Rule# 15 "Don't ever scare me like that again!"

He teetered at the edge of the roof, arms pin wheeling as he tried to steady himself. Regaining his balance he glanced back. Behind him a girl was sprinting toward him and several feet behind her a trooper was raising a blaster.

"Hurry! Jump!" She yelled at him, dashing past and taking her own advice by leaping down into the alley below.

"Com–"

"Stop right there, street rat!" the trooper commanded.

"Ah, maybe next time, but I got places to be and stuff to do." He gave a mock salute and made to turn around. The humming of a blaster froze him in his tracks and he glanced back in time to see the man pull the trigger.

She heard the shot. She saw him fall. She screamed, feet moving instinctively as she raced to break his fall. Apparently he wasn't dead since he managed to slow his fall enough not break anything, but she didn't have time to be relieved as the trooper appeared above them.

"Let that be a lesson to you street rats!" he snarled down at them. "No one gets away with stealing from the Empire."

With that he walked off, apparently thinking ridding the world of one street rat was enough work for the day.

Casting him the darkest look she could, she gently laid the boy on the ground. Hands shaking as he groaned softly.

"Is he gone?" he asked softly.

She nodded.

"Oh, good." He sat up, stretching his arms and wincing.

"Y-you–" words failed her as she realized he was just fine. "You were faking it?!"

"Shh!" he clapped a hand over her mouth. "We don't want him to come back!"

Her fist landed on his head and she grabbed him by the collar. He stared at her livid face, suddenly wishing the trooper would come back.

"You – if you ever – I will–" She took a deep breath and slowly released him. He sat, eyeing her warily, as she stood up unsteadily.

"New rule," she hissed. "Don't you ever scare me like that again, got it?"

"Got it," he said hoarsely.

"Good." She pulled him to his feet. "Because if you do, I'll kill you!"

Nodding, he shakily followed after her and silently thinking a second new rule should be to never make her that angry again.
