Chapter seven: Feather.
The moon was rising, the sun already said goodbye for the day. The leaves had fallen, meaning the white flakes would come soon. Cold, white flakes that could kill. Mother says it's easy to determine when they would come. The air was hard to breathe, giving a sharp chill. That was the way to tell. We would need to stay inside soon. Wear more clothing, otherwise we'd turn blue, and then eventually our toes would go black and then we'd die. It had happened to many before. Mother's advice, keep by the fire, keep warm and stay together. We could make it through this winter. I better get home, before I turn blue.
Jane was waiting on me, I was sure of it. After a long day, taking a few supplies to the other village; I was returning to my own village. Arms aching from the long loot of things. At least I didn't have to carry the baskets back; but merely a sack of gold, fixed firmly to my belt. Father would be happy, I hoped. He was due back from battle now. He'd been gone a few weeks, and I'd be lying if I said I had missed him. Merely because he never seemed pleased when I returned with a weeks worth of money for food. I was trying my best.
As I walked, swiftly; holding the home made shawl around my shoulders more; I couldn't help but let my eyes scan my surroundings. I was coming up to the docks, where the fishermen would come and leave again with more fish to trade. They weren't due in until tomorrow; for the days business was done. Boats would line the sides of the dock, little wooden things; but they did the job. It should be abandoned, empty, lifeless. For our village gates were being locked within an hour. But, they weren't. Standing on the edge, gazing out to sea, she appeared wistful and seemed to be thinking very seriously about something. Her demeanor was sad, and she was standing very still. Almost statue like. I'd be a fool not to be concerned for her safety. I might have been a mere fifteen year old boy, but any woman willing to stand on the edge - barefoot by the looks of it - and gaze out to the open waters; seemingly lost in a trance, in nothing but a white slip? Of course you'd think the worst. So, silently, and cautiously, I approached her.
"Are you okay?" I asked kindly, and gently. The girl jumped with the sound of my voice, her face turning to look at me. Lilly? What the hell was she doing standing out here in this?! My eyes instantly widened. Her face was stained with tears, and quickly she wiped at them. Taking a small step back from the edge.
"Aleczander... It... It's Edmund."
Edmund? Her brother? He should be back; he was on my father- Oh, no.
My lips parted, realizing what had happened. She let out a breath, and fell to her knees. Breaking down finally. I moved close to her, falling to my own knees and wrapping the shawl around her shoulders. I had to keep her from turning blue. Being blue meant death.
"It's alright, Lilly..." I whispered, running my hand up and down her back. "Things will get better. This sort of thing always happens, remember? They warn all who join the army that they might not return. Your brother accepted that, and I know... It's sad to see them go, but it's the way of life."
She tried to calm her rapid breathing, and flowing tears. "M...M..Mother, Father and G-G-Grace are with his body. I.. I couldn't. I couldn't see his face, and know I'd never see his smile."
"Why did you come here? You know it's not safe, Lily. You could get locked out."
"I like looking at the sea... It's restful, and calm."
"On a good day."
She muffled a laugh, and leant into me; wrapping her arms around me tightly while she sobbed into my shoulder. We sat there for a good five minutes, until I finally managed to convince her into returning back to my home, and to sit with Jane and myself. If there were deaths, father would be out late tonight. Having to write on parchment what happened, and a certify their death within the community, along with arranging the funeral.
She stayed late that night. When the moon was at its highest. That's when she left, when I walked her home; but kept well away from the crowded square. I didn't wish to hear who else had lost their life at battle. And I was sure neither did Lilianna. We trudged along, until finally coming to the corner of her home. I stayed back, for I knew her family wasn't too fond of me, nor my sister. That didn't stop the two daughters from seeing us, of course.
"Thank you for walking me home." Lilianna smiled, her tears now being all dried. I had a feeling as soon as I left, she would return to crying. She just had that look within her eye.
"I couldn't let you walk home alone," I replied, giving a sympathetic smile of my own. "I'll see you in the morning, Lily. Goodnight."
I turned to leave, but a hand on my shoulder stopped me.
"Aleczander, wait."
Turning again, I set eyes onto her face once again.
"I owe you... At the dock, I don't know what I was thinking, or if I was even going to do it bu-"
"Lily, it's fine. You're grieving. Sleep it off, and I'll come see you in the morning."
She nodded, and before I could turn to leave again; she lent forward; pressing her lips to mine. I stood, frozen, unsure of what to do. My first real kiss. Ever. You didn't count kissing your mother, or sister for that matter in this type of thing. A stir was happening within my abdomen, and I felt as though my heart was about to burst out of its chest cavity. As quickly as it began, it was over; but it left the warm sensation behind. She held my eyes with her own for a matter of seconds, before she dashed off into her wooden home. With nothing else keeping me there, apart from the total astonishment as to what had just happened, I began to shuffle home; just as the sky began to spit little white flakes...
Pressing matters were adding up, and slowly I was beginning to equal things together. Why else would Aro place a bed into my room? It didn't take a mastermind to know that he intended for Renesmee and myself to stay within the same quarters, and as amazing as it sounded; there were alternative motives. He had already stated that he wanted her to join, I figured that much out — it was just the others I was confused about; the untalented ones — but this? This was taking it a bit too far. Her family would be attending; her friends, and worse... My sister would be next door! How the hell could I explain this too her? Yes, she said she would let her live, but that didn't mean she liked the prospect of an 'us.' I managed to worm my way out of Renesmee's eyes; letting her explore my dormitory while I walked the corridors once more. I needed answers, and a sight into what Aro was thinking. It was something I never usually dared do; but this one thing had gotten me. Surely he would know Jane would flip? Then again... She was his pet. She would practically do anything to keep him happy. Even if it meant enduring the fact her brother was sharing a room with someone/something she hated.
As I passed a few faces, more guests; settling into the lower rooms with their mates, and coven members, I couldn't help but dismiss the stench growing more and more as I moved closer to the reception area. That could only mean one thing...
"Leech."
I slowed my pace on the staircase; crimson eyes meeting a tall, russet brown male; with eyes as dark as the night. Resting on the scattered sofas in the reception were other, half dressed, lanky males; comfortable as much as they could be in a castle full of vampires. The one who addressed me, was none other than Renesmee's mongrel himself.
"Jacob." I greeted as monotonously as usual. "I would say it's a pleasure to see you again, but I'd be lying."
His lip quirked, perhaps a little scoff given. "Ditto, bloodsucker. Where is Nessie?"
My jaw clenched as I continued down the stairs, coming to a halt at the bottom.
"Nessie, whom?"
"You know who I mean." He snapped; and from the bottom of my eye, I could see his hand clenching. Was I pissing the wolf boy off? Well, good. I hadn't irritated someone like this in a long time. Annoying them with my presence, and taking a great deal of amusement out of it. It felt good. For me, of course. For him, I could see the rage flaring in his dark eyes.
"Reny is settling in. Getting comfortable until her birthday. I shall inform her you are here when I return to her side."
"The hell you will," Jacob went to step forward to make his way up the stairs; but I stepped in front of him.
"Ah, ah, ah." I smiled, malicious amusement all over my face. "Does Aro know you are here?"
"You're kidding right?" He scoffed, glaring down at me. "Course he does. We're just waiting for an 'audience' with your royal highness, or whatever. Check in at 'el grande bloodsucker hotel.'"
"El Grande is Spanish," I corrected. "Italian, it would be 'il grand' lupo ragazzo. You should read up your Italian more." I arched an eyebrow, as to which he took a step back. The others eyes were on us, and watching curiously as to what was happening. Well, if it wasn't obvious. I was smart mouthing Renesmee's imprinter. Not that I gave a crap.
"Take a seat, Jacob. I will inform Aro you are waiting. Then you can see Renesmee."
He huffed, but took a seat anyway. Natalia greeted me in Italian, and informed me that Jane and Demetri had been ordered to take a group of coven's to their dorms. That, I would have loved to have seen. Jane being ordered to help? No doubt she was cursing, the fact she was playing bell girl, or whatever. Demetri? Well, I figured he'd find the chance to sweet talk some nomad immortals into sharing a closet or dorm with him; so he wouldn't complain much.
Pushing the throne room doors open just enough for me to slide in. Didn't want them to see the masterpiece of the great hall too early, did I? Securing it shut, I turned to meet Aro speaking to a few other covens. The Irish coven being among them.
A few eyes turned to look at me as I entered, but other than that; they kept their attention on Aro while a few of the guards continued to put up decorations; and whatnot.
"I thank you all for joining us here for this marvelous event." Aro was saying, as I slipped to the side; keeping my back to the wall to observe. "I realize it was on short notice, but your presence is highly appreciated."
"You didn't give us much choice, Aro." One said, his arms crossed. Clearly, he wasn't amused to be here. Well, his statement was true. Aro didn't give any choice. If so much as one vampire being wasn't present for this celebration; there would be consequences. Even nomads were turning up; ones who had no real address to send an invitation too. I presumed they merely heard that all vampires were to come to this gathering; and tagged along for they didn't wish to be punished.
"Even so," Aro paused, drumming his fingers against the armrest of his throne. "You are now a part of such a grand event. I trust that you all understand there will be human's present?"
A shuffled mumble of nods and 'yes's' took place.
"And you all fed well?"
Again, mumbled yes's.
"Perfect. Your bags will be delivered to your assigned rooms for this weekend in due time. Please, make your way to the side where Decibel will take your name, and the amount within your coven. Then, wait in the next room for Santiago, Corin, Chelsea, Demetri, Jane or Felix to come and take you to your rooms. I hope you have a pleasent stay."
The group shuffled to the side, allowing me my chance to move forward. Aro's beaming smile moved to me, for he was watching the large quantity of numbers moving to the human with the clipboard.
"Alec, my boy." He greeted. "You are quite the celebrity today, child."
My eyebrows creased. "How so, master?"
"A few have asked if you are here, present within the castle."
Odd.
"What is it the human's call them these days, Caius?" Aro then spoke, his head turning to the side to the white haired immortal. My eyes drifted also.
"Fangirls, I believe."
"Indeed!" He chuckled. "A whole coven of them. You are quite the talk today, my boy."
I smirked a little, and corrected my pose; hands behind my back and eyes up. "The wolves are outside, master. They wished me to inform they were waiting."
He gave a small nod, but could see that wasn't all that was on my agenda.
"Also," He pressed, waiting for me to continue.
"Also, there seems to be a bed placed within my dorm..." I stated, though, made it seem like a question.
"Ah, yes. Quite the choice. The finest mattress, and silken sheets. Egyptian cotton, I believe."
"What is it for, master?" I cut to the point.
The three leaders shared a glance, Caius cracked a malicious smile, and Aro let out a chuckle. An insane one at that.
"For you and Renesmee, of course."
Well, I knew that! I wasn't that much of a fool. I kept my emotionless face on, while Aro surveyed me.
"I presumed you and the hybrid would wish to share, given you have been apart for all this time." Aro went on to explain. "It seemed only natural for you both to share, given your updated relationship status."
Updated relationship status? Had Aro gone techno? Speaking in... What was it Nathan said again? Oh, yes! Speaking of Facebook terms and whatnot now?
"But master..." I questioned, pausing for him to finish chuckling. "Is that wise, with her family arriving shortly?"
"Alec," Aro pressed, raising his hand and motioning for me to come closer. I did. Taking two small steps up the stairs to his throne; where he rested the hand onto my shoulder. "Their family is aware of your actions with her, and they must have grown to accept it if they have allowed her to come see you without them?"
True.
"It may come as a surprise to them, but she is a grown woman now. She can now make her own choices in life, and if being with you is what she chooses to do so, then they cannot stop her."
I could sense he was hinting at something other than merely sharing a bed with me...
"So, do not worry my boy. I will be sure to resolve the problem. Now, go tell the Quileute tribe to enter now."
I nodded, firm and quick. Turning on my heel, I walked back towards the large doors. Stepping out, I cleared my throat.
"You're welcome to enter now."
"About time." One wolf muttered, while I stepped out the way to allow them access. The long legged mongrels began to pull themselves up, and I had noticed a single female among them. Keeping very close to Mr. Black himself. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, along with the left side of my lips to quirk skyward. Jacob caught it, and I received a glare.
"Something amusing, leech?"
"Very." I replied, my smile only growing. "So worried as to where Renesmee is, and yet you have your own female, one of the same species."
"Renesmee isn't the same as your species." He spat back, taking a step closer to me. I couldn't help but to glare back at him.
"She's closer to what I am, than what she is to you... Mutt."
Jacob let out a small growl, and raised his hand for a slight moment. Was he really stupid enough to try this again? After the small... Well, I wouldn't really call it a fight, for a fight implies the possibility of either party winning, and Jacob didn't stand a chance. So, after that small misunderstanding in the forest in Forks. I let my lips curve even more as his hand raised; and just as he was about to bring it back down; just as I was about to show him what a true strike could be, he stopped at the sound of a voice. Cold. Full of malice. Hard, and chilling.
"I wouldn't do that, if you value your life."
Eyes flicked towards the small female coming down the narrow corridor; dressed in clad black, hair tied back into a sleek bun, and lips in a firm line, yet I could see the hint of a sadistic smile.
I heard a small muffle behind Jacob, and then a stern 'shut up' from one of the others. Clearly a conflict going on with two of the other wolves. I didn't move my eyes from Jane, however. Jacob took a step back, while Jane moved to my side.
"Is there a problem, brother?" Jane questioned, her gaze meeting mine after a few tasteful seconds.
"Oh, no. Jacob and I were merely... Chatting."
She let a small scoff part her lips, before giving a nod and turning back to look at the pack of dogs. "You best not keep Aro waiting. He isn't a patient person."
The group of wolves mumbled, but began to pile into the throne room. The door was closed behind them, leaving Jane and me in silence. She brushed down her dress, cleared her throat and tilted her head in my direction. "You are without your..."
"Renesmee. Yes." I answered for her, seeing as I could tell she was struggling for words. I know the whole 'boyfriend, girlfriend' prospect wasn't something Jane would say, at all. If anything, the closest thing Jane would say to that would be lover, or mate. And both... Well, you can probably understand why she would not say those things.
"Is she settled within her dorm?"
Jane didn't know? Well, this was going to be fun and a half!
"About that, Jane. There's something I have to te-"
My words were cut off before I could finish. Demetri emerged from a door, a little down the corridor. His voice firm, and professional as he called upon my sister. Our attention snapped to him, while he nodded for her to join. Behind him, the group that had just been in with Aro.
"Excuse me brother." Jane noted, moving up; while I leant down somewhat for her to press a kiss to my cheek. Jane set off down the corridor where Demetri stood waiting for her. The moment her small, petite form came close to his; they began on. Leading the group; practically taking a taste in what Heidi does for a living, only instead of delivering dinner, they were taking coven after coven of immortal vampires, to join in the celebration of Renesmee's birthday.
I watched as head, after head, after head filtered out and went down the corridor; some smiling, others keeping a brave straight face. Red eyes would now and then turn to me, giving me a glance over and then return back to following the two leaders. Well, all but one pair of eyes. They stayed connected with mine; watching me intently as they walked. She was small, but tall at the same time. Thin, and petite. Her hair was long and blonde, her lips plush and red. She broke the connection when a purple haired female spoke to her, and then they all vanished around the corner to another set of stairs. It was only when all of them had vanished that I let out a breath and looked towards Natalia, who had also been watching the immortals. Seemed only deeming, considering she herself wished to be one.
Her attention shifted to me, and gave a smile; while her eyelashes fluttered. "Is there anything I can do for you, master Alec?" Her voice brushed out; seductive and suggestive.
I couldn't help but break a small smile. "Have food sent to my dorm, Natalia. Renesmee has not eaten in a while."
"As you wish, but.." I was walking away, though when the word 'but' pressed on, I stopped and turned to look at her. Eyebrow arched for her to continue her sentence.
"Miss Cullen is not in your dorm, sir."
I frowned almost instantly. "Then where is she?"
"On the security camera's, she was walking down the stairs, and off down the corridor. Second floor."
"Where is she now?" I moved closer to the desk, leaning against it and peering at her screens. She instantly began to type in code, the captions on the screen scanning quickly for motion and activity. It came to a halt after a good few seconds, showing her standing outside the music room, speaking to a nomad. I pursed my lips, and nodded at the raven haired girl.
"Thank you. Have the meal sent up in an hour." I pretty much ordered; and she nodded; making a quick note of it on a piece of paper. "Have a pleasant day."
"You too, sir!" She called after me, for I was already walking up the steps, and moving through the corridors. Each corridor I passed, faces would be moving into their rooms, or standing in the corridor speaking to other immortals of a different coven. They moved out the way as I stalked along, of course. But I didn't disturb their days. I might have gotten a few glares, that was expected, for my reputation wasn't really that of a 'good' one.
As I came to the corridor Renesmee was last seen in, on the cameras, I came to a stop and pushed the music room door open. Sitting happily at the piano, was Renesmee. Watching intently as a nomad played her a tune. I closed the door behind me, though neither looked up to see who the newcomer was. I figured Renesmee could have guessed, for her heart beat rose a fraction. As the melody drew to a close, the immortal looked up and smiled.
"Now, I'm not as good as your father, or yourself. But I'm not half bad, eh?" The male chuckled, eyes locking with Renesmee's as she grinned.
"It was amazing. Just a few minor mistakes here or there, but otherwise great!"
"Couldn't have done it without you," the male winked, eyes finally moving to me and his face falling. Renesmee must have noticed also, for she too looked and gave a grin.
"I was just teaching my new friend a song."
"How nice of you," I praised, while the boy stood up; eyes still on me.
He was late teens, or early twenties. He couldn't be any younger than eighteen, or any older than twenty one. He was tall, almost taller than myself. His hair was blonde, and somewhat messy. That's the style these days, isn't it? What is it they call it again? Bed hair? I couldn't care enough to think of the correct term, if that wasn't it. His eyes were a rich crimson, showing he was well fed, like Aro had ordered. His dress sense was that of any normal teenage male. A black shirt, and a pair of dark blue jeans. The only thing I'd say that was odd, was the bright red converse on his feet. Whatever floats his boat. A defined jawline, and high cheekbones; full lips and long lashes. Immortality had done him well. He wasn't what you would call a 'normal' looking immortal. A male Rosalie Hale, perhaps? I couldn't help but scoff; causing Renesmee to arch an eyebrow at me confused.
"You're... You're A-A.." He stuttered, trying to get his words out. Fear? I wasn't so sure. Perhaps, it had been a while since I had last made sure fear was inflicted by my name, or presence. Perhaps he had just learnt of my past; for he didn't seem to be one of those immortals who had been around for quite some time. He seemed like a newbie. Not a newborn; but not old.
"Alec." I finished, raising my head a little. His eyes swarmed in a dance. Odd. So many things seemed to be going on inside that little head of his.
"This is Scott," Renesmee but in, seeing as this male showed no attempt of trying to speak again. Perhaps he was afraid to go into another stuttering fit? "He's here with his sisters."
"Ah," I nodded, moving out a hand. He looked at it, then to me, and then my hand again. Shakily, he took it. "You're Jane's brother..."
I nodded, giving a firm shake before letting his hand fall. "Indeed."
"Is she... H-h-here too?"
"Somewhere. Showing other guests to their rooms. She does reside here, after all." I answered, receiving a glare from Renesmee. Did she think that as rude? Sorry to disappoint. Not.
"Is she as... how people say she is?"
"That would depend. What do people say she is?" I queried, an eyebrow kinking. The boy looked lost for words, trying to come up with something. I smirked, while my hands found their place behind my back.
"I would not go looking for her, if that is what you are meaning."
He nodded, and quickly looked to Renesmee. She smiled, and he returned his eyes to me.
"It was a pleasure meeting you. Really." He said, eyes boring into my own. "I'll let you two be. Have a great day. See you around, maybe? Or maybe not... Hopefully though." Scott rambled while moving to the door, he pulled it open; and just as he pulled it closed; he sighed to himself 'Wow. I met Alec, freaking hell.'
I rolled my eyes, and returned them to Reny. She was giggling, her hand at her mouth.
"Looks like you have a fan." She giggled, a thread of her hair falling in front of her face. I moved forward, my hand idly brushing it behind her ear as her hand fell from her face.
"Mm, so it seems. I've heard that on more than one occasion." I chuckled, leaning down and letting out lips brush for the first time since the ally in Verona. Pulling away, Renesmee grinned up at me. Her dark eyes alive with devilish intent.
"Why did you leave the room?" I asked, letting a hand rest on her cheek.
"When Aro said music room, I wanted to explore. I am still allowed aren't I? Or.. Am I to say in the bedroom.." She grinned, the later statement not entirely sounding like a bad thing.
"You can explore all you wish, my dear."
"I know what I'd like to explore.." Renesmee implied, and it was only then that I realized her hands were tugging at my belt buckle. I couldn't help but let out a laugh, bringing out lips together once again. Just a savoury kiss, allowing myself to dive in the serenity of being in her presence again. When I pulled away, she kept her eyes closed and let out a breath.
"You have no idea how much I've missed you." Whispered Renesmee, quiet and full of emotion. My lips twitched into a loving smile, while my thumb brushed her cheek gently.
"And I you. Each and every moment of our time away from one another, my mind was on you."
"Forever." She added, pulling me into a tight hug and holding me. I never wished to leave her arms. I could stay lost in this moment forever. I wanted too. But, and I really hated this but, we would have to leave soon. It was going to be a long weekend, after all. It was me who broke the hug, and supplied a kiss onto her forehead.
"Since we are here, you may as well play me something." I urged, taking her hand and leading her back to the seat she was at with Scott. Resting down, with her at my side; she blushed a bright red.
"I couldn't..."
"You play," I noted. "So show me."
"I really shouldn't.."
"Please?" I asked, my hand leading hers to the keys. She let out a breath, and then nodded.
"Okay. But... Don't laugh."
"Never." I smiled, letting my hands fall to my lap as I watched her flex her fingers, readying herself to play. She let out a breath, and tested the keys. Then she began.
Her fingers moved slowly, allowing the soft tune to fill the room. It was calming, and light. Although it should seem like a happy song, as she was using the lighter keys, rather than the deep, low ones. It wasn't. The tune was meaningful, and I got the impression of pain, and heartache from it. It took me back to a time I had last felt. Before now, now that my feelings were well and truly back. But the beginning of the whole 'emotionless' escapade I dived into. The last feelings I had, before I entered the world of being numb.
The ground made a sleek 'crunch', twigs snapped and gentle prints were left scorned into the ground under the pressure of my feet. Across the dismal land suffocating me was nothing. Lifeless. Dead. Cold. Just like I was. It was hard to look yourself in the face and realise all you had thought you were - or in my case; once were - was a lie. Everything you believed in yourself turned out to be a complete lie. A mask of the kind.
The date was...
Lord, it had been so long since I had taken any real interest in the date. What use was what day or year to me anyway? If I were to live for the rest of eternity; then what was so special about today? About that day? What was so special about now? Nothing. That's what I told myself. Over and over. Day by day. How long had it been since I had left Aro? When was I actually to go back and meet them? I don't know why he sent me here. Well, he didn't. I was merely to pass through. But surely he could have expected me to stop by and remember. It had merely been a few weeks, a few months at tops, that I had lived here. That my life had ended here; that everything ended here...
Mere months beforehand I had lived happily on this very field. I wasn't a emotionless ghost of my former self. I wasn't twisted and tainted with the unquenching need for human blood. I wasn't dead mere months ago. I was human. When my life was so full of problems and yet they were nothing compared to the problems and troubles I had now. This field. This large pathway of memories of which I found myself standing on the outskirts of had my legs shaking. This place was once thriving with life. Large pillars would be where he was standing now. A guard would be walking around, hand on his sword at all times.
The air used to choke with smoke from fires burning freely in the wind to keep residents warm, or to begin a witch trial, and laughter that brought any saddened or depressed man up. Now that heightened air was silent. Still. Cold. It now stood as a wasteland. The village was indeed gone, like Aro had said it was. Everything, every trace of my human life was mere rubble, and black ash. Burnt to the ground, not a single trace of a cabin or anything. No livestock of pigs nor sheep, no blacksmith at the edge of the street, wielding away happily to make armor or weapons for the soldiers. Not even a single cart of apples, that I had made sure we walked by so I could purchase one before our two hours of lessons in school. Everything, from the homes, to the marketplace, to the stakes in the square, was gone.
Aro had been right. When he said I would be leaving my old life behind, he meant everything.
My family, though I didn't care that my father was dead. But my mother. My poor mother... She died here, like I had. Like Jane had. We had died together as a family, only Jane and I were blessed to continue on, and live out life for eternity. Aro was our new father, one that we had never had before. But mother... I would miss her. I would miss her laugh, her smile, the way she would kiss my head while saying goodnight, the way she would hug me if I was being teased, or the way she would tend to my bleeding nose after another fight in defending my little sister. My friends... Lily, the sweet girl I had become so close to, the girl who told me everything, shared everything, and always looked up to me, no matter what rumors were going around about me. And Grace... My Grace. My one and only. The girl I would have taken a blade for. My love for her, my devotion to her back then was so strong; I wished I could have begged for Aro to spare her life also. To spare them both. But, to have to good, or the great; you had to endure the worst. Meaning losing everything that ever had meaning to me.
The ground, which I lent down and grazed with my hand, touching the very soil I once sat, laughed and ran across with my bare feet when in a game with my sister, or with Lily, left indications of foul play. The grass that once spread across this wasteland crisp. All gone. Everything was black. The vibrant green colour I could remember so vaguely was gone. Only a memory. Now, in its place was browns and blacks. The marks of fire and destruction. The air was drenched with dry blood, sweat, pain and smoke. The very stench of it burned my nostrils.
Resting my crimson eyes on the perimeter, I let them scan across; and imagine if everything was back in place. The streets, the people, the houses; the market place. Standing, I began to make my way through the remains of a street. Shadows and dances of people flew by me, getting on with their day. I followed a trail, an invisible trail, one that lead down towards my home. Passed the apple cart, passed the blacksmith; onward to the square and a little to the right. And there it was; nothing but ruins. Burnt wood, crisp grass; a real broken home. This was the last place I saw my mother happy. The last place I had seen Jane happy. The last place I had been happy. Mother was putting the plates and whatnot away; while Jane was slipping on her nightdress. 'You be sure you have a good nights rest. Your father will be home soon and he will want to see you sleeping when he comes home. A big day tomorrow!' she chimed with laughter; unknown to the fact that this... Big day, was closer than what she expected. And the reason for it being so big, was because it was us who were the main event. She screamed, and kicked, and fought to get to us as we were dragged from our beds. I could still hear her voice, calling on me, calling on Jane. Pleading to let her children go. I wanted my mother, I wanted her to take us away, and stop these men hurting us. I wanted my mummy...
Gritting my teeth, I shook my head. Not liking the burning sensation going on in my eyes. Letting the red slits of my eyes rest on the home once more, I moved on; through the invisible streets. A last remembrance if you would. I took step after step into the valley that I once considered home but more or less was turning out to be the eternal bed of my friends and family. As I walked across the abandoned field, my blood stained eyes scanned the floor. Picking out things that were not supposed to be there. Burnt wood from cabins, mostly.
A glimmer was what caught my eye next.
I froze. My inner animal instinct taking over. Danger? I sniffed the air to be sure. I heightened out my ears to pick up any sound. Nothing. I was alone. Setting eyes on the glimmer in the distance once more. Again, it shone. Squinting my eyes a little, I soon realised it was something buried within the path of dirt and burnt out coal.
I set on towards it. Slowly at first, then maintained a gentle pace. Soon, I came to it. Crouching down into a squatting position, my hands dangling between my separated legs. Brushing the fingers of my left hand across the finely ruined earth, I found the source of light. My still heart felt - metaphorically - a little leap of life. A glimmer of hope for a ever bound emotionless being?
Buried within the memories of this field lay a little silver bracelet; with a carved out feather dangling from it. Picking the metal up into my hand completely, I brushed my thumb across the flat surface of the delicately carved bracelet. Clearing the last reminder of my humanity of the dirt. I knew this bracelet. I had gotten it... After a lot of convincing the blacksmith to make me it. It had been Liliana's birthday present. She never took it off. My heart broke in that instant. As if it finally came crumbling down on me that she, that they all, were really gone. My eyes had closed, and I hadn't realized until a voice called out to me.
"Alec?"
Looking over my shoulder; the imagination of the cabins and marketplace vanishing. Revealing me to be in nothing but a burnt out wasteland. Jane was there, her hand held out to me, her hair in soft curls. Aro was there also, with Jane behind him; one hand holding onto his robes, Caius and Marcus; high upon their horses. Aro's eyes were sympathetic, and calm. I stood slowly, the metal still in my hand.
"Come, my son. We're returning home." Aro called this time, his own hand moving out for me. I nodded, and was there in a flash. Caius helped me up onto the back of his horse; and then set off; leaving the wasteland behind me. I took a glance back, bidding my humanity, everything that I had once been a farewell. I let my eyes fall to the bracelet in my hand; gave it a small squeeze, and then let it fall to the floor below...
I left England that day, and had only ever been back once. When Aro had wished to see Romeo and Juliet being played out. Even then, it was nowhere near where my village had once been. We were really only there for one day; so that didn't truly count as me being... there. I don't think. It was so long ago. Too long ago to even remember really.
"Well?" Reny smiled, her fingers now having come to a stop. "What did you think?"
I opened my eyes, and let them move to her; my hand moving to hers and taking it gently. "It was beautiful." Bringing her hand to my lips, I pressed a gentle kiss onto her hand. I had come a long way since the beginning of my emotionless state. Now, I was in love. In love with an amazing creature, for whatever reason, loved me back. This was something I wouldn't part with, not willingly.
"Lets go to bed, my darling." I breathed, taking her hand fully in mine and interlocking our fingers. "You've had a long day, and you must rest."
She nodded, and followed me out; up the corridors and stairs and into our room, where she undressed, and clothed herself in one of my shirts; and rested down next to me. Head resting onto my chest, arms around me, and a content smile on her lips. Idly, my hands brushed through her hair. I was finally back in the once place I belonged to be. Beside my Reny.

Cold, saddened eyes watched as the boy moved through the wasteland of their home, reminiscing about the good, hard, sad and scary times. Much like she had many a time in the past. Her saviour let her. She let her come here, and remember her past. Let her come, as long as she stayed close. But what she didn't know, wouldn't hurt her. She was too busy trying to plan things. Though, it was early days; she was planning for the future. However long in the future, Lilianna didn't know. She was just a girl, a girl trying to reunite with her love. With her heart. And he was here, so close she could smell his divine scent. She would have gone in, she would have showed herself to him; if he hadn't of picked something up and looked as though he was about to cry. If... If they could still cry. This world was still confusing to her. Her saviour hadn't taught her everything yet. But she was learning, day by day. Today, was her break. Where she could go; and remember her sisters. Oh, little Annabeth. Just a child; they took her from Lillianna. They took Grace, and her mother, and her father. And just... killed them. A small child, a blooming girl... They stole them all and left her with nothing. If it hadn't been for her saviour, she would have met the same fate. Sometimes, she wished she had. Sometimes, she wishes she could go back and be taken with them. So she could enter gods gates with her sisters, mother and father, and see her brother again. Be welcomed with open arms, and be able to hug them all. But they were waiting on her, she knew that. They were watching over her, and they would want her to be alive... If this is what alive meant. They would want her to chase after the only happiness she could get. And he was here; being called upon by... Jane! She too! This is the first sighting of the twins Lilianna had gotten since that terrible day where they were torn from her. Where everything was ripped from her grasp. She watched as Alec moved away; getting on the back of a horse and dropping the thing he had been in a trance with. Just like that, he was gone. They all were. And Lilianna was alone again. She moved forward quickly, holding the rim of her dark blue dress; and picked up the shining object he had left behind.
It was hers. He was mourning her. He was sad, but he had let it go. He planned on moving on? Because it was too hard for him to remember he had lost her? They would be together again, she would make sure of it. Just not now. It was too soon. She wasn't done learning, but when she was ready; she would go forth and find him again. Find them both. Clasping the metal bracelet around her wrist; Lillianna was just in time for her name was called out. She turned, eyes meeting the olive skinned saviour. Her hair was long, black and a little matted. Lips full into a smile, piercing eyes calling her to her. She stood, adjusting the bracelet somewhat.
"Come, Lilianna. We're going home now. The Volturi are close. Too close."
"Yes, Maria."
A hand ran across the wooden oak of the room he was in, with her. Listening how he breathed, how he smelt; and even though he was with her - she found peace that he was calm and happy. He would only feel more so when he saw her. She knew of it. It wasn't the time back then, but it was now. Their time was now, and would forever be onward. Some hybrid was not stealing this away from her. Alec had always meant to have been hers. It is why she left Maria in the early 1800's, it is why she set on, moving from coven to coven. Nomad to nomad. And now, she finally had a coven of her own. One, they he and Jane would join. They had too.
With a final breath, Lilianna moved away from Alec's door and moved on down the stairs; her long blonde hair flowing behind her. "Rest well, my love." She whispered, too low for even any vampire to hear. "I'm here for you... Finally."
Liliana, and her family... Were here.

Reviews people! Show me how much you want this story to continue! They really do help muse wise. Otherwise, I'm writing this for nothing, huh? I write for you guys! So, any hopes as to what might happen? Give me a review. It's real easy. Right at the bottom, type in what you thought of it! It's that simple! Gonna hold a competition again soon. Once I get my mind set on what I can give you guys in return for this competition.
So, Lily's there. Dun, dun, dun. Anyone smell drama? And what do we think of her creator? Who knew that Lilianna was created by the same woman as Renesmee's uncle Jaz! Oooooooh!
Review your thoughts? Pretty please with cherries on top?
I love you all.
