Damon and Rebekah were having a great time in Italy.
That specific day, Damon had managed to reserve an isolated beach just for the two of them and after having lots of fun (sex), he set up a picnic of her favorite human food and some bottled human blood and once the sun started to set, he finally proposed to his love under the shining stars and with the full moon above their heads.
Of course, without a surprise, Rebekah said yes (yelled Yes was more like it) and this had started another round of 'celebration'.
A couple of hours later, they took their phones and called their family to inform them that it had finally happened.
Damon called Rachel and Klaus, Rebekah called Santana and Kol. Damon called Stefan, Rebekah called Finn and Sage.
Soon, everybody they knew had learned the good news and if they didn't know when they would get married, they knew it would be within the year to come, at a moment when everyone would be able to be there with them.

"I'm so happy for Rebekah and my dad!" Rachel told Klaus as they both lay on the beach, sunbathing side by side.
"So am I. They're good for each others." He replied.
"So, I'm going to go and get something to drink. Do you want anything?" She asked him.
"Nah, I'm fine. But for next time we'll definitively hire a maid so you can stay by my side all the time." He replied, making her chuckle.
The summer was almost over and they were getting ready to leave. Their first stop would be in Mystic Fall's for a big get together with everyone before they left for New York. The get together would also serve as an engagement party for Damon and Rebekah.

Santana and Kol had had a great summer in Lima and Kol managed to win over his girl's family and friends. They spent a lot of time just relaxing and having fun, spending time with Puck and Brittany whenever they could and now that it was time to go back to Mystic Fall's, Santana felt almost relieved.
"I don't know how to explain it but going back to Mystic Fall's feels like coming back home... Lima isn't my home anymore...just like Damon is more of a father figure to me than my own father will ever be..." She explained as he drove them back home.
"I understand... They do say that home is where the heart is, not the family." Kol replied.

Stefan, Jeremy, Caroline, Jenna and Alaric had worked hard on the big barbecue that would mark the end of summer, the beginning of a new school year and the engagement of Damon and Rebekah.
Everyone was scheduled to come back during the morning or the early afternoon so around 5pm, everyone was there, exchanging vacation stories and showing each other the pictures they had taken.
"So Rachel, tell us how it was?" Santana asked her as she was in a corner of the garden with Caroline, Jenna and Rebekah.
"It was great, the best summer of my life. The island was..." Rachel started but was cut off by Caroline:
"We all know this is not what Santana asked. You and Klaus, you had sex for the first time. How was it?" Caroline asked her.
"Shhh! My father can hear you!" Rachel exclaimed, blushing.
"Oh darling, Damon isn't stupid, he knows what happened on this island. If he's trying not to think about it, he knows what happened." Rebekah revealed.
"So, tell us, how was it?" Jenna asked, curious too.
"It was great... Of course the first time hurt a bit but it was...magical...especially when we exchanged blood..." Rachel replied, still blushing a deep red.
"Now, see, it's all we needed to know." Caroline smiled.
"It must have to do with them being Original because I have to admit that sex with Kol was much better than with Tyler. I used to think that in sex there was nothing new until there was someone new but Kol completely changed my mind about this." Santana admitted.
"That's probably because they have a lot of experience." Jenna commented.
"You're probably right. Stefan is better than Matt was, probably for the same reason... and I agree that exchanging blood during sex is the best experience ever." Caroline nodded.
"Totally." Santana agreed.
"I can only trust your word for that... But I'm pretty happy with my normal human sex life with Alaric." Jenna shrugged her shoulders with a smile.

While the girls were speaking about their sexual partners and their prowess, the boys were enjoying a foolish game of football. The teams were pretty even: Damon, Jeremy, Alaric, Klaus, Kol in one team Stefan, Elijah, Finn, Matt, Tyler in the other.
Sage and Liz were talking near the grill. Sage and Finn had decided to adopt a baby and she was speaking about it with the Sheriff, discussing the way it was done and how they could make it happen faster.
All in all, that day went by fine and everyone had lots of fun. It was the last time they would all be together, able to enjoy everyone's company before everyone left for their new life.
Caroline, Stefan, Tyler, Kol, Santana and Elena would be going to college where Sheila worked, Damon and Rebekah would stay in town, simply living their lives.
Santana wasn't sure if going to this college was what she wanted but she decided to give it a try. Kol assured her that if it didn't work out, he would be fine and agree to move somewhere else.
Elijah was planning on travelling a bit while Finn and Sage would live in the Mystic Fall's house until they managed to adopt the baby they wanted. After that, they would decide between raising the baby in their home town or going somewhere else. They had time to think about it.
Of course, Rachel and Klaus were going to New York. Rachel was going to go to NYADA and Klaus had planned to take some art classes in a small private establishment. If he didn't like it, he would always be able to compel himself a spot as an art teach in one of the numerous schools this town had.
I know, this chapter isn't that great... It's just a filler chapter anyway, nothing big happening.
I'm sorry for those of you who are disappointed by Damon's proposal. I wasn't really inspired.
The next chapter will be the important one.
