Strike Two

Being shot, in any sense of the word, is not a pleasant sensation. Doctor John H. Watson had been unfortunate enough to experience it twice before he had even met London's only consulting detective. True to say, their first conversation was peculiar, perhaps indicative of things to come – fraught with peril though their soon-shared occupation was, Watson found he fit right into the niche he had found himself.

Sometimes he pondered what might have happened had he not hidden his first wound, which had indirectly led to the second and his discharge from military service, but chose not to question.
