When Christmas Break finally arrived, everyone was more than ready for a break.
Jeremy and Jenna were especially tired of having to fight Elena constantly to convince her to give Klaus and the Originals a chance. The doppelganger was dead set on her revenge and had managed to keep Bonnie and Stefan on her side.
For this reason, Stefan had declined his brother's invitation to spend Christmas with them and had decided to spend it with his girlfriend, telling his brother that he was hurt he would even suggest for him to come when Klaus was invited. Rachel had been hurt because she had truly hoped to be able to celebrate these holidays with her uncle present but she had done her best to hide it. She knew that if they ever found out how sad she was because of Stefan and Elena's behaviour, Klaus and her father would work on trying to force Stefan to please her and she knew they would go to extreme measures.
"Uncle Stefan wait up, please!" Rachel shouted at the mall as she crossed Stefan, both doing some Christmas gift shopping.
"Rachel, what do you want?" He replied in an annoyed voice when she reached him.
"Can't you even be civil with me? What have I ever done to you?" She asked him, hurt by his behaviour.
"You're the one sleeping with the enemy Rachel, not me." He replied, starting to walk again.
"First of I'm not sleeping with anyone, Klaus and I are only kissing. Second, that's disputable because Elena hasn't been acting like a friend to us all in a while. I've given her every chances I could and every time she had stabbed me in the back." She defended herself.
"Klaus is evil Rachel, he tried to kill Elena!" Stefan almost yelled.
"And how many times have you and Elena tried to kill him? I don't know if you realise Uncle Stefan but you, Elena and Bonnie almost killed his entire family when you allied with Esther. His entire family Stefan, even the ones who did their best to save you and the proof that Klaus has changed is here: he hasn't looked for revenge against the lot of you, he's let it go. Now who is the evil one?"Rachel replied, tears in her eyes.
"He's playing you Rachel, it's obvious. Katherine and Elena are right, you're going to and up heartbroken, if not dead. The only way to protect you is to kill him!" He replied.
"You're delusional, I can't believe it! Listen Uncle Stefan, Christmas is a family holiday... Please, come and be with us. Daddy is so happy now with Rebekah, you should be happy for him... You don't have to speak with Niklaus if you don't want to. Please come." Rachel pleaded, trying to use the fact that he wanted a family to her favour.
"I'm sorry Rachel, but Elena is my family now." Stefan replied sadly as he turned around and left Rachel standing along while he left the mall.
Of course Rachel was sad with his answer but she let it go, not wanting to think about it anymore because she knew it would ruin her spirit. She took a big breath, chased the sad thoughts out of her head, plastered a big Broadway smile on her face and went back to shopping, wanting to be sure that she had something for each and every one of her friends, including her friends in Lima.
.
"You found everything you were looking for Princess?" Damon asked her when she got home.
"I think so... Except for Klaus...It's hard to shop for the man who has everything and enough money to buy what he is missing...but I think I got something he's going to like and find useful...I also have a backup idea...just in case." She explained.
"Good. I also found everything." Damon said as he helped his daughter decorate the house.
"Should we give Santana her gifts now or when she comes back?" Rachel asked her father.
"We should give them to her tonight before she leaves an ask her to open them on Christmas." He suggested.
Rachel nodded and went back to placing decorations all around the house and the tree.
When the only thing left was the top of the tree, Damon grabbed a wooden box containing a decoration he had designed especially for his daughter. A small golden angel with long brown wavy hairs and fluffy white wings that was holding a golden star with Salvatore engraved on it. He gently took it out and held it out to Rachel. She smiled at him remembering every time she had done it in the past as her father carried her over his head. They had started when she turned 3 years old and Zack accidentally broke the star they had.
Ever since, Zack would take it out of the box and hand it to Rachel. Damon would carry her above his head so she could put it on top of the tree.
"I miss Uncle Zack..." Rachel said as she looked at the small angel inside her hands.
"I know, me too. I'm sure that right now he's watching over us and telling you to go ahead and put it on already." Damon replied softly as he offered his hands to his daughter.
Indeed, even if she could do it herself now that she had her vampire abilities and witch powers, she still liked that her father carried her, especially since the tree seemed to grow with her and to be taller every year.
After they were done putting the ultimate decoration, they stepped back and looked at all they had done during the day.
"Okay, we're ready for Christmas now." Rachel said with a smile before she kissed her father and went in her bedroom to pack her gifts.
