Chapter Eight:

Laughing Stock

"Step right up!"

"C'mon, I'll give you a free turn!"

"You always win a prize!"

Fiona's eyes lit up while she watched each worker at different games try to get people to join and give them money. She had watched her group of new friends for awhile before Scourge had tugged her off to the basketball game.

She was wandering around while he shot the basketball just for fun, making conversation with the guy working who was a possum.

All the workers wore blue uniforms with a black pocket around their waist like a fanny pack to keep the money in. The opossum dyed his hair orange and looked to be about in his late twenties with some tattoos going down his right arm. Scourge shot the basketball again and it went in.

"Hey, pretty fox," she heard.

A worker at the balloon game called her over. He was a black wolf with ice blue eyes and shaggy hair. It reminded her of Liam.

Liam…I gotta find that guy and tell him to give me my hair back.

Fiona walked over to the game and smiled as he gave her a dart. On her first try, she popped two balloons. The wolf whistled. "See? You could win this game far and square."

The female giggled, holding onto her stomach protectively. She wore a puffy, navy blue shirt with short, light blue jeans that had some beads on them that sparkled in the sunlight. She had her shorter hair up into a messy bun and wore a light blue headband she borrowed from Amy. Some small pieces of hair stuck out on her forehead, going down and were slightly curled.

"Just try it," the wolf said with a toothy grin and a wink.

Fiona sighed and nodded, pulling out her money. "What's it cost?"

The wolf chuckled, seeing as this was already his lucky day after getting a whiny kid to come over, a plump woman that was with her husband and pet dog, and then a pretty fox. And it was still early! He was rather an optimistic wolf. The other guys with the same game hadn't been as fortunate.

He got the good prizes at his booth. On the other side of the booth was the same game only a different worker.

"Four for a dollar."

Fiona glanced up. That was lot…to her. She gave him two dollars anyway and got nine darts after he threw in an extra.

The wolf had eyes on Scourge though, who was still talking to the worker at the basketball game and sometimes shooting the basketball. He had watched the pretty fox in front of him walk to the games with Scourge.

Fiona threw the darts and got eight balloons popped. This had always been her favorite game, she just felt goofy playing it in front of a lot of people, even if they watched it or not.

"Alright!" The wolf laughed, getting the darts back in the basket and pointed at a stuffed colored monkey that was blue through other ones that were pink and green. "You can have one of these or one of those sea turtles," he pointed to the other side where the green, blue or pink sea turtles were placed. "Or you can always play for something bigger," he winked, pointing up to the bigger stuffed animals.

Fiona giggled, pointing at the bright blue sea turtle. "Maybe I'll just come back," she winked while he handed her the stuffed toy.

He watched her go with a smile. Scourge shook hands with the worker at the basketball game and met up with Fiona. "Where'd you win that?" he pointed to the turtle.

"The balloon game."

Scourge nodded in his head knowingly. "Right, right, I saw that one."

"Oh!" Scourge heard Fiona say.

He couldn't quite explain what happened next. It felt like she was ripping his arm out from his shoulder socket, trying to get to a quarter game.

It was a flat table with the colors; red, green and yellow on it. As she got closer to the game next to the balloon one, she noticed it had arches on it and words on it. The yellow arch was the biggest and filled in and said, 'Small prize' and the green was the one in between the other colors and filled in. It said, 'Medium prize' and then the red one was the smallest and it said, 'Large prize'.

Fiona was looking at how the game worked while the worker showed a little raccoon boy. She was a light peach colored tabby cat with red, short hair and a bob tail. She had freckles and wore the uniform while looking at the boy with her blazing green eyes.

Scourge was looking at the prizes.

Not much to choose from.

He snorted, staring at the giant dogs above his head and then at a container under the squared booth that held little, not to mention cheap, stuffed monkey toys that were just plain colors. In the middle about the white caged part where the sign with the prices were, were medium sized stuffed birds that had large heads and short bodies, also with large eyes.

"You sure you wanna play this?" Scourge whispered in Fiona's ear.

The fox nodded, Scourge sighed. Whatever made her happy was good enough for him now.

"Hello," the tabby cat smiled. "Wanna play?"

"Yes!" Fiona smiled.

"Okay, four quarters is a dollar," the tabby smirked, swishing her tail to the side.

Scourge gave her a five and the cat seemed surprised but got out the quarters for Fiona to flip. She put it on her thumb at first and then flipped it but it landed all the way on the other side of the table, sliding across and hitting the dirt floor.

The green hedgehog felt eyes watching them. He flashed his cold eyes to the side and noticed similar eyes looking back from a black wolf at the game Fiona had previously went to. Scourge smirked and grabbed a quarter.

"Fiona."

The fox stopped with the chucking of quarters in her mad rage. Okay, she wasn't chucking them but she was wasting his money.

"Throw it like this," Scourge put the quarter on his first two fingers, palm side, and then lightly tossed it.

They watched as it landed on the green. The cat clapped, "First one today to get past the yellow."

Scourge smirked, grabbing another quarter. He was about to show this tabby cat and that damn wolf staring at his girl just what he was made of.

"I plan on beating that record."

"Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Amy had convinced them to ride the first ride she had her eyes on…like usual.

Knuckles was gripping the chains in his seat on the swing-like ride where you'd latch yourself into a swing and the circular ride would go in…well, a circle and make the swings go along the side of the ride, up in the air.

Rouge watched her fiancé in front of her just in case he freaked out. But he wasn't the one with a height issue. Blaze was.

The feline had white knuckles by the time the ride started. Silver wasn't like Rouge. He was in front of Blaze and didn't bother to care if she freaked out or not. The cat had wide eyes. Though she definitely got more open, hanging out with the group, she also showed her fears quite well.

Sonic had joked with her when they were in line that if she did fall, she'd land on all her feet. Now, the blue hedgehog had an equally blue bruise on his left cheek. Sonic was behind Blaze and Sarah was behind Sonic. Amy was behind her and Shadow was behind Amy.

Tails was behind Shadow and Cream was behind Tails while Sunny was behind Cream and Manic was behind her. Flame was behind him and Sonia was behind Flame. Charmy didn't like sitting and letting something else do the flying but he liked being up in the air so he was behind Sonia and Vector somehow fit behind him. Espio was behind Vector and Alicia was behind Espio.

I think I got everyone…I mean, there are eighteen of 'em, twenty including Scourge and Fiona. I just hope I didn't lose you there…

Anyway, Amy and Alicia seemed to be the only ones excited about the ride. Alicia was swinging her legs while Amy couldn't stop smiling.

They were making the fourth turn while Blaze shut her eyes but that only made motion sickness so the cat had to open her eyes. She started to relax, breathing deeply and calming down. She smiled softly and swung her legs lightly.

"Weeeee!" Amy continued.

Blaze purred in delight and smiled brightly. Rouge was blinking continuously for some reason while they went around and Flame looked like he was nearly asleep, sprawled out. The sixth time around was the last time around and they stopped. Silver got off first and opened Blaze's swing up to let her out rather dizzily.

Blaze giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck. With a kiss, the couple left with the group.

"Let's go on the Scrambler!" Amy said, causing just about everyone to groan.

~~~.~~~
By the time they got off the Scrambler, Rouge's hips were hurting like crazy. At first, she was in line beside Blaze and Sarah, but then somehow she was in a cart with Sonic and Shadow. Didn't make sense to her either.
Having Sonic and Shadow squish her while she sat between them was not the best feeling in the world. Honestly. She had looked over to where Knuckles was with Cream and Amy—one of the two smallest girls there. Yes, Sonic and Shadow had small hips but they were still big hedgehogs, more muscular in that term and they still almost killed her.
She got out on wobbly legs, leaning against Sonic who chuckled at her. "Feeling claustrophobic, Rouge?"
"No," Rouge replied, standing up straight while other Mobians passed them, "Just squished."
"C'mon!" Amy hollered from the lead. "Footloose!"
"Oh, no," Cream whined. "Amy, do we have to do all of the rides?"
"If so, we're making you ride the kiddy rides," Silver muttered, rubbing his sore hips.
Amy waved them both off. "Relax, it'll be fun!"
"That's what Knuckles said when he got me drunk just so I could be dumped off at someone else's house," Silver answered, staring at the ground.
"I thought it was Shadow," Blaze narrowed an eyebrow.
Shadow snorted, rolling his eyes at the cat. "Would I really do that? I mean, c'mon, which one seems more likely to ditch Silver?"
Blaze was silent while pondering the thought before her and Sonic said, "Both."
Sonic grinned, "Silver's our main laughing stock."
Silver glared at him. "You are so going down."
"Hey, I mean it in a nice way," Sonic put his hands up in a surrendering motion. "Who does funny things better than you?"
"For once, Sonic is not bragging," Shadow smirked, getting a punch to the shoulder. "Easy, Faker, you're asking for trouble."
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not," Sonic put his nose in the air, hitting Shadow again just for the hell of it.
Shadow heaved a sigh through his nose. "Sonic, you're gonna get hurt."
"That's not my problem," Sonic folded his arms now, still with his snout in the air.
Shadow rolled his eyes, ignoring the blue hedgehog as they walked up to the ride. Rouge put her hand on her hip, leaning to the side despite the shot of pain going through her at first.
"It's so long!" she complained.
"We could play a game," Sunny suggested.
"Right, Silver—truth or dare?" Amy turned to the white hedgehog.
Silver moaned. "Do I have to?"
"Dare!" Amy squealed, looking around. "Oh, this is gonna be good."
Silver's eyes almost popped out of his head. "What? That's not fair! You don't get to choose!"
Shadow folded his arms, rolling his eyes again. "Silver, I'm pretty sure that still won't change her mind."
"Whatever," Silver growled under his breath.
"Okay, you see that brown cat?" Amy pointed at a female brown cat that was watching something on the giant slide kids were at.
"Sure."
"Go ask her to marry you and make a scene of it," Amy pushed him forward as he yelped.
"Are you joking!? Please tell me you're joking!"
"Nope, now go!"
"I don't want to!"
"Go!"
Silver found himself in front of the cat in no time. He gulped and walked up to her, she seem a bit skittish at first—noticing some random stranger walking up to her. Then, suddenly, Silver fell to his knees.
The cat shrieked and some people thought he was having a heart attack. Silver moaned mentally—what was he doing? Right, being the laughing stock.
"Listen, I know you don't want to, but I would really appreciate it if you would marry me!" Silver held out his arms. "All the times we spent are just running through my mind! I can't live without you," he shook his head dramatically. "And if I can't live with you, I may as well not live at all."
"Is that poetry?" Shadow whispered to Sonic who shrugged.
"Shakespeare?" Sonic looked back at his frenemy who also shrugged in response.
"Umm…" the cat watched him and the Mobians around her. Most had smiles on their faces, as if thinking the two were together. "I…I'm…"
Silver was sweating bullets. Please, please, please just say no so I can go back to my real girlfriend.
"I'm a lesbian."
Silver's eyes widened and he stood up, coughing and wiping himself off. The Mobians grimaced at the female while the white hedgehog chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Right, sorry…I did this on a dare."
Now the Mobians were giving him the dirty looks. The cat giggled, swiping a bang out of the way so he could see her bright green eyes. "I figured."
"I actually have a girlfriend," Silver chuckled. "Just not you…"
"Right, well…I'm Kassidy," she held out her hand.
He shook it and nodded. "Silver the Hedgehog."
She gaped slightly, tilting her head. "Silver the Hedgehog? As in, the Silver the Hedgehog?"
"Well, if someone's faking me, I might have to grab my friends and beat 'em up," Silver joked with a smirk.
Kassidy giggled. "No, I mean…my girlfriend and I are such big fans of you. You're so funny."
Silver blushed. "Um…thanks, I've never been told that by someone else outside my friends…hell, I'm not even sure my friends tell me that—just that I'm the laughing stock not twenty minutes ago."
"Oh!" Kassidy looked over his shoulder to see the group nervously waving at her. "Well, that's mean of them."
"Nah," Silver waved her off. "I know they care about me—we all care for one another."
Kassidy glanced back to hear a thump as Sonic hit the ground and Shadow landed on top of him. Silver sighed, not daring to look back as he heard the sound also. "Most of the time we get along. The others times it's just play," he smirked.
"You idiot!"
"OW!"
"Take it back!"
"SHADOW! YOU'RE HURTING ME!"
"Good!"
Silver sniffed. "Just play. Well, see ya later," he shook her hand again in farewell and caught up to his real girlfriend.
Kassidy smirk at the group as a black hedgehog with quills pointed up and brown eyes came up behind her. "Well?"
She shushed him with a hand up as the group continued to move up in the line. Her eyes turned cold and she watched each Mobian from the group.
Pink hedgehog, probably in early twenties like most of them. Cheery, dating the black hedgehog and annoying the white bat. White bat—dating red echidna. Silver, dating the purple cat and rabbit and fox together. Rest of the group is unknown. Hmm…
She hummed to herself before turning to the black hedgehog. "C'mon. I want some food."
The black hedgehog nodded, leading the way to the food court, not caring to look back at Kassidy to see if she was coming after him, but after a second, she did.
Kassidy turned to the group once again with a bigger grin on her face. "Such a fan…"
