Kamishoku, Color of the Divine God
Hello One Piece: Final Holy War fans, I back. Finally after a delay, the next chapter is out. And what a chapter it is, it finally explains what the so called "power of D" that Dragon's Knights of D have.
This is a fairly technical chapter, so chances are it might turn people except die hard One Piece fans away because of how much reading and thinking it requires. Also it might require people to read it more than once but when you do get it, you'll appreciate it.
This chapter has a lot of after chapter notes. Please read them to better understand the Power of D. I also want to see plenty of reviews for this chapter in particular. Anyway enjoy.
The Straw Hats were still in shock over Sanbi's terrifying revelation, that being that Luffy now possessed a deep loathing of pirates and would now likely kill them should they ever find him again. For them it was the worst thing possible. Before the worst thing for them would be one of their nakama leaving the crew. That happened during their time at Water 7 when Usopp left the crew over a dispute over the fate of the Going Merry. Even though his leaving wasn't justified, it still ate into the hearts of each of the crew. Shortly afterwards however Robin was taken by CP9 and as a result, the crew didn't have time to mourn over Usopp. In that respect they were thankful for what CP9 did for not only did it take their minds off Usopp, but it encouraged him to return to them in order to save Robin. Despite the argument between Usopp and the crew, they knew that he didn't hate them. Luffy however was different. He now hated them with a passion. Even though his hatred was misplaced, it was still hatred nonetheless. A fellow nakama hating them was even worse than just leaving. And if that didn't make things worse, Luffy would now kill them if they ever met. Luffy was already an incredibly strong fighter before he left the crew, now with his new powers, if he attempted to kill the crew, it was likely that he would succeed especially since none of them would be able to bring themselves to actually go all out against him.
They didn't know what to do anymore. They were always under the impression that when they meet Luffy again, Nami and Sanji would apologize for the argument and Luffy would apologize for abandoning the crew and then everything would be back to normal. But with Luffy now hating pirates it was unlikely that he would want to come back to them, in fact he would now more than likely just outright kill them. Could they actually look at Luffy with his eyes full of hatred, those warm puppy dog eyes gone, replaced with the eyes of a demon? Could they bring themselves to truly hurt him when he decides to attack them? They weren't sure if they could. He was their captain and nakama and secret love in Nami's and Robin's case so of course they couldn't. But given his newfound hatred for pirates, he would almost definitely attack them and they would have to fight back to defend themselves. His hatred for pirates despite not justified was understandable. The woman who loved his brother was raped viciously by pirates and someone whom he considered as a nakama was brutally murdered for trying to protecting her. Even they would hate pirates for doing such a thing, as was Nami's similar case with Arlong. But that didn't make it right to hate them of all people, his nakama whom would never do such a thing. But hatred can make people think irrationally and that was probably what was happening to Luffy. And it made him extremely dangerous.
"Now then princess Shirahoshi, I ask again that you come with me," said Sanbi.
Shirahoshi stopped her lamenting over Luffy when she heard Sanbi.
"Luffy would want you to come with us. To use your power to put an end to piracy. To finally rid the world of the scum who raped Bonney and killed Bentham, who also capture your people and sell them to the Tenryuubito and who killed your mother and nearly took over your home," said Sanbi.
Shirahoshi looked deep in thought seriously considering it, not because Sanbi was so powerful that he could kill all her friends but because she was starting to actually believe that he was right about Luffy wanting this to happen. She admired and loved Luffy and as such held his opinion in high regard, perhaps higher than her own. If Luffy thought that it was the right thing to do, then perhaps it really was. And pirates really were the ones who killed her mother as Hody despite being a fishman was a pirate and also pirates did rape that Bonney woman and killed that Bentham person so perhaps he really was right. If she went with him then perhaps, she can put an end to all of it.
Also she would finally be able to see Luffy again and perhaps try to get him to see the light and turn him back to the wonderful human she knew not too long ago. That was one of her deepest wishes.
"You're mother wished for a world where humans and fishmen would live together peacefully. We've already rid the world of half the reason that her wish never came true. Now with your help we can get rid of the other half," said Sanbi.
"That is what your mother wants and what Luffy wants. You can make both of their wishes come true if you come with me. So come princess Shirahoshi, come and make your mother and Luffy happy," invited Sanbi again.
Just as Shirahoshi was about to accept Sanbi's invitation, a hand slapped her.
The slapping sound got the attention of Sanbi, the Straw Hats and Shirahoshi's family. The one who slapped her revealed to be Vivi was furious.
"Shirahoshi-chan what do you think you're doing? I can't believe you. This isn't what anyone wants, not you, not your friends and family and certainly not your mother and Luffy-san," scolded Vivi.
Shirahoshi looked surprised at Vivi as she held her red and still stinging cheek.
"You always told me how wonderful a person your mother was. How she was so beautiful and kind. How she always wanted to help the people of your kingdom and even humans despite their past actions against your kind. If she was anything like you described then how would she feel knowing that her beautiful daughter was using her power for such violent purposes. I'll tell you how. She'll feel deeply hurt and saddened," shouted Vivi.
"The same thing with your family. They too love you and would be deeply hurt that you would just give yourself up for such a terrible purpose. The Straw Hats are the same. They came here in order to prevent you from being taken away. It doesn't matter that this guy is so strong. They wouldn't let you be taken by the revolutionary army to become a weapon. And now you just want to give yourself up," continued Vivi.
"And me, I'm both your friend and family. I'm your best friend and big sister. Aren't you considering how you're actions would affect me. I can't tell you how happy I was to have met you at this year's Reverie. If you go now, I don't know what I'll do Shirahoshi-chan," said Vivi getting emotional.
The Neptune family looked on as Vivi made her emotional speech.
"Vivi-sama," said king Neptune moved be her speech.
The Straw Hats also listened intently to Vivi's emotional speech.
"Vivi," said Zoro.
"And Luffy-san, you think he'll approve of this. I'll tell you, he wouldn't. He wouldn't because Dragon corrupted his grieving heart and turned him into something terrible. He isn't our Luffy. But he can be saved. I know it. The Straw Hats will definitely save him both from Dragon and from himself. But if you go with them, then the revolutionary army will become too strong to save him from," said Vivi.
Vivi then suddenly hugger her tightly.
"Shirahoshi-chan I know that this is hard for you but you can't give up. No one would be happy with this, not you, not your mother and certainly not Luffy-san. If you care about all of us, especially Luffy-san, then don't give in. Have faith in our nakama. They'll definitely help us and help Luffy-san," finished Vivi.
"Vivi-sama," said Shirahoshi.
"I – I – I wouldn't go with him," Shirahoshi suddenly said.
"Sanbi-sama, Vivi-sama is right. I can't go with you because it wouldn't make anyone happy. Tou-sama, Fukaboshi-neesama, Manoboshi-neesama, Ryuboshi-neesama would all be really sad. The Straw Hats too. And kaa-sama as well and Luffy-sama too even though he hates pirates. If I go with you then they'll all be sad. So I'm sorry Sanbi-sama, but I can't go with you," said Shirahoshi.
Sanbi silently closed his eyes.
"I see," said Sanbi with his eyes closed which then opened up.
"Then I'll take you with me," said Sanbi forcefully.
"Don't count on it teme," retorted Zoro who crossed his three swords over his chest.
"Oni Giri," called out Zoro who charged at Sanbi at high speed.
At the exact moment that Zoro was about to swing his swords, Sanbi held out his hands and caught Zoro in mid attack. The force of Zoro's attack caused a shockwave to be generated by the collision however Sanbi himself was unaffected.
Sanbi then hurled Zoro hard into the ground causing it to crack and for Zoro himself to scream out in pain. Sanbi was then about to lay a massive punch to Zoro when he suddenly swung his massive fist back.
"Yohohohoho," said Brook who jumped into the air in time to avoid Sanbi's massive swing.
"Swallow Bond en Avant," called out Brook who while mid air thrusted his sword downward.
Brook's attack hit Sanbi's shoulder dead on but there was no damage.
"What, that didn't work!" cried out Brook in surprise.
"A direct sword attack doesn't work on this guy. Just how tough is his skin," commented Chopper.
Sanbi then grabbed Brook's face and slammed him down onto the still downed Zoro causing both of them to cough up. Suddenly Chopper in walking point sprinted towards Sanbi and changed into Arm Point just before reaching him.
"Arm Point," said Chopper changing into arm point.
"Kokutei Rosea," said Chopper who punched Sanbi's face with his hoof.
The attack however only seemed to annoy him as he grabbed Chopper's hoof arms.
"You guys are all really annoying," said Sanbi who threw Chopper away.
The distraction however took his attention off Zoro and Brook for a moment. Quickly crossing her arms, Robin called out.
"Ochenta Fleur," said Robin.
Several arms sprung in a line on the ground and began rolling both Zoro and Brook away. Quickly realizing what happened, Sanbi turned his attention back to Zoro and Brook.
"You're not getting away that easily," said Sanbi going back after Zoro and Brook.
Just as he was about to attack Zoro and Brook, Zoro swung his swords while on the ground sending two compressed air projectiles at Sanbi.
"Nanajuni Pound Ho," said Zoro sending the two air projectiles at the fishman Knight.
Sanbi countered by simply blocking the attack.
"Again he's blocking my attacks with such ease. Just what is his power?" questioned Zoro to himself.
When Sanbi finished blocking the attack, he suddenly saw Sanji appear before him. Then he saw several large bamboo stalks just grow around him.
"Midori Boshi: Take in Jave-rin," said Usopp.
The bamboo stalks temporarily prevented Sanbi from moving so that Sanji could attack him freely.
"Mouton Shot," said Sanji who delivered a stabbing kick to Sanbi's midsection that sent him flying back even breaking the bamboo stalks at the moment.
"Alright good job Sanji," cheered Usopp.
"Don't celebrate just yet. That guy's just fine," replied Sanji.
Sanbi proved to be an absolute juggernaut capable of tanking both his and Zoro's strongest attacks both of which are capable of easily destroying tough steel but Sanbi didn't appear affected. Sanji deduced that it was due to the power of D that was giving him such insane resistance to their attacks. Also if he was able to shrug of Sanji's Diable Jambe, then a normal Mouton Shot wouldn't do very well against him. The only reason that Sanji didn't bother activating his Diable Jambe was because Sanbi's strength would have allowed him to easily break out of Usopp's temporary bamboo trap and if he didn't then Sanji wouldn't have gotten that hit. Despite it doing little to no damage due to Sanbi's own power and Sanji not using Diable Jambe, the powerful fishman was sent back a far distance giving the Straw Hats time to quickly regroup.
And Sanji was correct to think so as Sanbi easily broke out of the rubble and began walking towards the group his face neutral. The Straw Hats also had neutral faces as despite Sanbi's great power, the Straw Hats faced many powerful foes in the past and given that Sanbi was a D, then it was to be expected that he'd be extremely powerful.
"You're teamwork certainly is flawless, far greater than any other group. Luffy himself told me about your teamwork and how you all work well in combination attacks. But even that isn't enough to overcome my power, the power of D," said Sanbi resolute.
"Then why don't you tell us what this so called power of D is," said Zoro.
Sanbi looked back at Zoro who chose to answer his unspoken question.
"We keep hearing that it is the power of the gods and it makes the person invincible and what not, but we still don't know exactly what it is or what it does," said Zoro.
"Indeed we don't, perhaps you could fill us in on it," said Robin who felt there was no need to try and manipulate Sanbi into telling them.
Given the amount of pride that Sanbi has as a D, then he would surely want to tell them without them having to trick him into doing it.
Sanbi looked back at the Straw Hats before answering.
"Alright, I'll tell you," said Sanbi.
"Remember what I said about how a D was the first to discover the power of haki. Well you see the reason for that is because bearers of D are natural haki users. When it comes to using haki, there is none better than the D," started Sanbi.
The Straw Hats could at least accept that. Luffy himself was a natural when it came to haki far better at using it than Zoro and Sanji. Also even more was that in two years he was able to better harness all three types of haki than either of them who were only able to use two. That meant that not only was Luffy able to use more types of haki than both of them, but he was also able to use it better than they could. If that didn't say something about the D and haki, then they weren't sure anything could.
"The first user of haki was a D named Darcia and he actually awakened it by accident," said Sanbi.
"Accident," said Sanji.
"That's correct. It's not so hard when you think about it. If I recall Luffy did accidently use the haoshoku haki against someone just before you first arrived at Sabody Archipelago," said Sanbi.
The Straw Hats remembered that time. Before they reached Sabody, they met Duval, someone who just by coincidence happened to be the spitting image of Sanji's wanted poster. This made him develop a grudge against the crew, particularly Sanji. This led to a short battle between him and the crew over him wanting to kill Sanji and him having captured Hachi and then Keimi. During that time, Duval unleashed his trump card, a large bull. The bull charged at Luffy who was able to stop it using brute strength. But then suddenly, something strange happened. The bull began sweating and panicking and all of a sudden fell unconscious. None of the crew, not even Luffy himself knew what he had just done. It was not known at the time, but Luffy accidently awakened the haki said to only be possessed by one in a million people, the haoshoku haki.
"Haki is something that can be achieved and mastered through intense battle or rigorous training. The Ds however are born with such a natural affinity to it that it requires little effort to awaken and master. In fact in some cases, such as with Luffy, it can be awakened completely by accident. He didn't even require a big battle or training to awaken it," continued Sanbi.
"Such was the case with Darcia. Darcia awakened it completely by accident, but that proved to be a turning point for him for it made Darcia into the strongest individual of his era and one of the strongest of all time. During his time, haki was something that hadn't even been discovered yet so when Darcia was able to use it, it allowed him to literally dominate his enemies and made him into a legendary being," explained Sanbi.
The Straw Hats didn't need to have to think about it too hard. All of them, particularly Zoro and Sanji knew about how useful and powerful haki was. So for Darcia to be able to use it in a time when no one else could, he would certainly be the most powerful individual at the time and his power would be thought of as legendary.
"In fact Darcia's might was so vast that his power was thought to be legendary and nothing more than a mere myth," said Sanbi.
"You know I did remember hearing something similar from Doflamingo," said Usopp.
"Yeah now that you mention it," said Franky remembering the words coming from Doflamingo.
Flashback Begin
"I'm sure that you have heard many stories about legendary warriors with incredible strength. Even though these stories are just legends, all legends come from some truth. And the truth that inspired these legends was the warriors who possessed this great power, the power of D," explained Doflamingo.
Flashback End
"So that's what Doflamingo meant, about stories about guys with incredibly power. He was referring to Darcia, the founder or haki," said Brook putting the pieces together.
"All legends come from some truth. And the truth behind the powerful fighters of legends was that Darcia truly was a mighty warrior, perhaps the greatest his time, so great that he would certainly be legendary," said Robin.
"And that power of D. If no one could really use haki at the time while Darcia could, then it would make sense why him and his powers would be considered a myth and how incredibly stories would be told about his power," said Nami.
The Straw Hats then began to see some of the pieces fit together. Doflamingo's words about the powerful warriors at the time, the legendary power of D, Darcia being the first to awaken it and the D's being natural haki users. It all began to fit into place and explain the mystery of the fearsome Knights of D and the mysterious power of D.
"You know I remembered reading about something similar," said Robin suddenly.
All the Straw Hats turned to Robin's direction wanting to hear what she heard about Darcia and the power of D.
"Before I joined the crew, I remembered reading a few poneglyphs about an individual named Darcia. It didn't say what his powers were but it did say that he was an extremely powerful warrior and that his power made him extremely feared and respected throughout the world. I guess now we know why," said Robin explaining what she heard about the founder of haki from her reading of the poneglyphs.
"Since his name was on the poneglyphs then it would imply that Darcia was from the void century one thousand years ago and that he was the strongest of that period. And from what you just said, it was because of his usage and mastery over haki," said Robin tying what she already knew to what Sanbi just said.
What that essentially meant was that Sanbi was not lying about the D essentially being the founders of haki. That fact that Robin confirmed that Darcia's name was on the poneglyphs meant that Darcia was actually a real individual, not some made up legend. And if he did exist, then him being the first haki user and dominating his era would be true and so would the power of D. Also it would explain how many people in this modern era can use haki. Someone had to have discovered it and then it would have spread to the rest of the world.
"Darcia's revolutionary discovery of haki isn't really what made him so feared during the void century. It was something else," said Sanbi.
"What it it?" asked Chopper.
"Darcia may have discovered haki at the time but as you all know haki isn't restricted to any sort of bloodline. Anyone could use haki though those who aren't Ds require much more training to master it. That doesn't change the fact that anyone could use it and during Darcia's time, many learned how to utilize it. They obviously couldn't use it as well as Darcia could but they could learn how to use it nonetheless. Many learnt how to utilize the skill and thus the power known as haki began to spread around the world," said Sanbi.
"What made Darcia so feared was the power of D. As the name implies, this power is exclusive only to Ds and haki while Ds having natural mastery over it isn't exclusive to only them. No, Darcia had something else, something exclusive only to those of the bloodline of D. That is the power of D, and what made him the legend that he was," said Sanbi.
"So what the hell is it?" asked Sanji getting irritated by Sanbi's riddles.
"As you all know there are three types of haki. Kenbunshoku Haki or Color of Observation and Busoshoku Haki or Color of Armament are the two types that most people can use. There is also a third extremely rare type Haoshoku Haki or Color of the Supreme King which only one in a million people have. However there is also a forth type of haki," revealed Sanbi.
This information now got the Straw Hats' attention. They already knew about kenbunshoku haki or observation haki, busoshoku haki or armament haki and the very rare haoshoku haki or conqueror's haki. But they never knew that a forth existed.
"A forth haki," said a surprised Zoro.
"That's right. This forth haki is the power that Ds possess and what truly made Darcia the powerful warrior that he was at the time along with the source of power of Dragon-sama and all the Knights of D, Kamishoku Haki or Color of the Divine God," finally revealed Sanbi the legendary power of D.
"C – C – Co – Color…" stuttered Nami.
"Of the Divine God," finished Franky.
"Yes, kamishoku haki, Color of the Divine God or simply divine haki for short is the power of D. This unknown yet special and extremely powerful haki is the sacred power of D. Unlike observation and armament haki, this haki wasn't exactly given a name. The name Color of the Divine God originated because those who saw Darcia use it actually thought that he really was a god. After all only a god can use such divine haki, hence how the term came to be," explained Sanbi.
Yet another piece of the puzzle fit into place about the mysterious power of D, said to be the power of the gods. According to Sanbi, those who saw it actually thought that the individual really was a god. It perfectly explained why it was called the power of the gods. It must have really been something because according to Sanbi, people began to learn how to use haki after Darcia discovered it so it really had to be something powerful to put him on a level above everyone else and make him the strongest. The question was, what is it, what is this power that made everyone who laid eyes on him think that he really was a god?
"So what is this divine haki?" question Robin.
"As you are aware kenbunshoku haki gives the user the power of precognition allowing them to predict their opponent's moves, busoshoku haki gives the user an invisible armor that can be used for defense and even offense in some cases and haoshoku haki allows the user to overcome the will of others and even knocking out those weak willed. Kamishoku haki however is different from the other three types of haki," said Sanbi.
"Yeah how so?" asked Sanji.
"As their names imply, observation haki is used to "observe" and predict opponent, armament haki is used to "arm" yourself with an invisible armor and conqueror's haki is used to "conquer" those weak willed around you. Divine haki is different in that unlike the other three, it does not have direct applications on the enemies. Kamishoku is instead a haki booster," said Sanbi.
"Haki booster," replied Brook.
"That's right. It does not have any direct uses on an enemy. It is instead used to power up the other three types of haki thus making them significantly stronger and thus making the D more powerful," said Sanbi.
"Kamishoku is haki that all bearers of D are born with. However they are merely born with it, it is extremely rare for them to actually awaken it. In fact very few Ds save for the Knights are even aware of its existence and because of that, most Ds go through their whole lives never being able to use it," said Sanbi.
It made sense. If you don't know a certain power exists, then it was unlikely that you'll ever awaken it or learn how to use it.
"Kamishoku haki exists in all Ds as a massive reservoir of haki. This reservoir of haki lays deep in the D and can only be awakened through extreme emotions. The D must experience emotions so great that it literally breaks the emotional dam that holds back the divine haki," explained Sanbi how divine haki was awakened.
"Luffy actually was on the verge of awakening it after the death of his brother. He actually said it himself that he could feel it bursting out of him. However thanks to Jinbe who reminded him that he still had you all, he was able to overcome his grief. This meant that he lost the extreme emotions necessary in order to awaken kamishoku haki," said Sanbi.
Being reminded of how Jinbe helped Luffy back then always reminded them of how indebted they were to him. At that time as much as they wanted to help him, they couldn't because they were separated. Instead Jinbe took it upon himself to remind Luffy that he still had his nakama and to help him overcome his pain. Jinbe was there for him at the time he needed him the most and when they were unavailable. He really helped Luffy back then and for that they were thankful.
"After Luffy joined the army, Dragon forced him to confront his emotions about several terrible things from his past, both things that he was aware of such as the death of his older brother at the hands of the world government and dark secrets from his past that he himself was unaware of. The emotional strain on him was so huge that it caused him to awaken kamishoku haki," explained Sanbi how Luffy awakened kamishoku haki, the power of D.
The Straw Hats wondered what these terrible things from his past were and how they could have been so terrible that it would cause such a huge emotional strain on Luffy that he would awaken the sacred kamishoku haki. Just what did he hide behind that goofy idiotic grin of his? What terrible burdens and emotions did he have locked up that came out during their argument with him and Dragon forced him to release it. The Straw Hats knew that Luffy had great pain in his heart from losing Ace but when he returned he acted so happy and go lucky that they thought he had gotten over it. But they also knew that he didn't want his nakama to experience any sort of pain, so he must have kept it all to himself. They were his nakama and yet they failed to see the burdens he was carrying. Even if he never told them, they were still his nakama and they should have seen it. But they didn't and they suffered the ultimate price for it. They lost Luffy to Dragon who used it to turn him into something dark.
In addition they found themselves hating Dragon even more. Whatever feelings Luffy was going through, he should not have to shoulder and face them alone. His nakama should be there to share it with him, to ease the pain. Yet Dragon forced him to confront his suffering, subjected him to all the horrible emotions he experienced when Ace died all for the sake of power. Those were feelings that none of their nakama should ever go through especially not Luffy who practically gave everything for them. Nami and Robin who not only were very familiar with suffering and terrible memories, but also loved Luffy hated Dragon the most. They knew those feelings well and would never wish them upon anyone much less Luffy, who saved both of them from those terrible feelings. To think that Dragon would subject his own son to such terrible things.
"Luffy, just what did that man put you through to make you gain that power," said Nami deeply hurt at what Luffy must have went through to gain his power.
"Dragon, when I saw you I had a feeling that something was different about you. But I can't believe that you would do this to your own son. You truly are a monster Dragon," said Robin equally hurt by Luffy's feelings of pain and hating Dragon for forcing him to go through with it.
"You shouldn't be so judgmental, after all Luffy was very thankful for what his father did for him. It allowed him to achieve the power he needed to help him make things right in this world. Besides you all are in no room to talk. Luffy put himself through hell for all of you so it shouldn't be of any surprise that he would do the same for his father," said Sanbi.
The Straw Hats knew that there was some truth in Sanbi's words. Luffy on several occasions went to hell and back for each of them and would do so again without a second thought. But to think he would do that for a man as terrible as Dragon, it made them want to through up.
"Only because Dragon manipulated Luffy to his own will. The Luffy we know would never do that," countered Usopp.
"The Luffy you know. But then again, you never really knew him at all did you. You only knew him as the one you could turn to whenever you had a problem or needed help. You didn't know him as the one who his human and who also has emotions. All you cared about is what he could do for you. None of you ever cared about him because if you did, he would have never have had those terrible feelings or have joined us in the first place," replied Sanbi.
This made all the Straw Hats look down to the ground in shame. While what Sanbi said about them not caring about him wasn't true, what he did say about them never helping him with his feelings was. They should have helped him but they failed to see it and now he was gone. They always thought that he was invincible and wouldn't lose that they forgot that he was human and could be beaten, not by an actual enemy but by himself. They kept saying things like he wouldn't lose and when he lost on the inside, they just abandoned him and left him to himself. And now he was gone from them.
"Anyway like I was saying, extreme emotions are needed to awaken the divine haki, but once it is awakened more emotions can actually make it stronger. Emotions help power up kamishoku haki and make you stronger. So being more committed to a cause for example would make your divine haki stronger as is the case of the Knights whom are all committed to Dragon and his vision. For Luffy, finding out what happened to Bentham and Bonney in Impel Down made his kamishoku haki not only far stronger but much darker and fouler. It increased his hatred for pirates and this made his divine haki much stronger," explained Sanbi.
This made the Straw Hats even more worried about what would happen when they meet Luffy again. From what Sanbi said, Luffy would mostly likely kill them should he ever see them again. And he got significantly stronger from having awakened that divine haki after joining the revolutionary army. And if that wasn't bad enough he got even stronger from going into Impel Down. He was already the strongest of the crew before he left, after he awakened that power, he was strong enough to kill Big Mom a Yonko and Akainu the fleet admiral. Now finding out what happened to Mr 2 and Jewelry Bonney in Impel Down made him downright invincible.
"Like I said before, kamishoku haki is a haki booster meant to power up the other three types of haki. With the huge increase one gets from kamishoku haki, they can they use it to strengthen the other types of haki. The boost can be used to increase the predicting abilities of observation haki, increase the power of the armor from armament haki and allow you to knock out much larger groups of people or even much stronger willed enemies," explained Sanbi how kamishoku haki is used in conjunction with the other types of haki.
"So that's how none of our attacks seem to work on him. Because that kamishoku haki is making his busoshuku haki much stronger," reasoned Sanji.
"Correct, anyway of course divine haki is meant to be used in conjunction with the other types of haki meaning that you must be able to use the other types of haki. Without being able to use the others types of haki, even if you do awaken kamishoku haki, it will be useless," said Sanbi.
This was easy to understand. What was the point of having your haki significantly strengthened when you are unable to use haki in the first place. It would be a complete waste. All that power wouldn't be able to help you if you weren't able to properly use it.
"That is one of three reasons why so few ever are able to use kamishoku haki, excluding the fact that the individual must be a D. The first is that most Ds rarely ever go through the intense emotions necessary to awaken it. The second is that those who do awaken it do not know how to use haki so they are unable to use it," said Sanbi.
"The third is that the amount of haki they gain is so great that they cannot control it," said Sanbi.
"Cannot control it," said Zoro questionably.
"That's right. You see in most situations the larger the amount you have, the more difficult it is to manage. This applies to haki as well. The larger and more powerful the haki a person possess, the more difficulty they have in mastering it," said Sanbi.
This did make sense. Anytime there was a lot of anything, it would be more difficult to manage it. Having a large crew meant that it would be much harder to feed them, do roll calls etc and a large crew is more mutinous since they get less treasure due to distributions being too small as well as greatly outnumbering the captain. However a small crew is easier to feed, distributing treasure is easier so each crewmember gains a larger share and less likely to rebel since a small crew is less likely to overthrow the captain who is generally the strongest of the crew, though the Straw Hats would never attempt to a mutiny. But the idea didn't change, more of anything, more difficulty in controlling.
"Most people don't have that much haki so it doesn't take too much time for them to learn to control it. Vice admirals despite their strength don't have much haki compared to the D so they are able to master it in a relatively short amount of time. The exception however is Monkey D Garp who typical of a D possess large and extremely powerful haki. However he compensates for this with the Ds natural ability to control haki," said Sanbi.
"Other exceptions where Aokiji, Kizaru and Akainu when they were vice admirals. They had extremely powerful haki and great control over it. However it was still less than those of a D and they had powerful logia devil fruits to make themselves stronger," continued Sanbi.
All this was understandable. Those three were absolute monsters despite having only met two of them briefly. Their devil fruits were some of the strongest logias around and made them extremely dangerous. And as expected of an admiral they had powerful haki as well, not to mention great mastery over it though understandably it was less than Garp's who being a D was a natural when it came to haki.
"Roronoro Zoro, Black Leg Sanji, you two are quite skilled haki users. However that is because your haki is not very strong compared to Luffy's before gaining his powers. Though that is to be expected as he is a D and Dragon's son of all people," said Sanbi.
Zoro and Sanji didn't say anything but they could not believe that the gap between themselves and Luffy was so large even before his leaving. They already accepted that Luffy was stronger than them but according to Sanbi, his haki and mastery over it were levels above their own.
"I'm not saying that you two are weak, far from it. I am just saying that your haki is not as strong as Luffy's so you were able to control it easier. Of course Luffy was a prodigy when it came to haki even by D standards. He was Dragon's son after all. And during his training with Dark King Rayliegh he focused exclusively on haki while you two focused on other things besides haki," explained Sanbi.
What Sanbi said did help make Zoro and Sanji feel better. Luffy by blood was meant to use haki and while training with Rayliegh he only focused on haki while Zoro focused on increasing his swordsmanship skills and Sanji his cooking skills and running away from the okamas. So taking that it consideration, it was to be expected that Luffy would be a far greater haki user than either of them. Of course that was downplayed by the fact that they were only focusing on two types of haki while Luffy was focusing on three and the revelation that the only reason they could use haki as well as they could was because they didn't have very strong haki and the sheer difference in the haki levels of themselves and Luffy.
"Anyway as I was saying, the stronger the haki someone possess, the more difficulty they have in controlling it. Ds being natural haki users and born with particularly strong haki but that also means that they are born with the ability to control it very well. These two factors, being born with powerful haki and a natural ability to control it is what makes the D powerful haki users," said Sanbi.
"But that changes when they awaken the power of D. Despite their large haki, they learn to control it quickly and easily. But when they awaken the divine haki, the massive increase in haki becomes too much even for them. The combined power of their own regular haki and the immensely powerful kamishoku haki is so great that even the Ds who are born with the ability to easily control their haki ultimately cannot control. Even for them, it is too much," explained Sanbi.
"The result is that their ability to use haki plummets. The Ds when using the conqueror's haki is no longer able to select who he wants to render unconscious and just knocks out everyone, ally and enemy alike. Another problem is applying too much armament haki into their attacks and end up accidently killing the targets. Another includes having observation haki examine the entire surroundings, not just the enemy thus distracting the D from the task at hand. Because of this, those D who have awakened the divine haki prefer not to use it to avoid all these problems. That essentially means that they are unable to use it," explained Sanbi the disadvantage of kamishoku haki.
This did makes sense. All good things had some kind of disadvantage and in the case of kamishoku haki, it was that the increase in haki was so large that it becomes too much for the D to control and their haki just goes haywire in the process. It did give a clue as to how big an increase the haki was. If it was too much for natural born haki users like the D to control then it must have been absolutely massive. Preferring not to use it in order to use their own haki was the best solution for that problem. But it didn't explain one thing, and that was how presumably Dragon, Luffy and the other Knights could still use it.
"So how are you and the other Knights still able to use it if it is too much for the D to control?" asked Robin voicing everyone's question.
"Darcia was the first to awaken the divine haki so naturally he was the first to recognize the problems associate with it. So naturally he was the first to come up with a solution," replied Sanbi.
"Darcia found a way to control kamishoku haki," said Robin curiously.
"Yes, Darcia's time was an extremely warring period and he needed that power, he couldn't afford to not use. So in order for him to use the powerful haki without having to worry about the difficulties in controlling it, he created a new concept which would become synonymous with kamishoku haki," said Sanbi.
"And what is this concept?" asked Zoro very interested in this discussion about haki.
"Haki Enslavement," replied Sanbi.
"What?" replied Zoro confused at the term.
"Haki enslavement. As its name implies it basically means enslaving one's one haki so that it is completely submitted to them and that they have complete control over it," said Sanbi.
"When a D gains the divine haki, it increases the power of the haki they already have. So there observation, armament and conqueror's haki all become significantly stronger," started Sanbi.
"However all three types of haki becomes too strong for the D to control. That is where haki enslavement comes in," continued Sanbi.
"Normally when a person uses the conqueror's haki, they use it to dominate the wills of others thus rendering them unconscious. So those with weak wills or haki are knocked out by the conqueror's haki. In other words, their haki is conquered. The concept of haki enslavement is to use your conqueror's haki to effectively conquer your own haki, not someone else's," said Sanbi.
"Conqueror your own haki, what the hell does that mean?" asked Zoro.
"This guy really starting to not make sense," remarked Sanji though he was also interested in all this.
"When Darcia gained the kamishoku haki, he noted that it made his haki so much stronger that he could not control it. However it also made his haoshoku haki considerably stronger as well," started Sanbi.
"So what" retorted Sanji.
"Haoshoku haki is used to conquer haki. Normally that would be used to conquer an enemy's haki but Darcia thought about using it differently. Taking advantage of his own ability to easily control haki, he instead of overwhelming the will of someone else, decided to instead overwhelm his own haki. So if he could use the conqueror's haki on himself, then he could effectively conquer his own haki and hence fully control the kamishoku haki," explained Sanbi.
"His armament and observation haki was much stronger because of the divine haki but so too was his conqueror's haki. His conqueror's haki like his observation and armament haki was made stronger because it was strengthened significantly by the divine haki. Darcia believed that his haoshuku haki became so strong that it was strong enough to dominate his own observation and armament haki despite it being powered up by divine haki," said Sanbi.
"And he was correct. After focusing his powered up conqueror's haki on his own powered up armament and observation haki, he conquered and effectively enslaved it. Thus he gained complete control over the divine haki," said Sanbi.
"Obviously it didn't happen in one day. Darcia had to experiment a lot on it before he could finally get it right. There were many times he applied too much conqueror's haki and knocked himself out and times when he applied too little resulting in him not gaining much control over the kamishoku haki. But over time he did get it," said Sanbi.
"This was how he created the concept of haki enslavement and how it was used by future Ds to gain control over the kamishoku haki. It is this concept that Dragon and all the Knights use to gain control over the kamishoku haki," said Sanbi.
"Of course that meant that while he was using haki enslavement he was unable to knock anyone out since he was already using his conqueror's haki on himself. But that was alright. If he fought an enemy that was strong enough to force him to use the divine haki then it was unlikely that his conqueror's haki would have any effect on that enemy. After he defeated the enemy, he could stop using his conqueror's haki on himself so that he could once again use it to knock out others," said Sanbi.
"Darcia truly was a genius when it came to haki. He was not only the first to discover haki but also the first to awaken the kamishoku haki and the one who created haki enslavement. He was a true genius when it came to haki. He was indeed the Vegapunk of haki," said Sanbi linking Darcia's genius at haki to Vegapunk's genius at science.
The Straw Hats were all able to recognize the similarities between the ancient D and the top marine scientist. Vegapunk was the top marine scientist who was responsible for a number of incredible scientific breakthroughs. He developed the methods for allowing objects to eat devil fruits, developed the methods of coating the underside of ships with seastone to allow them to cross the calm belts without alerting the sea kings and was responsible for the Pacifista project. These were all absolutely unprecedented things in science. Similarly, Darcia did things which were unprecedented in haki. He discovered haki, its types and uses, first awakened the mystical and powerful divine haki and created the revolutionary concept of haki enslavement to allow Ds to properly harness the divine haki. The two were indeed great geniuses at their respective fields.
"As expected, haki enslavement has an important requirement. The individual must possess great mastery over conqueror's haki, something common in the Ds. Haki enslavement takes advantage of the fact that Ds usual have the conqueror's haki and that they are naturally excellent haki users. The thing is that most Ds except for Dragon-sama and the Knights were completely unaware of this concept and as a result were never able to use it. So those that did awaken the kamishoku haki were unable to use it since they didn't know about haki enslavement," said Sanbi.
Zoro and Sanji were disappointed by this. That haki enslavement thing would have been really useful for both of them but it required the conqueror's haki which neither of them had so it was out of the question.
"Beside Dragon-sama and the Knights there was one other D who could use both the kamishoku haki and haki enslavement," revealed Sanbi.
"Who was it?" asked Nami.
"It was none other than the Gol Roger, the King of the Pirates," said Sanbi.
"The King of the Pirates could use it. But I thought that only Ds can use that divine haki," said Usopp confused.
"Gol Roger was a D or did you forget the name of his son was Portgas D Ace," reminded Sanbi.
"Oh," said Usopp embarrassed that he forgot something so trivial.
"Gol Roger was indeed a D. His actual name was Gol D Roger. The world government simply called him Gold Roger because they were afraid of him. He was a D and also awakened the power of D so they called him Gold Roger to hide his status as a D," said Sanbi.
"Roger was the only D other than Dragon-sama and the Knights to have been able to use the power of D. This is what made him powerful enough to become the King of the Pirates," said Sanbi.
It did make sense now how Roger could be the King of the Pirates. With such a legendary power at his disposable then he certainly would have been the mightiest pirate ever.
"It was through Roger that a few people who were not Ds were able to learn how to use haki enslavement," said Sanbi.
"Wait I thought only Ds can use that haki enslavement thing," said Franky.
"No only Ds can use the divine haki. None Ds are capable of using haki enslavement though it is much harder for them to do so. In order to use haki enslavement you must have the conqueror's haki and great mastery over it, both of which are common but no restricted to the Ds. Ds usually posses the conqueror's haki and because they are naturally good at using haki, they can also control the conqueror's haki effectively enough to apply haki enslavement. It's only that they are unaware of the concept that they are unable to," explained Sanbi.
"None Ds however usually don't have the conqueror's haki to begin with. Likewise none Ds don't really have the great master over the conqueror's haki to use haki enslavement that is of course if they even have the conqueror's haki at all. But that doesn't mean that it's impossible. The two deceased Yonko Red Hair and Whitebeard along with the former first mate of the Roger Pirates, Dark King Rayliegh are capable of using haki enslavement," explained Sanbi.
None of the Straw Hats ever met Shanks or Whitebeard before and they are both dead so they never will. But they did meet Rayliegh before and remembered how he was able to use the conqueror's haki very well. They also remembered how he was able to fight on par with admiral Kizaru despite his being of old age. They now assume that it was because he was applying haki enslavement that he was able to achieve that.
"The only reason those three were able to use haki enslavement besides the fact that they had great mastery over the conqueror's haki was that they knew Roger and how he fought. Red Hair and Dark King were former crewmates of Roger and thus saw him use it a lot, meaning that they were aware of it and were able to learn it themselves. Whitebeard who was a major rival to him fought him a lot and thus was able to learn it himself," said Sanbi.
Sanbi's words did explain to the crew how Shanks, Whitebeard and Rayliegh were all so strong despite the latter two being in old age. They were all able to use haki enslavement to use their haki to its maximum potential. It would explain how they would even know such a rare concept. They were all associated with Roger who himself was a master at using it and by being so close to him, they were able to learn it. It also explained why other powerful figures did not know about it. Since they were never really connected to Roger, even if they have mastery over the conqueror's haki, they still would never have known about the haki enslavement concept since they never really met someone who could use it.
"Having said that, those who aren't Ds don't receive the massive power increase that the Ds get when they use it on their divine haki. None Ds when they apply haki enslavement are able to gain complete control over their haki. Their haki doesn't get stronger like the Ds who have awakened the divine haki. But all three despite not being Ds have immensely powerful haki and because they can use it far better by using haki enslavement, they still become significantly more powerful. So strong that two of them are Yonko and the final still able to take on an admiral," stated Sanbi.
Again it made perfect sense. The Ds who awakened the divine haki get their haki significantly strengthened and when this is tamed through haki enslavement they become vastly more powerful. None Ds don't get their haki strengthened, they simply gain far better control over it through haki enslavement. However that still meant that they would become far greater fighters since they could use their haki more effectively. This combined with the fact that all three already had monstrous haki certainly made them all the powerful figures that they were.
"Kamishoku, or divine haki more commonly known as the Will of D. Haki and will are one and the same. As Kamishoku is a special haki exclusive only to the D, it is the haki of D hence the expression Will of D," explained Sanbi the meaning of the phrase Will of D.
"I see, since kamishoku is the haki of D, and haki is willpower, then that divine haki, it is essentially the Will of D," said Robin now fully understanding the meaning of the expression Will of D.
"That is correct, however will no matter how strong is essentially useless if one does not know how to properly channel it into power," said Sanbi.
This did make sense, as everyone one of the Straw Hats had very strong wills. The fact that they were all able to get this far was testament of that. However only Zoro and Sanji were capable of channeling that strong will into actual power. The rest of the Straw Hats couldn't do that. Nami had a very strong will since she was able to go through eight years of hell as Arlong's slave. Yet despite that strong will, she couldn't do anything against him. Brook also had a very strong will because he was able to continue living despite his former crew being dead and he himself confined to the darkness. Yet that strong will was not enough for him to defeat Ryuuma. This showed that having strong wills was more or less pointless if one does not have the power to support it.
"Haki enslavement allows kamishoku to be used properly, in other words converted into power. It allows the user to covert kamishoku or Will of D into power and as this power is exclusive only to the D, it is called the power of D. Kamishoku alone is the Will of D but when combined with haki enslavement becomes the power of D. The power of D is the result of combining these two to create a being of extraordinary power. That is the power of D," explained Sanbi.
Now the Straw Hats understood what the power of D was. All of them especially Robin now knew what Will of D meant. It meant kamishoku or divine haki. And when this is combined with haki enslavement, that will is turned into power, a power that only the D can use, the power of D. It was truly an incredibly power ability that gave the user godlike powers, just like from the legends. And to think that Luffy possess such an incredible power.
"Another interesting part to all this is that there was one other person who learned haki enslavement all on his own, without having really been trained by anyone on how to use it, nor having formerly met anyone who could use it" said Sanbi.
"Who was it?" asked Chopper.
"None other than Luffy himself," revealed Sanbi.
"Luffy knew haki enslavement, but you just said no one taught him how to use it," said Brook.
"Not to mention Luffy didn't show himself using it back when we saw him fight on Fishman Island," said Franky.
"Rayliegh did know how to use haki enslavement but he never told Luffy that he could, nor did he teach him how to use it. So as far as Luffy knew, he never met anyone who could use haki enslavement," replied Sanbi.
"And as for the battle on Fishman Island, he did use it. I believe you saw some instances where parts of his body were black," said Sanbi.
The Straw Hats thought back to Fishman Island and remembered several instances that parts of his body were black. When he first defeated the Kraken was one along with a few times during his battle with Hody was another. But as far as they knew, Luffy was only using armament haki since he did say armament hardening. He never mentioned anything about haki enslavement.
"When someone applies armament haki on parts of their body, it coats that part with an invisible armor. However that by itself shouldn't make his arms turn black. With Luffy, his command over armament haki was so great that it actual made his rubber body undergo vulcanization," said Sanbi.
"Vulcanization," repeated Brook.
"It's a process whereby rubber becomes much harder and more durable becoming black in the process. It's called vulcanized rubber," said Franky explaining what vulcanization was.
"So when Luffy used that haki enslavement thing, his rubber body actually underwent vulcanization?" asked Franky.
"That's right, just applying regular armament haki shouldn't do that for Luffy. He used haki enslavement to gain such mastery over armament haki that he applied more than he normally would and this caused his body to go through vulcanization," said Sanbi.
"By I thought Rayliegh didn't teach Luffy about haki enslavement so how was Luffy able to use it?" asked Chopper.
"Rayliegh never intended to teach Luffy about it because he originally wanted to use the two years to train him on how to use the three types of haki. He did not expect that Luffy would master all three types as quickly as he did. Because of that, after he taught Luffy how to use the three types of haki, he left early to allow Luffy to train himself," said Sanbi.
"But then why didn't he teach Luffy how to use haki enslavement after Luffy was able to use all three types of haki? Surely there was enough time to do it," asked Nami.
"After Luffy mastered all three types of haki, there was only a few months left. Haki enslavement is not something that can be learnt overnight and a few months wouldn't be enough even for a D as talented as Luffy. So he decided it would be better for him to just leave Luffy on his own so that he could train himself," replied Sanbi.
"But Rayliegh severely underestimated Dragon's son. In just a few months Luffy discovered haki enslavement all on his own, without any knowledge or experience on it. He truly lived up to his father's name," said Sanbi.
"Because he already had a good grasp on haki enslavement, he was able to master the power of D at an immensely faster rate than anyone. As you know, the power of D revolves around using haki enslavement to gain complete control over divine haki. Because he already was able to use haki enslavement, it was only a matter of getting him to awaken kamishoku haki and then having him apply haki enslavement to it," continued Sanbi.
"Obviously his mastery over haki enslavement despite being good was nowhere near perfect since he had no one to teach him about it and didn't even know about it to begin with. But under Dragon's tutelage as well as the other Knights, he was able to become a highly skilled user of divine haki and haki enslavement," explained Sanbi.
"Furthermore his battles with the Yonko Big Mom and the fleet admiral Akainu caused Luffy to not only strengthen his divine haki but gain better mastery over haki enslavement thus resulting in him becoming immensely more powerful. Training can only take you so far, battle is required to truly grow," said Sanbi.
The Straw Hats were all amazed at Luffy when they heard all that. Luffy all on his own, no outside help discovered a revolutionary concept of haki that would later help him become as strong as he was. They knew that Luffy was a genius when it came to anything battle related. After seeing Blueno use Soru once, he created Gear Second immediately out of scratch in just a few hours based on the mechanics of Soru and used it skillfully during his rematches with Blueno and Lucci. Against Crocodile, after fighting him just once, he immediately discovered his weakness of water which was something no one of Alabasta had ever been able to do. Luffy was an absolute genius when it came to battle but this was on an entire different level. Discovering all on his own a concept that was lost during the void century and ironically enough was also discovered by his powerful father and ancestor. It was clear that Luffy was someone special, he was leagues above them. It also filled them with horror that such a special individual was used for such dark ambitions.
They had to get him back but first things first. They had to defeat the Knight standing infront of them. It was clear to them that Sanbi was also able to use kamishoku and haki enslavement. The two together formed the power of D and from what they knew, all the Knights could use both which meant that Sanbi could as well. The fact that he could wield such a powerful and dangerous ability truly made him a force to be reckoned with. He clearly was on a different level from any other opponent they had ever faced in the past and it was likely that had to face twelve more like him, including Luffy and then perhaps Dragon himself. It made the situation even graver but they had to push forward. Right now this person threatened Shirahoshi and they had to defeat him. If they failed, he would take her away to become a weapon of mass destruction for the most dangerous individual in all existence. They couldn't let that happen.
For her sake, for theirs and for Luffy's, they had to win this.
Phew, that was a really long chapter, the longest thus far. But it had to be the longest in order to fully explain everything in detail. I do apologize for how technical it was, but I wanted to explain clearly what the power of D really was. Some of you might have to read it more than once to get it. There is a lot of after chapter notes and I highly advise that you read them. You will better understand this chapter if you do. Feel free to do so and I hope to see plenty of reviews.
Anyway first to answer some questions.
I think chapters 4 to 20 have some grammatical problems. This was because originally the leader of the Knights of D was a character named Ren but after some thinking, I decided to make it Sabo whose full name is Outlook D Sabo. There is more information about replacing Ren with Sabo in Chapter 45 so please read it when you get the chance. Anyway I used a search and replace on all chapters where Ren appears and replaced "Ren" with "Sabo". It worked but it replaced all instances or Ren with Sabo. So for example strength became stsabogth and currently became cursabotly. I made the corrections on chapters where I found the mistakes but there are still corrections to be made elsewhere.
Somone asked if the Straw Hats are going to be using their new moves. The answer is yes. I am using One Piece wiki as a guide to write the battle scenes. And as the One Piece manga continues, more techniques appear on that site which means there are more moves for me to add to the fight scenes.
Another person asked about Luffy getting Ace's devil fruit. Well the problem with that is for Luffy to get Ace's devil fruit, he needs to have an irregular body structure like Blackbeard. And if Luffy has an irregular body structure then Dragon is also suppose to have one. In other words, if I give Luffy the flame flame fruit, I would have to give Dragon at least one other devil fruit. The problems is what devil fruit could I possibly give Dragon. He already has the weather weather fruit that allows him to control, thunder, lightening, wind, snow and even the sun. What devil fruit could I possibly give Dragon that could match the devil fruit he already has? I just can't see Luffy having two devil fruits and Dragon only having one. So for that reason, I probably wouldn't, not like he would need it. Luffy is an absolute beast as he is.
Some again wants to know when Luffy is going to appear. I already have a feeling when Luffy is going to show up but I cannot say or else I'll spoil all the readers. An important part of this story is suspense and drama and revealing when Luffy is going to appear will ruin that.
Someone complained about how the Yonko were just written off. Well to reply, this fic is about the revolutionary army being the main antagonist, not the Yonko. So for that to happen, the both the Yonko and the world government had to be destroyed. However I at least dedicated a whole arc towards the Fall of the World Government while giving nothing like that to the Yonko. The reason for that is because I know the abilities of the strongest world government fighters. I already know Kuma's, Akainu's and Kizaru's abilities so I was able to write full scale battle scenes with them. I don't know anything concrete about the abilities of the Yonko so I could not show them fighting and ultimately dieing at the hands of the Knights. But remember that even though Shanks was killed off screen by Blackbeard, I devoted the entire chapter 7 to him in "Shanks and Blackbeard." Likewise I do intend to reveal more about Big Mom and Kaido as the fic continues so they will be given some justice. Also the Yonko aren't completely dead, Blackbeard is still alive though unknown to most, he is one of Dragon's greatest subordinates.
I also think people forget that in this fic, Blackbeard has three devil fruits, not two as in Oda's One Piece. In this fic, Blackbeard has the darkness darkness fruit, the tremor tremor fruit and the Cerberus Cerberus fruit. Read chapter 37 "Profile of the Revolutionary Army" to find out more about how Blackbeard got his third devil fruit.
If anyone wants to use the whole divine haki and haki enslavement in their fics, feel free to do so. It's not like I'm getting paid to write this fic or anything so it wouldn't really cost me anything if writers want to use it, in fact it will just be another interesting fanfic to read. I would like to receive credit somewhere, like in the fic introduction or end of chapter notes or whatever.
Anyway that's it for the questions and answers. Now onto the chapter notes and explanations.
Looks like Shirahoshi was really tested here. Sanbi nearly succeeded in convincing her to come with him by mentioning Luffy's hatred of pirates. Luffy hates pirates and wants them all dead and Shirahoshi obviously holds Luffy's opinion in high regard. So if Luffy believes that all pirates should die, then Shirahoshi will likely believe it to some extent. And by going with Sanbi, she would use her powers to eliminate pirates, something that she believed Luffy would want. Also pirates do create a lot of problems on Fishman Island, capturing mermaids and selling them to slave traders, Hody himself was a pirate so Shirahoshi has a legitimate reason to believe that pirates do deserve death and suffering. That coupled with how she holds Luffy's opinion in high regard, she actually really started to believe that going with Sanbi was the right choice. After all by going with Sanbi, her powers would be used to eliminate pirates and by doing that she would make Luffy happy.
Vivi once again shows how she's Shirahoshi big sister. Remember she herself loves Luffy and holds him in high regards. So hearing that he hates pirates would shake her up as well. Despite this, she was still able to pull herself together to convince Shirahoshi to not go with Sanbi. Her protectiveness of Shirahoshi was strong enough to help her overcome her grief over Luffy's hatred and in turn allowed her to give Shirahoshi the strength needed to decline Sanbi's offer to come with him. Vivi once again shines as Shirahoshi's big sister.
Luffy does not want Shirahoshi to join the army. Sanbi was only half correct. He was right about Luffy hating pirates but wrong about Luffy hating pirates so much that he would want Shirahoshi taken away. The thing is that the argument Sanbi gave about Luffy wanting her to join the army so that she could use her power to destroy the pirates he hates so much was so convincing that even Shirahoshi believed it to some extent. It would make sense to her why he would want her to join. He hates pirates and if she joins, then all pirates could be killed or enslaved. The logic is there but Vivi and the Straw Hats were able to see through it. They could see that Luffy indeed hates pirates but he does not want Shirahoshi to be taken away even if it meant losing the opportunity to remove more pirates from the sea.
Luffy not wanting Shirahoshi kidnapped conflicting with Dragon wanting Shirahoshi for her power. It's obvious that Luffy and Dragon want two different things. Dragon wants Shirahoshi for Poseidon's powers but Luffy does not want Shirahoshi to be abducted. Well Dragon is a master manipulator and you're going to see how he gets around this later. Believe me, you're going to be surprised and once again see just how dangerous Dragon's intellect truly is and how great a writer I am. Not going to spoil it, but I'm actually impressed at the solution I came up with.
More about D has been revealed. Bearers of D are naturally good at using haki. Many of the strongest fighters of One Piece are Ds and can use haki. Luffy can use all three types of haki. Garp is a vice admiral who can use busoshoku haki and probably kenbonsoku haki (remember a doctor recommended Coby see Garp to teach him how to use kenbonshoku haki after the war implying that Garp can use it). And Roger's first mate can use all three types of haki so that implies that Roger himself can use all three types of haki as well. As for Ace, if the third and forth division commanders Jozu and Vista respectively can use haki, then Ace who is the second division commander should be able to use it as well. Jaguar D Saul is a vice admiral so he can use haki and Dragon, no explanation needed there. The point is that Ds are naturally good at using haki. Ds are so good at using haki that they could actually use it accidentally without any training, unlike Zoro, Sanji and other fighters who actually need to train in order to use it. Luffy accidently used haoshoku haki to knock out Duval's bull and Ace despite being a child used haoshoku haki to knock out the Bluejam Pirates during the Grey Terminal fire.
The origins of haki been revealed. Haki was first discovered by Darcia. He awakened it completely by accident since Ds do have a natural affiliation with haki. His discovery of haki allowed him to become the strongest of his era. And through him haki came into the world and became the power that it is today.
Remember in chapter 49 "Change the World" that Sanbi said that a D was the first to discover haki. That D has been revealed as Darcia. Also Sanbi said that haki by right belongs to the D. Why he said that has been revealed, as Darcia discovered haki, it belongs to his descendants which are the D. Sanbi also said that the world government and pirates stole his teachings. Why Sanbi said that has also been revealed. Haki belongs to D yet pirates and people from the world government know it. To Sanbi, those people are enemies to the D and enemies of Darcia and for them to use the power he discovered, they must have stolen it from him. Sanbi also said that Ds can harness the power of haki far greater than other people. That is because the D are naturally good at using haki and can use divine haki.
More information about Darcia has been revealed. So far from Chapter 20 "Elder Stars Fade and New World Order", we know that Darcia was the king of the ancient kingdom of Imperion, he founded the order of the Knights of D and is Luffy's and Dragon's ancestor. Now we can add to that. Darcia was the first to discover haki, though it was by accident. He was also the first to awaken kamishoku or will of D but took note of the difficulties in controlling it and hence created haki enslavement as a means to control it. Through the combination of the divine haki (will of D) and haki enslavement, Darcia discovered the power of D. He was the first to harness the power of D and this made him into the strongest warrior of his time.
The Straw Hats do not know that Darcia was the king of Imperion and the original founder of the Knights of D. The Straw Hats do not even know of the Ancient Kingdom's existence. What the Straw Hats know and what we the readers know is completely different. Just because we know about Darcia's origins as king of Imperion and founder of the Order of the Knights of D doesn't mean that the Straw Hats do. When Dragon was explaining to the Gorosei in Chapter 20 "Elder Stars Fade and New World Order" about Darcia, Imperion and the Order of the Knights of D, the Straw Hats were no where nearby. Robin did not find any poneglyphs about the Ancient Kingdom or the Knights of D and Dragon obviously did not tell Robin since Robin put her dream on hold for the two year timeskip.
Robin did not find any poneglyphs during her time with the Revolutionary Army. When the Straw Hats separated, all of them put their dreams on hold to train in order to become stronger to better protect each other. This applies to Robin as well. Robin knows that it would be unfair for her to search for poneglyphs while her nakama are training. That would mean that she is being selfish and thinking or her dream when her crewmates are thinking of becoming stronger. She can't pursue her dream when the others aren't doing so as well at the time. Also Robin wants to achieve her dream alongside her nakama. She wants Luffy and the others to be beside her when she finds the Rio Poneglyph otherwise her dream would be meaningless. This meant that she does not know about Darcia being the king of Imperion or the founder of the Order of the Knights of D. However she does know about him being the strongest of his time. She knew this before she joined the Straw Hats.
Why the D were called gods has been revealed. As haki, along with the power of D were both skills that no one had ever used before, when people first saw Darcia use it, they really thought that he was a god. He is using an incredible power that was completely unknown so it was thought to be a power beyond that of humans. And given that this power gave him god like strength, the only assumption was that Darcia truly was a god. Only a god could posses such incredible strength and use a power that no other human could use.
Doflamingo's words. Remember if Chapter 34 "True Power of the Army," Doflamingo cryptically referred to the power of the Knights, how the power they had was legendary and thought to be that of the Gods. Well now you see why, Darcia's power was so great that many actually thought that he really was a god.
Finally the power of D has been revealed. An important part of this fic was the power of D. We'll all know so far that it is a power that only Ds have and is the source of power of Dragon and the Knights. Now that power has been revealed. It is a forth type of haki known has kamishoku or color of the Divine God or divine haki.
So far there is a lot of hype in the One Piece community about what the Will of D is. Speculations are running rampart everywhere and so far Oda hasn't given any indication as to what it is. So I chose to capitalize on that and create it myself, what I think the Will of D is. I think Oda intends to give Luffy some kind of power up exclusive only to the D. Maybe Ds have irregular body structures that allow them to consume more than one devil fruit. Or maybe they have some special ability. Regardless of what it is, I'm sure that Dragon knows about it and Oda will have Dragon teach Luffy about it when they meet. But that is a long long time away and I am quite impatient so I created a power for those with D myself.
Motivation for creating this Power of D. In addition to having a lot of interest in the Will of D, I wanted to do something unique, in other words create a power that no other author has ever really given Luffy before. So far there are fics where Luffy is given different devil fruits, can use the rokushiki, can use a sword etc. But there isn't really any fic out there that gives Luffy any really special power. And also any special abilities Luffy does have, there isn't any real explanation behind it. So I created the power of D and in this chapter made sure to explain it as much as possible, how it works, the history behind its creation etc.
How Sanbi is so strong has been revealed. From earlier chapters, you've seen Sanbi tank Zoro's Santoryuu attacks and Sanji's Diable Jambe attacks which are strong enough to destroy a Pacificista with ease despite they're being much tougher than steel. Now we can see just how this is possible, the power of D, kamishoku combined with haki enslavement. The power of D is making Sanbi's busoshoku haki so strong that even Zoro and Sanji have difficulty harming him.
Why the name kamishoku was chosen. The three types of haki kenbunshoku haki, busoshoku haki and haoshoku haki all have "shoku" at the end of it. So I assume that shoku stands for haki. So that means that "buso" stands for armament, "kenbun" stands for observation and "hao" means conqueror. When buso, kenbun and hao combine with shoku, you get buso – shoku or armament haki, kenbun – shoku or observation haki and hao – shoku or conqueror haki. Kami literally translates into god. So when kami is combined with shoku or haki, you get kami – shoku or god's haki or Color of God. And since a god is a divine being, you get color of the Divine God, or simply divine haki. Hence how the name kamishoku originates.
Why everyone called Darcia's mysterious power kamishoku. At some point, haki became a fairly known skill, many knew about it but very few can really use it due to the amount of training it requires. Darcia's special haki kamishoku was something that no one can use no matter what. It was not something that can be acquired through training, it was exclusive only to Darcia. Darcia who possessed god like strength was using this mysterious haki that only he can use. Everyone thought that the reason that only Darcia could use this strange and divine haki was because Darcia truly was a god. And a god must naturally have god like haki. So this strange haki that only the "God" Darcia could use must be haki of the gods. Hence they named it kamishoku, or color of the Divine God, the divine haki that only a god can use, that only Darcia could use.
What does kamishoku do. Kamishoku is used to power up the other types of haki. It is a massive reservoir of haki that lays dormant within all Ds. When it is awakened, the D can use it to power up their haki and hence make themselves much stronger. As you know the more powerful your haki is, the stronger you are.
Prerequisites to awaken kamishoku. To awaken kamishoku, you must first obviously be a D but you must also experience extremely intense emotions. This is one of the main reasons that most Ds do not awaken kamishoku to begin with. The emotions necessary to awaken kamishoku must be so intense that it breaks the emotional dam holding kamishoku back. Most Ds go through their entire lives without experience emotions so intense. Also just because you awaken kamishoku does not mean that you can control it. Remember that kamishoku is a secret haki so not many people even know it exists. Even if the D awakens it, that does not mean you can control it. Remember very few even know it exists so you can't really learn to use a power when you don't even know what it does or that it even exists.
Emotions Luffy went through to awaken divine haki. Luffy was very close to awakening kamishoku after the War of the Best. He lost his older brother and the intense emotions he was experiencing nearly caused him to awaken it. He never actually said it to Jinbe or anyone, but he could feel something bursting out of him which was kamishoku. However Jinbe reminded him that he still had his nakama which allowed him to overcome his pain from the loss of Ace. Thus he lost the extreme emotions necessary to awaken kamishoku. In that respect Jinbe actually prevented Luffy from becoming stronger. However when Luffy joined the Revolutionary Army, Dragon subjected Luffy to a lot of emotional pain, by reminding him of Ace's death, how much Ace suffered as a child, all the suffering people went through because of the Tenryuubito and dark secrets from Luffy's own past. The Straw Hats gave Luffy the strength needed to overcome his emotions. Not only did Luffy loose his emotional anchor when he left the crew but Dragon forced Luffy to embrace them so that he could awaken divine haki.
Emotions powering up kamishoku. Emotions always help haki. Even before the time skip, when Luffy's knew his nakama were in danger, he became much stronger, because he was emotional. So the more emotional you are, the stronger your divine haki. Your emotions can be good or bad. For example, if you're in love with someone, that love powers up your divine haki. Also if you're evil or hateful, you're still emotional, you have negative emotions, but still emotions nonetheless and that evil or hate powers up your kamishoku. If you read chapter 37 "Profile of the Revolutionary Army," you would see that all the Knights are very emotional individuals. It is for this reason that they are all so powerful, their emotions make their kamishoku stronger. Dragon encourages them to be more emotional because not only does it power up their divine haki, but it makes them easier to control. Even loyalty is an emotion, and all the Knights are very loyal to Dragon, this loyalty actually makes their divine haki stronger.
Dragon and his emotions. From what we have seen of Dragon, he seems to cold, calculating and emotionless. However as we now know, for kamishoku to really make someone strong, they must have very strong emotions, whether it be love, hatred, pride, greed, lust for power, they need emotions. The thing is that Dragon unlike Luffy for example, can keep his emotions in check. Despite all of Dragon's emotions, he can control it enough so that it doesn't interfere with his thinking and planning. The Knights however despite their personalities are far too emotional to actually see through Dragon's deception hence why all of them trust him and never question him.
Applications of kamishoku. Kamishoku is used to make the other types of haki stronger. So for example you use kamishoku to power up kenbunshoku haki to increase your predictive abilities and hence allow you to keep up with opponents so fast that regular observation haki does work on. For example Sabo was able to use it to keep up with Kizaru despite him moving at the speed of light. It could power up busoshoku haki to make it stronger so that you are more resistant to far more damaging attacks. Luffy was able to use it to power up his armament haki such that it was resistant to even Akainu's magma attacks. And it could make your haoshoku haki stronger so that you can knock out much larger group of enemies or knock out very strong willed people whom you normally cannot knock out. Those are just some of the applications, there are many more such as increased strength, speed etc.
Drawbacks of kamishoku. Kamishoku as great as it is has dangerous drawbacks. First the emotions necessary to awaken it and make it stronger is so great that death is usually a better choice. Luffy for example suffered a lot of emotional pain in order to awaken and harness divine haki. Also it is an unknown haki so if a D awakens it, it is unlikely the D would have anyone to teach him how to use it. Darcia, Roger and Dragon are three of the very few Ds to master it without needing a teacher. Another disadvantage is that the increase in haki is usually so great that it becomes too much for the D. For example, your armament haki becomes so strong that you might accidently kill your own nakama in a friendly spar. Or you observation haki becomes so strong that you pay attention to everyone, not just your enemy and hence get distracted very easily. Or your conqueror's haki becomes so strong that you just knock out everyone, friend and foe alike, not selectively choose the people you wish to knock out. For this reason, the very few Ds who do awaken divine haki prefer not to use it because all those problems make it too impractical. Even Ds who are naturally good haki users cannot control their haki when it increases so much. So Ds such as Jaguar D Saul and Garp might have it, but simply chose not to use it because it has too many problems.
Darcia was a genius haki user. He was the first to discover haki, the first to awaken kamishoku and the one to develop haki enslavement. As you can see, he really was the one who really contributed the most to haki. Now you can see why Sanbi, said that the D discovered haki. Darcia himself was a D and since the D discovered haki, haki is the property of the D.
Zoro and Sanji not having much haki. According to Sanbi, Zoro and Sanji do not have very strong haki compared to Luffy. That does not mean that Zoro and Sanji have weak haki, that is not true, both their haki are very strong, just that it is significantly less than Luffy's. Take Sanji for example, Sanji in two years had to learn two types of haki while learning new recipes and running from the okamas. His mastery over haki shouldn't be that great since not only did he have to focus on other things but unlike Mihawk and Rayliegh, Ivankov was not his teacher, just a strong guy on the same island that he was on. This explains why Sanji does not have much haki, same with Zoro. Their haki is strong, comparable to many strong haki users, but small compared to the D. Since their haki is not as great as the D, it is smaller and thus easier to master.
Ds and haki. Ds generally have extremely large and powerful haki. That should mean that it is difficult to master since it is hard to control that much haki. This is compensated by the fact that Ds are simply just good at using haki. In retro respect, Ds have the perfect combination of haki and control, they are really lucky to have that.
Controlling kamishoku. Divine haki increases the haki of the D so much that even though the D are naturally good at haki, it is still too much for them. However Darcia discovered a way to control it, a concept called haki enslavement. Haki enslavement is the only way to properly control divine haki. It solves all the problems associated with kamishoku. So you pretty much cannot find a D using kamishoku without using haki enslavement. Also note that you don't need kamishoku to use haki enslavement but you must be able to use haki enslavement to use kamishoku.
Haki enslavement. Haki enslavement is a concept created by Darcia to control kamishoku. As Darcia was the first to awaken kamishoku, he was naturally the first to recognize the problems with it. And he was also the first to come up with a solution that being haki enslavement. Because of the warring time that Darcia was in, he needed to find a way to control his divine haki. He couldn't continue going on without being able to control it especially since the increase in haki thanks to kamishoku was literally screwing up his ability to use haki. So he had to find a way to control his divine haki. And he did find a way, that being haki enslavement.
What is Haki Enslavement. Haki enslavement as the name implies means enslaving your own haki. When you use the conqueror's haki, you overpower the wills of others around you, in other words, you conquer their weaker wills or weaker haki. And when you conquer, you also usually enslave. What haki enslavement does is that you apply your own conqueror's haki on yourself essentially, overcoming, conquering and hence enslaving your own haki. Since you conquered and enslaved your own haki, you gain complete control over it. Kamishoku, powers up the haki of the D, in fact it powers up their haki so much that they cannot control it. However, it also powers up your haoshoku haki, making it stronger, strong enough to conquer you own haki, despite it being strengthened by kamishoku.
Prerequisite to using haki enslavement. To use haki enslavement use must have great control over haoshoku haki. Haki enslavement is centered around using your conqueror's haki on your own haki to force it to submit. But you cannot conquer your own haki if you don't have the conqueror's haki to begin with. Also simply being able to use the conqueror's haki isn't enough, you must have a lot of control over it.
Blackbeard, Kamishoku and Haki Enslavement. Blackbeard is a special case among the Knights, perhaps even more special than Luffy due to his role. Blackbeard is an emotional individual, his emotions are greed, lust for power etc. Blackbeard knew haki enslavement before he met Dragon. Remember Whitebeard is a rival to Roger and hence acquired to skill by watching him, could use conqueror's haki and thus could use haki enslavement. So Blackbeard saw Whitebeard use it and learnt how to use it himself. Dragon gave Blackbeard the darkness darkness fruit and taught him the Devil fruit stealing technique in exchange for him carrying out Dragon's master plan by starting the War of the Best.
Zoro and Sanji would not be using haki enslavement. Haki enslavement requires the user to have the conqueror's haki something which neither of those two have.
Difficulty in mastering haki enslavement. Haki enslavement is a very difficult concept to use. Ds are naturally good at using haki so they can use haki enslavement better than others but it is still very hard. If you apply too much conqueror's haki, you'll knock yourself out. If you apply too little, you'll not get much control over kamishoku. You need to find the right balance to properly use.
Drawbacks to using haki enslavement. Haki enslavement allows you to control kamishoku which is nice and all but it also has drawbacks. The first is that it is difficult to use the right amount of conqueror's haki. Using too much can result in knocking yourself out and using too little would mean that you wouldn't gain much control over it. Finding the right balance can be tough. This is even more difficult in the heat of battle when you're fighting someone. Your concentration is effectively split between fighting your opponent and using your conqueror's haki on yourself properly. When you should be focusing on your enemy, you're instead focusing on your own haoshoku haki. This loss of focus can be dangerous against stronger enemies. Another drawback is that you cannot knock anyone out with the conqueror's haki because you are already using it on yourself.
Inability to use conqueror's haki while applying haki enslavement. While you're using haki enslavement, you cannot knock anyone out with haki. That is because you are already using it on yourself so you cannot use it on anyone else. However this isn't really a problem. If an opponent is strong enough to force you to use haki enslavement then it is unlikely that you'll be able to knock them out with haoshoku haki. So not being able to use conqueror's haki is not really a problem. Once you defeat your opponent, then you can stop using haki enslavement meaning you stop using the conqueor's haki on yourself. Thus as soon as you stop using haki enslavement you can once again knock out weak willed people with haoshoku haki.
Haki enslavement is not restricted to the Ds. You don't have to be a D to use haki enslavement. Once you can use the conqueror's haki, then you can use haki enslavement. Haki enslavement was created by a D and created specifically to control kamishoku which is something only Ds can use but none Ds can still use haki enslavement. The thing is that non Ds are not as great haki users as Ds and remember that Ds themselves have great problems using haki enslavement. So if a D has so much trouble with haki enslavement, think about how much trouble a none D would have using it. Also because none Ds cannot use kamishoku, when they use haki enslavement the boost in power isn't as great as the Ds. So none Ds don't get as much a power boost as Ds do when they use haki enslavement, however they still get noticeable stronger though.
None Ds who can use haki enslavement. Shanks, Rayliegh and Whitebeard are amongst the few none Ds who can use haki enslavement. Haki enslavement gives the user total control over their haki making them amongst the greatest haki users in the world and all three of them have been shown to be skillful haki users. Also to use haki enslavement you must be very good at using the conqueror's haki and all three meet the critieria, Whitebeard was just simply never shown using it but one of his crewmates actually confirmed that he could haoshoku haki. None of them can read the poneglyphs so it's obvious they wouldn't know about haki enslavement from it. But remember Roger is a master of haki enslavement and all of them are close to him in some way. Shanks and Rayliegh being Roger's crewmates saw him using haki enslavement a lot so naturally they would pick up on the skill. Whitebeard was Roger's rival so he would pick up the skill from seeing his rival use it. All three of them being able to use haki enslavement would explain why they are so strong. It would especially explain how Rayliegh and Whitebeard could be so strong despite their old age.
How did Roger and Dragon know about kamishoku and haki enslavement. Kamishoku is something that is unknown to the world and haki enslavement was equally as unknown. Haki enslavement was created specifically to control divine haki so if no one knew about kamishoku, then they would not know about haki enslavement either. So just how did Roger and Dragon gain the knowledge to use kamishoku and haki enslavement? The answer is the poneglyphs and the true history. Remember the only records of Darcia and his unique powers and discoveries are in the poneglyphs. So if you can read the poneglyphs, then you can learn about divine haki and haki enslavement. And both Roger and Dragon can read the poneglpyphs. Rayliegh actually confirmed that Roger could read the poneglyph and Dragon as well, in fact Dragon is more knowledgeable about Darcia and the Void Century that anyone else. Both Roger and Dragon read the poneglyphs and hence learned all they needed to know about kamishoku and haki enslavement. Thus they were able to learn how to use it without anyone having to teach them.
The phrase power of D has finally been explained. Notice how throughout the fic I was saying "power of D" not "will of D." That was something I did deliberately because the will of D and the power of D are too different things. Will refers to haki and haki literally translates to will, in other words, will is haki. Kamishoku is the special haki that only Ds can use, meaning that kamishoku is the will that only Ds have. Thus kamishoku is the "Will of D". Now will and power are two different things. You can have a lot of will, but it is pointless if you do not have the power to effectively use it. Vivi has a lot of will since she put herself at great risk to save Alabasta, yet despite all that "will", she didn't have the power to stop Crocodile. Brook has a lot of "will" to have survived in the Florian Triangle for so long with his crewmates dead and having been confined to the darkness, yet despite all that "will" he still could not defeat Ryuuma to reclaim his shadow. Amongst the Straw Hats, only Zoro and Sanji can convert "will" to "power". Kamishoku is the will of D, but if you cannot use haki or unable to use haki enslavement, then you are unable to use kamishoku or will of D in battle. But by using haki enslavement, you thus tame your kamishoku and hence be able to harness its power. Thus using haki enslavement allows you to convert kamishoku or "Will of D" into power or "power of D" in this case. Specifically using haki enslavement on kamishoku creates a power exclusive only to the D, hence the term "power of D."
I haven't explained everything related to the Ds yet. This chapter has revealed a lot about the Ds but it hasn't revealed everything about their powers. The ability to read the poneglyphs, the "Voice of all Things" and the ability to hear sea kings, that and a lot more still has to be covered. But for now this should be enough.
Luffy's quick mastery over the power of D has been explained. Remember that I said that the power of D takes years to learn and Luffy only took a week to master it. An explanation has been provided. Before Luffy joined the revolutionary army, he could already use haki enslavement. Luffy discovered it all on his own. Luffy is a genius in anything battle related. Just from watching CP9 use soru once, he was able to use the mechanics behind to develop Gear Second (not quite counting Movie 7 since that isn't cannon). Luffy just by fighting Crocodile once discovered his weakness despite being on the verge of death, something that no one else in Alabasta had ever been able to do. When it comes to battle, Luffy grasps advanced concepts easily and he once again showed it by learning haki enslavement in only a few months when it would normally take years without any teacher. Since Luffy already had a good grasp on haki enslavement, it didn't take him very long to master the power of D.
Luffy's awakening of the Power of D. Luffy awakened the power of D in a week when it would normally take years. The reason that it takes so long is because of how difficult haki enslavement is. Luffy however was able to learn how to use haki enslavement in only a few months when it would normally take years. So when he joined the revolutionary army, he already had a good grasp of the main skill needed to control divine haki under his belt. The week was spent making Luffy to confront his emotions to force him awaken kamishoku and just getting him to better use haki enslavement. Remember Luffy discovered haki enslavement by himself so it was far from perfect. He still needs a master like Dragon to better teach him. So when you factor all this, Luffy only took a week to master the power of D.
Why Rayliegh didn't teach Luffy how to use haki enslavement. Rayleigh once said that two years would not be enough time to learn how to use all three types of haki but he would still try and get Luffy to learn all three. And he succeeded, in fact Rayliegh finished teaching Luffy how to use all three in less time than he thought. But still despite having finished training Luffy early, to him there still just wasn't enough time to teach him a concept as advanced and difficult as haki enslavement. There was only a few months left and it would normally take years to be able to use it. So Rayliegh thought it would be more practical to just leave Luffy alone and let him train himself. He did not expect Luffy to be able to use haki enslavement in such a short time. Also he didn't try and get Luffy to awaken his divine haki because of terrible emotions needed to awaken it.
Vulcanization. When Luffy used armament haki to turn his arm black, he was actually using haki enslavement. Thanks to the use of haki enslavement, his mastery over his busoshoku haki was so great, that it caused his arm to undergo vulcanization. Vulcanization refers to the process where rubber becomes much harder and more durable becoming black in the promise. Haki is meant to form an invisible armor around the user, and when Luffy used armament haki around his arm, his haki was visible, which shouldn't be possible. Simply just applying haki shouldn't make Luffy's rubber body undergo vulcanization, it had to be something more than that and that something was Luffy unknowingly using haki enslavement.
Individuals turning parts of their body black when using busoshoku haki. So far when certain individuals like Smoker and Vergo use busohoku haki on parts of their body, that part turns black. But that wasn't shown until the Punk Hazzard Arc, long after chapter 653 and episode 573 which is where this fic diverges after. I just cannot see having characters turn their limbs black so I made that exclusive only to Luffy. Also prior to the timeskip, I don't recall seeing any character have their limbs turn black when using busoshoku haki. I never recalled seeing Whitebeard or Marco turn their limbs black when facing the admirals and their logia abilities. Also when Rayliegh was first explaining haki to Luffy, I don't recall Rayliegh's hand ever turning black. So if monsters like Whitebeard, Marco and Rayliegh do not have their limbs turn black when using armament haki, then I don't see why guys like Smoker and Vergo would. That is just my reasoning.
Well I think that is about everything. Hopefully I explained everything and hope everyone gets it. I am especially looking forward to reviews for this chapter as it took me a while to think of a revolutionary concept that has never been done to any One Piece fic. So please review, I want to hear your thoughts on my concept.
