Chapter 3

Sesshomaru lay with his eyes closed but not asleep. His mind was restless with thoughts and images of what he had done to Rin a few days back. The look on her face; the first time in her life she was terrified of me. I have no choice; I have to take Jaken's advice. She must go back to Kagome and Inu-Yasha; they can take better care of her. But, I don't want to lose her. Father, where are you when I need you the most? Sesshomaru battled before he was interrupted by Rin and Jaken's bickering. Sesshomaru stood up and started to walk toward the stream.

"Rin, come with me…please." Sesshomaru commanded. He didn't hear Rin say anything but she was following him.

They stopped in front of the stream and he turned around to face her. He could hear Rin's heartbeat speed up and he could smell the scent of her fear radiate off of her.

"Rin, I have important matters to deal with, that are too dangerous for you to come. I'm going to take you to stay with Kagome and Inu-Yasha, so they can take care of you in my absents. Anyways, they will probably need your help with the two pups."

"Yes, they will need my help. I will go help, like you ask of me." Rin responded.

"We will leave now so we can get there before dark." Sesshomaru spoke with pain in his voice.

"I will go get ready now and tell Jaken." Rin spoke in an emotionless tone.

When Rin left, Sesshomaru just stood there. He felt a sharp pain in his chest, he couldn't swallow, his stomach felt empty, and his eyes were stinging. She was so emotionless, she never said 'yes, my lord', and she never protested with me leaving her with someone. Sesshomaru dropped to his knees as he fought the tears from leaving his eyes. I don't want to lose her but I have no choice.

About an hour later Sesshomaru finally got up and walked back to camp. When he got there everything was already packed.

"We're ready to go my lord." Jaken spoke with pain. He knew Sesshomaru was in a great deal of pain, he didn't want to admit it, but he was too. He was losing the closest thing he had to a friend.

"Let's get going." Sesshomaru spoke as they started their journey further into Inu-Yasha's forest.

(Page break)

The sun was going down when they had finally arrived in front of Inu-Yasha and Kagome's house. It was built like a fortress with just wood. This is the perfect place for her.

"What are you all doing here?" Inu-Yasha interrupted Sesshomaru from his thoughts.

"Rin, Jaken; go say hello to Kagome and the pups. I and Inu-Yasha need to talk alone." Sesshomaru commanded, making sure Inu-Yasha heard 'alone'.

"Just go knock on the door, she'll open it." Inu-Yasha spoke confirming he understood.

Rin and Jaken went to the house. Sesshomaru watched to make sure they were inside.

"Follow me." Inu-Yasha spoke to give Sesshomaru reassurance that they will be alone.

Inu-Yasha leads Sesshomaru to an open area that was turned into a training spot.

"What's going on? You look worried." Inu-Yasha was the first to speak.

"It's Rin." Sesshomaru spoke with guilt and pain in his voice.

"Yeah, I noticed she wasn't her cheery self. What happened to her? Was she attacked?" Inu-Yasha pushed for an answer.

"She was in heat and I lost control." Sesshomaru spoke with the pain stronger in his tone.

"Don't tell me you raped her?" Inu-Yasha yelled as he got into a fighting stance.

"No, I was able to stop myself before… it happened. But, I still scared her. Today was the first time she had spoken to me since it happened a few days back. She was so emotionless, she never said 'Yes, my Lord' and she didn't protest me leaving her here." Inu-Yasha could see Sesshomaru was fighting the urge to fall to the ground.

"We'll keep her safe here until you are in more control." Inu-Yasha assured his older brother.

"I don't think I'll ever be in control around Rin. I've never had problems controlling myself around a female in heat. But, with Rin it took all my willpower to keep myself from marking her and…" Sesshomaru couldn't complete the sentence.

"I'm sure you'll find away." Inu-Yasha tried to give his brother hope but it failed.

"I'm leaving Jaken here too." Sesshomaru ordered.

"What! Don't you think you're taken this a little too far? Leaving Rin here is okay, but are you sure about Jake?" Inu-Yasha's voice wavered with the surprise and fear of the annoying creature staying for who knows how long.

"There is no reason in them both suffering for my mistake." Sesshomaru spoke.

"Now if you excuse me I must give Jaken the news and tell… tell Rin goodbye." Sesshomaru spoke as he started to walk back to the house.

As he arrived at the house Rin was sitting outside under a tree. He walked over to her and as soon as he stood over her she flinched. Rin stood up and stared into Sesshomaru's eyes.

"Rin, I have to leave now. Be safe and help Kagome out. Make sure to listen and obey Inu-Yasha. Be kind to Jaken. …Goodbye Rin." Sesshomaru had trouble with the last two words. He then turned around and started to walk away.

Something clicked inside Rin's mind when she heard Sesshomaru say goodbye. He never says goodbye. That must mean he's planning to never… come back for me.

Rin jumped up, ran to Sesshomaru, and grabbed him around the waist.

"Please, don't leave me Sesshomaru. I forgive you! I know you didn't mean to! Please don't go… I LOVE YOU!" Rin stopped suddenly. Did I just say I love you?

Sesshomaru couldn't believe Rin had told him she loved him, but love wasn't going to keep her safe from the demon in him. He looked up and saw Inu-Yasha with a surprise look, he had heard. Sesshomaru pushed Rin off of him.

"Inu-Yasha, take Rin inside now." Sesshomaru commanded. Inu-Yasha picked up Rin as she started to cry and Sesshomaru started to walk toward the forest.

"NO! DON'T LEAVE ME! SESSHOMARU! NOOO!" Rin screamed.

Jaken ran outside to see the commotion and saw Rin in Inu-Yasha's arms, crying, reaching out to Sesshomaru, who was walking toward the forest.

"My Lord, wait for me!" Jaken started to run after Sesshomaru.

"Jaken; stay." Sesshomaru commanded and Jaken stopped.

"Did he tell me to stay?" Jaken gulped. When he looked up, Sesshomaru was gone.
