Chapter sixteen: You are mine.

The moment our lips touched, a fire ignited within me. My stomach flipped, my heart sped up at an alarming rate, and tingles ran through every nerve ending within my body. How could the smallest of physical contact cause such an effect? It was just two measly mouths touching one another in the lightest of pecks.

And yet, it felt amazing.

Why didn't the adults do this? They were free too, weren't they? They were married after all. I hated myself of thinking such a thing, but I was a fifteen year old boy. If this was what kissing was like, I anticipated what sex was. The shenanigans that went on behind the married household to produce an offspring. Surely, if lips were involved, along with other parts, the sensation should only amplify?

Lily pulled away after three seconds of the polite little peck. Her eyes fluttered open, and she smiled sheepishly at me. Her cheeks were scarlet, and I could just make out the smallest of dimples in her rosey cheeks.

I took a small breath, my eyes flicking to each and every construct that built up her facial features. What the hell was that?

She brushed her fingers over her lips, and then reached out to brush them over mine. I continued to stare. Blink, and stare some more.

"That was like... Magic." She giggled, returning her hand back to her own lips.

"It was not," I snapped back, rather defensively. "It wasn't magic at all."

Magic was a sour subject with me. It always had been. With the rumours that lingered around the village, of Jane and I being witches, of course it would be sour. Anyone who had the slightest suspicion to witchcraft would lead to their unavoidable death. We had been the talk for almost several years now, and how we had survived this long without a mob coming for us, I wouldn't understand. I was thankful, but I didn't understand. I supposed they just didn't have enough evidence for a conviction.

And they never would, because Jane and I were normal. We were just kids. Just like all the others.

Lily's eyes saddened in the slightest as she looked to her feet, and she puffed out a sigh.

"Oh," she sounded almost defeated. "Maybe we didn't do it right?"

The hope returned to her eyes as they found mine once more.

"How couldn't we have? It's pretty simple." I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest.

She frowned, looked over her shoulder and then back towards me. She didn't breathe a word, instead she slipped up onto her tiptoes; grabbed my cheeks and forced my face to hers. With her mouth on mine, this kiss was a little more harsh and rough. But the sensations were back, and magnified. I practically melted there and then, my eyes fluttering to their own close.

She was definitely an odd one. Very stubborn, and liked to get what she wanted. That was Lilianna down to a tee. Evidently, in that moment she wanted me to feel this 'magic.' It wasn't magic what I was feeling. There was no such thing as magic, but there was desire. And right now, I felt as though I was going to explode.

What the hell were these feelings, and why did I feel so warm all of a sudden?

She pulled away; her hands still on my face; still rather rough. So much so, that my face was practically squished up so that I was pouting like a fish.

"Magic now?"

I shook my head at her.

She let out an angry sigh, and just when I thought she was going to go back in; a man's voice bellowed.

"Aleczander!"

My head snapped to the side, out of her hold. He was home? When did he get back? I had heard he wasn't due back in the village for another three days. I could only imagine the excitement Jane must be going through. Despite the fact our father rarely showed any affection towards us, Jane adored our father.

I looked towards Lily once again, my eyes a little wide. She grabbed my hand and began to pull me along; following where the voice had come. Just as we came to the tree edge, she let go of my hand and smiled politely to the tall, dark figure standing on the pathway. His arms crossed, and a very bemused look on his face. Almost like a scowl. He was in a good mood. That was a first.

"You're home early, sir." I mused, stepping down from the ledge of the treelines; my feet hitting against the path and making a small 'crunch' against the stones. Lilianna's feet did the same.

My father's eyes flicked between the two of us, but more so lingered on me more than her.

"You were told not to pass the village walls after noon, boy." Victor stated in a strict voice.

"... Mother told me to check the lake. I didn't realize the time." Automatically, I looked up to the sky and noticed that the sun was indeed at it's highest point of the day. Noon. Well, crap.

"It was my fault. I kept him longer than what he should have been. I'm sorry," Lilianna chipped in, only now did I realize she was pretty much hiding behind me. I couldn't really blame her. My father wasn't exactly the most welcoming looking man. Standing at around 6'3, with long brown hair and a build like a muscular dragon, it was only natural she be a little intimidated. He was a soldier, after all. Expected to be fearful.

He glared down at her, and shifted the glare onto me.

"Time for you to say goodbye to your friend, Aleczander. You and I are going for a walk."

We were?

"We are?" I voiced my thoughts.

"Don't question me, boy."

I turned to look at Lily, and she smiled apologetically.

"I'll see you later." She spoke lightly, and quietly.

I nodded my head, for I felt that was all I could do in response. Gripping the hem of her dress, she began to walk past my father.

"Goodbye mister Cecil, sir."

Father didn't so much as answer. He just kept his glare on me.

Once she was past the large wooden gate in the village walls, set up to protect the town, my father began to walk. Of course, he expected me to follow. And so I did. Keeping some small distance between us. He might be in what I considered a 'good mood' opposed to his usual moods, but that didn't mean things couldn't get nasty real quickly.

I knew I should be a little thankful at the fact my father was taking the time to walk with me, perhaps even exchange some words other than insults, but I couldn't help but slightly curse him for it. Lilianna had kissed me... Twice. And she had gone in for a third, and probably would have achieved it seeing as I didn't put much of a fight up, if it hadn't had been for his interruption. I kinda, sorta, maybe wished that he hadn't have interrupted. I wanted her to kiss me again...

Her lips were just as soft as I had remembered. They were a little more persistent than what they had been. More knowing, and unshy. Her touch on my face was soft, and gentle. Not at all as rough as they had once been while forcing my mouth to hers; even though that was exactly what she was doing.

Her teeth pried my mouth open, a small whimper leaving in a plea, and once they succeeded; her tongue began to dance across mine. I was frozen on the spot. Lost within the memory of how this once had felt. How this once had been what I thought about at night, figuring that if it had felt that way with Lilianna, what it would have been like with Grace.

A hand was now at the nape of my neck, pulling me more to her; forcing my posture closer to hers as she hungrily ate at my lips.

And yet, I couldn't help but notice... I felt nothing.

Not a single thing. No spark that had once been there. No fluttering in my stomach. No burning tingles throughout my body. I was numb again, and I didn't like it. This wasn't at all how it felt with... Reny.

A hand that was on the wall moved to her hair quickly, and gripped onto it. She seemed to have taken it as an act of wanting more, for the moan that vibrated through my open mouth. This wasn't at all how it was like with Renesmee. With Renesmee, everything within me came to life. Not just nerves, but senses. She left me burning with desire, craving more and somehow always leaving me breathless. She was the girl I was meant to be locking lips with. Not this girl. Never this girl.

I pulled her head away from mine with her hair. Her eyes opened, and gazed at me with a lustful look in her bright red eyes. Swollen lips still parted as she let out a husky breath.

Creaaaak.

Our attentions caught on instantly, causing our heads to snap and turned in sync, only to see the door leading back into the castle corridor closing.

Someone had saw.

With no other thought, I took off after it. Whoever had dared to interrupt, who had seen what they shouldnt, was going to explain themselves; right before I tore them limb from limb.

"Aleczander," I could hear Lilianna calling behind me as I set on after the fleeing silhouette. Try as it may, I was in no mood for chasing games. Lilianna was clearly right behind me, protesting for me to stop.

But I couldn't. This person had viewed something they shouldn't. Something that could possibly ruin everything I had created over my lifespan. My reputation, for starters. And of course, my relationship with Renesmee.

With that spurring me on, my hands clenched tighter together into fists as I leapt forward and caught the figure. It stumbled to the floor, but still tried to put up a fight. Once it was in my hands, there was no point. It was done for. Or, should I say; she was done for.

Turning her over, and pinning her down by her throat, I could see everything as my eyes adjusted to the dim light.

Terror was in her dark red eyes. Skin was chalk white. She was petite below me, so much so that I could see the collarbones sticking out under her green shirt with some kind of monster on the front. Her knees, clothed by tight black denim, were bend in the slightest; while her hands were flat against the stone floor. But what got me was the sleek and silky dark hair, being obscured by a bright purple flash in her bangs.

I knew this girl. She was the one in the hallway, looking for her brother.

"You." I frowned, eyes flicking across her face.

"Me," she replied in an attempt at a smile.

"Aleczander, please; let her go." Lilianna's voice chimed in my ear. It was then I had noticed she was on the floor just above the girl under me. Arms out on her shoulders, and looking at me with a desperate look.

"Eavesdropping is a crime," I warned; though I wasn't entirely sure if that was indeed a crime. Never the less, I didn't like it. Hell, I had killed people for less! "What were you doing down there?"

"I-I'm sorry. I was just... I was exploring, and and... I came down here and saw you two." The girl stuttered constantly. "I didn't see a lot, I promise. I won't say anything."

"Please, Alec." My eyes snapped up towards Lilianna in that moment. "She's my sister."

Sister?

Lilianna's sisters were both dead; but then I had to think of the fact Carlisle had done the very same. Adopted all those obtuse imbeciles as his own, which they openly called one another 'siblings.' But now that I was to look at this with a somewhat open mind; I could see it.

I could see exactly why she called her sister, rather than coven mate - if Lilianna even had a coven. Up until now, I was positive she had been on she had been on her own. This girl, even with the bright flare of purple in her hair, resembled someone greatly. Her cheekbones, the plump lips, even the small, almost unseeable, hint of ivory to her pale skin.

Starring right before me was... "Grace?"

The girl blinked her eyes at me, gulping down what I believed was a breath.

"My name's Delilah... But I could be Grace if you wanted me to be." She somehow pleaded, despite my hand around her throat.

Automatically, I pulled myself off her. Moving to stand on my feet and look down at them both. Lilianna was quick to react, and I couldn't help but watch in some sort of trance. She pulled the girl I had thought to be a dead ringer for Grace up into her arms, protectively around her. She returned with burrowing her head, almost hiding it, into Lilianna's chest. Her hand clutching onto Lilianna's arm, hiding herself from me.

Lilianna had her eyes closed, and I could see her lips pursed as she whispered into the girls ear. I couldn't make out what she was saying, but from what it looked like; she was comforting the girl.

How could this possibly be? It had been a shock for Lilianna to show up, of course it was, but now someone who resembled her sister greatly? Someone who looked the almost like the spitting image of her? Was this the only ones? I couldn't help but hope so. This was all getting far too complicated. Far too... Deep for my liking.

"I want you both to leave." I finally spoke up, catching both their attentions. Four sets of eyes were on me, all producing the same amount of confusion. Though, once seemed to be projecting fear alongside the confusion.

"Get out of here, and never come back."

"But, Alecz-"

"No buts, Lilianna. I am serious. Never set foot in Volterra again, otherwise I will have no choice but to execute you... And your family."

With my jaw set in place in a hard lock, I maneuvered around them both and continued to walk.

"Alec!" She called back, but I didn't so much as spare a glance behind me. "You promised you would run away with me! You promised!"

How much I wanted to retaliate with 'things change' but I couldn't. I was better than that. I had given them their warning, I had given them another chance for Christ sake - something we Volturi never gave. She should be counting her blessings as they were. Not screaming at me.

"You are mine, Aleczander! And if I can't have you, Alec; no one can!" Was the last thing I heard before I left the corridor behind me completely.

That was where she was wrong. I wasn't hers. I was Renesmee's, and I had been from the moment she had the audacity to consider calling me 'Ally.' I was hers, and I forever would be. It was already done.

—xXx—

He was hers. He had always been hers. He was always supposed to be hers. Never was it supposed to turn out like this. Aleczander Cecil was meant to accept her offer, run off with her and her siblings and live the remainder of his eternity with her; they way it was supposed to be.

But he refused. Instead, he was walking away from her. Rejecting her every efforts, her every emotion. How... How could this be?

Lilianna blinked back the grit seeming to form in her eyes, and soon found herself gripping tightly onto Delilah's arm, so much so that the girl began to protest and sit herself up. The sadness and feeling of lost lasted around three seconds before anger and rage ate at it.

She was no longer mourning the loss of him. She was now in a state of revenge.

This wasn't Aleczander talking. It couldn't be. Aleczander always tried to keep her happy, it was what he was good at. He gave her everything she wanted, spoiled her in some way. So there could only be one reason as to why she wasn't getting it this time.

The stupid hybrid.

"Lilianna," Delilah soothed, her hand moving to rest on Lilianna's shoulder. "Lilianna, come on.."

Lilianna turned her head to Delilah, her stare wasn't one Delilah practically liked to be under. Not when it was like this.

"He wants us to go. We should listen before we get into more trouble."

"Trouble?!" She spat, pulling herself up from the girl. Delilah merely gazed up at her from the floor. "You think I care about what trouble we get into?"

Not anymore I don't, Delilah thought bitterly. Evidently having Alec seemed to matter more to her than what her own life did.

"Get up."

Delilah did as she was told. There was no fighting with her when she was in a mood like this.

Lilianna took off down the corridor, in quick harsh steps. Delilah had no choice but to follow her.

She walked quickly and swiftly back into the main corridors of the castle, and up the staircase. Delilah had no idea where Alec was anymore. The maze of corridors were still too much for her to take in. She missed their little house, the one they sat in and waited most of the time. At least she knew her way around that thing. This place... Was just far too big.

Once upon a time, Delilah might've wanted to stay in a castle. Now, however? She despised it. The sooner they got out, the better.

Delilah wanted to protest against going back to the room, just incase Mary and Scott weren't there. However, she felt as though there was no getting through to her elder 'sister.' Not when she was dead set on returning to the room. Hopefully to do as Alec said. Pack up and leave.

Honestly, Delilah would be happy with just leaving. They didn't need the junk of clothes they had. They could just leave with the clothes on their back, and run off. Alec had made it really really clear he didn't want them there, just as much as Delilah didn't want to be there.

Besides, wasn't it time to give Scott a bit of a rest? He had been going out of his way using his gift lately. If anything, he was the one in for the most trouble. Using his scent to lure the tracker away, confusing the tracker and just downright pissing the stalker off.

"Are we going to do what he said and leave?" Delilah finally picked up the hidden courage she always had to speak.

"Yes," Lilianna replied back in a monotonous voice.

She felt as if a weight had been lifted up off her shoulders in that instant. They were going to leave. Finally put all this twin crap behind them, and move on with their life. Get on with having the life Lilianna had promised.

"But this isn't over."

The weight was placed back on, and Delilah felt her chest tighten.

Dear god, was this ever going to end?

Now on the floor where their room was, Delilah felt her insides twist. Inwardly pleading for her two other coven members to be there. With a mood that Lilianna was now it; it wouldn't go unpunished. Without a doubt, they would all be made to hurt.

Pressing her lips together tightly, as if to keep in any unwanted squeal in protest, she watched as Lilianna pushed their room door open and vanished inside. Holding her breath, she walked in behind her.

"Back so early?"

Scott. A sigh of relief was given, and her eyes fluttered to a close.

Parched on the bed like nothing had happened was both Scott and Mary. Mary was sitting with her legs crossed under her, her fingers fiddling with her nails on her lap; while Scott was practically sprawled half on-half off the bed; his hand holding his head up while his elbow was digging into the mattress. Instantly, she saw the way their clothes were clinging to them, and how damp both of their hair seemed. It was obvious they had both been outside. Obvious to her. She hoped to god Lilianna didn't notice.

Both of their eyes went to Delilah's at the lack of Lilianna's response. Clearly worry lingering within their bottomless red pools. She swiftly shook her head, her own eyes flaring in some kind of warning to keep quiet. Scott nodded; which only meant her understood. Closing the door behind her, Delilah quickly made her way over and sat herself down beside Scott. Feet planted on the floor, while her arms closed over her chest in a fold.

Lilianna was pacing back and forth, her eyes narrowed in a silent argument against herself.

"We're leaving. We've lived out our welcome here," She finally said, still pacing.

"We're leaving?" Scott quired, while Delilah noticed the spats of dirt on his jeans. Clearly he had been running at some pace. He never usually got himself this dirty. "Where too now?"

"Outside the city."

Ah, so they weren't really leaving. They were just getting out of the castle. Despite how annoying it was to hear, that they weren't really finished with whatever plan Lilianna had, Delilah felt a little more relieved not being in the same building as a psychopathic coven - even if those were just rumors.

"We're going to double our efforts. It may be hard, but it will work." Lilianna finally snapped her eyes towards the three of them, causing each and everyone of them to stiffen. Don't notice, don't notice, don't notice!, Delilah chanted within her head. "He will be mine. Understand?"

Each of them nodded eagerly. She didn't notice. Thank god!

"We leave tonight. There is a group heading out hunting, we will blend in with them."

They nodded again in sync.

She nodded in return, firm and simple. Now that the plan was clear, she seemed to relax. Turning on her heel, she walked to the door again. Delilah might've asked where she was going, if she didn't value her life.

Each of them waited until the door was shut, counted to ten silently, and instantly Delilah turned.

"What happened?" She peeped, still hushed.

"The rain, caused the hybrid and her pals to turn back..."

Delilah nodded. "And the stalker dude?"

"Demetri," Mary piped in; saying his name as if to remind her. Demetri, Delilah repeated within her head. Try and remember that.

Scott was staring at Delilah, and she caught the small flick of his eyes that turned towards Mary. She shuffled under his gaze. A small prying smile began to form onto his lips as his attention turned back to the purple and dark haired girl.

"As pissed as ever." He was showing his teeth now, clearly pleased with himself. Because he had managed to escape the tracker - and most importantly, Jane - once again; or because he had done so with Mary at his side, managing to somehow impress her? Delilah wasn't sure which it was, but never the less; she relaxed.

"So he didn't find you."

"Nope." Scott replied, popping the p.

Pinching the bridge of her nose, Delilah finally let out a deep sigh.

"Good. We better change our clothes into ones we want to wear for a while. You might wanna' get out of those jeans... I can see the dirt at the bottom. And dry yourselfs quickly, before she finally does notice." Delilah pointed, then looked towards Mary, sporting a light knee-length white dress. Now she was to focus, she could also the the specks of mud on her legs and the material of her dress.

"You too."

Both nodded, and pushed themselves off the bed. Delilah fell back on the mattress; her eyes closing while her tense muscles relaxed. She couldn't help but worry on that boys words. Aleczander's.

"No buts, Lilianna. I am serious. Never set foot in Volterra again, otherwise I will have no choice but to execute you... And your family.

Delilah hadn't been one to be fearful of anything. Her whole demeanor had given that out from the beginning. Even the mere mention of Alec's power hadn't scared her, despite how powerful she knew he was now. But the moment his hand had clasped around her throat, and she had been staring into the eyes of death himself, Delilah was scared. And even more so when he had threatened to 'execute' her family.

Scotty, little Mary...

In that instant, Delilah joined the endless list of immortals who were utterly, and completely, terrified of the paralyzing Volturi member that was Alec.

—xXx—

She had kissed me. She had actually kissed me, in some attempt to sway my choices. And what was utterly terrifying, was that it might've worked. It may have worked, if it wasn't for my thoughts returning to the only woman who was supposed to kiss me. Who I had waited for my entire life for, who I would continue to wait for.

Lilianna was not my Reny. She would never compare to her, and I would never dare try to compare her. Lilianna might've once been my light in the dark, but Renesmee... She was my sun. My moon. Everything that was good in the world, everything that held hope was what she was; and she was mine.

That was how it was supposed to be, for the rest of eternity. And it was because of that; this kiss was being put to the side, and never thought of again. It would almost certainly bring problem's towards me and Renesmee - which I was not allowing to happen - and it would bring out the fact Lilianna was alive. Again, something I wasn't allowing to happen, due to the deal I had made with her. To me... She was dead now. I had no interest, no desire, and no second thought towards her anymore. She was a ghost, one I had exorcized from my life for good. The kiss was as if it had never happened, because I didn't care about it. I didn't want it, and I never would. I felt nothing.

Presently, I was sitting in Jane's dorm room. Resting back in the plush sofa, with my arm spread across the back of it, and the other on the arm; fingers drumming against the leather impatiently.

I could smell the dogs. Hell, who couldn't? With that scent, I knew full well Renesmee was back. Truthfully, I didn't wish to be here. I wanted to be at her side, rather than waiting for my sister, which I was currently doing. With her sudden departure after Demetri and Felix, and Lilianna's appearance causing me to abandon going along with them; I was curious as to what had gone on her end of this whole mess.

But there was still that aching confusion within me. Lilianna had said she was the reason Demetri couldn't track. Lilianna said she was the reason for all these memories and mind intrusions. So, how was it that she was able to be with me; and yet cause Demetri to rush off in a haste following some trail. Surely her scent would have been right there, with mine.

And then I remembered the girl with the purple flare. Delilah. She was Lilianna's 'sister.' Was it possible there was more than two. Of course it was, but I couldn't believe it. For as long as I had known Lilianna, she hadn't been one for socializing, much like myself. She wasn't a peoples person. She liked small numbers, if multiple numbers at all.

That had been why I was her one and only friend, and she being mine.

She hadn't even been one to be close to her siblings. It was only rarely you seen her conversing with them, and even then it was probably an argument or confrontation. But Delilah was just like...

No, no. I couldn't put much more thought into it. I had given them their chance. I had given them a final warning, and now it was up to them to take it; which they would. They better.

If there was more than just those two - all of them should leave. There was only a certain amount of time I could keep this to myself and postpone Aro from finding out. Once I had reached the point of no longer remembering - for not giving a damn to remember - then it would be then they were finally safe.

Even if Aro were to find out, this talent they had in hiding themselves would come in handy. If they left now, hid for a century or two, Aro wouldn't be able to find them... And soon he too might forget. Of course, I presumed I would be heavily punished for aiding a criminal, but it was my last act of kindness towards the friend I once had.

From now on, I could no longer do such things. I was Alec of the Volturi, and I had a duty to keep order in this world. If Lilianna was to so much as screw up one final time, I'd have no choice but to follow through with my threat. She wouldn't only be endangering her life, but her coven also.

A smart immortal would take my one, and only, offer. I just hoped she was indeed smart. She had been, somewhat, during our immortal years.

The door of the cleanly kept room was pushed open, and I was pulled from my thoughts of guilt, regret and utmost repulsion. Once upon a time, I'd have perhaps enjoyed the thoughts that my lips had met Lilianna's, but now... Knowing that our mouths had been one, and she was not Renesmee... It made my unbeating heart fall to my stomach, shrivel up and die all over again.

As repulsed as I was, I had to put it behind me. As far as I was concerned, it never happened. It meant nothing. It was her idiotic attempt at trying to lure me in, and it had failed... Thankfully.

This still had nothing to do with any of them. It was my problem, and as far as I was concerned; I had dealt with it. My way.

Stepping into the dimly lit room, a mere lamp on a table at the side of the sofa I was currently resting on being the only source of light, Jane appeared. Her eyes studied me for a matter of seconds, before she shook her head and closed the door behind her.

"Gracing me with an unannounced visit, brother?" I could hear the sarcasm running off her voice. "Don't I feel privileged. And here I thought you would have returned to the hybrid the moment she returned from her outing."

Oh, I wanted too; but I daren't say that aloud. Not with the obvious mood my darling little sister seemed to be in currently. It did make me curious, however. To others, Jane seemed only to have one mood. Sadistic. But to me, she had a whirlwind of them. I supposed it was due to the fact I was the only immortal who truly knew Jane for who she was... Who was allowed to know her, that is.

Our conversations around others were usually sarcastic, merely to insult the others around us, or severely serious depending on the situation. But on our own, with no prying ears, Jane seemed to ease up a little. So now, hearing her sarcasm; especially with how thick it was, I was very well aware something had happened. Something that had managed to influence her mood to the point where she was able to take such a sour tone with me.

I arched an eyebrow quizzically at her, not saying a word, as she crossed over the room and removed her cloak. She folded it, then placed it down onto a table.

"You know I dislike it when you look at me like that, Alec." She stated, tucking the chair in that now wore her robe over it. Finally, she turned her eyes to my own.

I still chose not to speak. She would take the bait, eventually.

She maneuvered over towards me, resting herself down beside me on the sofa. Folding her hands together, interlocking her fingers with her own; she rested them onto her knees and stared endlessly in front of her.

Somewhat of a statue pose, more or less.

I had to fight off the smirk wanting to grow on my lips. It was only now that I was noticing what Renesmee had meant once. I had my soldier stance, so to speak; and Jane had her statue sitting position.

"I thought you would have come after us after Demetri's rash decision to go after something."

She seemed to have taken the bait; even if it was just a nibble.

"I had other things to deal with." I replied with a shrug of my shoulders. I ignored the flash of Lilianna's face within my head. Eyes blazing red, lips ruby and full. She wasn't the girl I had grown up with, despite how much she resembled her. We had changed, and if Lilianna hadn't; then it was I who had changed. For the better.

"Such as?"

"A guest playing a game I wasn't willing to play."

It wasn't so much of a lie. Lilianna had been playing games. One that I really, really didn't want to play.

The look Jane paid me was one of confusion, but she said nothing more on the subject. Instead, she continued on with the evident reason behind her sour mood.

"Demetri found that track again," she clarified my presumptions. There was no way in hell Demetri had decided to dash after the group of dogs that were following Renesmee and her human friends willingly. "It was trailing after Renesmee."

My eyes narrowed instantaneously. I sat up, kicking my feet off from the coffee table in front of me. "What do you mean trailing after her?"

"What I say, Alec." She frowned, turning her posture to face my own. "It was following her, and her friends. We didn't realize to begin with," Jane continued, while my anger seemed to grow each and every word she spoke. "Considering the culprit turned it off, so we stuck by the hybrid. However, Demetri caught it again; and took off up a fire escape."

Jane paused, and I could see the flare of irritation in her eyes.

"And?" I pressed, noting that she hadn't continued after several seconds.

"We saw them."

"Them?" I spat. Wait, Lilianna had said it was all her doing? There was without a doubt more than her. Delilah kinda proved that, but now it seemed to be that she had a little coven brewing.

"Two of them," Jane nodded her head. "It was only a silhouette, but we could see them ahead of us as we chased."

I could only imagine the thrill going through Demetri in that moment. He loved the chase. He always had. Especially seeing the figures that had tormented him for so long. Having them at arms reach, just close enough to destroy.

Destroy.

If this was indeed Lilianna's coven, and Demetri had managed to catch these pests...

I didn't want to think what it might've looked like. That I had gone against my word on giving them a final chance? I was one to keep my word. I always had been, and always would be.

"Until they dropped down ahead of us, and Demetri took off in the wrong direction."

Evidently, that thrill hadn't lasted long for Deme- Wait, what? What had she just said?

"He what?"

"Took off in the wrong direction. He ran on to the left, leading us... Then the trail vanished and we came to a stop. Demetri was practically pulling his hair out by now, Alec." I could only assume so. "Then he stated that the trail came back for a split second... To the right. Whatever it was, it had convinced him to go to the left; then had the audacity to mock him with signalling their tracks for a split second."

It took me several seconds to take in this information. They had managed to fool Demetri, the best tracker within the vampire world. They had managed to evade him, even when they had been in eyesight.

If the circumstances had have been different, and Aro didn't already believe the problem to be finished, he would have without a doubt of been interested in signing them to the guard.

I blinked twice while suppressing a deep sigh.

"Is Demetri alright?"

"He's... Furious. When I left him, he was in the process of punching a wall in the alley. He isn't coming back until he's calmer. Felix is still with him. He hoped to talk some sense into him before he does anything irrational."

I nodded my head in agreement. It was better for him to take his irritation out before returning to the castle where Aro would without a doubt figure out there was a problem. Demetri was a lot like me in that aspect. Calm and collected. Despite my promise to Lilianna, I couldn't help but want to go to Aro for guidance. To inform him of the problem. But going to him would show him we had been deceived, that we hadn't completed our mission. He would see us as failures, and that was something I refused to allow happen. Looking at Jane, I could see she felt the same; thus why her obvious mood.

I could only hope Lilianna took my deal. That she, and her 'family' left and stayed quiet. That there would be no more problems for us. If she had any regard to who I once was, or had felt anything for me at all, she would do this for me now.

"Whatever this is, Alec..." Jane spoke, holding my gaze with her own. "This is going to be a challenge."

I couldn't agree more. This was going to be a challenge, but when had we ever failed? Not once. Lilianna either took my deal and vanished without a trace; or we would deal with her. Promise or no promise.

"This isn't one we can't handle, Jane." I reassured, moving my hand from the back of the sofa and onto her clasped hands. She reacted by unclasping them, and entwining her fingers with mine. "We never fail."

A/N:

JESUS.

I was not expecting that. I go out for a little while, and come back to 30 reviews?!

You guys never fail to surprise me. The number was only fifteen! I do believe I'm gonna have to make it a little harder for you in the future!

Never the less, here is the update as promised.

I've noticed a lot of you are reeling at the Jane/Demetri interaction, and less Jane/Seth interaction?

Well, don't worry. That's all gonna change eventually. And... Do you all honestly believe Renesmee is clueless? The little hybrid does know Alec better than what he thinks... *insert evil face here*

Keep those reviews coming. There is a whole lot more in store for this lot. Including a little kidnapping. Dun dun dunn.

You're all amazing.
