"Lily!" James' silhouette could be seen in the uproar of steam that was fogging up platform nine and three quarters. "Wait! I have to talk to you!"

"Who's this Lily?" Asked Lily Evans mother, standing beside her daughter, and holding Lily's owl, Robyn, in its pewter cage. "A friend from school?"

"Sort of, he's a bit of a git, actually." Replied Lily, holding her own trunk, they had to try and hurry back, Mrs Evans didn't like to leave Petunia alone for long, and not in a busy place like Kings Cross Station, Petunia refused to go onto platform nine and three quarters since the end of Lily's first year.

"Oh." Was all Mrs Evans said.

"Lily Evans!" Called James again.

"Potter!" Lily mocked his tone. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, if you haven't noticed, I got to Hogwarts with you, and I have for five years." Grinned James, with a crooked smirk across his face.

"Not what I meant Potter." Grumbled Lily, rolling her eyes.

Mrs Evans was tactful enough to whisper "I'll go put Robyn in the car and I'll come back, I need to check in on Tuney." In Lily's ear to give Lily and James time together.

Lily frowned, she didn't want her mum to leave, and then James would flirt even more with her and be even more big headed.

"Your mum seems nice." James said.

"You're just saying that because she left us alone." Snapped Lily, crossing her arms.

"Where's your dad? The ginger bloke right, short isn't he?" James ignored her comment.

"Gone." Whispered Lily, choking on the word. "He died while I was doing my OWLs."

"I'm so sorry Lily, I shouldn't have brought it up, I'm an idiot." James went in to hug her.

"Don't touch me Potter." Muttered Lily, pulling away from him. "You didn't kill him, why should you be sorry?"

"I am sorry though, about everything, even about teasing Sni-"

"-Severus. No, call him whatever you like. I don't care." Sighed Lily.

"I am truly sorry though, about everything, I've been an-"

"-Arrogant toe-rag?" Suggested Lily.

"Yes! An arrogant toe-rag! Exactly What's a toe-rag?" Agreed James.

"A toe-rag is Muggle slang for a tosser, like you." Said Lily coldly.

"I am truly sorry though, about everything," Then James placed his hands in hers and his tone became very mature and serious.

Lily blushed, why was she doing that?

"Anyway, I brought you a token of my forgiveness," There he was, back to normal and regular James, same glint in his eye, same crooked smirk across his face, same pretty messy dark hair that he runs his fingers through too much.

"Really?" Asked Lily, she was bewildered that James held the capacity to be so mature.

"Really Ginger, you better believe it baby." James winked at her as he dug a small package from his pocket and placed it in Lily's hands.

Lily studied the packaging; it was wrapped in royal blue paper, with little golden snitches that were charmed to fly around on the paper. It was a fairly small package, given that it could fit in the good part of her palms.

"Aren't you going to open it?" Asked James, leaning over her to see what she was doing.

"Of course," Murmured Lily, blushing again and hastily trying to pull oped the package.

"Do you like it?" Asked James nervously, imagine that, James Potter… being shy and nervous!

Lily looked at the present, it was a wooden moose, with little ears and rubber antlers, and it had a burnt orange scarf around its neck, or was that meant to be its coat? It had a little painted on nose, eyes and mouth with little leather ears. It had four stumpy legs that were made using thick string and little wooden hooves; it looked very adorable and had a lovely woodsy smell about it. It looked hand-made, and it fit comfortably in the palm of Lily's hand

"I love it," Whispered Lily. "Thank you James."

James fiddled with the packaging that he had lifted off Lily's hands. "You're welcome." Then he grinned. "See, I was planning on getting you a stag-"

"Like a deer?"

"Yep" James with his voice popping on the 'p'.

"Why?" Asked Lily, clearly curious.

"Stags are bloody cool." Explained James simply.

"I've always liked deer's-"

"Stags," Corrected James. "It's manlier. The term deer, is too general, STAG is used for manly awesome deer."

Lily ignored him. "They're always so pretty, you know? And they're elegant too, with the way they leap… They've been m y favourite animal for years." Said Lily.

Yo-you love stags?" Grinned James, his eyes wide.

"Yeah, but I wouldn't go and just say stags, that's only male deer. You can't go and call every deer a stag, it doesn't make sense. But you could say I love them." Lily didn't understand James' expression. "Why'd you ask?"

"What about the antlers? I know this one stag, and its antlers are ENORMOUS!" Said James, grinning from ear to ear from the news he had just heard. Did he just wink?

"The antlers are the best part, I like the way they bend and twist, it's artistic." Said Lily. "But if you love deer so much, why did you get a moose?"

"They were out of stags," Clarified James. "One of a kind, stags are. You'll only find one in your lifetime, and you should go for it when you see one."

"What?" Asked Lily, confused.

"Never mind, you'll find out soon, very soon." James was still grinning.

"Right." Said Lily, giving up.

Then Lily felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Lily?" IT was Mrs Evans. "Are you ready to go? All of your things are in the car."

"Sure Mum,"

"Hello Mrs Evans!" Said James, still grinning.

"Hello," Said Mrs Evans. "Who is this Lily?"

"James Potter."

"Oh! That's infamous James Potter, you've certainly earned a bit of reputation in our household James." Chuckled Mrs Evans.

"Oh really?" Said James, looking directly at Lily. "What's she said?"

Lily groaned.

Mrs Evans laughed. "Oh, she complains about you all the time."

"Fascinating." Said James. "I'm Lily's friend." He clarified, nudging Lily with his elbow.

" Thank you James for the moose." Lily said then she went in to hug him.

James mouth hung open, what was this?

Lily wrapped her soft and petite arms around James back; James reciprocated and wrapped his warm and toned arms around Lily's torso. He knew this was probably being a little cheeky, but she wasn't snapping at him, and it wasn't as if Lily didn't want to hug him, she wrapped her arms around him first, and he kept on telling himself that.

They let go of each other and Lily started to walk toward the barrier, twenty steps away.

"Oi! Lily!" James called out.

"Yes James?" Lily replied, turning around.

"You're not calling me Potter anymore, it's just James." He grinned.

" I 'posse I did, " Lily was also grinning.

"See you in September, Ginger." He called, she wasn't far from the barrier now, only five steps.

"Maybe sooner… Moose."

"Yeah, maybe sooner. And I prefer the name Prongs, not Moose."

"Sure, Prongs." And then she was gone through the barrier and back to the more mundane Muggle world.

James smiled to himself the whole way back to where Sirius Black was standing with two trunks, one belonged to James and the other belonged to Sirius Black.

"So…" Began Sirius. "How did you go with Evans?"

" Lily and I went well." Said James, picking up his trunk as Sirius picked up his own.

"I assumed hat from the smirk on your face, but what happened?"

"SHE LOVES STAGS! Here that, she loves deer, as in stags." James laughed.

"Holy mother of Merlin." Said Sirius.

James gasped. "She wants me. Lily. Evans. Wants. My. Babies. And. Antlers."

"Good for you." Was all Sirius said, shaking his head at his naïve friend. "You know, by antlers that could be a you-know-what metaphor."

James's eyes very nearly popped out of their sockets.

I will give a hi-5 to anyone that can guess what the antlers were a euphemism for.
