Raven stared at Thanatos and the throne. Two words marked her path, on would forever curse her the other would doom her to life of solitude. What kind of choices were those? Yes or no… Seemed like such a simple decision… Not that it was anymore.
Raven sighed and gave her final decision.
"Okay, I'll perform the ritual."
A harsh laughter boomed throughout the room and out of the corner of Raven's sight she noticed Thanatos's maniacal grin.
"A good decision my daughter… Come forth, we must start right away if the resolve is to be strong. Wouldn't want you to chicken out during an important moment." Red eyes hovered eerily over the throne and dark magic was more prominent in the room than ever.
Raven felt her entire body itch… It was annoying. She felt her body simply disappear in some spots to be filled with air and when she looked at her body she realized that some of her body parts were fading in and out. She looked up at the grinning demon Thanatos in shock.
A dark, heavy feeling built up inside her and when she thought she would burst from the feelings it slowly left her, becoming a dark mist as it exited her body. At first it steamed off her skin in full force, appearing wherever her flesh was open to the air. Then it gathered itself together in front of the demoness. A thin hissing sound rang in her ear; it was full of incoherent words that if one listened to long enough could drive them crazy.
Then in front of Raven, was herself.
However, this looked nothing like Raven. This Raven had pure white hair that was like bleached bone, it hung down to her waist messily. It had four eyes blazing with red hellfire and sharp fang-like teeth that were bared in a snarl. Two small horn stubs protruded from its head. The mist-Raven's skin was red and leathery. A black robe hung loosely on the mist-form. It all looked nearly solid, yet the constant small movement of the particles revealed the transparent being.
There was no lower body to the apparition. Around the waist area instead of legs a trail of dark mist led into her navel, linking the two. Raven looked down at it then back up at the ugly, twisted version of her. She felt cold, devoid of any heat at all whatsoever. Numbness also spread up and down her body from her navel. She wasn't even sure if she could stand, there was no feeling in her legs.
"Hello... Me." The mist-Raven smiled evilly. The gray skinned girl was too stunned to reply, though her eyes narrowed.
Then the mist-Raven plunged into Raven. Rather, Raven's chakra stone.
Pain filled her and she let out a bloodcurdling scream. The pain stroke each and every one of her cells, she felt as if every fiber of her core was being attacked. It was like electricity, every movement zapped her and every zap made her move to try to get away. The demoness fell to the ground screaming as the pain and agony lurched through her body. Mad, insane laughter pounded in her ears and the world seemed to spin in her sight. Raven closed her eyes to escape... And fell unconscious.
Beast Boy, I'm so sorry!
When Raven woke up she felt only the cold. Her eyes remained unopened. She shifted around. The demoness felt was sitting on something smooth and warm. She opened her eyes and saw herself reflected on the marble floor.
Her skin had turned a darker gray and gleamed, like polished ebony. She had retained her purple hair and eyes, though her eyes had a slight red glow to them. Horns stuck up from her skull near the back around her head and lined the area around her head, resembling a horned crown. Raven lifted a dark gray hand and touched the horns lightly. It felt smooth and cold, just like her insides. She shivered slightly as she noticed the chill and emptiness inside her. She folded her arms to try and preserve warmth, then noticed incredulously how warm the room felt and the flames that were rising out of the ground along the walls of the room. The smooth stone she sat on was warm too. I feel like I am cold blooded being here in a room full of heat, and why do I look like this?
A chuckling sound made her gaze turn to a servant in front of her, it was Thanatos. "I must say my princess, you do look absolutely stunning, especially on top of your new throne."
The laugh, while it had a creepy edge to it, strangely enough didn't bother Raven. Neither did the fact that he had addressed her as his princess. Instead, the thought of her being addressed as a princess kind of satisfied her. She noticed that what she was sitting on was indeed a throne, the very one she had seen when she first entered the room. It apparently had been fixed from the sorry state she had seen it at a first glance, or maybe it had always been that way? It didn't matter.
"So I count as your princess?"
"Indeed milady. You have claimed the throne of hell and taken both Trigon's full inheritance. It does indeed make you a princess of hell, I have been instructed to carry out orders under you unless lord Trigon requests otherwise," Thanatos said monotonously. "Do you still feel any traces of being indebted to your 'titan' friends?" The servant asked.
At the thought of Trigon, Raven noted the lack of her father's distinctive presence. "My father, where is he? I do not sense him anymore." The demoness didn't care about the question, so she ignored it.
"Your father's essence has been relocated to my conscious, I am now his vessel so to speak. As long as I remain loyal to him I will retain my own control." Thanatos continued. His voice had a certain hesitance to it that Raven noticed right away. Trigon is inside Thanatos now? I'm not certain whether to be relieved or worried. She observed his stillness, he didn't seem conflicted at all like she had been with different sides inside her mind. However when it was her case she hid it quite well, her friends could attest to that.
Friends, did she still have those? Certainly they didn't want her now, she could almost be considered full demon. Great Azar, she couldn't even be considered to have a heart or soul anymore, she didn't feel anything inside her other than a cold emptiness... Was she dead?
"Not dead my dear daughter, you are just more demon than human now, you don't have such weak flesh and blood anymore. Your feeling's aren't as prominent anymore, all of them except for a select few like pride, rage, jealousy and other negative ones are less prone to... Get in the way." rumbled her father somewhere inside her head. She stared at Thanatos in bewilderment. So she still had a mental link with him? What the hell!
"Is master speaking to you? He still retains all of his mental abilities that he had when he inhabited this room, just that his mental reach is limited only to the area surrounding me." Raven stared at Thanatos, one of her eyes twitching with annoyance.
However, Raven admitted that without the cloud of emotion her mind felt refreshingly clear. Even as she locked away her emotions to begin with there was always that one small space where her feelings affected her, the human side was the cause. Then her thoughts froze, silence, there was silence. Happy!...Timid! Rage! There was no answer from any of them.
And that made her smile.
Nothing to challenge her voice, her thoughts, she had power and no restrictions on it, well just one... She dropped the smile and gave an expressionless stare at her new servant. Trigon would still continue to rule her life, he was still going to end up stopping her from doing what she wished. With Thanatos serving him she was still technically bound in chains and forced to do what they asked of her, there was no 'freedom' for her yet. But she would just have to snap those chains now didn't she?
Raven's smiled turned into a grin. No one could challenge her with the power she had gained, and once she removed Trigon permanently she could control all of his power. She could become the queen of hell and all she had to do was slay a demon who couldn't even control his own body.
"-That's our first priority milady." Raven snapped back to what was going on. Thanatos had just finished speaking.
"Umm... What?" The demoness asked. What's a first pritority, what are those two planning? Why in hell should it involve me now.
"Trigon says that our first priority is rebuilding a suitible body or vessel for him. He needs a new form so that he can also take a real place of rule, after that you will rule under him and hell can invade earth. Hah, screw that. If anything my 'daddy' will find a body, steal back his power and send me out. Besides, ruling under someone doesn't sound appealing. But it would be best if I played quiet now.
"Of course," said Raven silkily. Thanatos's eyes narrowed slightly, though he wasn't sure why. "I look forward to rulling with daddy."
Inside Raven's mind, anticipation and cunning was brewing. She was so close to casting off her chains and being able to finally live freely. No parents telling her what she had to fulfill with her life, no rules holding back her power, her strength, no goodie two-shoes telling her to use it a certain way.
But what about the titans? A small rebellious voice dared say. Raven thought about it for a moment, the voice more specifically. Then replied; What about them? They better not get in her way, she wouldn't hold back though if they did. Still, the point remained that some part of her still tried to pull her away from her goals. She had to squish it, she couldn't let anything tear her away from the freedom that she now possessed.
