I can't believe nearly 10 years have passed since I touched one of these stories. Literally, the last time I even looked at this site I was 14 years old. In the time since I've graduated high school, graduated university and gone on to start another degree and graduate school (Biomedical Engineer = two undergrad degrees and a graduate degree).
My curiosity spiked tonight when I noticed that I am still getting review notifications in my email. I read the most recent review (it wasn't nice, but more on that later) and noticed that I'm still getting a LOT of traffic, especially on Lone Child. Then I thought, these lovely people have been following me for a long time. Maybe I should reward their loyalty with a rewrite?
Let me say again, I was 12 when I started writing Lone Child and 13 when I published it. Personally, I think it was pretty logical and well scripted for someone in the 6th (maybe 7th?) grade. I was writing a character around my own age, so the maturity level made sense to me at the time. As an adult some of it makes me cringe but the bones aren't bad.
So here is what's up: I need to re-read these stories. I know I wrote them but that doesn't mean much after 10 years. I will probably do the re-write as I am re-reading and post as I go. This means that new readers might go from a chapter edited by a 20-something Grad student to one written by a 12 year old. Alternatively, I may leave the old chapters up and just post an updated version of the story on its own. It is really reader's choice so let me know what you want done.
Why a re-write? Partially because I feel like these stories need an adult perspective. The other part is that I am writing two original books. This is a great way to get the creative juices flowing and get word out about my books when they publish, kind of like JBern did. And Cassandra Clare.
Since I did promise to address some of the mean reviews left on my page my 12-year-old self has drafted a response: "Suck a dick. I was one of the smartest in my class but everyone makes grammar mistakes. Also, 12 year olds are invincible and we know everything. Just saying."
My 24-year-old self has also drafted a response: "Suck a dick. This is my world and my characters are what I want them to be. If my 12-year-old self wanted an all-powerful 5-year-old, then so be it. That said, I will look everything over and probably change a few things to make the characters more 'age appropriate and believable'. Maybe..."
Thank you for reading everyone
