Hey everyone, sorry that this chapter is both super late and not nearly long like I said it would be. I've had my other stories to work on (which also received late updates or none at all) as well as stupid real life stuff to work on... The HSSE (High School Proficiency Exam) to get ready for. It's not as hard as I thought though... I bet I made a pretty good persuasive essay hehe.
This chapter was going to be longer but I felt the need to give you guys something to read sooner rather than probably a couple weeks from now, and it seemed like a good place to leave off. I can safely assure you that you are going to be seeing Beast Boy and his efforts soon!
Thanks for continuing to read and please enjoy!
Thanatos grimaced, his mind felt crowded inside of his head. However it was for the master so he dealt with it.
"Sharing this body is sickening… It doesn't matter though, with Raven doing what I ask soon enough I will have both my own form and my throne back. It's amusing seeing this half-blood inhabit my throne, and she calls herself a princess of hell. Careful of her Thanatos, we don't want any problems like when I had to deal with her before."
But master it shouldn't be an issue. The last time she had the titans with her, without friends it shouldn't be a problem right?
"You are merely essence left by me, do not argue." Trigon warned in his mind. Thanatos instantly silenced and apologized to the demon lord. Thanatos looked down at the flames that lapped at his feet. A walk through the fiery paths of hell used to calm him down, but now his mind was too stressed to do it. Why doesn't it feel complete… We are the same… Just as we used to be…
But he was just being constantly reminded that he was just another tool, another means for the master to succeed. The princess was just being used as well. Everyone was a pawn in the plot of lord Trigon, that's how thing should have been. However, Thanatos couldn't shake off the nagging feeling, an indescribable emotion that shoved poisonous, traitorous thoughts into his mind.
His mind started clouding anymore and his wings spread out. He flapped them a couple times before taking flight back to the palace. He needed something to distract himself, like work, besides there was more to be done before lord Trigon could regain a body.
He arrived at the palace and felt the princess's dark aura from out here. Oh how gloriously the young demoness had started falling. This was something that Thanatos could feel some measure of pleasure for. He had helped set her on that path and it was him that had gotten her to this point. The thought made him feel as if he was doing something right.
The doors opened and a couple stones were flew past Thantos's head. His eyes widened and the demon stared forward in shock.
"Fool, stop standing there and see what's going on!" Trigon growled mentally. Thanatos scrambled inside in response. Dark purple eyes were gazing in his direction as he slammed the door behind him.
"What is it Thanatos?" The demoness asked icily. Thanatos felt a feeling that was uncannily similar to when he would serve Thanatos in this room. Just another sign of how the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
"I've only taken a small flight milady, it is time to go and receive the materials. Lord Trigon commands it." Thanatos responded. He could have sworn he saw a flicker of irritation in Raven's gaze, but it was so fast he couldn't be sure.
"Are you sure? I've yet to prefect my new powers," said Raven, frowning. She took small steps towards him, stopping a couple feet in front of him. There was a silence where Trigon's presence inside his head weakened, he presumed that his lord was speaking with Raven. It left Thanatos wondering what her new power was.
"Okay, I will come father." Raven stated before sinking into the ground. Thanatos simply did the same.
They appeared somewhere lush and green, Thanatos sure didn't know where. The geography of the human world was something he didn't need to know. People moved around quickly and avoided looking at the two demons. Thanatos shivered at a weird itching feeling that had spread over his body, he felt slightly insecure as well, as if his body had been stripped of its defenses.
"Where are we milady?"
"We are in Zandia, home to the Church of Blood, they are the cult that worships Trigon. They will help us with resurrecting him, as his daughter they will listen to me."
Thanatos nodded and followed the demoness. They stalked through the town, Thanatos noticed that the houses were old seeming, and instead of cars or any other electronic devices there was horse-drawn carriages and other more… Underdeveloped technologies.
"The flow of time is off; this doesn't appear to be present time Earth." Thanatos heard Trigon mumble. He mentioned this to Raven who simply waved it off.
"It doesn't matter, we will remain better undetected in this time period and some of the most powerful materials were destroyed during this era, the easiest way to get them now is to travel back in time and retrieve them."
Thanatos could sense Trigon's slight annoyance, but the demon lord remained silent. It was awhile before they came before a dark looming church building. The walls were black and shone in the weak sunlight. There were gargoyles posted along the roof that gazed down at the two darkly. The doors had several markings in crimson scattered across them. To any normal mortal it would appear as nothing more than gibberish that some lunatic had written, however it was clearly written in demonic.
"Let all who preach to the one dark lord, the one who rules over fire, over shadows, and over the most powerful daemon in existence, gather here before Scath. The ruler of the underworld"
The magic being emitted from the words alone vibrated through Thanatos's body and rang in his mind. With the enchantments on here only those with an attachment to demons could see this, is it meant to attract worshippers?
"It's nothing more than a line to attract demons, or more particularly me I assume, the foolish mortals don't realize that they bring their own doom as they try to summon me. But what does it matter, as long as I rule in the end." Said Trigon.
Of course milord.
Raven pushed open the doors and stalked inside. Thanatos followed. The dull room was lit by candlelight and the dark crimson light that filtered in through the windows, made of stained red glass. A tall old man walked towards us. He was bald except for a lines of white hair on the left and right sides of his head. He also had a large white beard.
"Who is-Oh!" the man gasped as his eyes fell on the glowing red eyes of the two people in front of him. Their red skin was subtly shown as well, marking them as ones to be worshipped. He appeared to tremble underneath his ghastly white and crimson cloak.
"If you truly wish to serve lord Scath, you will want to assist us," Raven said in a dark monotone. The man nodded. Behind him rows of Scathian priests rose to their feet and stared.
"Of course, servant of the great one!" the man bowed. "What is it our lord Scath demands of us? I am the high priest, Brother Blood. But the others here call me brother Sebastian."
"I never said I cared for a name; Sebastian, just Scath's followers assistance." The man nodded, "I understand that you have many sacrificial offerings? Particularly the ones banned outside of the country?" Another smooth nod.
"Indeed great demoness. I got all manner of items that have been well hidden from those who want to take them away. If I must say so myself, me and my church are growing well above the influence of witch slaughterings and heresy cries!" By the end his voice was higher pitched and more ecstatic. The men behind him muttered amongst themselves in agreement.
"Whatever, please, show us these materials you claim to keep." The man nodded and began walking. Raven and Thanatos followed. The men started moving to follow their high priest, but a short signal from him kept them down.
He led them down a dark stairway to the right side of the room. Whispers of reverence filled the room behind them. They are disgusting. Worshipping us so feebly, it's not as if we will give then anything. Raven considers these beings no greater than peasants... And I can agree.
"They are useful peasants though. They believe that we will grant them their powerful desires and power itself. Even our protection from those that would interfere is sought. Such is the way that followers of my symbol are seen even currently."
"Here we are oh great one!" he said with glee as they came to a boarded off door. He began to slowly take board after board off of the door. The boards must have been there for show, because there was no way such an old man could take off nailed down planks of wood so easily. He finished and walked into the room, Raven and Thanatos followed him quietly.
The room was filled with all sorts of things. Dark ominous shelves held potions and jars of various things, including a very suspicious jar of eyeballs. A pile of animal furs sat in a corner, dusty and unused. Sitting on the furs precariously were even more jars, except this ones held exclusively feathers. In the back of the room there was a display case. Thanatos walked up to it and observed it. It contained all sorts of ceremonial daggers and blades... Some of them most likely dating from the very beginning of the bronze age.
"You have a very wide selection of ritual supplies," said Thanatos.
"Ah yes, the best and rarest that can be found... And it is all genuine!" the man replied giddily. Raven took a few looks around and frowned.
"However, this is petty stuff. None of it is good for our need," Raven hissed. The man shuddered. "Is this all you have? These are mere summoning ingredients for a minor demon or evil spirit, not someone as powerful as lord Trigon!" Sebastian took a step back in fear.
"I'm sorry great demoness, surely you can understand though that coming by stronger ingredients in this world is difficult. It is even harder to keep those items from the christian lands of Europe," the high priest shuddered. Raven considered him for a few more moments, before turning and lifting most of the ingredients with her magic.
"Whatever, we can always fetch what we actually need later. Thanatos, grab what you think will work... I'm sure that Trigon can tell you what. Sebastian or whatever you are considered, consider yourself failed." Raven's icy words froze the man in his tracks, unable to speak a word in shock. Thanatos rounded up the supplies as Trigon instructed; They ported out and left very little still there.
