A/N: I'm back ish.
I would like to take a moment and sincerely thank each and every one of you who reads, comments, favorites and follows my story and I. I really do appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. I'm not one to reply to reviews because I never get to it, but I do read them, some over and over again. So thank you. :)
The following one shot will 85 percent turn into a full story but that 15 percent isn't sure yet. We'll see. I do love mermaids and fantasy and all that good stuff so if people like it, maybe I'll give it a go. Think of this as a rough draft, he he.
I edit this and looked it over but if there are still mistakes, I do apologize!
Enjoy. =)
Fish Tail
He was drowning. The knowledge of this made the boy panic further. He gripped his nose and mouth area while his legs thrashed wildly in the water. Blast this ocean trip. If he managed to stay alive, he was going to murder his so called friends that dragged him along to his death. Didn't they know he couldn't swim?
The boy was sinking fast and he was struggling like a mad man. The surface kept getting further and further away and he couldn't hold his breath much longer. His chest felt like it could explode and with his eyes open as they watched the surface become a distant haze, the salt water stung the dark orbs.
Is this my end? he thought to himself, vision growing blurry. Slowly his body ceased its thrashing as his arms extended from the hold on his nose and mouth, floating limply in front of him. His eyes closed in slits. When did they get so heavy? He could hardly keep them open. The water glittering from the sun's rays. A couple of fish darted by. It was peaceful.
If this is I guess it's not so bad the boy thought. Just as his eyes begun to close completely, a shadow fell over him. He felt arms curl around him and pull him close to a chest. A warm feeling spread over his body and the boy relaxed completely, letting his body lax against the one embracing him. It felt like he was being pulled up but he was so tired... his head fell forward on a naked shoulder and as he finished shutting his eyes, he saw what seemed to be a fish tail swish below him. His mind didn't have time to take the image in because everything grew dark.
...
"Natsu!"
That was the third time his name was hissed.
It was also the third time he ignored it. His attention was on something -rather, someone. The one named Natsu was laying on his side propped up on one elbow while gently running his fingers through soaked black hair. "Soft.." he murmured to himself. His dark eyes ate up the unconscious boy he had saved. Natsu let his fingers in the boy's hair gently trail down the side of his face, tracing over dark eye brows before dipping down the edge to a strong nose. "So soft..." Natsu whispered, curling his body even more around the boy. For the rest of the journey, Natsu only used one finger to continue mapping out the boy's face. From the nose he used his finger to dance down to the pale pink upper lip. Natsu was very entranced at the feel.
"Natsu!"
Natsu sighed in annoyance but still opted to ignore his companion. While this didn't go unnoticed by his companion who started throwing a hiss fit, Natsu continued tracing the outline of the boy's lips, marveling at the shape and softness of it.
Natsu removed his fingers and let out a soft sigh as he stared down at the boy. The human. How were they so bad and scary? This one seemed sweet to Natsu who just didn't understand why he had to stay away from them. If things were different, would he and this human be friends? Less than friends? More than friends? A small smile graced Natsu's lips as he thought of that. He placed his hand right above the human's heart and said quietly, "You'd be mine and I yours."
"You're hallucinating! Natsu get away from him and back in the water before someone sees you!"
"Rogue, you're annoying." Natsu replied simply. Inside though he knew his friend was right. As much as he didn't want to leave the human's side, Natsu knew he had to leave. A sad look crossed over his face and ever so slowly he leaned down to press his lips to the human's. Natsu thought he would have kept them there but the human began to cough and sputter, making him yank back in surprise to stare at the boy.
"Natsu!"
"GRAY!"
...
"Natsu!"
Gray jerked up from his coughing fit, sandy hand covering his mouth while his eyes, despite them being watery, saw a flash of pink before a splash. He stared at the spot where the water rippled, not hearing his name being yelled. Natsu... he thought to himself. Once his coughing ceased and his eyes stopped watering up every two seconds, Gray still kept his hand to his mouth. For some reason his lips were tingling and that warm feeling had returned.
His dark eyes stayed on the spot where the water once rippled was now still. He stared, but for what, a wishful hoping that the water would move? Bubbles would erupt? Gray didn't know. His mind was dazed, he was confused.
A body slammed into his knocking him backwards. "GRAY!" a girlish shriek made his ears ring painfully. A body lay on his and he sighed knowing too well who it was.
"Juvia-" he started but broke his own self off from the sheer shock at the sound of his voice. It was raspy and cracked more than the times it had when he was in puberty. "Fuck." he cursed while sitting up, the girl on top of him sliding down on his lap.
"Juvia was very upset when she couldn't see Gray anywhere!" the girl had medium length wild indigo hair and round beautiful blue eyes. She wore a two piece purple and white polka dot bathing suit that shaped her body nicely. Clinging to Gray, the third person speaking girl began to wail dramatically against his shoulder.
Thudding footsteps made Gray look over Juvia's head of purple-ish curls to see the rest of his group skid to them. Immediately he was bombarded with questions.
"What happened to you?"
"How'd you end up way over here?"
"Juvia was very upset when she couldn't see Gray anywhere!" Juvia repeated as she continued to cling. Gray puffed out a sigh and rubbed at his temple. Don't get him wrong, he loved his female friends but when the 'mother' side in them comes out - and all at once- it gives him a bit of a headache.
"I'm fine."
A girl with fiery red hair crossed her arms over her bikini cladded chest. "You don't sound nor look fine."
A blonde knelt down next to him and studied him. "You said you weren't going to get in the water." she said, having noticed her friend was drenched.
Gray shrugged with one shoulder and nudged Juvia off him. "I got hot and wanted to wet my feet. But this huge ass wave came from nowhere and knocked me over. I was sucked in and not one of you jerks noticed."
Altogether, there were three girls and two guys, not including Gray. The one with fire red hair is Erza Scarlet. The blonde is Lucy Heartfilia and then of course Juvia Lockster. Of the two guys there's Lyon Vastia and Loke Zodiac. Erza's brow furrowed.
"We didn't see a wave, Gray." she informed him. "At least I didn't, I don't know about you all." the girl said while turning to the look at the rest of her friends. All of them shook their head.
"Nope." Loke, who had spiky orange hair and shades, said.
"Maybe the heat got to you in the head -oh wait, the damage was already done." a guy with silver hair smirked. Gray glared.
"I'm not making this up asshole." Gray stood up. He hadn't want to come on this stupid ocean trip to begin with. He and water never got along. "And I'm not going to explain myself again." he glared at the group before stalking away still grumbling. His group of friends shared looks before following after the moody ravenette.
...
Back in the water, safely tucked away inside the oceans waves were Natsu and Rogue. The two had heard the whole conversation between the humans being still close to the shore. Once the humans had gone, Rogue turned to his friend glaring. "Are you crazy?" he demanded. "Do you know how close that was- how easy it was for them to see- you could have exposed us all!"
Natsu just blinked. "But I didn't."
Rogue rubbed his face. "I really don't think that's the point. And how could you outright kiss one of those- those-"
"Humans?" Natsu offered before swimming away. Rogue shivered at the name and swam after his friend. "A boy just like us, Rogue."
Rogue squawked. "Like us? Like us?" he repeated before flipping over to land in front of Natsu. "They are nothing like us- he was nothing like us. Look at us!" Natsu rolled his eyes when Rogue swam around him, purposely nudging him with a long, thick black tail. A fish tail.
A fin.
"My mouth is mine and I will command it to kiss whomever I please to." Natsu stated and continued swimming. Rogue fell in place beside him closely.
"I still think you're missing the point."
Natsu laughed airily. "I'm not missing anything."
"If you're father finds out-"
Natsu glared, hushing Rogue instantly. "He won't." The two stared at each other for a full minute before Natsu turned and swam on. "Even if he did, it would not stop me. I'm fully interested in that human named Gray. And you know perfectly well how I can get when I'm interested in something."
Rogue groaned. He did know.
Natsu sighed out happily. "I don't regret kissing him. A human taking your first kiss, that's quite something isn't it?" he cooed happily before darting away. Rogue had halted at hearing that piece of news.
Natsu's first kiss... was with a human's? The ravenette's eyes nearly bugged out of his head. Just that single act Natsu broke over half the mermaid code. "And he doesn't look the bit worried!" Rogue exclaimed to himself while watching the back of his friend's vibrant pink tail swish back and forth.
"He surely will be the death of me." Rogue decided before following the energetic swishing pink fin.
