made Billy feel bad. This time he really did begin to cry, he cried for the first time in a long time. He cried about Spencer, and about home. About his mother and school. He cried about his stupid car and the dog he thought he could take care of. He felt stupid and dumb and worthless and so many more feelings that he'd been pushing away for so long. And eventually he cried himself to sleep.
A tiny bell jingled when he opened the door. The door belonged to a tiny coffee shop somewhere in wherever Spencer was now. Its not that he hadn't kept track of where he was, he was just too tired to remember.
"Could i have the cheapest coffee ya got," he asked tiredly, rubbing his eye.
He gave the cashier money and went to take a seat at a table by the window.
Plugging his phone up to the charger, he lowered his head. It'd be okay if he rested his eyes for a moment right?
He wasn't sure for how many days he'd been walking. He was only aware that according to the map on his phone he should've reached his state within 13 days on feet.
Of course that didnt take into account any stops that were being made. And Spencer had began to make stops more and more frequently. He needed to eat in order to keep moving, and he needed at least a few hours of sleep. He also needed to keep up with his bathing every now and then, meaning he also needed to find a place to bathe, which undoubtedly put him off track, extending the time it would take him to get home.
Whatever though, maybe it didnt even matter. He struggled to keep is eyes open as they kept trying to close on him.
Suddenly there was a loud tapping sound in his ear. Spencers eyes opened wide and he quickly sat up, searching for the source of the noise.
He was met with a tan skinned girl with purple hair.
"Hello, sir," she smiled.
Spencer only stared blankly.
"Im sorry, but you cant sleep here," she explained.
"What do you mean," Spencer asked dumbfounded, " I wasnt sleep."
"Sir, you've been sleeping here for a few hours now."
"It was okay for a while, but…" she trailed off.
Spencer understood. He'd probably looked homeless, and having a homeless dude sleeping in your restaurant wasn't very good for business.
Throwing out several apologies, Spencer packed up his things and was on his way. The coffee he ordered was now iced coffee, he was several hours behind, but at least his phone was charged.
His back ached from carrying his heavy bag for so many hours on end. His feet hurt from walking and he was still terribly tired.
Looking up his address, he then resumed his journey. Even though he had been terribly tired it was still fun getting to see all the new places. That was the one thing that he hadn't regretting right now. The experience of getting out to see the world was something that everyone should have to ability to do at least once in their life. It was very fulfilling getting to see and explore things that you'd never even imagined you'd be able to see.
All the people that you'd passed by had their own little lives and their own stories, but it was different from when you passed someone by in your own home town. These people were living and seeing entirely different things than you each day of their lives. This that you saw in front of you now, this is likely what they had the chance to see many times throughout their lives.
Spencer had only now really understood why Billy wanted to do something like this with his life. Billy was the type of person who couldnt stay in one place for too long. He liked adventure, and quickly grew bored of doing the same things over and over again. With a life like this hed almost never have to live through the same routine. Especially if he wanted to be a real musician. Billy loved his guitar, Spencer was sure that he'd become somebody important some day.
It made him think of his own hobby, movie making and special effects. He hadnt even thought about any of that stuff for a long time. Did he still like movies? Was he still interested in making movies, and what about film school? Spencer sighed.
He continued walking, deep in thought for the next few hours until it began to grow dark. Spencer didnt really like being out at night, so he wanted to make his way to a park or something, somewhere that would would a bit safer to just sit for the night. Unfortunately for him, he was currently in the middle of some city, a city that appeared rather ill favoured at night.
As if on queue with removal of the sun, all the pleasant looking people on the streets began to be replaced with scary looking ones. Spencer began to feel uncomfortable. He felt scared, everyone looked angry and like they'd mug you at any moment and because of this reason he didnt want to pull out his phone. There was no way he'd make it back home without it. So with hope in his heart, he kept his eyes on the ground, and continued walking forward, hoping to run into a more welcoming space.
Ahead of him he noticed some drunk looking guys. He'd wanted to turn around and cross the street, but one of them had already caught his eye. Spencer swallowed hard, eyes darting back to the ground. As he walked towards the men, he heard them laugh. They looked like lowdown frat boys, which made Spencer wish that they had been thugs.
Of course he hadn't ever really met a frat boy, but he'd heard they were terrible, and he wasnt really in the mood to meet one. He quickly, but secretly put earbuds in his ears, so if they'd said something he wouldn't have to hear and would have an excuse as to why he wouldnt respond.
He shoved his hands in his pockets and concentrated on the ground, quickening his pace a bit. He walked past the men, and just as he was almost clear, one of them grabbed onto his shoulder.
Spencer looked at the man with a terrified expression, only to be met with a terrifying smirk. The man yanked out Spencers earbuds from his ears."So this is why you couldnt hear me, huh?"
Spencer was speechless, he really didnt know what to say. The other men laughed, edging the guy on.
"Whats a little twink like you doing out this late at night?"
Spencer could only force a fake smile.
"Aww guys, he's so scared he cant even talk."
"Adorable," one of the other men said.
"Oh wait," another exclaimed.
"He's just out looking to get penetrated."
"Thats definitely not true," Spencer squeaked.
"Oh, is that so," the main guy asked.
"Well looks like he found the right place."
With an evil looking smirk on his face he dragged Spencer into the small building that they were standing in front of.
Inside Spencer realised that this was a club, and these dudes were probably super drunk. Not that it made them any better, but it warmed his heart a little to know that they probably weren't this horrible as actual people.
Noticing that he was being pulled by the handle on his backpack, without thinking he slipped out of the straps, getting lost in the crowd of brutal club goers.
"Where'd he go," he heard one guy ask.
Quickly, he pushed past people rubbing their bodies up against each other.
He made his way to a dim corner near a trash can and began to sit on the floor, when suddenly someone yelled at him.
"You dont want to do that, dude," the voice said.
Spencers eyes grew big as he looked up mid squat.
A young man, a little older than him stood in front of him.
"These floors are rarely cleaned, you dont know what you might pick up from sitting on it."
Spencer straightened his body up. Something about him seemed familiar, but he still stayed cautious.
Noticing this, the boy gave a smile, "Im Jared, im a bartender here."
Spencers heart slowed down a bit and he let out a breath he'd been holding in.
The boy walked closer to him and grabbed his arm, he brought Spencer up some stairs and through a door that read "employees only."
The area around him transformed. This must be the employee lounge. It looked so clean and cool. There were several couches, and a TV. There was a mini fridge and a pool table. Not to mention there were a bunch of neon light up lights and other knick knacks hanging off the wall.
"You can sit here if you're looking for a place to chill."
Spencer smiled at Jared, he had his curly hair pulled back into a ponytail, except this time it was dyed a light blue, almost green color.
Suddenly he got a look on his face, "hey, you're uh, that guy from the party right?"
"Spencer was it?"
"Yea," Spencer breathed.
Jared's face suddenly lit up.
He pulled Spencer in for a hug.
"ITs good to see you, dude, but tell me what are you doing in a place like this?"
Spencer sat, "Its a long story, but basically some guys dragged me in here, I ended up getting away from them, but I lost my bag in the process."
Jared smiled. "Thats hard dude, I could definitely fish it out for you once we close, Highly doubt they want any use for it. People leave their shit lying around here all the time. You wouldn't believe the kind of stuff we find here."
Jared walked over to the fridge and grabbed a few drinks. He then took a seat next to Spencer on the couch.
After feeding Spencer a few drinks he decided to ask,
"So whats this looong story you wanna tell?"
Spencer hesitated, then shook his head. "I dont want to bother you with my problems."
Jared shrugged lifting his hands, and with a tired smile said "Its my job to listen to people's problems."
Spencer didnt seem very convinced.
"Besides, I asked you. I'm curious."
Maybe it was all the drinks he'd had, but hearing this, he decided that maybe it'd be okay if he opened up to one last person.
The next morning Spencer awoke in a clean bed. His eyes slowly scanned the room, a red bag sat on the floor near the window. Spencer smiled, quietly getting up he dashed over to the bag, hugging it in his arms. He wanted to check his phone for the time, but as he felt around in his pocket it was gone. Anxiously he stood. Patting all the pockets he'd had on him, only to see that it sat on the table beside the bed he'd awoke in.
Spencer sighed heavily. Suddenly his eyes widening as he saw that is was 1 in the afternoon. A piece of paper lay underneath where his phone was.
"Call me when you get up
Jared"
was written on the paper, along with a series of numbers.
Slowly, Spencer dialed the number into his phone.
Jared had a series of part time jobs that he'd done throughout the week. He'd gotten to the point where he was working multiple different jobs in one day. The weekends were the only times he had off, so he'd promised that when Spencer was ready he'd drive him home this weekend. It was currently Wednesday, so he'd have to wait a few more days before he could finally go back.
Jared left early in the morning and wasnt back until late at night, so until then Spencer could have the place to himself.''
Jareds apartment was pretty expensive, it was in the middle of a nice neighborhood and it even had a balcony, a pretty decent one at that. There was TV and cable and wifi, he wondered how the guy had even afforded the place if he was stuck in so many different side jobs.
But regardless, it was nice of him.
Billy paced around the grassy area. Mum following closely behind, Billy felt as though she thought it was a game.
He probably knew where Spencer was going. Of course he'd go to the only other place he'd known: Home.
Maybe he'd just gotten tired of being with Billy. But he should've said something, he would have definitely gone home. Billy would have taken him. Or at least he'd like to think he would have. Billy knew deep down that he really hadnt wanted Spencer to go. He knew that he'd probably have done anything he could have to keep the boy from leaving him.
But then theres also that saying that if you really cared for something you had to let it go. Billy's motto had always been to hold it close so tightly that it couldn't get away.. Maybe thats why things always ended like this. That people always left, that he was always alone.
Suddenly his ringing phone brought him out of his thoughts. It was Julie, they hand spoken since about 3 weeks ago at the party.
"Hello," he answered.
"Hey, Billy," he heard from the other side of the phone, she was a little bit too happy for his liking.
"What's up," he questioned hesitantly.
"You sound so BORED," she noted loudly, pausing shortly before talking again.
"I just wanted to get out and go somewhere with you, havent seen you in forever. Lets go check out all the clubs in town."
Billy sighed on the other side of the phone, he didnt really have time for this.
"Do you remeber Spencer, the small brunette I brought along to the party," he decided to ask.
The girl hesitated for a moment, the spat out a "yea."
"Did he say anything to you before he left that night," he asked.
"He left, and I mean I think I know where he is, but if he's mad at me I want to apologise."
Billy gasped, "You dont think it's because I left him alone at the party do you?'
"But I saw myself that he'd been busy with some people, he wasnt alone," He answered himself.
"Well," the girl interrupted, "if you must know, he did ask where you were, and I just told him the truth, that you were up with me, telling me about you guys' adventure." he could hear her smirk through the phone.
"And that's all you told him," Billy questioned, recalling part of that conversation. He honestly hadn't remembered all that he told her.
"Yup," the girl lied.
Billy sighed, gave a goodbye and hung up before Julie could even respond.
He and Mum hopped into his car. They were going to Spencer's house.
Billy drove for hours, only making stops when necessary, he understood now. He needed to apologize to Spencer, not only out of politeness, but because at the end of the day the two of them were still friends. Or at least they were in Billy's mind.
After a few more hours of driving he finally made it to Spencers home. He'd only been here once before, all those months ago. He quickly got out of the car and ran up to Spencers front door, when he'd noticed the time. It was 4 in the morning, it was definitely too early to have someone dealing with this. So with all the self restraint he had left in him, he trudged back to his car where he would stay until it reached an appropriate time. Eventually he ended up falling asleep, right there in front of Spencer's house.
It was 9 in the morning when he finally decided to reapproach the door.
Grabbing Mum in his arms he slowly approached the door, only to have it open a few inches. His heart jumped, in the door he saw a purple haired girl appear.
"I'll go watch out for them," she yelled to someone behind her.
Billy gave the friendliest smile he could pull, along with a wave.
"Who are you," the girl asked suspiciously.
"Are you Spencer's sister," he asked.
All emotion immediately drained from the girls face.
At the same moment, a voice from behind him said "Hey, Jessica."
Billy turned to see two people, a boy and girl.
The two stopped in their tracks.
"Billy?" the boy said.
Billy gave a small smile, he recognized him vaguely from school, but was blanking on a name.
"You know him," both Jessica and Rajeev asked in unison, aimed at each other.
"This guy used to go to our school, a while ago he just stopped showing up," Rajeev explained.
Jessica thought for a moment. "He knew Spencer?"
"I dont know, did he know Spencer," Rajeev mumbled to his sister.
She shrugged.
The four of them glanced amongst themselves quietly for a moment, before things began to fit together.
"Billy," Shanilla called out. "Where you with Spencer?"
"... yeah," he admitted softly.
"So then where is he now," Jessica asked as if she'd been holding it in all this time.
Billy's eyes widened. "He's inside isn't he?"
The four of them, along with Spencer's parents, sat in the living room as Billy explained what had happened. He'd told them everything, except the dirty things he and Spencer had done, for some reason he felt that they probably wouldn't have been so pleased to hear that, not that they were pleased about what he was telling them now. But otherwise he told them everything, about how it was his idea, and about why he did it, but also about how Spencer had felt, and how Spencer had left. He felt ashamed, but he felt like it was his fault, and that they'd deserved to know after have having been in the dark for so long.
And while they appreciated all of this, it still wasnt over because Spencer still was not home. He wasn't safe with Billy, he was somewhere out there in the world. He could've been anywhere.
Unexpectedly, Billy's phone rang.
It was now friday, tomorrow Spencer would be on his way home. Even though the time was still so far away his stomach felt terrible. He had so many butterflies. What was going to happen when he walked through the door? Would everyone come and hug him? Would they yell at him? Did Jessica even miss him? She seemed like she hated him most.
Spencer paced around the room anxiously, he felt as though his heart would beat right out of his chest. Desperately he searched around Jared's apartment for something, anything. A pill or something that would help him calm down. Eventually he found something after digging through the boy's fridge. It was a bit bottle of something, Spencer didnt really care what it was, he just wanted it. Clutching the bottle to his chest he shakily searched for a bottle opener.
He made his way out to the balcony and took a seat on the ground in front of the railing.
Placing the bottle up to his mouth, he took a big gulp of whatever it was. It stung as it went down. A few moments passed before he took another sip. He was beginning to calm down.
If he was going home tomorrow then there's still one thing that he had to do. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he went through his blocked numbers list and called the only number on there.
The phone rang a few times before it finally picked up.
"Spencer?" He heard from the other side.
"Billy," he said only above a whisper.
"Where are you," the oy asked on the other side of the line.
"I dont know."
Unexpectedly another voice came onto the phone.
"Spencer."
Instantly he recognized the voice.
Why was his mother on the phone? Was Billy at his house? Why on earth would he be there.
Panicking, he hung the phone up and took another gulp from the bottle. He sat there on the balcony with his leg hanging through the rails for some time, just clutching the bottle to his chest, he was then startled as his phone rang again.
It said Billy, but how could he be sure.
Hesitantly he picked the phone back up, just holding it to his ear without saying anything.
"Spencer," he heard, it was Billy's voice.
"Dont put them on the phone," he begged.
"Its okay Spence, im in the car. Im alone."
Spencer felt his heart slow down.
"Come on Spence, where are you, please let me know."
Spencer stuttered. "I- I dont know. Im at Jared's."
"Who's Jared?"
...
He heard Billy sigh.
"Look just… just send me your location. I'll come find you."
Spencer wasnt sure whether he wanted Billy to come find him, but he did as he was told.
He took another sip from the bottle in his hand as he heard Billy's car rev up.
"Thats not super far from here. I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Dont hang up, Billy," Spencer asked.
"I- I wont, but whats up, you dont sound too good?"
"Billy why did you have me come with you," Spencer asked, completely ignoring the question.
Before Billy could give an answer Spencer interrupted him.
"Was it because I was the only stupid person who was willing to entertain you?"
"Spencer."
"Everything is just like it always is, my only purpose is to be used, then no one wants me anymore.
"No -"
Spencer drank again.
"I thought you liked me Billy, I thought I meant something to you, but I was only there because you needed some punk to drive you around. Now that you have your license you dont need me anymore do you?"
Despite how deep he was getting, with every sip Spencer was feeling less anxious.
'Spencer listen, even if I dont need you to drive me around anymore it doesn't mean I dont need you."
That made Spencer pause. He thought of the words he wanted to say, but none would come up, so they sat on the phone together in silence.
After a few moments passed, Spencer began to speak again. He told Billy of so many of the things that were on his mind. He told him about his parents and Rajeev and Shanilla, and of Jessica and how and why he thought they'd hated him. And he told him of all the times he could remember that he'd inconvenienced someone on the street and wished that he could have just disappeared, or how he felt hed annoyed everyone all the time. Throughout this discussion he'd eventually finished off the bottle in his hand.
He felt tired, so he got up to stand, almost falling over, he steadied himself with the rail.
Spencer spoke and spilled out so much to Billy and before he knew it Billy was telling him that he was outside.
"Okay Spencer, just let me in, and Ill come get you."
"Keys... under... the mat," Spencer spoke slowly.
Suddenly something lit up inside of him.
Billy was here, he was outside. Right now he was coming up. Something about that made him feel uneasy. He desperately wanted out. He didnt want to do this right now, he couldn't do it right now. He searched around him for a place to go, but the only place was down.
Billy ran up so many flights of stairs. Spencer had said that he was on the 8th floor. He just felt like something was wrong and that he needed to be there as quickly as possible, he never would've guessed he'd see what he was looking at now.
As he entered the room his heart almost broke into a million pieces. Spencer appeared as if he was about to jump off the balcony. He was climbing onto the railing, with one leg already up there, the other still on the ground.
"Spencer," Billy screamed as he ran towards the boy. Sirens began to wail outside, apparently someone had seen what was going on and decided to call someone.
Just as Spencer began to turn, it appeared as if he lost his balance and his hands let go of the railing. Billy threw himself towards Spencer, grabbing onto any part of him he could. He just couldn't. Let. him. Go.
He rolled over onto his back, clutching Spencers body in his arms. It all happened so fast, he wasn't even really sure what was going on. And then everything went dark.
Spencer awoke to a white ceiling. Looking around he noticed he was lying in a white bed, in a white gown, the whole room was white. Something was connected to his arm, and his head hurt.
Suddenly his vision grew dark and he heard yelling in his ears. His head left right.
Something was wrapped around it. It was warm, and he felt a heartbeat against his head. The scent of perfume filling his nose.
It was his mother. She hugged him so tight he felt like he was going to die.
Using his hands, he peeled away at her arms with a bit of force.
"Oh sweetie, i'm so sorry," she cried, putting a dozen kisses on his face.
"Mom, let someone else get a turn," he heard. And suddenly Jessica's face filled his vision. She leaned down and wrapped her arms around his neck so as not to suffocated him. Yet the strength in her hug was the same, if not stronger.
"Alright, save some room for me," his father said. It appeared as though there was a line to hug him.
Spencer didn't know what to do, so he just sat while everyone came one by one to hug him.
It felt weird, seeing them all here after so long. His parents, his sister, and his Shanilla and Rajeev. They were all here, and they all seemed so concerned for him. He felt like he wanted to cry, and he did. Tears sprung from his eyes as he looked them all, and in return, as if they had been only waiting for the queue, tears appeared in everyone else's eyes. No one seemed angry, they just all seemed happy, even jessica who on any other day wouldn't be caught dead in the same room as him.
Maybe people just had weird ways of showing love?
Spencer had no clue, but a part of him finally did feel as though he was cared for, it just sucked that things had to get taken so far.
He could hardly remember anything that had happened yesterday, he'd only awoke in a hospital under the impression that he'd tried to kill himself. So that was the story they were going with.
After a moment of catching up a bit and just enjoying everyone's company, Spencer noticed that there was one person who wasn't in the room.
He wondered what Billy was up to, where was he?
As night fell Spencer assured everyone that he'd be fine staying the night alone in the hospital. They should all finally get some peaceful sleep.
And just as he himself were about to fall asleep, he felt a hand on his.
"Billy," Spencer whispered.
The boy gave a small smile. He was on his knees next to the
"Spencer," he began, "I am so sorry."
"I shouldn't have done any of what I did. And this is all my fault."
"I don't know how i could possibly make it up to you, but-"
Spencer pressed a finger against his friends lips and shook his head.
"Billy, you have me so much more than you have taken away. It was all just one big misunderstanding."
"But-"
Letting out a breath a thought popped into the smaller boy's head. "Y'know what… Why don't we just start over, you and I? Just try again, no apology necessary," Spencer asked, hope in his eyes.
He stuck out his right hand and took a deep breath, "Im Spencer Wright, everyone thinks i'm depressed or something, even though I swear im not."
Billy hesitated, then a small smile appeared on his face, taking Spencers hand in his own he replied, "Baruch Cohen, I get around by living as a hobo musician, ruining every relationship I have with anyone ever."
Spencer smiled. "Maybe im not anyone."
"Maybe," Billy replied.
Spencer stared at him as if he was waiting for something to happen. Searching Billy's eyes for any clue as to when, but nothing.
Letting out a small sigh, not out of anger or sadness, or any other bad feeling, but out of contentment, he gently pulled Billy down by his shirt collar.
Pushing their lips together softly, he was able to put everything else behind them. At least right now, it could wait for another day.
And so that was it, their story ended with the two of them kissing in the hospital. Except this kiss was different from the others, it was special. Spencers tummy felt weird, but not from nervousness this time, but from the thought that maybe they were falling in love right here in this small little hospital room.
There we go, the end. The story is over. I have finally finished it. Im gonna add an epilogue soon, but once thats done it will finally be over. I hope it ended okay and not too rushed. Ive had this idea for the ending since i started the story so I hope i did it okay. Again i hope whoever still reads this, or whoever may read this in the future enjoys it, and thank you so much for reading.
