A/N: See below for reasons/explanation behind addition.
BTW: Any additions that require a chapter all on their own will be added as the third to last chapter. "Unspoken Rules" and "Ezra's Rule" will always be last.
Rule# 12 "When working together avoid splitting up unless part of a plan, and absolutely never in unfamiliar territory."
"Should we split up?" He asked, eyeing the unusual number of troopers in the square.
"No, absolutely not," she answered immediately. "You're not familiar enough with the area, and I don't want you getting lost or cornered somewhere you won't be able to escape."
"Hey! I'm not that ba–"
"And it's a stupid thing to do too," She said, speaking over him. "Working together is safer; having someone there to watch your back is safer. The only time you ever separate from me is if it's part of a plan, 'k? Just consider it a new rule: when working together avoid splitting up unless part of a plan, and absolutely never in unfamiliar territory. Got it?"
"Got it," he sighed. She always babied him, but he kinda liked it. It was nice knowing someone worried; it felt even better that someone cared. He smiled and his eyes landed on the perfect target. "I gotta plan."
"'Bout time you put that brain to use," she teased, flicking his forehead. He shoved her hand away.
Did he really just think she babied him? Perhaps she just kept him around so she could have someone to pick on.
He rubbed his forehead and gave her halfhearted scowl that was ruined by a small smile.
Oddly enough, he wouldn't want it any other way.
A man walked down the street, a battered and beat up old droid rolling along beside him. He was on edge, not so much because this was their second heist this week and the number of stormtroopers was still double the usual amount, but rather because someone was following him. Had been for quite some time too.
He stopped and leaned against a wall, crossing his arms and adopting a bored expression. The old, orange painted droid ground to a halt a few feet in front of him, it's top turning back to face him, and let loose a series of growls he didn't even need to translate to know where unkind. He rolled his eyes and waved the droid over to him, mentally cursing his partner for making him take the foul mouthed bot. It was her droid, so why did he have to put up with it? He sighed and tightened his ponytail, using the motion to look around for the source of the eyes.
His eyes landed on a little boy sitting atop an unused stall, feet swinging in a carefree sort of way as he munched on some food. Seeing the man looking his way, the boy waved.
"Something wrong with your 'bot, mister?" The boy asked, cocking his head to the side as the droid circled the man, still grumbling and occasionally poking at him.
"Nothing a couple of smacks won't fix," the man replied, giving the old C-1 a threatening look. The droid gabbed him extra hard and rolled away, making a noise much like someone blowing a raspberry. The kid's laughter followed him as he marched after the droid.
The man rounded the corner sharply and narrowly avoided knocking over kid.
'What was it with kids today? They're everywhere, practically popping out of the walls,' he thought distractedly, as something topped in painfully bright yellow, swerved around him.
"Oops, sorry, mister!" The kid, a girl by the voice, called and dashed past him, a too big, faded blue jacket flying behind her and clashing horribly with the brilliant yellow hat she was wearing.
He watched her go, idly wondering where she'd gotten the hat and if he shouldn't do her a favor and take it from her. That shade of bright, almost florescent yellow should be illegal. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts and regain his vision he turned his attention back to the old C-1 and scowled. Hera wouldn't be too mad if it had an 'accident,' would she?
Behind him, out of sight and forgotten, the girl raced over to the stall and stopped, hands on hips.
"What happened to playing look out?" she asked snippily. "You were supposed to stay up top, on the roofs!"
"I am on a roof!" The boy protested, patting the stall roof he was sitting on. "And how does this not count as being separated?"
"That's not what I meant and you know it!" She clambered up beside him. "And we're not separated because we could see each other. Or at least we could've if someone hadn't decided to wonder off! Care to tell me why?"
He shrugged. "Got bored and he looked interesting."
"That guy with the ponytail?" She asked, confused. "Looked kinda shady to me."
He shrugged again and she rolled her eyes.
"Whatever. Anyway I scoped out the target and we're good to go. You ready?" At his nod she slipped off the roof and down the street.
He followed still thinking about the man. He didn't understand it but something about the man had drawn his attention and the longer he watched the man the more he'd felt. . .something. It was almost as if the man had called to him, and he had felt something stirring inside him. The feeling, whatever it was, had scared and excited him, like he was on the edge of the tallest building and about to jump but somehow knew he'd make it. He'd found himself following the man, waiting for something to happen, and when the man had stopped and looked at him. . .Well, there was something about the man's green eyes that made him think there was more.
Though more than what or what that more actually was, he didn't know.
Shaking his head, he pushed aside all thoughts of the strange, ponytail wearing man and focused on the plan. A plan he'd come up with all on his own. Now, he just had to make sure it worked!
Author's Note: The addition to this chapter came about from idea I got from Ginger Inc, who asked me to do a bit about them meeting the Ghost crew. As I informed Ginger Inc, this story is meant to take place when Ezra is between 7-10 years old(ish), way before he meets the crew. I didn't want him really meeting the crew per say, and when I did the math the only people who were a part of the crew at the time were Hera, Kanan, and Chopper for certain (Based on what I could gather from the official site and references from others). I don't when Zeb joined, and honestly I pretty sure it was about 2-3 years after Kanan joined Hera, given he doesn't seem as close to them as they are to each other. As for Sabine, I doubt she'd been with the crew more than a year or so before they picked up Ezra, which would have been way after this would have taken place.
This might not be what was asked for, but any more interaction would have left an impression on both parties which meant they might have recognized each other later. Well, Ezra might have, given that I don't think Kanan changed his appearance much. Kanan probably wouldn't have recognized Ezra since he's just a kid here and he's a teen when they meet again, big physical change there. . .Anyway, hope you liked it.
If anyone else has any suggestions, lay them on me! Try to give me some specifics though, or it might not turn out how you want it.
