Chapter Ten:

Some Alone Time

Fiona never knew Scourge could get this angry—especially with her.

But there the fuming male was, towering over her as she calmly and innocently sat at the edge of their hotel room bed. Fiona linked her fingers together in her lap as she stared down. He didn't say a thing since they left the beach with the others—but he had left the red hedgehog with a bruised lip after the latter blurted out that Fiona's shape showed enough.

Scourge knew that he was talking about her stomach—but he wanted at least a weak reason to punch him in the face. Fiona's stomach wasn't even showing yet and was still perfectly flat.

Fiona guessed the reason why Scourge was angry with her: The red hedgehog had prevented her from falling and had his hand over her firm stomach. Plus she had covered her mouth at the nauseous feeling that hit her afterwards…and she held her hand over his on her stomach.

The two had definitely looked like a happy couple expecting a baby.

That was what probably pissed Scourge off.

Fiona decided to ignore Scourge's icy glare. He was just being a possessive jerkwad.

"Fiona…" His voice held nothing but anger with the annoying female.

The fox sighed and lowered her eyelids while staring up at him. "What, Scourge?" She wasn't in the mood to deal with his long interrogation.

"Don't give me that tone."

She shot up from the bed. "You're overreacting, Scourge! It was nothing!"

"Quit yelling." Scourge placed his hand at his forehead and sighed.

Fiona grumbled something and plopped back down. Scourge growled. "What was that?"

"Nothing."

Scourge leaned forward, roughly grabbing her chin so she would be forced to look at him. "Listen here and listen well. You don't see me running after every hot babe I see—I didn't expect for you to go to hot guys. I thought you would at least have some respect in the fact that you are pregnant with my child and that I'm staying here."

Fiona gazed into his blue eyes—fierce and filled with…hurt? She frowned a little. Was that what that was? Was Scourge actually hurt that she would do that to him? Did knowing she was pregnant with his child make him only become attached to her even more?

Either way, his icy eyes were still beautiful to her. She bit her lip and just stared at them, kind of creeping Scourge out in the fact that she hadn't responded to him yet.

"Fiona?"

"I hope it has your eyes."

His eyes widened. That caught him off in surprise. He expected her to blow up in his face and have him apologize to her. It was how the other guys explained it to be, but Scourge figured that having a baby changed a few rules with women.

"What?" Scourge could barely get the damned word out.

Fiona furrowed her eyebrows. "I hope the baby has your eyes." She spoke it slowly to make sure he heard her well this time. She didn't want to repeat it and the more she did, the more embarrassing it seemed.

"Um…Why?"

Scourge let go of her and stood straight, staring down at her body. Fiona shrugged. "I don't know…But I can picture it having your eyes."

"You do know you can't really choose what the baby gets to look like, right?" Scourge inquired and she only nodded. "Good. It all depends on genetics and seeing as your eyes are dominant over mine, I bet the child will have brown eyes."

Fiona stubbornly shook her head. "It also depends on the running streak those genes have. I'm an only child and so were both of my parents, though I hardly knew them. My mother's parents had green eyes, both of them. She inherited her aunt's eyes and then I inherited them. But you on the other hand are also an only child but your family must have a running streak with blue eyes and a strong one at that."

Scourge snorted and folded his arms. "What makes you say that?"

"Most hedgehogs have brown eyes—I read the statistics in the magazine Manic works for—"

"He works for a magazine corporation?"

"—Yes. Don't interrupt. Now, it said that green was rare for hedgehogs but blue was in the medium range. Seeing as blue only ever beats green, it's safe to say that statistic is truthful. Blue eyes only occur if the family has an abundance of blue eyed relatives. It's just the same with Sonic's family and their fur color."

Scourge rolled his eyes and sat down at the side of her, feeling that this was going to be a long talk. "Okay, keep going," he said as soon as he settled down beside her.

"Sonic's family is known for their blue fur. Their blue fur in their family soon becomes a dominate trait, thus Sonic—if he ever marries Sarah and has kids—will most likely pass that trait onto his children and we can safely guess that most of his children will be closer to blue-furred than green. Now Sarah has a running streak of brown eyes in her family, so it'll be safe to say their children, if they ever do marry, will have brown eyes."

Scourge pretended to be listening, but he honestly didn't care anymore.

"But, there's also a chance that blue eyes could possibly beat brown eyes. It's known and possible. So the chance that Sonic and Sarah had a green-furred and green-eyed child is likely but not as much as the other possibilities. Therefore, our child has endless possibilities to choose from."

"Our baby doesn't get to choose what it looks like," Scourge chortled. But he rolled over and put his nose next to Fiona's stomach. "But if that's so," he whispered to the flat tummy, "please just pick brown eyes so I'll be right."

Fiona swatted his nose away. "Fine. I'll just forget about the appearance and go on to names."

"Names?" Scourge glanced up at his mate. "What do you mean? You don't mean to tell me names are chosen by genes, too?" he stifled a laugh.

Fiona glared. "No. I'm saying we should think of some."

"Why? You're not even that far along yet. You could still miscarry for all we know," Scourge sat up and pulled her into his lap.

They were silent when he finished the last sentence. Fiona stared at his chest and leaned her head against it. "You don't want that to happen, do you?"

Scourge leaned his head against her as he contemplated the question at hand. It was a serious question and she had a right to know that he had at one point hoped she wasn't pregnant.

But now…

He wasn't sure. He didn't want her to miscarry for he knew she would be devastated. She seemed attached to the situation the moment she learned of it. Scourge wasn't sure if he wanted or didn't want the child in question yet. It was mostly out of fear of not knowing how to be a good parent.

He was Scourge the Hedgehog. When you think of that you think of some evil bastard, not a decent father. He mentally snorted at the idea.

Wouldn't that be a twist ending? …But it already is…I've changed over the years because of the laws now enticed. It's not as easy to get away with thieving as it was years ago. There was nothing to do but to evolve with the others.

But a baby? That's asking too much at one time. It's biting off more than you can chew. I can't take care of a child. I can't. I don't know where to start and I don't know if it's something I could handle. The crying and the whining and the always-having-to-be-on-the-lookout thing are just too much. With my luck the child will choke on a dime within the first week of it being born.

"I don't…" he trailed off and fell back on the bed, dragging Fiona with him.

"You don't what?"

Scourge sighed and closed his eyes. "I don't know what I want anymore, Fiona…This isn't about me alone anymore…It's much bigger than me."

"You'll know soon won't you?" Fiona yawned, "Whether you want a baby or not?"

Scourge let her sleep in his arms then as he watched and scanned the room with tired eyes. He opened his mouth countless times but nothing came out. He swallowed heavily and finally spoke after ten minutes of nothing but gaping like a retarded and stunned fish.

Fiona was far from sleep though. She was waiting for her answer and if she had to wait until dawn, she would. Scourge wrapped their legs together and cradled her in his arms.

"I don't know," he repeated and closed his eyes once again. "But when I do…You'll be the first to know."

"You were what?"

"Meeting new people."

Sure, it sounded weird and almost as if their relationship was taking a break, but it wasn't that. It was as simple as the female voice said it. Brown eyes stared up at green.

Reminds you of something doesn't it? Yes, that talk with Scourge and Fiona—I knew it would.

Sonic let the water coming from the shower head hit him. He frowned and stared at his naked girlfriend. It wasn't anything new—they'd been taking showers together since they got to the hotel so the others could take showers, too.

"I can't believe you. You weren't just meeting new people. You were flirting with new people—especially that damn—"

Sarah smashed their lips together in an attempt to shut him up, but like her last fifty tries, he pushed away and glared. Her arms settled to the side of her hips while she tried to get any water to wash the shampoo out of her quills, but Sonic was blocking the water with his larger and taller body.

"Quit avoiding this conversation," he growled coldly.

Sarah rolled her eyes. "There's nothing to avoid. We only talked."

"You were holding his arm."

"I was laughing so hard that I needed something to help keep my balance."

"You were caressing it."

Sarah tippy-toed and scowled in her boyfriend's face. "Better his arm than his dick."

Sonic's eyes widened. She got him there and they both knew it, but he still wasn't going to take the friendliness she had given to the male who was dealing with a black eye.

He closed his eyes and sighed, leaning to the side so Sarah was suddenly hit with water. She sputtered it out of her mouth and glared at him, but his eyes were still closed. His ears perked towards her however at the sound of coughing.

"Sarah…" His eyes turned soft as he reopened them. "It's just the emotion you showed him. It set me off. You can't be lovey dovey with someone you truly love and then do the same to a complete stranger without raising suspicion."

"I wasn't being lovey dovey with him. I'm telling the truth—Okay, maybe his muscles were so perfect that I had to touch them just to be sure they were real, but that was it!" Sarah let out. "I swear it, Sonic."

The blue hero kissed her nose before getting out of the shower, leaving her be in the shower with the water still hitting her in the face. She sighed and slowly started to work on the shampoo in her quills.

~~~.~~~
He finally found her.
In a less compromising place and position than Sarah, Fiona, and Blaze had been in—almost. She had been innocently buying ice cream from the ice cream man—literally, she heard the music of the van and followed it from there.
Suddenly, this nice looking Mobian had come up and started talking to her. He got chocolate ice cream on his nose while trying to look hot in front of Miss Amy Rose and she started laughing. The beautiful laughter that Shadow knew all too well led him to the ice cream van and to a sight he didn't want to see.
Amy had gotten the ice cream of the stranger's nose with her finger in one swipe. She was about to put it on the napkin next to her when suddenly the stranger wasn't there anymore. Nope. Shadow the Frickin' Pissed Hedgehog was standing before her and the stranger was shoved up against the van.
Boy, did the ice cream man hide when he saw who it was.
The rest was history. Shadow and Amy left the stranger on the sidewalk while the ice cream man sort of just vanished.
Now, Amy was placed entirely on the bed and Shadow was pacing the room, growling and muttering things to himself like the mad man Amy depicted him to be.
"I still say we should've helped him."
"He didn't deserve it," Shadow growled in response without missing a beat. "He dared to try and flirt with someone who wasn't his to flirt with. Thus, I announce punishment to be fair," he stared out the window with an expression akin to an evil genius at the end of the scene of a movie.
Amy gasped and put her hands on her hips, sitting up on her knees. "I'm not a piece of property, Shadow! You can't be this possessive all of the time, it's ridiculous!"
"I'm not being possessive," Shadow snorted and started pacing again. "I'm being protective."
"Trust me, you're being possessive," Amy grumbled."
Shadow stopped at her and suddenly hopped on the bed like a rabbit, landing on his knees and holding her at her waist so he was in the same position as she was, just across from her. Amy instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck and put their foreheads together.
The Ultimate Possessive Life Form sealed the gap with a kiss. Amy responded with a simple kiss back and pushed away, immediately moving to stop Shadow from trying to kiss her again. But it didn't seem to faze nor stop him. The ebony hedgehog dove right back in and kissed her neck multiple times. Amy didn't do much but let him.
It was only when the bathroom door opened did Amy push him off. However, she pushed him a little hard.
THUD!
"Oops…" Amy stared at her boyfriend on the floor. "Are you seeing stars, Shadow?"
"Owwww…"
Amy was for once not the one causing the death hug.
It was more of like a death grip. She didn't feel any love whatsoever.
Shadow's arms were wrapped around her rather strongly. Amy had tried to get out of his grip countless times but had failed miserably. If she even inched a little out of his latch, a deep growl would run through the silent hotel room.
Or, silent enough.
Sarah stared back at her while another one of Shadow's growls erupted from the animal's throat. He was an animal at this time, Amy decided—not a regular being that could think sanely. "You know…" Sarah started while it looked like she was going through this same thing.
Sonic's legs were entangled with hers but Amy couldn't see his face, only the top of his quills. She figured he was burying into Sarah's neck and was hidden by her quills, which would be true. Sarah cleared her throat and made a slight movement, causing another slight movement down by her stomach.
Sonic's arms tightened around Sarah's form. The hedgehog wheezed a little. "You know," she repeated but more out of breath this time, "I liked him better when he was turned around and snoring on his side of the bed."
"They're only protective of us," Amy whispered back at her, completely aware of Sonia and Sunny on the couches.
"Oh, is that what this is called? I would've never known."
Amy sighed. "They're just being…"
Sarah deadpanned, giving her the look of obvious doubt. "I had no clue this was what love felt like." Sonic tightened onto her again and she winced, her hands rubbing his arms. "I'm so overwhelmed I could cry."
Amy smiled lightly at the joking female. Sarah was literally on the verge of crying, but it wasn't because she felt love from her boyfriend. It was because she was slowly losing oxygen while trying to breathe.
She watched as Sarah twisted in Sonic's grasp to face the blue Mobian. There was grumbling from Sarah as she muttered something to his sleeping body. Amy blinked tiredly and realized she was in a loose hold.
Loose enough to get out of.
Amy turned to look at Shadow and he was deeply asleep by the looks of it.
With that, Amy took a breath in quickly and then rolled out of his grasp. She turned her head to the side and looked at him cautiously. Shadow had his eyes closed peacefully, his mouth slightly agape, and now his arm at his side loosely.
Amy exhaled in relief and stood out of bed. She turned only to bump into Sarah. The lime green hedgehog had made it out alive and was gasping for breath as quietly as she could.
"What now?" Amy whispered.
Sarah shrugged. "I was just trying to get out alive from that escapade."
"Hmmm," Amy thought quickly before her eyes landed on the key card to the door. She grinned a little at Sarah. "You don't wanna go for a night walk on the beach, do you?"
"Are you asking me to be your new lover?"
"Will you try and suffocate me in my sleep?"
Sarah blinked at her. "Drastic times call for drastic measures, Amy."
Amy giggled as she grabbed a pair of jeans and a shirt. Sarah did the same and they made their way to the bathroom. Better to change quickly and together and then just leave without Shadow and Sonic noticing.
"Just call me Rose."
"Okay," Sarah whispered. "But don't you dare call me 'Shadow.'"
