Chapter Eighteen:

I Hate Police Stations

It wasn't long before the police arrived at the hotel.

They arrested both Kassidy and Christopher right away. The looks on their faces when they entered the gym was priceless, Vector decided. They hauled away Lenny and Marty to the hospital and then to jail. Charmy and Alicia were sent to the hospital—only Espio and Vector went though. The detective decided to question them later.

A police officer and a detective stood before the group, knowing all too well who the heroes of Mobius were. The officer, Chief Olive, was a blue and yellow gecko. Detective Charlotte Jones was a very fluffy cat with a long, curled tail and a cream-white coat with soft orange eyes.

"We'll have to take you in for questioning," Detective Jones said. "We've been chasing these guys for quite some time. I never thought it would lead up to the incident in West Mobius."

"Neither did we," Knuckles folded his arms as he spoke. "Honestly, we were just here for a vacation until our friends started to go missing."

Detective Jones held up her hand. "I would like to question you all privately, if you will. I'm just astounded that the same danger can find you, no matter how many miles apart they are." She blinked curiously and stared at each individual of the group.

"Ugh," Silver's shoulders slumped down, "The police station?"

"Yes, sir."

He looked to Blaze and smacked his lips. "You know, I'm starting to really hate police stations."

"C'mon," Sonic grinned. "This will only be the fifth time this year."

Detective Jones raised her eyebrows but said nothing as she led them out of the hotel and into the police cruisers. They filed out and got into the cars. Tails and Sonic were in the same police car as Detective Jones. The two sat in the back while she sat in the front—Chief Olive drove as he lead the many police cruisers to the police station.

"Detective?" Tails leaned forward, minding the fence-like structure that kept the back seat apart from the front seat.

"Yes?"

"There are others involved with Kassidy and Christopher. They're somewhere in the building."

"We've got two of them. The others have seemed to disappear into hiding so far." Detective Jones reached for her notepad. "An officer caught both Vince Scarbor and Laurie Dale together in an intimate situation in bed."

Sonic snorted and tried to cover his mouth, "Oh, boy. Please let me tell Kassidy." He looked at Tails with a vengeful smile. "Please."

The police station could've used the help of some interior designers, but something told Sonic they weren't trying to impress anyone.

Detective Jones started with Tails. The rest sat outside with two police guards standing on either end of their group. There were enough chairs placed out for them to wait in. Next was Cream. Tails' interrogation lasted twenty minutes, but Cream's was only ten.

Sonic rubbed his hands together and glanced to his right. He looked at Sarah's silent figure. He sat straight and leaned towards his girlfriend, pecking a kiss to her forehead. She slightly leaned into him quietly before closing her eyes and falling asleep.

Amy was in a similar position with Shadow. Shadow had his arm around the young flower while she finally slept for the first time in what felt like years. Silver and Blaze sat beside each other while the white hedgehog played with their entwined fingers.

Detective Jones had prohibited anyone to speak to one another, hence the guards. She wanted everyone's own story. So, while the couples sat beside each other, it was rather awkward for Manic and Sunny. Sunny tried to speak to him in the police car but he showed that he still wasn't ready to speak. He hadn't even helped her out when she was in pain from Christopher.

That part saddened her the most.

Detective Jones came back into the room, "Sonic the Hedgehog."

It was almost midnight when they allowed the group to go back to the hotel and have a night's rest. It had been a long day for the rescuers and the kidnapped needed food and water still. While everyone waited for an elevator, Sunny stood beside Manic and nudged him a little.

He grunted and stepped away.

Sunny glared at him. "You know what?! You're acting like a child, Manic! I don't know what's gotten into you—"

The green hedgehog turned on her and glared menacingly, "How about the fact that you were making out with some guy?!"

"We're not dating!" Sunny growled. "Why on Mobius would you care?! I was playing my part because Flame can't persuade two people at once and we had to improvise!"

"You call willingly giving up your virginity a good improvise?!" Manic hollered. It was practically only them in the hallway now. It was late, no one was in the hotel but the lady at the desk, and she had just walked off once they started arguing.

"I wasn't going to take it that far!" Sunny was beat red. "And who says I'm a virgin?!"

Her back was slammed up against the wall suddenly and lips crashed onto hers. She protested with an odd sound but it only made Manic pause for a brief second before he was kissing her again. It took Sunny a second before her arms looped around his neck and he was holding her firmly by the waist.

When they pulled away, the two were panting. Manic leaned their foreheads together and breathed in. "Trust me, Sunny. I care more than you could ever imagine."

The female only hugged him desperately. The two stood there for a long time—long enough for the elevator to come back down and open to see Sonic leaning against the door, stopping it from closing on him.

"Hey, lovebirds, it's time for bed. C'mon Sunny. Manic, go to your own room."

Manic glared at his brother and surprisingly, so did Sunny. Sonic sighed and folded his arms. "Like I'm gonna trust you two together right now, alone in a hotel room. Dream on, kiddies."

Reluctantly, the two followed Sonic into the elevator and went to their respective rooms: Manic on his own and Sunny with Sonic. Sonic opened the door with his card and allowed Sunny in first. She walked to the couch where Sonia was brushing her wet quills and smiled.

Sonia responded with the same movement. "Amy's done taking a shower. It's your turn."

Sonic watched the two before aimlessly wandering. He found himself at the foot of his shared bed. Sarah was already cuddled up in the blankets and sleeping. He shut off the lamp light beside her and crawled into bed, looking over at Shadow and Amy.

He smiled as Amy got comfortable and Shadow was watching her movements carefully. Amy caught Shadow's gaze and sighed. "Go to bed, Shadow. I'm fine."

The ebony hedgehog waited until she lied down completely on her back before he put his head on her stomach and nuzzled into her body, curling up beside her. Amy put her hands in his quills, softly stroking them. It wasn't long before Shadow's purrs were heard in the room.

Sonic leaned back and turned around, allowing Sarah to have her own room on the bed tonight. He figured by two o' clock he would regret it though, seeing as Sarah moved a lot in her sleep if Sonic wasn't holding her there.

It was barely one-thirty by the time everyone fell asleep, but once they hit that pillow, most of them clonked out. After all, being a hero was tough.
