Hailey arrived in Mystic Fall's pretty quickly after her meeting with Professor Shane. She didn't like the idea of killing all those people and waking Silas after what she found out about him but she needed to do this. Shane had found some facts about her family, her birth family and she was willing to do anything to find out about it. She had been looking for so long and she could feel the answers so close to her that she couldn't back down now.
Her task was simple really, she needed to convince the two head hybrids, Tyler and Santana, to break their sire bond to Klaus, then they would help others to do it, it would drive Klaus mad and he would kill them all. That would be the 12 demon sacrifice done. She knew that Shane had already taken care of the human one. She was actually curious as to who he was going to kill and how he was going to do it.
.
Rachel was studying for her last exams of high school. They were all spread out in the next few weeks but she wanted to be ready. She was at the Mickealson house, Klaus was by her side, reading and ready to help her in case she needed it.
Santana was also in the room, studying too and trying to ignore that Kol kept on coming in the room, checking her out and sometimes sitting by her side and reading silently over her shoulders. She knew that he was trying to give her time and that he wanted to show her that he could be good for her but she just needed time. She wondered if he knew that he was making it hard for her to wait by being his sexy good looking self.
Everything was silent, calm and peaceful in the living room until, suddenly, they heard a faint explosion sound from afar.
"What was that?" Rachel asked as they all stood up.
"It looks like it came from the town's square... It must have been huge if we heard it here..." Kol replied as they all rushed to the window where smoke could be seen.
"Let's go and see what's going on." Rachel said, making her way to the door knowing that they were following her.
She was worried because her father was supposed to be in town with Rebekah. She was afraid that he might have been caught in whatever happened. She was scared out of her mind. She was trying to call his cell while Santana tried Rebekah's but none of them answered.
.
Damon had taken Rebekah in town for a special reason.
He knew very well where their relationship was headed and he wanted to know what kind of ring she'd like, for future references. He told her that he was looking for a graduation present for Rachel in order to get her to come in and of course she believed him. The best part of lying was to tell the turht and he really was looking for a graduation present to give his daughter.
"How about this one?" He asked her, pointing to a small ring.
"I think Rachel is more of a necklace kind of girl." Rebekah replied.
"True. What about you, which one is more to your taste?" He asked her.
He looked at her then and it took him only one second to read recognition in her eyes. Of course he didn't speak about it, he didn't mention a future wedding proposal and she didn't mention it either. Instead, she smiled and told him exactly what she liked and hated about each ring in the glass case.
"I didn't know there would be so much people in today... It's a full house..." Damon whispered as he paid for 4 pair of earrings, necklaces and bracelets he would give Rachel, Caroline, Santana and Rebekah for graduation.
They were all identical but had different gem stones and he knew that they would love it.
"I know... Maybe there's some sort of sale we didn't see or something..." She replied thoughtfully.
Looking around, she counted: The owner, plus two young women working for him, the guard, 7 customers and them. 11 humans and 2 vampires was a lot for such a small shop and she couldn't wait to get out of it.
As Damon was taking the bag with his purchases in 4 individual boxes, a man with a big jacket came in. He opened his coat to reveal a bomb and before Rebekah could voice her realisation that there were now 12 humans in the shop, he pressed a button and she jumped on Damon to protect him from the blow of the explosion.
She wouldn't die, no matter the importance of the blow but Damon wasn't as durable as she was and she couldn't lose him. Not when she knew he was thinking of buying her an engagement ring, not when she had finally fallen in love with a good guy. She didn't have time to think about it and she knew they wouldn't have been able to leave in time. She just jumped on him, pushing him to the ground right before flames rose all around them.
.
When they finally arrived where the smoke came from, they realised that the jewellery shop was the one who exploded. There were firemen shooting water at the place and the cops were already here also. They could hear that a few of the firemen were inside the shop already, looking for survivors. The surrounded shops had also been touched and so did the sidewalk. There would be a lot of victims...
"Oh no..." Rachel whispered, tears in her eyes.
"What is it Love?" Klaus asked her.
"Daddy took Rebekah to the jewellery shop... He was going to try and find out what kind of rings she liked for when he gathered the courage to propose to her..." Rachel whispered.
The shock was big, both about their presence in the shop, the uncertainty of their condition and the fact that Damon was seriously thinking of proposing to Rebekah.
"I'll go and see if Sheriff Forbes knows anything. Come on." Klaus declared, dragging Rachel along with him.
Liz saw them come of course and rushed to meet them.
"Have you found Dad or Rebekah?" Rachel asked.
"We haven't been able to find anyone yet. We have to wait until the fire department is done before we can come in and look for survivors ourselves... Was Damon inside then?" Liz asked, trying to remain as professional as possible.
"Yes, he was in there with Rebekah..." Klaus replied.
"But that explosion couldn't have killed them right? I mean, they're strong vampires!" Liz asked, looking much paler than she already was.
"It wouldn't kill Rebekah..." Kol said after joining them with Santana, Stefan and Caroline who had just arrived and been informed of the situation.
"...But Damon could have been..." Stefan finished.
"No! I refuse to believe any of this. Daddy is alive. This stupid explosion didn't kill my father. We're going to find him in there. I'll go and try to find someone to feed them because they'll need it to heal." Rachel snapped.
"No, you stay here Rach, Kol and I will take care of this." Santana said sweetly while Klaus took Rachel back in his arms and the sheriff went back closer to the scene.
.
It took a while but eventually, the cops and the EMT's were allowed inside, along with the firemen. They kept on taking out bodies, both from the jewellery shop and from the surrounding places who had also gotten some damages. Apparently, some people had managed to survive. Of course they found Rebekah and Damon and if they looked severely hurt, they were alive. Liz Forbes used all of her influence to let them go in Klaus' car so they could heal them out of doctor's eyes.
"Thanks Misses Forbes." Rachel told her sincerely.
"It's nothing at all Rachel. Tell me how they are later." Liz replied.
"How many victims are there so far?" Rachel heard Stefan ask.
"So far 12 dead and about 5 people in danger of death...Several others hurt but in no danger. I have to go back... Keep me informed." She replied gravely before she left.
"12 humans, dead..." Caroline whispered, realising what was going on.
"Part one of the expression triangle is complete... Oh gosh... This Shane is so in trouble...We need to find a way to tie him up to this..." Rachel whispered.
"We will Love, right now we should get Damon and Bekah back home. There will be time for everything else later." Klaus told her.
She knew he was right and she followed him inside his car while Rebekah was groaning in pain and Damon was still unconscious.
.
When they got back to the house, they delicately carried them inside and lied them down on Rebekah's bed before they fed them blood fresh from the vain of the few people that Santana and Kol had found. When they took all they could from the humans without killing them, they switched to blood bags and soon they were both fully healed and resting in bed.
So, What is, according to you, the most important moment of this chapter?
